Tattoo artist Alyssa Shirkey had an opening due to scheduling issues on a weekday afternoon so I took advantage of the opportunity. Since a flash piece I requested was already taken, she asked if there was anything similar I'd like. She said she'd have two small pieces for me to choose from once I arrived. She was quick & friendly. Her "bedside manner" was great, and even though mine was a small/quick tattoo she talked with me during the tattooing process which helps distract from the pain (albeit only a 2-4 on a scale of 10. We also had a quick consultation about a larger piece I was considering and she provided some quick insight & direction on how we could go about developing it & for scheduling. I really love this place. I just moved to the Detroit area from Chicago, so I was scared to go to a tattoo shop I had never been too ( I actually read about Ironclad on yelp).The workers are very friendly. I went in on Saturday and they were able to get me in on Sunday. I got a dove on my arm and Melise did it, who I highly recommend. I had been referred to Ironclad from another local tattoo/piercing shop to have a piercing done below the belt and I cannot say enough about the staff, especially the piercer Chase. I got my conch piercing here and I absolutely love it! It was done so quickly the piercing part only took like 5 minutes. Chase (the piercer) told me to come back in 2 weeks when the swelling has gone down so that he can shorten the piercing so it doesn't catch on things anymore. I have tried calling multiple times while they are still open to book an appointment for get it shortened but every time no one answers and I'm put to voicemail. I got my septum pierced here about a month ago and it was by far the best experience! I got my right nostril pierced 3 years ago and the service wasn't nearly as good as what i experienced here. The service was fast and my piercer Mike was super cool and explained everything and it was really clean and i'm in love with my septum! Thanks a lot 5 month update: Great service! I came here in January to get my nose pierced after reading many good reviews of the shop on yelp. My piercing was done by Chase and he did a phenomenal job of helping me pick out the size of jewelry that would best fit my nose as well as the placement of the piercing itself. He talked us through every step and I never felt uncomfortable. The shop was clean and the piercing was beautiful. During my healing I had some trouble with it which I attribute to my novice self. Every time I emailed the shop I got a prompt helpful reply. I came back a few days ago and Mike changed my stud to a ring. Got my nose pierced here after my last one fell out and honestly the last one was at a bad placement with a crap jewelry. So good riddance. I got my nose pierced by Chase. I've been to two other piercers (well back in NY) and I didn't have as great of an experience as I did here. Chase is very knowledgeable and super easy to work with. He's not pushy however he gives really good insight on where it should placed. This was the selling factor for me. My first piercer was pushy, hence a bad nose piercing placement. My second piercer, which was for my ear lobes, was super lenient but didn't provide much insight hence the end results was also not that great. The only issue I have is the price point. It's definitely not cheap! I think I paid $60ish for just nostril - no fancy jewelry, just regular jewel stud. However, as guilty as I feel with paying that much for a piercing (when you can the nose done elsewhere with a gun for as low as $10 although that's highly highly highly not recommended!) I don't have any regrets. Since piercing is permanent and I am very very picky, I rather pay for a service that I can trust than otherwise. Definitely will be back. read more

He said he doesn't like to surprise anyone so he was going to tell you every step of the way what he was doing. Two days, that's how long my ankle was completely immobile after a tattoo session with Johnny Andres. &to properly emphasize the severity of my experience, allow for me quote the Artist who claimed to have an understanding of his craft, "I may have caused trauma to your ankle." By day three, I could put some weight on the ball of my foot, but sincerely, it took four days in total before the heel could bear any weight whatsoever. It took a week before the massive swelling dissipated. Mind you, he was working on a preexisting tattoo, so it's not as if I was a stranger to work in that particular region of my body. No, it was his technique--brutal--that robbed me of my mobility. It is not to be said that he is unskilled; artistically, I find some of his work to be marvelous. However, my work is cartoonish; it was awkwardly handled with lines from the preexisting version blaringly showing through, &it has a muddled color palette, which makes it hard to distinguish form or texture. Staff and artists are friendly, helpful and interested in the customers. I called in and I was taken as a walk in by Eman. But dont think this place empty enough to always take walk ins. Make an appointment or you may not get seen for a while. Though its worth the wait. Its clean and has an amazing atmosphere. The tattoos are amazing and the talent in this place is unmatched. Not a great atmosphere. They made us come in for a "consultation," which basically was standing at the register and answering the most basic of questions. Really, it's just to get a deposit. They had no interest in actually discussing the tattoo or matching you with the correct artist. I could have given them a deposit over the phone; no need to make me go there on my lunch hour to do this. Found everyone to be pretty surly, receptionist included. And then our "artist" Matt: took himself way too seriously. Wouldn't do what we asked for. Argued with our requests. All because he didn't want anyone to judge his work. Went in for a Daith piercing as a friend told me her piercing helped to reduce her migraines. I was very nervous about the process as I couldn't help but think that piercing cartilage would be very painful. My technician was Chase and he was EXCELLENT - professional and personable. Awesome work and customer service. I went there on chance for a single tattoo, and have had 17 more since then, including two cover-ups. Great artists, and all around friendly people. Incredible atmosphere, and they answer all your questions before and after (including if you have after-care questions or concerns after you leave). They give you honest answers and advice about tattoo placement, color, etc; and don't just BS you to make easy money. I've also had all 7 of my ear piercings done there.
