A group of five of us dined here on an August Sunday evening around 6 pm. We arrived without a reservation and waited twenty minutes for a table. I scanned the walls and noted all the certifications and awards adorning them. My hope for a yummy pizza just went way up. After being seated in the center of the dining room, we were promptly ignored for ten minutes. Perhaps they were short-staffed this evening, but it was not a good start. We decided to order our dinners and drinks together to speed things up. The plan worked. Our food, though, showed up before our drinks, or even plates and cutlery were set up ten minutes after ordering. Boo. We started with a Caprese salad. It was fresh and tasty, but I would have enjoyed a softer cheese with it. Their mozzarella was too firm to my liking. Our two giant Sicilian pies arrived in a staggered fashion, but that was fine. These large rectangles of goodness looked inviting. We ordered a Hawaiian-style and a meat lovers pizza. This pizza was amazing. The thick crust was amazingly light and delish. I have never had a thick-crust pizza like this and not felt weighed down afterward. Great job. Service was terrible this evening, but the pizza was fabulous and made up for it. We will probably do carryout in the future, but we will be back for more of this goodness. read more

We did takeout so I can't speak on the dine in experience. We picked up and promptly ate, around the corner by the water. We had The New Yorker, a large pepperoni and a Caesar salad. Pretty sure the ordering page said it's a large salad for several people, it was not but it was $17 lol dressing tasted sour and not like a real Caesar dressing as it was also watery and an almost honey mustard color. Croutons were soggy and lettuce was not the freshest. Pizza was unfortunately just ok. Nothing special in my honest opinion. The pepperoni pizza had so little tomato sauce/ pizza sauce on it that it was dry. The New Yorker wasn't flavorful or anything exciting. Was it inedible? NO! Was it worth $68 ish? This pizzeria has been on our list for a long time, and it was well worth the trip from the city! The Gorgonzola Vegetarian is award winning, and so delicious. We also enjoyed the classic margarita pizza, and mac and cheese as well! I'm usually not a fan of deep dish, but the dough on these pizzas were light and airy, so I get the hype. The restaurant is casual and did not feel out of place with our baby in a high chair. Staff was friendly and flexible. I will be back! read more

