My family were searching for a new dentist in the area and we found Island Dentistry. We could not be more happy with the staff and the dentists. The front desk is very welcoming, professional, and courteous. My teenage son was first seen for a cleaning and consultation for several extractions. The hygienist was amazing. I let her know my concerns and she was very understanding. She made sure that my son knew all of the consequences for not taking care of his teeth. She is amazing! I am terrible with names but I do believe her name was April. If I am wrong please forgive me. He later saw Dr. Scales for fillings and teeth extractions he had zero complications or complaints. His mind was at ease and he was told what was being done and what to expect every step of the way. As I waited in the waiting area they made sure to let me know how he was doing a couple times throughout the procedure. Afterwards, Again I am terrible with names, the young lady with beautiful red hair, was very thorough with the after care instructions I was confident in what needed to be done at home. I had a very small filling fall out and they were able to make an appointment for me quickly. Before my appointment I had a bigger filling fall out, they got me in and were able to assess the problem and do a temporary fix until my appointment and made sure I was not in pain over the weekend. I saw Dr. Moreno and he was amazing. His staff put my mind at ease, as I have a fear of the numbing shots. I did not even feel the shots or anything else during the entire procedure. They made my crown the same day, so I did not have to get a temporary crown and take more time off of work for another appointment to get the permanent crown. Again I am bad with names, this young lady is from Kentucky, and she made sure my crown was perfect. Her and Dr. Moreno made sure that all of my concerns and questions were addressed before I went home. The young ladies at the counter when you leave are great as well. They have always addressed any questions I had. I know there are some behind the scenes people whom I have never met but they answer the phone when I call and they are amazing. They always explain everything to me and make sure I completely understand before we hang up. As I stated earlier they made appointments for me very quickly when needed, even called me if there was a cancellation so I could be seen sooner. I had high hopes for Island Dentistry. Tracy that did my dental cleaning was excellent. The front desk was professional. I liked the Christian music. Dr Scales seemed competent and not excessive in recommended treatment. I had two cracked teeth that needed crowns and I was glad to know that they have the technology to produce the permanent crowns onsite (CEREC Technology). Everything was going fine until he put the first crown on the wrong tooth. At that point it had to ground off and another crown made. I also had to have more shots of pain killer since it was wearing off. I had been in the chair for 3 hours. I was aghast on how that could happen. Was there no formal way to label the crowns to correspond with the tooth it goes on? Evidently not. I am a trained safety and health person and an accident investigator. It's been my experience that mishaps similar to this often indicate systemic problems in processes. It takes a procedure change and training to prevent recurrence. I made a suggestion to a dental tech (Amber, I believe) on one simple way to prevent recurrence. I have no idea if that has happened since my visit. This appointment was in January. I intentionally waited this long to not be biased by my emotions. BTW, no one called me even after I cancelled my next appointment. I was very disappointed in the visit. They did give me a gas card. I thought it was a weak gesture. read more

The worst dental appointment experience I've ever had. I scheduled my appointment with the office directly. I received an email and text messages stating that I had an appointment for 2pm today. I arrived at the office only to be told that I was removed from the schedule because I confirmed my appointment too late! I drove across town and left work early for this appointment. The office staff and manager did not offer any solutions and said that it is the patients fault if a confirmation wasn't received. Come here for my regular checkups. Cracked a crown last night and the sharp edge was bothering me. Called and was able to get an appointment this afternoon. Checked in, took some x-rays (confirmation of cracking crown). Dr. Scales saw me almost immediately,did some quick checks and decided the crown did not require replacement. Today was my first time back at the dentist since COVID started and I couldn't have been more comfortable. You call and let them know you're there before you can go in and then they take your temperature. I had to wait a few minutes to go back and the woman up front made sure other people who came in stayed spread out. All the staff is masked the whole time and patients keep their masks on until they're ready to start your treatment and after. I saw Dr. Zhang for the first time today and she was great. I live 30 minutes away now and still make the trip over because I feel so comfortable with the dentists and staff. Can't recommend them enough. read more

