Island Recreational We recently purchased one of your pools from the Deer Park location. This was suppose to be completed on Friday, July 24th. The pool was installed and water filled the next day. I was assured by both representatives on a customer service call and in store that someone should be coming back to finish the installation. We have proof of purchase to show we were in store on the 25th. After days of no response and unanswered support calls we received a call from the installation team stating we never purchased the installation plan with filter. Note this was NEVER mentioned prior to today. I received another call from a store Supervisor in which stated I can either pay the additional fee of $199 or come into the store for them to show me how to put this together as "it is easy"! Not only was this not an easy task their demonstration filter was setup incorrectly to cause further confusion. As a result of all this poor communication and lack of accountability 4 days later my new pool is showing signs of algae. Plus a mess left by your installation crew. I don't believe this is any business standard of excellence. This poor service makes me regret this purchase. I have small children disappointed that they cannot go into a pool that was purchased. Money is not easy to come by as it was worked hard for. Again this is a huge disappointment. read more

The pool liner I purchased with "free installation" cost as additional $500. The two jokers that came to do the installation were more interested in getting extras and moving on to the next customer they could scam. I had them install my filter and I paid for the installation that's the whole point and then these guys were very unprofessional. They didn't even test it after and then now the filter doesn't even turn on it doesn't work and I can never reach them. I called them three times. Hidden Fees and Poor Communication When I bought the pool, I was told installation was included. I was informed I'd need to purchase sand separately, and that the installer would let me know how much to buy. I was also told there would be a $50 per inch charge for any dirt that needed to be removed--which I understood and expected. What I was not told at any point was that there would be an extra $150 charge to install the filter or any of the equipment needed to actually run the pool. After waiting three weeks for the installer to arrive, I was shocked to be hit with this additional fee on the spot. When I called the main office, they suggested the package I bought may have included equipment installation, and told me to go back to the store. When I did, the store staff insisted that it was not included and that I had to pay extra--offering nothing more than a simple "sorry" and saying it's just "two hoses" connected to the pool. If it's that simple, why wasn't it included or at least disclosed clearly upfront? This whole experience felt misleading and unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend buying a pool from here unless you get everything in writing and ask a ton of questions first. read more

We have been IR Customers since COVID, when Gwen helped my daughter purchase her dream pool. We live less than 2 miles from the Deer Park location but always travel to Medford to shop, and visit Gwen who always keeps in contact with my daughter. That store always seemed to better organized and well stocked. Recently I needed an O-Ring for my filter so I just ran to DP Location...was sold the wrong one, went back to exchange it an hour later and was told by "Joe" I was wrong.... it was the "Right one" I have never been treated in such a RUDE, and condescending manner. I will continue to drive 35-40 mins to Medford who gave me correct one and to be treated the way a customer should be to avoid ever having ti deal with such a poor representative of a Company that has made ALL my daughters purchases a pleasure. read more

I've been a long-time customer of Island Recreation, bringing my pool water samples in for years -- but I've finally had enough. Every single time I go there, I get a completely different answer from each employee about what chemicals or adjustments I need. It's like nobody there is on the same page or has any real training. I've tried to stay loyal, but the lack of consistency and customer service has become ridiculous. My breaking point was a recent purchase of a Black & Decker 1500 GPH pool cover pump. The first one I bought didn't work -- it wouldn't pump water at all. When I brought it back to the store, I was told they don't give refunds, only replacements. I didn't want another one, but I had no choice. So I exchanged it for the exact same model, took it home, and guess what? That one doesn't work either. The pump won't even start unless there's more than five inches of standing water on the pool cover. By that point, the cover is sagging and overloaded -- which completely defeats the purpose of owning a pump in the first place. I went back for help, and all I got was attitude and finger-pointing. No accountability, no offer to make things right, just "that's our policy." Their idea of customer service is to tell you to buy something else and hope it works. At this point, I'm done wasting my time and money here. I'll take the loss and go to Home Depot or a reputable pool supply company that actually stands behind what they sell. Island Recreation has gone downhill -- inconsistent advice, unhelpful staff, and no sense of responsibility. If you value your money, your time, and your sanity -- shop somewhere else. read more

I stop by today to purchase shock that was on sale according to the mailer I received . I was approached by a young lady named Angelina s. Ask if I needed help . I showed her the pool shock I wanted from the mailer but there was another kind of shock called Green out I ask about the difference she then persuaded me to purchase the case of 24 count which came to $140 + tax . She never mentioned that it was non refundable . I then finished the purchase went home and saw that I did not need that much so I went back about 1hr later to return the Green out shock and purchase the original bags of shock I originally came in for. When I ask about returning the shock no one said anything about non refundable they just sent me to the customer service counter where i saw the lady Angelina s. Who originally sold me the shock , She then told me it's non refundable even though the box was not unopened . She would not budge at all . This was not a good experience. So I'm not sure why the reviews are of such low opinions for this store, when you have or buy a pool you have to be prepared for maintenance costs and unforeseen fixes, it comes with the territory. What I love about IR is that they opened a water testing center which quickly tests your pool water. It prints out a diagnosis and the employee assisting you walks you through your report and helps you stock up on the exact materials you need to maintain a normal level of water. Once you get your water tested, they give you a little receipt and they will write a code on it if they are any special sales, make sure you tell the young staff at the register to type the codes into the system so the sale prices go through otherwise you will be shocked at the register. read more

Even claimed they didn't come with the pool. They did. Bought the best liner. Now less than 2 years the seam is separating. Impossible to get someone to talk about the warranty. Store says they dont handle it. They give you a way to do it on the cell phone. They say they will get back to you in 7 to 21 days. Doesn't happen. I asked for the corporate number. 3rd time this season. Each time I go to purchse something, the coupon has tiny fine print. Today it was chlorine. 50 lbs for $100. Fine print says the price includes a $30 "splash back" card. In essence they charged $79 for this (probably with tax). Then I get a discout card for next month. Cashiers are not very knowledgable on sales. Island WRECK is terrible! If I can give it 0 stars I would! From buying a heater which only lasted a year and they blamed us for it breaking! then getting a liner which they had to come back 3 times! First time they installed with a big old hole in it, second time they never cut a hole for the skimmer basket, finally third time they got it right, but also proceeded to step in dog poop and wipe it off with paper towels and throw them all in front of my house like animals! Customer service sucks, i've emailed and emailed and no one ever gets back to you!