A strong 3.5 stars. This place is popping. It was very busy on our visit. The service was pretty straightforward. Not outstanding but not sub par either. Basically just taking our order and that's it. We ordered two whole pizzas New York style and a few slices of pizza. The crust is great. It's a nice bite and chew and char. The sauce is tangy but a little heavy for my preference. The pepperoni pizza was very oily. Definitely a must try when you come to Kingston but nothing to come directly for. We happened to be in Kingston and stopped by Sourdough Willy for lunch We went into the takeout location thinking it might be faster. Took about 35 min to get our pies The Gorgonzola pizza New York style was very tasty. The sourdough crust was fine but was not crisp. The smell of sourdough was very light. Overall good pizza but not better than what you would get in a New York pizzeria The NY style deep dish was a different story. The sourdough crust and the smell was coming through well. Unfortunately the sauce wasn't enough and the toppings were minimal. Was less of a pizza and more of a flatbread. The bottom and the edges were crisp to perfection Service was friendly and the staff did a great job answering questions. If you are in a hurry grab a slice or two from their ready to go section. If you are riding a ferry be prepared to factor in about an hour for a fresh pie. Also not sure if they use electric ovens for the pizza at the takeout versus the restaurant that has a wood fired oven. Really good pizza! Pepperoni is the best I've had. Edges a little burnt, but that's how I like it. Their seating is a bit weird, but U get it. They don't like to put too many on the wait list an hour before closing. Luckily we did get a high top table After waiting 15 minutes. Service is great. Will I return? Just like most people found this place off of the award Winning articles. We took the ferry pedestrian style and the spot is just off the ferry landing. Got on the wait list, was told 30 min and was seated in about 10 min. The menu was a good size and had a fair amount of options. We got the artisan air bubble one (new york?) And it was so nice. Fluffy and tasty! We also had the wings, they were good not the best, and definitely not the worst, they were just good. New restaurant vibe and a cute space. Only ONE bathroom and the line was always long. The issue I had was the server. We sat at the bar and the people seated after us got served first. When he finally talked to us it wasn't the traditional hi, welcome to the restaurant, it wasere's my spiel it was very much, so what do you want with no greeting. He was slow as molasses. I've been to sourdough Willy's before and it's been great.. I'm willing to chalk this up as a bad day.. but it wasn't just a bad Pizza day. We also ordered the gorgonzola bacon dip with bread to go.. we specifically asked if we could get it at the end of our meal because we were going to take it home to somebody. They brought it before our wings and Pizza.. which isn't the biggest deal. But I opened the to-go box and it was just the bread and a big glob of the Gorgonzola dip slapped into the box... No little container or anything. We had to ask for a container and then put it in ourselves. Then the pizza came out burnt.. and it wasn't just one slice it was one half of the pizza. So when the waiter / bartender finally came back to see how things were going we showed him and informed him about the pizza and he gave us 20% off of the pizza. Wish I appreciate but.. I would have liked them to just offer us another Pizza made correctly. I absolutely loved the thick-crust Sicilian pizza! I ordered the 16-inch square BBQ chicken pizza, and the ratio of sauce to dough was perfect. Although there could have been a little more chicken, all the flavors were well-balanced and worked beautifully together. I especially enjoyed the addition of feta. The crust had an amazing sourdough flavor. I love that they use such an old sourdough starter and follow a five-day process--it really shows in the taste and texture. The pizza is also a great size and could easily feed four hungry people, or up to six people with smaller appetites. I visited on a Saturday and waited about 30 minutes for my takeout order, but that was understandable since the pizzas are made to order. The cashier was very friendly while taking my order. My boyfriend and I had our dog with us, so we brought the pizza to a nearby park with a gazebo and table, where we enjoyed a beautiful water view. The restaurant is conveniently located near the entrance to the Kingston ferry. It's no surprise that the chef has received awards for his pizza. After much anticipation, I finally got to try Sourdough Willy's! I live in Seattle so I stopped by on my way home from the Olympic Peninsula. My high expectations were certainly met! We ordered a margherita artisan style pizza and a Gorgonzola vegetarian New York style pizza. The artisan style was served very hot and fresh so you have to wait a little for it to cool down before eating. The middle of the pizza was thin but crispy, and the crust was crunchy when you bit into it but soft on the inside. The crust was delicious and actually had a sourdough flavor to it! The red sauce had a little bit of a tang, but it wasn't too strong. I noticed that the New York style pizza was served a cooler temperature than the artisan style pizza. The crust on the New York style pizza was much softer and bread-like compared to the artisan. It was a thicker crust, so I don't think I would actually classify it as New York style. But it was still great in its own way! I really enjoyed the Gorgonzola sauce and the textures that came from the red onions and pine nuts. I was a little disappointed that you can't do half/half toppings :( I don't like mushrooms but my boyfriend does. We ended up getting mushrooms on the pizza and they were fairly easy to take off. I do feel like there could have been a little more sauce on both the pizzas. Service was great - our server was very kind and attentive. The pizza didn't take too long to come out either. I'm from NY and been in Seattle area for over 12 years and this is some of THE best pizza I've found, can't believe it's taken this long to find but then again, had to take a ferry to discover it. The best pizza in the region. Hands down. Each crust is unique and amazing. Never order anything other than pizza here. The salads are meh and the pastas are gross. But the pizza more than makes up for it. Seriously THE BEST. My personal favorite is the artisan style (which is like a traditional Napoli crust) and the Sicilian style (which is like a pan pizza but sourdough and tangy). I love all the toppings. Service is a bit tricky especially with ferry traffic on the summer weekends. Our trick is to order the pizza for pick up while on the ferry and then eat on a picnic bench outside once we land. read more

It looked amazing walking in, the pizzas looked huge and likely full of flavor. It's a busy place we walked across ferry to try it. Wait was about 45 minutes and they had a good online tool for tracking the wait. Atmosphere is nice although only 1 bathroom for the whole place. So find somewhere else before you go in or could wait your whole meal just to wash hands... Pizza arrived, we ordered the Sicilian carnivore pizza. It took a lot longer Than the flatbread and caprese for our others at our table so ended up eating separately. Food feedback, if craving a lot of bread this is the pizza for you. Personally if I ever eat there again I would likely double or triple the toppings as what comes in the pizza basic order was nowhere near enough to address the amount of dough. Root beer was bland so wouldn't order that again either until tasted to see if syrup mix or flavor improved. Others with us had flatbread which may try if go back again. The caprese was huge so did like the looks of that. Won't be going back just to try again likely based on first experience but could see giving a 2nd chance if can get an order in when planning to get stuck at the ferry. The pizza arrived in a reasonable time, but the mac & cheese didn't come out until an hour later--30 minutes after the restaurant had already closed. The delay caused us to miss our ferry. Our waitress wanted to ask her manager to comp the dish, but they were nowhere to be found, and no alternative solution was offered. The BBQ chicken pizza itself was underwhelming. The crust had an interesting texture, but the flavor was bland. We also watched the table next to us be told they couldn't share a chocolate mousse because it was "against restaurant policy to share desserts." They later tried to return it after learning it contained coffee--an ingredient not listed on the menu--which conflicted with a dietary restriction, but the request was refused. Finally, we observed numerous flies landing on plated food waiting to be delivered to tables, which was concerning from a food safety standpoint. Between our experience, what we witnessed at the neighboring table, and the sanitation concerns, we won't be returning. The overall customer service fell well short. read more

