We hired these guys to help us move in October of 2015. They were recommended by a realtor friend and relatively affordable. The main reason we hired movers was to avoid damaging our nice furniture.I explained what we needed moved over the phone. On the day of the move they showed up over an hour late. What we needed moved was not explained at all to the guys that showed up. Therefore, they started moving items that we didn't need moved, and when everything was eventually straightened out they were pressed for time and did not take proper precautions to protect our furniture. As a result, our nice/expensive furniture was damaged. I called them after we noticed the damage. They asked me to text them photos and said they'd take care of it and "put a smile on my face." Very friendly and reassuring. After that, I heard nothing. I called several times, and it went straight to voicemail. After a couple months I suspected they blocked my phone and sure enough, when I called from another phone it went through. I left a message and never heard back. Shady, shady business. These guys were great! I *think* their names were William and Rudy Jr. They showed up on time, and they worked their butts off for my entire move. They were honest and fair with the amount of hours they billed me too. I was all alone getting this move done, and let's just say this whole moving stuff really isn't any kind of fun when you're doing this by yourself as a woman. I couldn't even leave the house to go grab food, and the two brothers that came out were so kind as to bring me a hamburger. It was a small gesture, but it was very much appreciated since I hadn't eaten all day. They also had one of their wives run to Home Depot to get some rope for me, and they only charged me the exact amount for the rope. I'm sure other folks would've charged me for the price of sending her on her errands. They even showed up a few times to help wrap a couple of fragile items, and they didn't charge me for that. They were careful and cautious in getting our stuff moved. We didn't have one thing that was damaged. The guy who was packing up our box truck had some seriously *mad* Tetris skills. I don't know how they did it, but they managed to get everything we needed to into that truck. I stressed that it was really important to me to fit everything in there since I was just renting the truck for the one trip, and I couldn't afford a second trip. I've had to move twice in the past couple of years-was fortunate to call Island King to check out rates...I'd been given quotes of $500. and $600 from other moving services but got the best quote from Island King. Last weekend, due to the rain and some moves that turned out to take longer for the movers, we changed my move from Saturday to Sunday and Vickie, the organizer of the crew (which is made up of family members) promised me 3 guys for the price of 2. These guys work hard. My total bill for moving a 2 bedroom apartment and garage full of boxes that were in storage was less than $300.00. One of the things I like best about these guys is that they KNOW HOW TO PACK A TRUCK!!! I've had movers who haven't a clue hot to efficiently pack a truck to gain the ultimate space. Island King keeps one guy in the truck and 20r 3 of them hauling boxes out to him..VERY effective! They are efficient, fun to be around and know how to hustle. I have used these guys five times and am about to use them for a sixth (don't ask). They have ALWAYS shown up on the appointed day and time, I think a couple times they were less than a half hour late but if you know what Hawaiian time is....that's not a huge deal to me. I have never been asked to pay up front as some of these reviews are claiming. Additionally they have never broken anything - the last time they moved my 5,000 sq ft house. No problems whatsoever. I even offered the guys a beer when they were done and they refused because they were "on the clock". Willy can be hard to get ahold of because he's busy working and moving people but they're not a big huge company and don't charge big huge company prices. You do have to rent and drive your own truck because of the licensing, but that's again not abnormal for the rates you're looking at with these guys. To get movers that have booking agents and trucks you will pay three or four times as much. You don't get filet mignon for McDonald's prices, nor should you expect it. If you want good movers who take care of your belongings and get the job done fast, you won't be disappointed. If you want all the bells and whistles and the prices that go with it, maybe try someone else. read more

Worst moving experience ever!!! The guys that showered up to move us were all very young and had little experience from what I saw... Because the crew they sent lacked experience our move too double the time and I was made to pay more... If I rejected paying them more my stuff would've just sat in the moving truck so I felt I had no choice... The crew was careless about my items which lead to many items breaking/being scratched/dented/etc... One item they broke I requested they fix because the mover didn't listen when myself and another mover from island kings told him not to move it that way... He then tried to cover it up so I wouldn't see it, but I saw it happen so I called him out on it... The head guys in the company drag their feet, take the money and run... They give promises and take forever (6 weeks) to follow through... They also requested to speak with my husband... I learned they did this because they thought having a man to talk to would help them not have to fix anything... Wrong! My husband was more upset than me! Also, their crew smokes like crazy! It's gross and I don't like them unloading my things, smoking and leaving their butts all over my property and the street... Super gross and disrespectful... I'd be very careful if you decide to hire this company to help you move... It didn't save me any money has we literally almost a 2 month head ache!!! Update 9/6/14 I received a phone call from Willy the main guy in charge of moving (he was at my move for maybe 30 minutes) anyway, he calked after I posted this review and said he'd get me my invoice... And what do you know! I still haven't received it and is one of many reasons I'd steer clear if hiring these guys, unless you want movers that don't follow through with what they promise (unless you prompt them over and over and over again)... They're just proving my point that they're not professional at all! 10/22/14 I received a "compliment" that told me to tell the truth about this company... I the above is the truth... This moving company did not show up the day we scheduled them, after two hours of trying to get ahold of them to figure out if they were coming they responded by saying that the other job was taking too long and they wouldn't be able to make it that day but could come early the next. The next day they were 2 hours late, and then left with damage to the walls that were pretty bad. They didn't mention the damage nor make concession in the price for not being able to make it the first day and being very tardy the next. Not only would I not recommend this moving company I would warn people that they are not professional and leave damage more costly than they are to hire. read more

