I was so excited to have dinner at this place after seeing many advertisements in social media however it was very lacking in both atmosphere and quality food. I had the special, tuna, which was pretty good but my husband ordered a steak which was awful. Poor cut of meat which wasn't even cooked to order. If I could, I would give this place more than five stars! We went on a weeknight in the off-season and I'm sure that made a difference. The place is tiny but was not too busy during our visit. I could def see it being a little noisy when fully seated. I had the pork chop entree and my wife had the crab cakes. Both were prepared with care and so delicious. The portions were generous. What a cute little corner place with a lot of characters. Feels like a nice local hidden gem kind of place. The cheesey crab dip was good but maybe the crab flavor was a little lost in the cheese. I've heard they can be crowded on weekends and Mondays and Tuesday's during their BOGO. Either way it's a great spot!! That said it was nice to not have a huge crowd. Very fresh food. My husband and I have been joking that when we go alone with a child sometimes our food comes out too soon. That was somewhat the case - but that's okay. Nothing crazy salty as it tends to be in some "beach restaurants". Sautéed Shrimp & Scallops $34 That was so delicious, lick the plate! The scallops were tender and delicious. Blackened Grouper $37 Simply delicious; a type of fish a little more salty, and still so tasty, the mashed potatoes embrace the flavor of the fish with love. Grilled Mahi-Mahi $36 My fish was just right! (a little raw in the middle) Not all people understand the value of this fish being eaten raw. I would maybe change the rice for more vegetables or maybe mashed potatoes but only because I am not a person who is passionate about rice. Overall, everything was very good and tasty. Though it doesn't look fancy inside or out, this place serves the finest food we have tried in the area. Granted, the menu is very small (4 dinner choices on the menu plus one special), but our party ordered 3 of the 5 items and we were all impressed. I had the special which was red drum on mashed potatoes. The fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly and the potatoes were great too. The chef made a wine suggestion (after our choice couldn't be located) and it was reasonably priced, delicious, and a perfect pairing. They offered 3 deserts and our party tried all three - and they were wonderful. There is plenty of parking. So glad we found a place that serves something beyond fried fish platters! read more