I have been itching to try this pizza for so long. After an unexpected ferry wait, we decided to grab a slice of pizza each for lunch. Now this review is only based on this slice which was...ok. I had the bbq chicken pizza and the sauce was too sweet, pizza overall a touch saltier than I liked and the crust wasn't memorable. Price was good for how big the slice was... You could definitely taste the sourdough at the crust edges so I want to go back and try the other two versions. We will be back and I'll give it another review. read more

The line outside of Sourdough Willy's in the sleepy town of Kingston is always a positive sign of things to come. The pizza itself is delicious, but it does come with a wait. My wife and I made the trek over to Kingston from Edmonds, and we had Sourdough Willy's on our radar. The place is adorned with awards and the fragrant smell of fresh pizza, which enticed us even more. We decided to order the Detroit style pizza and chose the New Yorker as our topping. Although we couldn't add garlic as a topping, our waiter said he'll bring some garlic to our table, which was a pleasant surprise. I advise either 1. Being patient with the pizza, or 2. Coming not during opening or busy hours. We waited a good amount of time (maybe 40 min) for our pizza to arrive. I get that there's not many servers, and it seemed a bit short-staffed, but we found ourselves checking the our phones periodically. The pizza itself was great - the sauce was so flavorful and the crust was nice and fluffy. The burrata cheese added a cold sweetness that paired well with the saltiness of the pizza. Amazing pizza, and we would easily come back to try other types of pizza! The ding to the rating was the service though - a bit slow, and our waiter, albeit a super nice guy, was really slow. When we sat down, we waited 10-15 for water. Waited a long time to place our order. If anything, the fastest part was getting a box and paying (which I get, since the line out the door started to extend with every minute). We weren't even given our side of garlic that we were promised! Overall, solid and delicious pizza in the heart of Kingston. Got there about 6:30 on a Friday night. Had to wait over an hour to get a regular (not high top) table, but the wait is always worth it. This place just puts out pizzas that are really amazing. The Detroit Cal Tony is cut into sections and each one is a small meal. Same with the round pizzas. We get 3-5 meals out of each of their pizzas. The only disappointment this time was the pear and arugula salad ($17) that was literally just some pear slices on a huge pile of arugula with some walnuts sprinkled around and not nearly enough balsamic dressing. Enough for 3-4, but a bit too rustic. This is a fairly small, informal place, but with great food. All in all, worth the wait and worth a trip. read more

Really poor service experience. I've seen the owner on socials so I approached him and explained that my husband's meal had come out, and was finished, and no sign of mine. He then explained that pizzas take longer etc. Not a problem, but then the pizza that comes out eventually is burned and not correct so the pizza maker told the server that he wanted to remake it.....but she knew how long we had been waiting, it was 65min at this point (lunch hour). WOW, WOW, WOW. My first two to three bites of each pizza I couldn't stop exclaiming "yum!" This place is so cute settled in the picturesque ferry area of Kingston. I loved the style of decor and the fact you could see the beautiful wood fire oven in the back. The staff were friendly enough. The pizza?!? I hate to oversell/overhype but this is quite possibly the best pizza I've ever had. The portions were good sized, definitely we were able to share 2 pizza with the 4 of us and have leftovers at the end. I enjoyed the bbq pizza thoroughly and was pleased to see even though it was the thin New York style slice, it still has a nice bread-y crust to dip into their yummy jalapeño ranch. The star of the show was the New Yorker. The tomato sauce wasn't too acidic and the ricotta gave it an amazing texture. The crust was DIVINE. I loved the Detroit style of crisp at the bottom. The restaurant was empty with staff inside, yet I was told I couldn't pick up my pizza there and had to walk around the block to the pickup window in the rain even though the pizza was already inside. There were also no napkins or pepper flakes included, so I had to go back again to ask. When I got home, I found a human hair in the pizza and had to throw it away. Made a little trip across the water to try some 120 some year old starter sourdough pizza. We arrived mid afternoon on a weekend, hoping to get some slices to go. But the place was pretty busy and they practically had no slices to offer. We ended up getting the margherita pizza Romano style. The pizza took ~30 minutes, and we ate it outside on their sidewalk seating. The pizza itself was pretty good. Sourdough base isn't super tangy, but the bread is thick and airy. Romano style is interesting because there isn't an even layer of toppings on all pizza pieces. Overall though, I enjoyed it. Totally worth the hype, in my opinion. The fact that so many people are willing to travel, myself included, just for this pizza should speak for itself. It's right next to the ferry stop and you'll notice most people are getting off the ferry and going straight here. The wait times are long. We went to the restaurant first and were told 45 minutes (ended up being shorter) but decided to go to the carryout side instead. Still took about 45 minutes or more for our pizza but totally worth it. There are some counter seats in the carryout side. The pizza is excellent and I can see why it's so busy. read more

