The person who waited on us didn't help us for about 10 minutes because they were talking with a friend. Once we were helped they acted like they were put out and had better things to do. Island Cool Ice Cream is a local ice cream shop, with a high quality ice cream and lots of flavors from a local creamery. You are able to try any flavor before committing to one. Please be prepared that they do not take any cash so please bring a card or applepay. When I went, I got a small scoop that I was able to split into two separate flavors: Passionfruit sorbet and the snickerdoodle. The Passionfruit sorbet was extremely fresh and crisp that it brought back to my times visiting Asia and getting passionfruit smoothies and ice cream. The Snickerdoodle was fantastic and had loads of cinnamon with snickerdoodle cookie dough bits. I took of a star because the seating is EXTREMELY limited. A food counter. No place to sit. You can try samples before committing to your choices. This place gets crowded on warm summer week-ends! It can be a bit of a wait. And they do run out of flavors. On a hot Sunday evening, near closing-time, the store was nearly empty. Thankfully, they still had my favorite flavour (I guess that blueberry sorbet isn't popular?), so alles gut! This store carries ice creams from a few local producers, along with ice cream sandwiches and the like. You may have spotted the brands in nicer supermarkets. It's posh ice cream, so expect to pay a premium price, but the quality is there. We're big fans of "dark elf" (dark chocolate with more dark chocolate), mint and chocolate chips, and the fruity sorbets. read more

i got the pog sorbet and orange creamsicle flavored which paired really well together. the pog flavor literally tasted exactly like the drink, just frozen. the orange flavor was super nostalgic cause it reminded me of the plastic cups they used to sell with the wooden spoons. overall no complaints and i really enjoyed the flavors i tried. read more

Love that they are super close to the ferry, open early, and stay open later than apparently everything else (seriously, Kingston shutters their doors and windows too early), and serve locally made product. I hate spending money on the same crap everywhere and Island Cool has something new and different all the time. Most of the servers there are nice, some nicer than others. They have a lot of young people. The girls today were cheerful and nice and seem to actually enjoy being there. I sometimes walk by just to see who is working before going in. They have gluten free and dairy free choices. They're nice to my kid. It's always really clean. It's gourmet ice cream so the price matches that but I think it's worth it for local made, small batch products. They are just exactly what Kingston needs. We miss the old Mora but Island Cool is part of our regular stops now and we love it. There are three Mora Ice Creamery locations in Poulsbo, Winslow, and Kingston. The ferry lines were the typical summer variety with long waits. Oh darn stuck in lane whatever on this hot late summer afternoon in Kingston for an hour, twist my arm and walk up the street to Mora (8/27/17). Doesn't take much convincing! Yes, get it in a cup and grab plenty of napkins. My two scoops of dark chocolate and gianduja ($7.09) was an oozing challenge atop my car trunk. Rich, delicious, and gone while roasting in the sun. So delicious!!!! We had a little family outing on the Edmonds-Kingston ferry and came across this sweet place! It was a short walk from the ferry and right in front of the pizza place where we enjoyed our lunch. So it's location was perfect. It is a pretty small space, so be careful if you are heading in with a big stroller (like we did). There is one regular table (seats 4) and window/bar seating (also seats 4). Luckily the rush came after we were seated, so we were able to enjoy our ice cream without having to wait for a seat. There is extra seating outside as well, but it is starting to get chilly (not too chilly for ice cream of course lol) so that seating area is only for the brave. The ice cream itself is very delicious! Very thick and creamy! I enjoyed the cheesecake brownies flavor and I can't wait to come back for another scoop. My kids all enjoyed their flavors as well and even Hubby was happy. The price was a little up there, but well worth it. It just might be a place you treat yourself to every now and then instead of every day. If you are ever in the area and have a sweet tooth, you really need to come and try this place out! read more

This ice cream shop gets rave reviews by so many people. It's about two blocks from my house so it's very easily accessible. I'm not a big fan of sweets so I haven't been there but a few times. As ice cream shops go it's okay. Pretty much like every other quality ice cream that I've ever had. And when I say quality I mean it doesn't taste like ice milk or some such thing like that. They have a nice flavor board full of options that sound pretty good. A couple of good-sizes of cups and cones to choose. But, no matter what you choose, it's all expensive in my opinion. It is awesome to see crowds of people on a hot day in my town enjoying this local ice cream shop. If you love chocolate or even like it, I recommend the molten lava cake. It comes with a cupcake size chocolate cake filled with fudge and a scoop of ice cream of your choice. Ordered like my friend did and asked the server to surprise you with something chocolatey. And delightfully, it was a lovely surprise! I can't always promise that you'll always get a good surprise but it's ice cream and all ice cream usually guarantee some sweet satisfaction. I didn't try the cake itself due to this being my second dessert of the day but I took several bites of the ice cream and it was every chocolate dreams I had come true. Obviously this is a great spot and a wonderful location. They have it made being right next to the ferry terminal while people wait for the boat. I'm rating three stars as this creamery was pretty average in my opinion. I tried a couple different flavors and none exceeded my expectations or were anything new and different from the same flavors elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the ice cream, but there wasn't anything that set this place apart from any other good ice cream shops in Seattle. Overall a good spot to stop when you need a quick cold treat while waiting in the blazing sun. One quick ask, can you please provide another trash can outside your store? There was such a long line and trying to get back in the door to squeeze behind the patron paying just to throw wrappers/cups away was not convenient. The rich decadent flavors of mint, chocolate, and dulce de leche fills the taste buds with every spoonful serving. The creamy texture and finish was enough to send me into a blissful coma. The smell of waffle cones fills the sidewalk and calls on the attentions of other people passing by. All of these sensory overloading experiences while sitting on a street side bistro table is my slice of heaven on a hot summer day. The ice cream shop is small however experiences long lines stretching out the door. The variety of flavors and combinations was overwhelming. The creamery does offer other desserts such as lava cakes and sorbets. The staff was very friendly and ready to provide samples, recommendations, and even directions around Kingston. The added bonus of a beautiful ferry ride and water views was my rationale to hop on board without any hesitation. read more

