My in laws come yearly and we joined again and what you're paying for is proximity to the beach. It is extremely convenient to get to the beach from this spot. It's also a private portion of the island, so public access isn't allowed. We came in September so it was super chill. Maintenance was very attentive and anytime we had an issue they came quickly. The small kid pool was dirty, within minutes they were cleaning it. There was an ant pile outside our patio, they took care of it within minutes again. Our toilet flooded and again they were there within minutes. Every time with a smile on their face and happy to help. When my mother in law went to the front to ask for another towel they questioned her heavily, to which my mother in law was offended. Room 115 needs shutters on the window, as the room never got dark because the lights from the outside shined through. The pillows were flat. The pool was nice. Overall, yes, the place is dated. They were slim on amenities; we didn't even had facial tissue which was annoying. The toilet paper was crumbly and the trash cans didn't have lids. Various electric plugs were popping off the wall and some switches didn't work. The tools to make a meal were limited also. Depending on the goals you have for the stay, this could do it. read more

We have been coming to the Island House since the early 80's. We wont be back. Why? The rooms and furniture are outdated. Were not paying $250 per night anymore for rooms that have not been updated in decades. Until these owners update the bathrooms, the beddding, ktichen appliances etc, then avoid. Its sad to say this but the place is so outdated. Mustang Towers a few miles down the road is the place to be. read more

Great location, but outdated, very loud and expensive for what you get. The pool is located in the middle of the complex and it was so crowded and noisy it was worthless and was a big detractor at night, especially if you're in a first floor room. Crowded with unsupervised, screaming children, old fat men smoking cigars and families that looked like they moved all their worldly belongings to the place. Others appeared to take up every gas grill in the patio for their personal use in one giant party of grinning, greasy discourteousness. Our room was relatively clean if you don't count the bugs. In general need of repair with thin walls. You WILL hear your neighbors beside you and above you while they talk in the room. NOT worth the price of more than $300 per night. The iron gate closest to the beach was jammed shut, pool equipment laid about randomly. Overall this tropical paradise is disappointing and in need of a redo, but with the Holiday Inn damaged by hurricane, they have no competitors. If you're staying in Corpus, I'd recommend renting a house instead. read more