Ashley is my hygienist and does such a great job with my cleanings and X-rays. Dr. Scales is very professional and ALWAYS follows up with a personal phone call after any procedure that he's performed . I've had several Crowns made in this office. I did have a problem with one Crown that a former partner in the office made. It cracked. Dr. Scales replaced it without hesitation, and it was covered under his warranty (no charge). Dentist have been doing this Covid step process since the beginning of time and island is just going a step above. I've been searching for a gentle and kind dental office that takes my Insurance. I found it. This place is clean and easy going. No tv :/ lol to keep you distracted but my hygienist did a great job keeping my mind occupied. I've never been so hurt in my life as how I was hurt today. I had an appointment today at 10 am, but due to traffic on 295, I was running late. I got a phone call at 10:03 am, I picked up the phone and told the people I was 2 minutes out after talking for a minute. As soon as I hung up I got another call from them, I said I just hung up, and that I was 2 minutes on the way. I pulled up to turn in and I had to wait a whole minute due to traffic, then when I got there I had to wait a minute to park because the whole parking lot was filled with a delivery truck. So I finally walked in at 10:08 am and the lady said sorry we can't take you today. I thought she was playing but she was serious. I've been coming here for years and loving this place and then this happen. I took off for this appointment and it's sad that I can't control traffic. I guess the Lord had other plans and didn't want me to go. He must be stopping something. read more

I honestly wish I had not waited so long. I needed a good bit of work done to get me back on track. They really helped me to prioritized my care. I was able to get some of the major things done that I NEEDED but also, to boost my confidence, Dr. Scales made sure to fit in the cosmetic work that I really WANTED. I still have some things to take care of, but I know I'm in good hands. They are truly "gentle" dentists And they have the latest in technology. 3 hours to extract one tooth and was given minimal pain medication. The office called me to see how I was doing and I explained to them I was still bleeding swollen and in extreme pain. They told me to come by the office and let them look at it and see if they could help me out so I ventured off in the rain making it to their office for them to tell me I was fine to tough it out and eat Tylenol. Now I'm not a big advocate of pain medications but three hours in a chair for one extraction that is something serious and it hurt I would not recommend going to this facility if comfort is at the top of your priority list. There are sooo many good things to say about this place, I don't know where to begin. To start with, I got a first time patient tour. I was also given a small Bio of the place, doctors and staff. Everything is very well organized and in order. Staff is super friendly and they make you feel very welcome. Everything was very clean with high-end tech. I had Jen as my hygienist and it was the best experience I ever had in a dentist office. I kept telling them that I couldn't wait to tell my husband and daughters about it. I love this dentist office so much. I've been going to them for years but recently went for the first time since covid started and I was so happy to see all of the precautions that they have in place. As other reviewers said, you call and when they are ready you go in to check in. Although they were being socially distant in the waiting room, I asked if I could wait outside and they were very accommodating. Masks stayed on until treatment time and they even had a hepa filter running in the room. The dentist never inflates the amount of work you need to have done and are always straight forward with recommendations. I've come across dentists that are straight up crooks but I'm very comfortable with Dr. Scales and his team. I highly recommend this dental office! read more

Went in yesterday for a routine dental procedure. Received novocaine for upper right jaw. Upon completion of procedure, I had a severe case of double vision. It was so bad, I was nauseous and had to cover one eye to make it outside. Very scary and disconcerting. I had to call my husband to drive me to the ER. DR. Scales thought it was vertigo. When you Google, it says this is a very rare occurrence for Novocaine. The ER doctor stated the novacaine impacted my optical nerve. My complaint is that Dr. Scales, although he offered to help me to my car, has not followed-up to see if I am alright. Stayed 3 hours in the ER until the novocaine wore off and sight returned to normal. Not great customer service. read more