I had the opposite experience with Island King. We hired them for a simple unload because they said they had insurance. Well the Bozos gouged and scratched my furniture and dented my new dryer. First crew they sent was great. Fast, smart, punctual. The rates were decent. Then after a few weeks they changed cleaners without telling me. The second crew was a total disaster - they put my wooden serving trays and cutting board in the dishwasher and cleaned with windows with something that left them all streakey. When I asked the manager if I could have the first crew back she said that they were booked. I called 3 weeks in advance to make an appointment for these guys to move me into my new house. No confirmation call came so I called them the night before to confirm myself. The guy who answered the phone said his computer system was down but he would make sure someone still came out for me the next day. Cool. My appointment time is 8-10 the next morning. I'm sitting there packed and ready and realize I have some time to kill so I want to run to the store. Nervous the movers will show up and I won't be home, I call to get an ETA. Phone goes to voicemail. Well that's awkward. Call again.. Still voicemail. I decide to hang out at my place just in case. No one is showing up. Did they forget? I call again. Goes right to voicemail. At this point I decide to try to maybe google an alternate contact for them. Nothing different comes up, but I do find some information saying they don't have their own truck and you need to rent your own. What!!!? Seriously!? I was never told this! I have to rent my own effing truck!? Awesome. Try and call them again to ask wtf. Still going to voicemail. I take a deep breath and try to relax, call again a little later. Phone is ringing! Yes, it's on! Oh Jk, just got forwarded to voicemail. 10:15, they show up. Hi! We're here to move you. Sorry we missed all your calls. Where's the moving truck? Oh, you didn't know you were supposed to get your own? No one told you? Ok. Sorry. I kindly tell them I don't need their services anymore and they leave. Now don't get me wrong. I get that stuff happens. I do! I'm understanding. There are a lot of things we can't control. But there are two things that they could have. First, answer your freaking phone during business hours or at LEAST always have it turned on. Hired them for cleaning service in October. Owner- complete dick. Several things he told me on the phone were not completed (spot removal from carpet, single story window washing) and they were several hours late to a scheduled appointment. When I called to ask him to come finish the spot cleaning he avoided my calls and then blocked my number. Trashy business, lazy owner. Would not recommend to an enemy. Worst movers ever! Scheduled 4 movers at 8:00 am. 3 movers showed up at 9:30 am and they were not alert and not prepared. Scratched, dinged and dented numerous pieces of furniture. Lost two remote controls. We had to hire two additional people to help unload. Each box labeled, household boxes were left in the yard, toolbox was dumped over and drawer with nuts, bolts and screws was dumped into another box and left in my kitchen. Standing jewelry box was tipped completely sideways. A complete mess! I wasn't fully aware of the damage, so at the end of the move, we tipped them $50.00 each. I called William first thing the next morning and told him I want my tip returned. The check was cashed within the hour. I have since called him numerous times with no reply. We are suing them for the damage, lost items and tip amount. Save yourself - use any other mover. read more

I called Island King on Aug 27th for an estimate of moving costs. I told William that when we moved two years ago it took three guys over ten hours and two 24' long trucks to move everything. He assured me that they could do it with four guys in under six hours. I told him I'd prefer if someone came out and gave us a solid estimate after seeing what needed to be moved. We made an appointment for William to come to our house at 6pm that night. At 7pm I called when no one showed up and spoke with a female who informed me that William was running late on another job and couldn't make it it. She rescheduled him to come out on the 28th at 6pm. He failed to show again tonight and when I called he told me he was coaching his son's soccer team. I told him not to bother I'd find someone else. Island King Services and William were a no call and no show on two occasions while trying to earn our business, who knows whether they would actually show up the day of the move - I know I'm not willing to risk it. I also had a terrible experience with this company!!! We tried to hire them to unload our stuff into our new place. They just didn't show. Then when we called they said someone scheduled us at a different time. Ok so then they did not show for the time they said they had scheduled us for. Told us they would be there in 30 minutes and never showed then stopped answering the phones. I think this company is a scam since I have heard nothing since and can't even get a phone call. I can't say enough about these guys. Recently used their moving services and coming from someone who has moved over 10+ times both with movers and without movers, these guys are bar none. They are absolutely phenomenal and to top it off, shockingly reasonably priced. In the moving service industry, far too many companies are either outrageously priced or have movers who aren't productive and too lax. These guys were neither. We were moving from a two bedroom apartment into a house and with only two guys, it took them less than 3 hours to both load and unload our belongings. If that weren't impressive enough, the whole time they took only ONE break!! Incredible, absolutely incredible. Non-stop workers are hard to come across these days and I was/am truly appreciative. I don't plan to move again any time soon but if I do, they will DEFINITELY be the first people I call. I plan to use their cleaning services sometime in the near future, and if they are anything like the movers, I'm anticipating to once again be overwhelmingly satisfied. I was super happy with my experience with these guys. When they arrived, they immediately started wrapping my furniture in the pads that they provided. They took great care to make sure that everything was packed in a neat and organized manner into my truck, and we made it through the move without a single bit of damage to my furniture or walls. I used these guys to move from a townshouse to an already fairly full house, which involved a lot of difficult pieces, stairs and a lot of rearrange at the 'In' house to make room for the new stuff. I rented a truck and they pretty much did the rest. On time, nice guys and non-stop workers who brought the equipment they needed and knew how to use it. Reasonably priced too.