We were looking for a Memorial Day Weekend stay-cation. We had been booked for a month when they cancelled our reservation just two weeks before. The reason was that they don't rent to locals. Gosh Corpus Christi, this local business doesn't think very highly of you! I understand policy, but why did it take them a month to see this? Others in our group were cancelled too. Loren at Front Desk was very Rude, I Tried to change my reservation due to cancer treatments in Dallas and she said not. I was told I would get my $600 back since I was well before the 90 day deadline. I was so shocked I could not change my reservation did not know what to say. I asked to talk to a manager and she said no and said she had worked there for 5 years and I did not need to speak with anyone else. I Was very unhappy, its not my fault I have to get radiation in Dallas, She hung up on me and was extremely rude basically told me not to call back. I guess I wont be coming back any time soon really too bad they treat their clients so poorly. I have stayed here many times maybe about 10 or 15. And my Mom and Dad too when they were both still alive. I may still try to book a reservation this fall. but unlikely. She said I canceled too many times and I was wishy washy and there was a note in my file not to grant me any reservations due to cancelation, but I only asked for my one reservation to be pushed out one to two months due to radiation treatments. and it was well beyond the 90 day required window. Lauren is a liar and does not care about residents Don't recommend this place at all. When my Dad was Still alive he loved this place but it was different back then. Its really too bad they are so mean to their guests, its very unfair IMHO. I can't help that I have cancer. Maybe Cynthia or whoever runs the place now can get this situation under control. They have my number. I am so sad now after my experience with Lauren, She is extremely mean I would fire her in a heartbeat. I would not feel safe now going to this place with People Like Lauren around, extremely unpleasant. God knows what would happen when I was there or what she would do to me when I was asleep. I don't understand why she is so mean and unpleasant after all the time me and my family have spent there over the last 17 years. Extremely unfair and impolite. I am sorry Loren that you feel the need to be so unpleasant and unhelpful to people that need to change their plans a little due to unforeseen health conditions, that is most unfortunate and violates several state and federal laws, I plan to take that up with local authorities including CC City council, the Mayor, the COP and the Hotel Board, Governor Abbott and Ken Paxton. and I hope the management takes that into consideration. It is illegal to discriminant against people that are handicapped. I have not made multiple cancelations only wanted to push out my reservation so I could get radiation in Dallas. Maybe you don't have any parents and don't understand what happens to people when they get older. I think that is likely the case. Its really too bad. I have also contacted my legal team so you can expect to hear from them in Nueces County due to your illegal actions, they are very familiar with the laws in the region. You Lauren will be named in a lawsuit as well as Island House In Nueces County. I hope they give me back my $600 they said they would and are not lying. I have that in writing. I have heard from other people and guests that Lauren is extremely mean. Unfortunately unless something changes I would steer well clear of this place, which is really too bad. maybe I will hear back from them and will report back accordingly. UPDATE: Spoke to Maria on the phone this morning and she told me it is best if I don't make any reservation requests at Island House. I have been a part time resident as well as many members of my family for about 17 years. I have always paid my bill on time and in full and have been a great resident quiet and kept to myself, as well as my family. Its so sad that I am being treated this way, This is a great location and its so horrible that they are treating people so poorly I cant imagine I am the only one. I tried to discuss this with Maria but to no avail she said to not make any reservation attempts. I guess the Funny review came from Lauren. Its really too bad that a few people that are employees can ruin the whole experience for Winter Texans. i feel so awful after speaking with Maria I don't know what to say, don't stay at this place there are many other choices in the area. really sad. Its really a very horrible outcome. I wish it did not have to end this way. I can't help it that I have to have chemo and radiation, that is not my fault, I tried to explain that to Lauren and Maria but they refuse to listen, I am not wishy washy as per Lauren, I am just ill. My legal council is looking into this situation, HIPA and other laws prevent this type of discrimination, its not just immoral its illegal. there were roaches in the rooms! ick...also, no umbrellas at the pool. when I asked about the umbrellas being put out, I was told that the guests kept putting them up so "they are being repaired as we speak." 5 days and no shade. be prepared for hidden fees. they now charge 3.5% for credit charge fees I recommend you find another place to stay read more

BEWARE.. I have been going to the island House for nearly 40 yrs. We were excited to go this year after receiving an email about the condo upgrades, pool resurfacing and new pool furniture. Upon check in our excitement quickly changed to disappointment. We were informed that we needed to pay in full upfront and that they would be passing along the 3.5% credit card processing fee. They will also charge you $25 for lost keys now. We had booked 4 rooms. Three of the rooms were for 4 nights and 1 was only 3 nights. We checked out of the 1 room and then received a call that we needed to check out of the other room. We asked for an exception since we were only there 1 more night and we're told "we make no exceptions not even for owners". Basically the front desk staff said if you don't like the rules stay somewhere else. Upon check out we were charged an additional $50 cleaning fee. As if this wasn't bad enough the 4 days we were there the pool was never cleaned. Our unit was not upgraded in any way. In fact the carpet which must be from the 80s felt like an old sponge. The showers were moldy and all 4 of the units had bugs. There was some new pool furniture but most of it was still old. Very disappointing and will not be returning. read more

Came down for family Thanksgiving on the island. The property is old built in 1968 and just finished replacing the sliding glass doors. Physically the building is maintained well. The unit was clean and bedding very good. It's time though the the owners perhaps start looking at bring the units up to 2021 inside the units. Replacing rusty closet tracts, replacing de-silvering mirrors, new counter tops. Those two items will enhance the units appeal. read more

Bed bugs! Also still using covid as an excuse not to clean rooms during your stay and have you go down to the office each time you need towels or toilet paper. I don't know what kind of a clean is done after guests leave but when I arrived there were several areas with different crumbs around the condo. Thrilled to now be living with bed bugs in my home with my 6 month old until an exterminator can make it out here. read more

My family has stayed at Island House for ages but this last trip wasn't the cleanest (which worried us because of this Coronavirus pandemic). We found hair in our shower, used q-tips in the bedroom, a pacifier under the coffee table, and the oven (which had obviously not been cleaned in a while) stunk up the entire condo when we turned it on. The bed that was supposed to be a King was a full and there were multiple people smoking at the pool. Other than that, the rooms were well decorated and furnished as usual and we enjoyed being so close to the beach. read more

