Don't let her size fool you, she's very strong and intuitive to the tight areas on your body. It's true that the location may cause you to second guess the address as the building is in an industrial section of town but it's very quiet inside. I was in the vicinity and just outta da blue I looked in the Yellow Pages for Massage Therapists. Saw her listing and called right away. Said she could take me so off I went. I've seen several very good therapists but the owner Maria is my favorite. I usually request a male therapist at a new place because I need someone strong. Maria is tiny but so talented, and capable of a deep tissue massage that works out all my knots. It is not fancy but spotless, and her prices are so reasonable. This is the place to go!! I went there while on vacation because of shoulder pain that I have been having for almost a year. I tried the Chiropractor, Acupuncture and every sports rub that you can find, but nothing works. I had a 1 hour massage with Maria and it was unbelievable. She is small, but extremely strong, and almost brought me to tears a couple of times, but it was worth it. It has been about 5 days now and my shoulder (as well as my back) feels so much better. I had Jan and although she was very nice and sweet, she didn't thoroughly massage my hands and feet which are pretty important in my honest opinion. Maria is a Godsend! Not only did she show up after there was an honest mix up with my appointment (I was originally scheduled with someone else), but she also gave me quite possibly the best massage I've ever had. I spend all day on the computer, so I always have problems with my neck and shoulders. Maria has hands of steel, and I mean that in the best way possible, and she kneaded out every kink and knot, even in places I didn't realize were tense. I searched around for places that offered affordable massages and came across this place. Based on the reviews from yelp i decided to go ahead and make the appt. Scheduling was a breeze, i made the appt through their website and within that afternoon got a response confirming a couples massage. And the morning of our massage we got another confirmation text to make sure we were still on sched. This place is located in a cute, fairly average size space above a church. Nice and clean. As we arrived and filled out the paperwork, our therapist then reviewed the info and asked about our problem areas and if there was any area we wanted them to focus on. My massage therapist was Darilyn and she was great. She definitely focused on my tension spots and did some manual stretches as well. Although it was painful i figured it would help in the long run. She did adjust her pressure when i asked her though. I would definitely go back for another session. My Fiance had Kyoko which he seemed pretty satisfied with but felt pressure wasn't as consistent as he would have liked it and she didnt work as much on his upper back as he requested at the start of his massage. But he did say she did a good job on his legs and with the stretches. Overall the massages went great and we wouldn't mind going back for a monthly tune up. read more

I have long-standing problems with trigger points in my upper back and shoulders, especially the teres, subscapular, posterior deltoid, infraspinatus, trapezoids, scalenes, and other associated muscles. As a competitive power lifter, these muscle spasms weaken important muscles, and keep me from utilizing my full strength. The only effective treatment I have found is deep-tissue trigger point massage therapy. I have had treatments by therapists from China to California to Boston, and the best, most effective treatment I have ever had has been Maria at Island Therapy. She did an amazing job breaking up the knots and leaving the muscles pliant and relaxed. If I could, I would go to her two or three times a week, as part of my regular workout program. The facilities aren't impressive from the outside--it's in a commercial area like you would find anywhere. But it is a safe area, and inside the studio it is clean and comfortable. Maria is completely professional--she is friendly, but she knows when to talk, when to ask questions, and when to let silence reign, in just the right balance. read more

OK, if you are looking for a massage in Honolulu (while you're on vacation or as a local)....THIS...IS...THE...PLACE! The prices are good and the massage is even better. This was the first thing we did on our 8 day trip. We wanted to start things out right by getting relaxed for the remaining 7 days and man did we make the right decision. I've had quite a few massages but this was by far the best one I've ever gotten. I even feel asleep at the end (sorry for the snoring Brenna and I hope I spelled your name right - at any rate you know who you are). My wife was massaged by Maria and loved it! This was exactly what we needed. Things to know - parking out front is limited but there are usually two spots open even though they say 'no parking.' The no parking is only meant for those not going to get a massage. You'll need to pay online beforehand or bring cash. There are car sounds, street sounds etc. but the team at Island Therapy does a great job and relaxing you to the point of not caring. Keep up the great work Maria and Brenna. I was injured on the job, and had chronic pain from neck to low back for a long period of time. My insurance was very generous, and let me get massage therapy treatments. Since I used massage chair to ease my pain from the beginning when I was first injured, I am looking for the type of massage that has strong pressure. I checked yelp and decided to try Island Therapy. I am very happy that Maria, the owner of the place responded my inquiry quickly, and worked on my body directly. She is very experienced to identify the muscles that cause pain, and work on those areas directly. Even some muscles that I did not realize the injury, she helped to find them and did treatment. Her pressure is just right to the level I want, and can be stronger if i ask. Overall, I am very happy with the progress I made through this therapy.
