I made the mistake of taking my $10k Italian steel road bike somewhere else for a rebuild with disastrous results. These guys fixed what the other shop screwed up, put on the right parts at a great price and tuned my bike to perfection. I've been cycling for 15 years and along the way visited many cycling shops. Rock N Road Irvine is my favorite because of the outstanding team lead by Chris Williams. On a recent visit I brought in my Specialized Levo which was suffering from a malfunctioning electric motor. Not much inventory but I was approached right away. I said I was looking for a mountain bike with full suspension, he asked my budget and I said $1,500 to $2,000. He said their clientele simply tell them what they want "full suspension mountain bike" and pay the price. He thinks the price would be $2,500 to $3,000 for something decent. I know when I'm not welcome so I simply said I would go to a store with more inventory, thank you, to which he replied with some long talk about what they do and another store and a demo ride. What I learned in 5 minutes: They don't want my business I'm stupid or poor or a bad client for wanting to spend under $2,000 They are not a mountain bike store I'm sure the positive reviews are factual, but, if you're budget conscious I would recommend you shop elsewhere. read more

When I told him I was ideally looking to spend around $1,000 he made it seem like a waste of his time to deal with me. I realize the demand for bicycles has skyrocketed with COVID, but nothing about this store was pleasant. Regardless of what a customer is willing to spend, it would be appreciated if the employee(s) at this store were more approachable and less condescending. Politely walked in Irvine Bicycles for a new stem. Described my intentions for a short reach stem with a slight rise. Nothing complicated. First employee was helpful. He asked if I had my bike there which I did not. He insisted to bring in the bike. Im pretty confident with what Id like to purchase so I asked to just take a look at their inventory. Pretty simple request. Ready to spend money. As the employee and I started to walk towards the display, I guess maybe the manager or tech or perhaps owner cut us off at the pass. He asked the employee what I needed as he was working on a bike behind the counter. I spoke up saying Im looking for a stem. Again, pretty basic. A few questions into it, he insisted, I mean INSISTED, that i bring in my bike. Well ... i simply wanted to check out some stems? Frozen, I said,"ok sure." I decided to leave. He thought Its best to match up my stem and bike. Helpful i suppose but very pushy. However, I simply hoped to browse for myself. Again, fairly confident what I needed. Even told the owner It should be a 1 1/8 stem but what's the harm in checking my google and bike for the confirmed fitment. I just wanted to browse and buy. Unusual sales tactic. Very rude and non-existent customer service. The employee there didn't want to show us any bikes. He was very keen to send us off from the shop. He had no interest in selling to us at all. He stopped us at the door and asked, "What's your budget? We replied, "what've you got?". He says "I don't have any bikes under $1000 and don't have any coming in for months. I have more expensive bikes but they are for biking enthusiasts". I don't know why he assumed we were not enthusiasts or worthy of being shown his more expensive bikes. Anyway he finally showed exactly one bike for $1500 and went on to say it is so in demand that it's parts will be stolen. So don't leave it anywhere other than your apartment or dorm, and definitely don't use it as a commuter bike. I wonder why anybody would buy a bike and not use it everyday to get around. My experience was exactly like some of the other reviews where customers felt like they were Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, or felt like the employee thought we are stupid or poor or a bad client. My rear tire suffered an unpatchable-sized hole on the way to San Diego during my 1st century ride, and my friends and I just happened to be near this shop. The person who helped me, whom I assume was the owner/manager, took me at the register for the "Continental Grand Prix 4000 S II Road Clincher" 700x25 that I held in my hands. He gave my friends (2) and I cold bottles of water, a tire pump to check our tubes, and 1 free tube for me. The other 2 employees in the store were also friendly as they asked about our century. One HUGE downside to their outstanding customer service was the fact that my total came out to $75.59 after tax. My front tire (same tire) was bought on Amazon.com and the total after Prime 2-day shipping was an even $46 - a $30 markup! I would probably never shop here again based solely on their outrageous pricing on this tire. If not for their GREAT service that day, I would probably give this place 2 stars based on their pricing. However, they were extremely helpful when I needed it the most so this review is just for their service. read more