It was also spacious with a full kitchen and two full bathrooms. Although not high-end luxury, the condo was clean and modern (diswasher incl). Plus, there is a pool and laundry facilities on site. My in-laws went down to Padre a couple years ago to have a family vacation (now that we've got kids to play with) and they decided to make this an annual event. So me and my husband joined them last year and this year. We stayed at Island House both times and I think this will just be our designated place as long as this family thing runs. I am generally happy with this place except that they have no wifi and you have to bring your own cable and/or router. They charge $7.50 for a cable which we will have no use for (we already have too much at home which we always forgot to bring!). Also for some units, their internet cable is a bit high-maintenance and you may have to reset it to use the internet. I happened to remember where it is so this year I didn't have to call up a tech-guy just to reset the cable. Also their elevators are very stuffy so I tried really hard to avoid them unless I had to haul luggage. The place is right off the beach and they are generous with clean towels. The kitchens are equipped simply so that they are functional. You do enjoy a very good view from your condo. In conclusion, this is a place where you can easily have a fun summer vacation without going bankrupt. read more

This was our first time at Island House, and my husband and I have decided that this is where we will stay during all future trips to Corpus Christi. Staff was warm, friendly, helpful and attentive. The unit was clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are clean and supplied with ample towels. The kitchen was also very clean and fully stocked. As for the rooms: I felt comfortable enough with the bedding that I did NOT use the sheets that I brought from home.....THAT good. The condo itself is positioned perfectly---swimming in the pool earlier in the day is better as the rising sun is on the beach side of the condo. Then a little later relax & rest up on the beach-facing porch/patio which is also very well maintained. And finally, the amazing private beach! read more

Some are a little dated but we always find them to be very clean. I've stayed here several times and have usually stayed in the same unit that has a beautiful ocean front view. These condo's have really good service and the staff will help you with anything right away, whether it's towels, internet,directions, keys, etc. It's steps from the beach and the condos are clean, comfy, and pretty spacious. I really like staying here for a weekend when I can get away with my family. The rates are pretty good especially in fall or winter when the rates are discounted and they have a nice heated pool! Which is a plus on cooler nights ( never really too cold in Texas). My kids love coming out here and keep asking when we can get our own condo (I wish!) There's also a covered deck area with bbq pits by the pool for cook outs. Overall a really fun stay for a great value. read more

First time staying here and loved it! All the staff from the office to laundry and maintenance workers were friendly and accommodating. Our unit was immaculately clean and well stocked. The rooms were nice but the management was horrible. They were rude and very stereotypical. Unorganized, and will threaten you by just walking to the parking lot. I was threatened by a security guy who got in my face so I left that night and wasn't refunded my money, they gave me a hard time for just being there, wouldn't go here ever again. read more

We have been coming here since the 80's and the island still looks the same. The best thing about the island house is location location location and the pool area. Plus the people who work there are very accommodating and over all do a very good job. HEB is only a 10 minute drive and there are plenty of places to eat within a few minutes of the island house. The real issue is that the units need to be updated ie new beds, updated toilets (they still use low flush toilets -waste of water), couches and chairs need to be upgraded. Again we have been coming here since the early 80's and we like it here. But its time to upgrade these units and do more than just put in new windows which are needed. Windows have been needed in this place for years. We were in room 324 last weekend when it rained and we had water in the unit - no lie hence why there are sandbags along the side of the window. Overall we like it here and its location location location. The bbq area is good and the pool is heated and deep. read more

Love the location of this place and we have stayed here before. Very friendly staff but quite honestly will probably not stay here again. We had a two bedroom side view and the vents in every room were very dirty with what looked like mold! As well as the ceilings looked moldy in the living room. On the second night we had problems with our dishwasher which we were told was just recently put in but we had water all over the floor. For as pricey as their rooms are, this is really unacceptable. Their rooms could really use an update as well. Again love the grounds but their rooms need some serious remodeling. Bathrooms are not very clean or appealing. read more