This place was AMAZING! Who would have thought at a island seafood joint I'd have one of the best steaks I've eaten! Also, to make it even better on mondays and Tuesday they do BOGO entrees. My fiancé got the swordfish which he also really enjoyed. The cocktails (Mule and tropical lemonade) were also on point. We made a reservation as we were told that it was a very popular place. When we walked in the place was small, crowded and very loud. It was difficult to speak with my wife across the table. We over heard other guests make the same comment. We asked for bread and were advised that it had to be purchased as an appetizer. That was surprising especially for a rather high end restaurant. The staff were pleasant but hurried and being so cramped, it was difficult fir them to navigate the restaurant without bumping into patrons and other employees. The food was well prepared and tasty. My wife had the filet. It was tough. She swore it was sirloin. My grouper was perfect. The key lime pie was the best we have had in a long time. For the two of us, we look for a good dining experience and not simply good food. The food here is very good, but the noise and cramped quarters will keep us from returning. Having a place in MHC, my family has been a regular customer of the AB/MHC/Beaufort area eateries for the better part of the last 10 years. Island Grille used to be a fan favorite for my family. We'd do the Monday BOGO, come here for birthdays, etc. Over the last few years, it just slipped off our radar. We've been hitting up City Kitchen and Beaufort Grocery more regularly. Island Grille popped in our minds when we were looking for a place to celebrate my dad's birthday. They were very accommodating and were able to squeeze my family of 4 in for a reservation that night. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate with a small dining area and dim lighting. It really had all the ingredients for success, except the one key ingredient: the food. 1. My mom got the Sea Scallop and Jumbo Shrimp entree with "sautéed with garlic butter, lemon, exotic mushrooms, ham, and spinach" over "cheddar" "grits" ($27) The scallops and shrimp were fine. The shrimp was not jumbo, but whatever. The grits had to be instant, as there was a pool of water sitting on top of them (not broth, water). I truly can't imagine making grits this bland and this poorly. My 2 y/o Schnauzer could cook better grits. They were watery and quite literally had no taste. It was bizarre, it was like eating air with the consistency of watery grits. We were dumping salt and pepper on them just to see if we get SOME flavor, but alas nothing. They sprinkled some uncooked spinach on top which was weird, but I guess ok. 2. This is the real kicker that I just can't get over. My sister and dad got the Jumbo Lump Crab cakes "paired with spring pea orzo pilaf, pickled vegetables, and sriracha lime aioli" ($32) The lump crab cake was good. I'll give them that. but WARNING: THE "spring pea orzo pilaf" is indeed UNCLE BEN'S RICE WITH PEAS AND CARROTS. I watched them as they were taking the first few bites and an expression of confusion fell on their faces. Something is right here? "Is this.. Uncle Ben's rice," my sister asked. "I was thinking the exact same thing," my dad said. I tasted it. And straight up. They had served us a frozen microwave bag of reheated peas and carrots. My eyes didn't want to believe what my taste buds confirmed. Somehow the waitress caught wind of our conversation and figured out that it was my dad's birthday. She approached our table and asked with that tone that waitresses have when they're trying to gauge whether we wanted dessert (we didn't). But somehow, the next thing we knew she was telling us she was bringing a key lime pie. Having not asked for it, and thinking at least this is a free dessert with such shitty food, we all reluctantly gave mumbles and nods of affirmation. When she brought it out, we knew it was store-bought - with some store-bought raspberry sauce, but we didn't really care. "Let's just finish this thing and get out of here," we thought. When I asked for the check, she said don't worry I had the Key Lime pie on there, but took it off. (?!?) We didn't ask for it in the first place?? In fact, no one at our table even told you there was a birthday?? All said in done, our bill was $184. This included 4 drinks, an appetizer, and 2 entrees (there's a $6 splitting fee). Nothing that we wouldn't be more than happy to pay, but for instant grits and frozen peas and carrots, we expected better. Waited about 20 minutes off season on a Monday when many other restaurants are closed. It's not big (50 tops plus a bar) so it's loud. The food was excellent. I had shrimp and scollops and grits while my wife had shrimp and scollops over linguine. The grits had thick cut bacon, spinach and green onions as a garnish. The linguine was a BOGO special for the day. Even though we didn't order BOGO they gave us half off the linguine. Service was good, food came out in a reasonable time, hot and well plated. read more

We did make reservations, which I highly recommend, but once we stepped inside we decided to skip out on the table and sat at the bar! I have been going to Atlantic Beach NC for decades and let me tell you that Island Grille has the best food I have had down there hands down. I got the duo crab cake and also the blackened tuna. Both Entrees were A++. The Crab cakes had no fillers at all and the blackened tuna was perfectly done. This is not a large restaurant but the food is as close to perfect as one can expect while dining near the ocean. I will be back and will enjoy there food again. read more

It was very small, could practically hear every conversation. Also it's not a very diverse crowd so be prepared for stares. It's literally right next to the beach but your can't see the Water. There is condensation dripping from the air vents since it's so hot outside and they are trying to accommodate by making it cold inside so anywhere you sit you are liable to be dripped on. The worst customer service I've ever had. The bartender on 9/12 was very rude and the marketing for the bogo is bait and switch! We went on a Monday night to enjoy the bogo dinner that we saw advertised several places. I was set on the crab cakes based off the bogo ad in the Crystal Coast visitors guide that highlighted them.When we got there and ordered the bartender pointed out that there was a "limited" menu for the bogo which didn't include half the menu. I brought up the fact the ad said nothing about a limited menu to the bartender and then he had the nerve to say "well it doesn't say it includes the whole menu..." in a smart tone! That's when my wife and I left and will never return. I was looking to buy apps, drinks, and desert on top of our entrees but not after we were disrespected! On another note my wife noticed the "limited" bogo menu's seafood pasta is priced more than what's on the normal menu and doesn't even include the crab. Another example of deceptive advertising.