They sourced the framesets, the components ( a mix of Shimano Dura Ace parts and Ultegra Electronic shifting), ENVE wheels, Chris King Angry BubbleBee free wheel anodized hubs, Schwabe ProOne tubleless tires, Deda Integrated stem-handlebars, specialty length Dura Ace crank arms, and brake rotors. Basically told me I was looking for "trash" and was wasting his time, even though he wouldn't stop telling me how idiotic I was. I am not sure how someone can employ or continue to operate a business with someone who is so unprofessional. That being said I found bicycle tree a non profit in Santa Ana and they recycle bikes, if you are like me and don't need a fancy bike that is priced like a car then maybe you can find what you need at bicycle tree instead. I had an excellent experience here today. Alex the mechanic adjusted my Shimano Ultegra derailleurs and made sure my chain and cassette were still in good shape. He also adjusted my brakes and checked & adjusted the headset without me asking! He just checked the entire bike, lubed all the parts that need lube and then took it out for a test ride. I paid a very nominal fee for all this and will definitely go back for my next tune up. I met Frank the shop owner too. Like all my cycling friends have been telling me, he's cool! read more

A COVID story. I picked up my MTB today with my new tires mounted - bu NOT here. Last Thursday I called Laguna Cyclery and asked how long it would take to get my tires mounted which I had. They said the only way was to get online and the appointment was 2 1/2 weeks away. So I called Irvine Bicycles, in the Spectrum, and they said they could handle it with a 24 hour turnaround. However, it would be $50 PER TIRE to mount them. I wanted to make sure he understood that I had the tires already. He understood, that was just the "current" fee. Gouging! So I tried JAKKS, but not answering the phone. Finally I drove by Rock N Road in Laguna Niguel. They could do it in a couple of days. When I asked how much, they said $20 per tire. I said great and that delivered. I will never do anything at Irvine Bicycles again because I see them as profiteers. read more

The chains has fallen off my bike and I walked my bike 3 miles in 80 degree weather to take here, they said they would not repair the chains and they would have to do a full configuration for $100 because they had a lawsuit earlier and they can't do a simple repair. Horrible attitude. Would not recommend. Take your bike to Rock n Road instead. read more

I wanted to by my first road bike and during COVID it's hard to find a bike store that is willing to be helpful; I called many, most were less than welcoming. That said, I called Irvine Bicycles a few times to make sure they were open and they had the bike I was interested in. Talked with Alex and Frank, both were awesome. Came in and Simon helped me out right away. Within 5 minutes we were out back doing a test ride to confirm the basic fit and that I was comfortable. Simon then helped me pick out other essentials - repair kit, bottle cages, lights, air pump, tried on shoes and a jersey. Simon was kind, answered my question, and then helped me get the bike set up and ready to go. The whole time they were super busy; phone ringing off the hook, other folks coming in, but through it all Simon was focused on getting me what I need (even while answering the phone and working on my bike at the same time). Since they can't do a full fitting now, they gave me a raincheck on that. Net net, these guys know their stuff, they're friendly, they work fast, and they get you what you need. It was new, shiny (figuratively), and beautiful. I was thinking if I should upgrade. As I was admiring this frame, the owner came by. Within a few minutes, the owner asked the associate to hang the frame back on the wall. Ah, hello. I was still checking out it out. Everyone said they would have to order the part and they would need my bike for 5 days. 5 days!!!! Took my bike to my guys at irvine bikes and had it installed by Alex, one of the best bike mechanics around. He even cleaned my chain And lubed it plus did some extra work at no cost. I'd been shopping around for a Mountain Bike for the last few weeks and was put out by the attitude of a lot of local bike shops when they find out you're not interested in a carbon fiber beast with a full suspension. This was my first bike in over 20 years and I wasn't looking at buying something that cost more than my truck. I went into Irvine Bicycles and was greeted by The French Kid who showed me exactly what I was looking for. No pressure to buy anything other than the bike that was right for me. He made the required adjustments slapped on a complimentary water bottle (nice) and I was good to go. I'll be returning for any repairs and accessories I need and the future and when I'm ready to step up the carbon fiber beast I know where I'm going. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I walked in the store for a simple tune-up and rear wheel trued. Immediately, a mechanic told me I needed a new chain. I was like okay, what sketchy bike shop doesn't suggest that right away? I received a call the next day from the Manager and was told the following: -Right shifter was broken and it needed to be sent to the manufacture for repairs. Odd, it wasn't broken before it went in the shop. (Manager later confessed that he broke the springs.) -I needed a new derailleur. Had 2 mechanics look at it and no I didn't need one. -I needed a $10 dust cap on my bike or I can't ride it. (Uh yeah...) I requested to pick up my bike right away as things were not adding up. I was left with buying a new right shifter and taking it to another bike shop. If you value your bike, I suggest you take it to Edge Cyclesport or Cyclepro in Lake Forest. read more
