Great experience here yesterday for some minor things. I got a flat on the road and needed to get another Specialized Red Box Pre-Talc Thin Tube just in case I got another flat on the same ride. And I needed 82 PSI air in the tire I fixed because my hand pump can only pump to about 60 PSI. And I need to use the BR. I wish I could remember this man's name that was working understaffed yesterday, Sunday, but he was super helpful with everything, great personality and demonstrated a lot of knowledge about bicycles and suggestions. I was so upset that the flat happened literally .5 miles from where I parked/started and cost me 1.5 hours from my ride that already started late. But I was glad this bicycle store was opened to help out with a smile and great attitude. read more

I'd recommend buying a bike somewhere else. I bought a new specialized and the chain broke after 1 week. No support from the shop, just a shrug of the shoulders. I WANT TO SHARE THIS WITH AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE... About a week ago, I took my mountain bike into Rock and Road Cyclery in Irvine. Rob and Collin were working. I was on my way to ride Santiago Oaks for the first time on my new Turbo Levo SL. And all I wanted was to have a spare set of carbon cranks installed. My spare was not the right fit. BUT, while I was there, I mentioned that I was bottoming out my shocks (Fox 36 Elite w/ Grip 2). I told Collin that I was not very sure about my settings; even with HOURS of watching YouTube videos; and having rode/tried different settings. Collin was ALL over it! He completely re-set all of my previously incorrect settings. And he even test rode to verify himself. Since the changes, I have been back to Santiago Oaks 2 times, and also San Clemente - Dog Park. But the BEST was just yesterday, at Aliso Woods (which I have not ridden for about 3 months). I rode Lynx, then 5 Oaks, then Rock-It. I set 17 PR's on that ride! I TRULY FELT LIKE A PROFESSIONAL! I could not believe how fast, and confidently I rode through ALL OF THE DROPS... THE ROCK GARDENS... EVEN THE RUTS! And when my ride was over, my o-ring had NOT bottomed out! I'm just saying that if you need good advice/professional help, Collin is THEE MAN! THANK YOU, Collin! And THANK YOU, Rock & Road Cyclery Irvine! You guys are THEE BEST! And on another side note; I was thouroughly IMPRESSED by how kind and helpful that Rob was to the half dozen young teenagers who were all hanging out outside the store. Those boys were all tinkering with their e-bikes; and many came in to ask questions and looking for help. Rob assisted EVERY single boy with nothing but smiles and good advice/help. The owner, Chris, sucks. Tries to nickle and dime you out of anything and take advantage of anyone that' steps foot in the door. Chris will try and not fix parts that are under a recall, super unresponsive, and acts like he's helping you out for doing his job and you owe him one for working on your bike. I have been a customer here for over 10 years. I have 4 Specialized bikes so I have done business here many times. Today, Chris really hooked me up. Its not the first time either. He really tries and delivers the best customer service possible. I have worked retail, and its a tough job. There is a lot more going on than the customers usually see. I've never shopped here but am around the store a lot because it's close to our everyday activities. I was sitting with a 6 year old I watch when an older man approached a group of kids and 2 employees at the bike store. The old man screamed at the kids to move out of the way. The kids did, everyone was shocked by how rude and nasty the old guy was. As if it wasn't enough he turned around and got up in the kids faces to say who knows what to them. It felt very scary and unsafe but the amazing men that work at this store didn't care and protected the children being screamed at by some random deranged senior citizen. Admittedly, I jumped on the pandemic bicycle purchasing bandwagon. If you've been looking for a bike during the pandemic, you know they haven't been easy to come by. Having considered hybrid, road, and mountain bikes, I felt that good-looking hybrids were too expensive and road bikes were not cool enough so I decided on a mountain bike (because I fully intend to take it on some trails! :). A friend of mine had recently purchased a Specialized Stumpjumper Comp Alloy and I liked the look of it so I narrowed in on Specialized bikes. After previously striking out as a walk-in customer at three other cycle stores, I spent some time checking out inventory on the Specialized website and when I saw that the Irvine RnR had a Stumpjumper Alloy in my size in stock, I called to verify they still had it and headed on over. When I got there, Robert had already set the bike aside for me. After giving me some time to check out the bike, he suggested we take the bike out back to the empty parking lot for a test drive. He gave me some tips, showed me some of the features and insisted I try them out. I must say... I was super impressed by the dropper post! I was a little wobbly but he didn't make fun. As the Stumpjumper Alloy isn't the cheapest, I appreciated that he gave me considerable time to deliberate and didn't try to upsell me on anything. He prepped the bike for me as I deliberated so that it'd be ready for me to take home if/when I pulled the trigger. The Stumpjumper Alloy a little heavy for me possibly because I'm on the shorter end of the height spectrum for S2 but if I end up getting super into biking, I will splurge *a little* more for a lighter bike in the future. In the meantime, maybe you'll spot me on the trails with this blazing orange bike! :) read more

I inherited a free bike from a family member and knew literally nothing about road bikes. I was able to drop the bike off for a tune up in the middle of quarantine when bike shops were in high demand. I was so happy with how the bike rode after the tune up. But then, I got a flat! I had no idea how to change it back then. I quickly went to Rock N' Road and the guy was so nice and changed the flat on the spot and it was like like $11 or so. Superb customer service. I put my son 16" kids' bike together and could not get comfortable with the break, so I decided to get it check out. As soon as I walked in the store, I realized the store's clientele is much more... mature. Nonetheless, Robert helped me look into it and gave me a basic lesson for kids bike and told me how to get kids enjoying riding/ learning to ride. He validate the break, pump in some air for the tires and fixed a break cable end so it will be safer for my son all out of kindness of his heart. He won a customer in the future. read more