Recently I traveled from NY to Seattle and visited Sourdough Willy's for lunch with my family treating us out for what was supposed to be a pleasant Italian lunch. We ordered 2 appetizers artichoke/spinach dip with toasted sourdough sliced bread and roasted Brussels sprouts with spicy Italian sausage and Parmesan cheese. Both appetizers did not meet our expectations, I have several allergies as well as breathing problems that also include asthma. I took a taste of the dip and immediately needed my inhaler and a glass of sugared ice tea to help me breathe and be able to swallow. I needed to get my lips to stop burning and I found out to my total surprise this was made with jalapeños. The entire dinner experience I had a raspy voice and was freaked out that if I didn't recover they'd have to call an ambulance to help me breathe. Others at my table dipped into it to try to see why I was turning white and unable to explain what happened. They agreed it was not at all what was on the menu and we later found in fact it had jalapeños, something the waitress was not even aware of. It took quite awhile to feel better so I could see if I was able to enjoy the margarita pizza we also ordered with a Cup and Char pizza. After finishing the bill arrived and although there was much discussion about how the actual contents of this dip were not included in the description on the menu, and no one could eat it, it was still being charged to the bill. I felt terrible for my cousin paying to treat us all out and he asked to speak to the manager about this situation. She did not want to credit us for this inedible food explaining they were going to change their menu in the future but would still include the charge because we tried tasting the dip. Everyone at our dinner were seniors, and we all have lived in many states across the country and have traveled the world for pleasure and business and can collectively say we have never had such a terrible, unprofessional response by anyone dealing with their unsatisfied customers. Eventually after much discussion it was taken off the bill, something that should have been resolved before it was ever presented for payment. When feeding anyone in a restaurant the food contents should be included in the description especially if the food being creating is an entirely different dish with contents that are extremely spicy and offensive to anyone eating it. This restaurant in Kingston, WA does not have typical Italian cuisine. The pizzas were delicious with a sweet sauce and beautiful crust. Having resolved the issue and being told by the manager the menu was going to be changed that would include proper descriptions I actually might try it again on my return visit . Not a fan of spicy meatballs and red pepper flakes and certainly never want to eat a jalapeño in my food unexpectedly again! Food - 5 star (if you order what's on the menu, no modifications) Service - 2 star Staff helpfulness/friendliness - 2 star Bathroom - 1 star Have you ever been to a place where the food was unbelievable good and everything else seemed to be a disaster? Every time we go here, that's our experience. The service isn't great however they can be found clustered together talking to each other..... so while the place can be busy, they don't pay real close attention to your needs. I usually get up and ask for what I need. Our last dining experience, we sat at the bar and well, we had to find someone to ask who and when we could get our order in since we were sitting for quite some time. We've tried to modify pizza because of dietary requirements, and it was a disaster. My advice, don't do it, this isn't custom pizza where you pick your toppings. The bathroom is gross every time we come. Has me wonder what other parts of this restaurant look like that we can't see.... hmmm.... In total, I don't know if we'll be in for a while, not sure if the food is worth it anymore. Overheard someone talking about some award they received for their pizza. While that might be so, many parts of this restaurant fell short. read more

This pizza is incredible! I hopped on a ferry twice in one week just to have it again! Both times I've been I was seated right a way and the servers were lovely and helpful. It's in a great location too! I've had a lot of pizza in my life and this one blows my mind every time. read more

If you do go, only eat there during busy times, when the pizzas don't sit for long! We went there to grab a slice mid-afternoon, and the food was left out improperly for too long and spoiled. Spent the rest of the day sick. read more

Come here for the pizza. The crust is by far the star of the show. All of us loved the pizzas we tried. One thing to be aware of, the service here is slow. When we were here, the entire place was run by kids. read more
