I ordered my textbooks online and paid for them. I received an email confirming my order. They've collected my money. After more than two weeks I had not received the promised "we'll let you know when they're ready" email and assumed I'd accidentally deleted it or it had gone to my spam folder. So, I went in. They said they hadn't figured out their system yet and I should wait for that email. I asked if they had the books. "Yes," they replied. "Then please give them to me." "No, we can't do that until we work out the system." It'll be another week tomorrow. How can you be so incompetent that you can't give someone the two books the bought and paid for? I'd fire whoever is responsible, maybe that would get his replacement energized enough to solve the problem. read more

I'm graduated now but when I came here for books and supplies I've never had a problem. They are pricey but I've never had to buy books since I was an EOPS student and also received the Pell grant to help me. I also received a $250 voucher for school supplies after I graduated to take with me to university. The supplies were high quality and so were the backpacks. They also carry headphones, chargers, and snacks just in case you need these things. Overall I've had a positive experience. However, as expected during the first week it's super busy so expect long wait times to get books and supplies and during the last week because people return books and purchase finals materials. read more

Hands down, the worst experience trying to receive/return books. Massively overpriced, never in stock, they don't communicate with the staff on inventory needed prior to start of school. Week 4 and books are barely being ordered for courses. I messaged them regarding returning an unopened book for a class I no longer needed. Took them 10 days to respond. They gave me ONE day only to come in person to return. I took off work to return this book, waited in line and the second I got to the front, the clerk told me their boss is the only person who can help and they just left so they can't help me. This is just the most horrific experience in general, trying to enroll, establish financial aid, purchase books, etc. IVC as a whole does not care about their students. If you can take the same courses anywhere else, save yourself the headache. read more

I absolutely hate this place with a passion. First of all this place is located in like a trailer look-a-like. And its SUPER SMALL! Ok so this is why I hate this place... -the service here is horrible...might be one of the worst customer services that Ive ever experienced...it seemed as if no one trained these people or that they dont care about guud services. -my book...I ordered a book and the staff member said that it would take 3-7 days for arrival...its been OVER 7 DAYS and I am extremely late in my readings. The reason I am pissed about this is that if I had known it would take over a week, I would have just ordered it off amazon...and I would have saved $$ too. Do not come here to order a book! Irvine Valley College Bookstore - Bookstores Near Me - Irvine, California

I'm attending IVC for the Summer and decided to go into the bookstore the other day. It was hard to find the entrance b/c the sign was somewhat small and you had to enter a building to enter into the bookstore. It's small, smaller than the university bookstores I've been to, as expected. I needed a lab notebook and I wanted to check on my order status (It has now been 3 days since I ordered my book). The 2 cashiers at the front were friendly, but a bit slow to just help out 3 customers. The girl at the back, with her little desk, was not quite friendly. She had a little bit of attitude for no particular reason. I work at the University of Arizona Bookstore and can tell you that our service (with many, many employees too) is WAY better than IVC's bookstore. STEP UP YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE, IVC. p.s. The only reason this place is getting 2 stars is because they usually have everything you could need for classes at ivc. Other than that they suck. I'm taking summer classes. Afternoon classes. I work full time and don't get out of work until 4pm. I have class at 4:30pm and they close at 4. How am I supposed to buy the scantrons I need for exams? Even the vending machines are out of scantrons. Everything about this school is making me want to leave. Mt. Sac here I come. read more

Sigh...here I am doing what I hate which is giving bad reviews but my reasons go like this: One semester ago, I went to Irvine Valley College to complete a math requirement which was stats. Like any other college student, I was broke, and finding a cheap book was of the essence. I headed over to this bookstore and searched for my book. Not only were there no used books, but there were no new books either. Huh?? A required class and no textbooks? I'd think they'd stock up. Anyway, I approached one of the girls on the book info center who was texting on her phone, and got no acknowledgement. I waited, and waited till she was done until she finally looked up and me and said "Is there anything you need help with" As much as I wanted to say "Yes, HENCE my standing here" I asked if they had of the required book I needed and she said I'd have to place an order and (insert long explanation here). Anyway, I explained to her that I needed the book asap and couldn't wait and kindly asked if there were any textbook store around the area, knowing there is always one around every college when she replied with a "You can always search for one online" with a smirk on her face. So...at this point I was tired of the customer service, or lack thereof and headed to the mini mall in search of a textbook store, and sure enough, found one! And of course, they were well prepared and had the book I needed and not only did I purchase it, but I sold it back after finals. I was a bit shocked that IVC had such a horrible bookstore, seeing as how I really liked the rest of their service but it turns out, it's not actually owned by IVC so that would explain a lot. I know their job is not to advertise other businesses but as a COLLEGE textbook store, their main priority I would think should be to help out students. I understand you're not going to be shamelessly plugging other business to students, but if the store you work for doesn't have the book, won't have it for a while, it wouldn't hurt to tell me there was one across the street which I'm sure they knew about because when I went across the street and vented my experience to the guy behind the counter he reassured me that the bookstore were very well aware of their existence. My suggestion to you: go to A Plus College Textbooks across the st. It will be cheaper, you will receive actual customer service and you will be able to sell it back for much more than you would at IVC. read more

This place should not be your number one choice in buying textbooks you need for class. I am a college student and former employee of the bookstore and I quit within a couple of weeks during rush because I could not stand this bookstore's organization/customer service and how they handled their business. The bookstore only has a limited number of stock, and once they're out, they're out for days. They do not order enough textbooks for all of the students that are enrolled/who want the class. If you can't get your book once you're at the bookstore, don't expect to come back in a couple of days and find the book in stock. The employee will tell you to 1) Come back in a couple of days, and to "keep checking back". 2) Offer you to pay for the book first, and once it comes in, they will contact you. Or 3) Look online. You are better off going to A+ Bookstore across the street, or ordering the book online. Also, just another note .. many people will complain about the customer service here. There are a few long term employees that I've met as a customer and as an employee that were really helpful, nice, and tried t heir best to meet my/the customer's needs. However, the majority of the workers you will find here during rush are temps. The managers do not provide adequate training to the employees, and throughout their temp. period, they employees perform many tasks and end up confused, hot and sweaty from running around. The managers here don't try to give you "excellent customer service". Unfortunately, it's more of a "I'm doing this because this is my long term job, just ask me the question and get out of my hair." and you can definitely tell by the look on their face once your get to the customer service desk in the back. read more

This place is horrible and the service sucks. Once, I came here to pick up a rental, and they had no problem accepting my id number as proper identification. But the next time I came, they asked for a physical ivc id, so I had to haul my ass all the way to the campus police station to get my id, and when I hauled my ass all the way back to the bookstore, they said they were closed. I would've been fine with it at that, but then a random girl came and the employees at the bookstore let her in and attended her needs! Why does she get to go in and I don't? Furthermore, why the hell did they not ask for a physical id the first time I was there? Another time, I waited in a long line and soon realized that there were employees who weren't doing jack and weren't helping the people in the line. Finally, the product selection is pretty crappy in general. The only thing that this place is good for is to pick up orders for books, and even then, the service is bad. I came one time to pick up 2 books, and it took them forever to get them for me, even though it should've been prepared, since I got the order confirmation. read more