The ice cream here is good, very very very creamy, but very expensive. We always get suckered into buying some ice cream, especially when we have to wait for the ferry line going back to Seattle. Great place for Ice cream if you were waiting for the ferry at Kingston. Not quite the bang for your buck 1 cup will cost you around six dollars. They will lsplit the cup between two different flavors so that's what I did. Always going to get pistachio and then I tried espresso mocha. If you're someone that loves a lot of texture like Cold Stone or Ben & Jerry's then this place is really not for you as most of the ice cream here is pure. The ice cream however is good and I would have it again. It just doesn't quite rank up there with other places that I've been to. Beggars can't be choosers when you're waiting for the ferry so you have this place and the crepe place which is awesome (see my other review) so it will definitely do while you wait for the ferry. read more

Wow wow wow! I tried the banana split and I was sold. I wouldn't really call it a banana split, it's more like banana foster, but whatever it is it's GOOD! It's so creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness. I love that it has swirls of caramel and CHUNKS of chocolate. $5 for one scoop in a cone is a little steep for me but this was some top notch ice cream and I'll be back anyway. Cute location. Ice cream good but not outstanding; especially for the price. 4 waffle cones were $32. Two young (teenagers) working counter (we were only customers) didn't greet, smile or thank us. Sad to see two beautiful young people in a front-of-business customer service role so lacking customer service skills. The lasting impression was boredom and a watching-the-clock-til-end-of-shift vibe. When trying to engage them in light conversation, they offered deadpan faces. Imagine the business if the servers were enthusiastic, engaged with customers and thanked them. It's an ice cream shop. Only getting the two stars for the flavor, the ice cream while delicious seemed like it was half melted and I had to eat it out of my cone with a spoon. My single scoop didn't even reach the top of my cone, and my husbands double scoop was pathetic. Customer service was definitely not tip worthy, no greeting upon entering (there were two girls working and no other customers in there). Over $14 spent for ice cream that definitely wasn't worth it. As everyone knows, I follow star ratings strictly. For me, Mora is A-OK. I'm not a fan, especially of their Kingston location, which is closed for much of the year and only open for the times they feel has the largest tourist influx in the town, the locals who eat ice cream years round are forgotten. They are finally open again, and after a day at North Beach with my kids, we stopped in for ice cream. The place is clean, bright, signage is great, lots of posters of their product, big, clear menu and smells great. Outdoor seating isn't much, but it's their and it's nice, they are limited by sidewalk size on this, there's a nice bench and a couple of umbrella covered tables with 4 chairs and a few other chairs without tables. Inside there is bar style seating, facing the street in the big window, which is smart to get passers-by in if folks are in the window savoring a double scoop waffle cone. The service was a bit dry and bland. They seem to traditionally employ younger folks that either don't understand the need for engagement, or have never been taught. There were no smiles and almost a mild annoyance when one of my children asked to try a sample of a flavor that she was 75% sure that she wanted to get, but wanted to be sure. The served us quickly, which was nice, but a bit more positive, upbeat interaction and some suggestive selling would have been so much better, ask me if I'd like to try this new seasonal flavor, don't wait for me to ask. Push the product on me a little bit, interact with my kids more and get them to try a sample so they aren't standing there in awe of the numerous flavors on the menu, but that they can't see in the vats. Watermelon Sorbet, if it had been handed to my kids to try, it would have been double scoop waffle cones all around for the 4 of them. My son decided on the cheesecake with brownies, my daughter ordered the dark chocolate with mint, her friend ordered a half scoop of banana split and a half scoop of watermelon sorbet. I had a double dulce de leche with shaved chocolate. The kids ate their up as we sat outside, however, I was not impressed with mine. The shaved chocolate was more like large chunks of chocolate, some the size of a rectangle piece off a Hershey bar, like it was chocolate that had been put into something to shave it, but these large pieces got stuck for awhile and then spit out into the batch and no one noticed. The ice cream itself almost looked and had the texture of something that had separated and then was frozen. Little pearls of an almost gritty ingredient. The only thing I could think is that if they actually went through the process of slowly heating sweetened milk to make the dulce de leche, someone heated it too fast but went ahead and made the batch with it, thinking it would all incorporate in the final product. But it didn't. It wasn't bad, I've had worse ice cream, but it wasn't what I expected from a higher end ice cream place. My kids were happy, I was okay with it. I will of course give them more visits, in all, I've been there about 12 times, the service is consistently dry, the product has been better in past visits though. Also, the open container of cherry tomatoes next to the cash register that the staff was obviously eating from before we walked in wasn't great to see, our server did not wash her hands before serving and no gloves were worn, I can only imagine that she had just popped a tomato in her mouth with her hands before we walked in. A little more staff training would be nice to see. Gloves when serving would be nice, they did use a wax nap to grip the cone when serving, but for me, gloves are just an added barrier and show a level of professionalism and concern about disease and food borne illness control that should be present in all food service establishments. read more

I went in to look at the options and came back out to have my husband get me a scoop of Dark Chocolate Mint (sampling was not allowed) while the baby and I wait outside. I was so excited to eat it because I love dark chocolate in anything. I was so disappointed. It was horrible. My husband tasted it in case my palette was off, but he said the same thing. The mint was too much, like the whole bottle of extract was dumped in. It was like eating toothpaste.