Terrible service! Do not patron this location! I was out on a ride and got a flat. I have tubeless tires and was not able to do the repair on the road due to sealer glue and extremely tight beads on the s-works tires. I was able to slug about 2 miles to get to this shop and request help. I'd just spent over $150 for the tires at Rock n Road and just 3 rides on them. This shop refused to assist in any form except a 3 day turn to look at the tire! Probably to get me moving, I needed just some sealer and air. I had about 5 - 10 miles to ride to get back. I only needed some emergency assistance to get me back to my car. I had to sort emergency assistance to get back. Screwed up friends on the ride and family as well. Horrible service! Never experienced such poor service from a bike shop. I've been a customer for years at their store. Way back when Stewart, one of tge o was news was working sales floor in the 90s and sold me my first mountain bike. Very sad they have gone SOOOO far down hill. Don't shop here!!! read more

I recently bought a Specialized bike from a shop in LA, and when I brought it home to OC I realized one of the front spokes was rubbing against the brake caliper. Rather than bring it all the way back to LA, I brought it into Rock N Road in Woodbury. Robert was extremely helpful, and even though I didn't purchase the bike at that location, he offered to fix the spoke problem and make a couple other adjustments for free since it was a new Specialized bike. I can understand that Covi-19 made everything difficult. But this did not mean that Rock n road could give client's low-quality product or anti-Asians. My daughter's bike had a flat tire and changed the inner tube of the bike in the store. And they charged me $25. Unfortunately, it only lasted about three months. Then we discovered that Rock n road replaced it with a very thin, low-quality inner tube. Should our neighbors support our local businesses and they provide us good quality products and service? What we need is a neighborhood that helps and trusts each other, especially in this racially integrated environment of Irvine. read more

This place literally saved my life. I am 40 with very little biking experience (other than 3 months of training) and very little road bike knowledge. I was given an older bike in great shape but just needed a quick check. With a busy job and young child it has been not possible for me to find the time. I woke up 2 days before my first Half Ironman (Oceanside, Oct 2021) with a flat tire and no clue or time how to replace. Luckily, my parents were in town (they have as much knowledge with bikes as I do!) and ran over and got it replaced with no issue and received great racing advice for me. Rock N Road also quickly fixed a gear which ended up being critical for me to do the hilly climbs. Point is: the course was very hilly with a lot of other popped tires along the way and I likely wouldn't have finished without Rock N Road. I look forward to meeting everyone at the shop and bringing another bike I have for an overhaul. (Finished race in 6:54:00. Amazing experience!!) read more

Was trying to support small/local shops, took a bike in since brake disks were rubbing against something and making a sound, and also wanted to put kickstand on, and let them know the road tires made it hard to put the kickstand on without hitting tires. Was called a few days later when bike was done. As I walked bike to door, I can feel something wasn't right on the bike. Looked carefully and the kickstand was rubbing against the tires. Am not sure how the person can walk the bike from the back and not notice this. Fortunately, they were able to swap out the kickstand and I thought all was good.... Turns out, rear brakes stopped working completely (they didn't take responsibility for it but it was working before). I took the bike back in and they basically said to try to get it repaired under warranty at REI. If not, they can research how to fix it and find the part to repair. Also, the employees didn't wear masks while repairing bikes and sometimes forgot to put masks back on when coming to the front (this is well before mask requirements are going to be lifted). read more

Props to the folks, including Manager Chris Williams, at Rock N' Road Cyclery for keeping it real for longer than I could remember. I went to a local shop in LA for a tune up not too long ago, and found that their service was dismal in comparison to what Rock N' Road have provided me over the years. They have plenty of parking in this shopping plaza and are exercising social distancing. Only a few patrons are allowed in a at time (I think max. 4-5) and others must stay outside until there's room to walk into the store and present your questions at an up-front table. From there a sales and service representative can go over all the options a road or trail riders. They are a Specialized bike retailer, so you'll see their product lines throughout the store. I have always wanted stay true to my Specialized bike with products that the OEM manufacturer has developed and think that's always a nice way to go. While the bike is still in good shape, Chris was able to help me find a new OEM seat for long rides that avoided saddle soreness. I think I'll be much happier on longer ride. It was affordable too! I was able to check it out in person, which always helps more than a mail order option. He also provided me with a on-the-go option for my handlebars to face up and assisted me with a solution that was amazing! They now angle up and I have far less back pain than I've ever had. I can bike for longer periods and in comfort - the way riding should be enjoyed. I cannot thank Chris enough for his time, patience, and explaining everything before and as he did them. I also picked up some cleaning parts and have been able to clean my chain and gears to give them new life. With a frank attitude and no upselling, Chris's demeanor and willingness to help on the spot is the reason why I will only come back to Rock and Road for my Specialized bike. read more

Had a bike tire that was flat and easy to take off, that once was inflated was not going back on past my brakes. I took it to Rock N Road, and the manager was soooo helpful. He took the time to teach me how to easily disengage my brakes so the inflated tire could go on, and even put some air in my other tire. I now will always know how to do it- really great customer service and sweet help. I highly recommend this shop for all your cycling needs! read more
