This was a very disappointing experience, largely due to the huge potential of this almost charming facility. The place is a wreck, which reflects the mentality of the proprietorship perfectly. On a night when there was frost on the ground, my parents arrived at the Irwin Street Inn to find that their room had no heat. "No one told you there was no heat in that building?" asked the manager, who was dealing with the problem via cell phone as there was no staff to be found. No, no one mentioned that fact and it took an hour of mind numbingly bad service to fix the problem by switching them to another room. When you add in the fraying towels, cracked epoxy on the fixtures, generally dilapidated condition of the place, and less than meticulous cleaning job it makes you want to cry for what this place could have been and most likely was once. read more

This was an absolute disaster! I frequently travel and I must say this was the worst experience I have ever had while traveling. First, the phone did not work at the front door to call the desk that we had arrives. After check-in we were lead to our room without any welcome of instruction about the amenities of at the Bed & Breakfast. I still don't know when breakfast is served, etc. The room was filthy, cobwebs, dusty, tub needed to be scrubbed, towels in the room smelled moldy. We were told that there was a problem with the heat and we could us a portable unit to heat the room. But, the two things that made me pack my bags and and leave were that the bed linens had been slept in and there was body hair in the sheets and the front door had a key broken off in the lock. Wouldn't the innkeeper has noticed this when he "opened" the door to show us the room? I decided to give the front desk a call to report my concerns and there was no answer....the phone rang, rang, and rang. We had to search the grounds to find someone to then go and locate the manager. We showed him the problem and there was not effort on his part to fix the problem. By this time I had packed my bags and left. I made a reservation on the phone for the Comfort Inn down the street which was clean and safe. This place has so much potential. We recently had our wedding here and it was rather disappointing. The venue is beautiful and cute but the service is seriously lacking. We showed up the day of the wedding and the tables were set up wrong because the planner had told me the wrong table sizes. Im just glad I bought extra centerpieces. And the planner wasnt even there when we showed up, in fact no one was. We had to call them to get the keys to our room and to find out why everything was messed up. Once everything started up, the food sucked. At our tasting, it was probably one of the best meals we had ever had, but the reception was totally different. The chicken was dry, the rice was crunchy and undercooked and the squash we ordered wasnt served. When I questioned why it wasnt there, the server proceeded to tell me that the order they got was rotten. Why didnt anyone tell me this BEFORE the wedding? It was just a very frustrating experience and I can honestly say that I will NEVER do business with this place again. No wonder they are struggling to pay their bills. read more

We had dinner here last night for my husband's birthday. Was very happy. I had lamb chops cooked perfectly. All the steaks and the salmon was also cooked perfectly We will be back. The downside. Found place by accident. All other hotels were booked. This hotel is like visiting aunt Betty's. If you are looking for perfection, this may not be the place for you. This place is charming and has a warm welcoming feel to it. Beds are comfortable, rooms are clean but not spotless as this is an old Victorian home. We stayed upstairs which is rumored to be haunted, this added to the fun, we saw nothing btw. You get a delicious complementary breakfast. There is a bar and sometimes parties on patio. Staff are informal but very friendly and accommodating. Price was very reasonable especially when you consider your breakfast is included. We will definitely come back. read more

This a secret gem. Chef Hussein is an outstanding cook. You MUST discover this cuisine and incredibly affordable. The service was attentive and honest. Dined in a quaint Victorian dining room by candlelight. You simply have to get out the small town of Hanford in the middle of California and discover this. And the rooms are charming. Lovely old Victorian inn right near downtown. Charming clean and quiet. A little dated in some respects but wonderful grounds and pretty restaurant and bar on premises. I did t get to eat here but walked easily to a lot of cute downtown places. A real find. read more

My husband and I just stayed there for 2 nites while visiting reletives in Hanford!! We loved the History and all of the Gorgeous Stain Glass windows, old wood moldings, claw foot tubs, and the antiques in the rooms are BEAUTIFUL!!! things you would never see in newer chain hotels!! The staff,Everyone was really kind and friendly!!! The Breakfasts were Great!!! We Loved our stay and we would definately go back!!!! This is an Old Victorian from the 1880s The Grounds and the old trees were Beautiful!!! We Just Loved the place can not say enough good things about it!!!! read more

We have stayed here many times growing up. Recently things have gone downhill. We had no running water in the shower or bath last time we were there. The tv was also not working. When we asked for help to fix, not even asking for a refund or anything, they literally wrote down that we were combative. Asking for running water is a basic expectation at an establishment. We were not combative. That behavior on their end is rude & shows such poor customer service. read more

I usually stay at the Super 8 in Hanford but I forgot to make my reservation and they gave me the address for the Inn and I am very satisfied with this place it's a old Victorian hotel with a restaurant. I had got an a upgraded room with a leaving room. I travel to many places but this room was by far the best hotel room that I have stayed in. The food at the restaurant here is the best. The chef personally comes up to you if he is free to make sure everything was ok and if he can make your stay any better. The staff here at the inn is very friendly. Now I'll have to make a tough decisions on which place to stay at because the super 8 in Hanford was a good experience and the Irwin Street was also really good because of the victorian look and all the antic things that are in the room. MAKE SURE YOU STAY HERE IF YOU ARE IN HANFORD YOU WILL LOVE THE PLACE. Hope the review helps! read more

Terrible - a nightmare!! No AC in 2 rooms, third room had no TV, no telephone, internet out (despite claims of owner it was working three of us couldn't connect). Took and hour to get breakfast. Room dirty, not cleaned after a days stay. Was assaulted by owner when I complained and asked for an adjustment to charges. Disaster, stay at your peril. read more

One of the very few upscale places Hanford has to offer. I've had dinner and brunch at Irwin House and both were excellent. The owners are very friendly and so is the wait staff. Atmosphere is very comfortable and sitting outside can be very nice indeed. read more

My husband and I stayed at this wonderful Bed & Breakfast Sept. 17th &18th 2010 for our 23rd anniversary. We LOVED it. Everything about the palce is just so nostalgic; from the clawfoot tub to the "throne room" (where the toilet is). The buildings are beautiful & the rooms are decorated very nicely. We also enjoyed our chat with the owner over breakfast. And discoverd his sister lives in our small town. The breakfast was wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay here and will for sure be staying here again in the future. Thank you for making our anniversary weekend a special one for us. I think a lot of the negative reviews on here are because the people were not looking for a quaint little B&B, but a Marriott or Hilton instead. When you stay at a B&B not everything is perfect. Most B&Bs are very old buildings & you must take that into consideration. That was one of my favorite things about the Irwin Street Inn, the small little imperfections. Hence the nostalgic part of the Inn. I must also say that the people of Hanford, CA. are some of the friendliest I have met. And we have lived in MANY different places. We stayed there over memorial day weekend. The staff was nice enough but the place is old and pretty much the same experience as staying over at your great grandma's house. Old furniture, old must smells, no maid service, etc... Our toilet wouldn't flush (kept running) and impossible to fix with out a ladder. We reported it, but no one ever came to fix it. The pointless loud dj music every night made it impossible to sleep. The breakfast was decent and the waitress friendly. Not at all like it was during a honeymoon stay in '98. read more
