This place came highly recommended, and after all the hype, it unfortunately didn't live up to the sky-high expectations. That said, I still had a good experience overall--my wallet and cholesterol just might disagree. We showed up as a large group of 13 people with five separate checks, and our server handled it like an absolute pro. Everything was correct, and their patience at the end of a long day deserves major props. Parking was a pleasant surprise--a spacious private lot conveniently located right by the soccer fields. As for the food, we opted for the fried shrimp because everyone had talked it up. The portion looked big, but most of that was the thick breading. The shrimp inside was tiny and unfortunately lacked flavor. It wasn't bad, just bland and overshadowed by the heavy coating. The restaurant itself is huge and perfect for large parties. I definitely recommend calling ahead. They offer TVs, a salad bar, and a full range of drinks--from cocktails to beer. It's very family-friendly. 2 stars because I had a great waiter to was attentive and friendly...but the food...yikes. I'm not that picky, if I don't like something that much I usually just eat it all because I don't like to waste money or food. But here, it was so bad that I took 2 bites of the fish, then ended up putting it in a to go container and throwing it away when I got home. The grilled shrimp I got was just OK (Red Lobster quality) and the salad bar was pretty decent. The gumbo was disappointing. Should be called Okra soup. Unfortunately will not be back. read more

I ordered carryout at lunch from Doc's Seafood in Foley. We wanted Gumbo. So, I got 1 quart of Gumbo, Rice "on the side" AND a dozen Fried Shrimp. We've eaten at the Original Doc's numerous times over 25 years. You'd think the place that openly advertises "The Best Fried Shimp AND Gumbo in the civilized WORLD", could at least compete! First time trying out this place. I ordered half dozen of best fried shrimp, dynamite shrimp, and half dozen of large boiled shrimp. The best fried shrimp comes with one trip salad and French fries. The one trip salad means you can only take one time to their salad bar. All the food just standard ok in my opinion. Nothing special or really delicious. In the salad bar, they have fresh veggies, all the salad toppings, salad dressing and potato salad, chicken salad, tuna salad. FYI, the boiled shrimp is cold like it's come out from the fridge. The service is fast but the waiters seem rushing us to order. I mean this is our first time and we need time to take a look the menu which I did explain it to her as well. The place is clean and big. Do not order the country fried steak, my husband ordered it. It was slimy and gummy tasting . The lunch special popcorn shrimp was decent. My 4 yr old got the special cup and we were charged $16 and then $2.99 for the sprite/pink lemonade . I had to go back in and the manager corrected it being as it was a $14 cup with drink included. It truly felt like a rip off for $56. We got the special cup the $8 kids meal and the $11.99 Lunch special. Wanted to try docs before moving to outta state. As an appetizer, we had the onion rings which absolutely had no flavor whatsoever. I had the grits and shrimp, but the grits were cold. The bread that came with it was OK. Certainly nothing that I will order again. Our waitress was quite busy, but made sure that our drinks are filled. Doc's was recommended to us and somewhere we knew we wanted to try on our vacation. There were mixed reviews, but we decided to try instead of going to our original choice due to Docs having an early bird menu and grilled cheese. We knew early bird ended at 5:00 so we arrived around 4:00. Our entire party of 10 was not there to be seated so while we waited, we purchased items from the gift shop. We were quickly seated once everyone arrived but noticed we were not given the early bird menus. I went up and asked and got a look of the hostess not being very happy. She said they do not put out the early bird menus unless it is after September and you have to ask for it. She gave walked it back to our table and told the waitress we did our research. When we ordered our food there was no problem letting 2 kids and 1 adult order the kids cup off the kid's menu. One of the kids ordered a kid's meal and wanted a salad bar. They said it would be $4.99 and never mentioned it was one trip, so he did not get a lot thinking he could go back. He only wanted a little fruit and some salad and was told no. That is when she informed us it was only one trip for him. We had an adult with us who does not eat seafood or burgers and wanted the grilled cheese. She was not allowed to order off the kids' menu, or they did not offer an adult option for this (we were willing to pay an adult price), but they did not have a problem selling an adult a kid's drink. The food came and that was another disappointment. We ordered a loaded baked potato, and it came out plain. One person ordered grilled meal, and it came out fried. Another ordered a shrimp meal, and it came out the sampler meal. We were told it was entered correctly and she didn't know how it happened. There was not much food on the plates either and the taste did not live up to the hype. The fried shrimp was tiny so all you tasted was the breading. The fish tasted like it was frozen with garlic and butter on it. Then the checks came and we were charged for meals we didn't have. It was one of the meals that we were told was put in correctly. This was our last meal on vacation. It was the most expensive, least amount of food, and worst meal we had the entire trip. This was my first visit to this newest location of Doc's Seafood. Prior to this visit I've only eaten at the Doc's Seafood on Canal Road in Orange Beach. I have to say the experience at this Foley location was a massive upgrade from all my prior experiences at Doc's. I had their prime rib special for my initial visit and it was among the best prime rib experiences I've ever had. The service was attentive and the ambiance of the new building is really nice. They also have a nice looking salad bar here. Overall I was really happy with my overall experience and plan on adding this spot to my worthy of a return visit list. read more

We have been to the Orange Beach location several times and always enjoyed it. This is a new location so we gave them a try. Not much of a crowd at 8:00 pm on a Monday, but the service was good and the food as well. Everything is clean and new. My wife had the fried shrimp and had the spider sandwich. The shrimp were delicious as expected. My soft shell crab was small, but it was crispy and tasty. And as usual, we got too many French fries. The Mud Slide was chocolatey and refreshing. Our server, Samantha, was helpful and efficient. She took our orders and the food came out fast. We will probably stick with the location in Orange Beach, but this place is pretty good. read more

Salad bar was the best part close to the server they were great. Salad bar had 3 kinds of lettuce fresh and crisp, lots of toppings, and multiple kinds of premade salads, broccoli, fruit, and pastas. The main dishes were ok, the shrimp was ok, the crab cakes, ok, the white fish, ok, sides ok, the gumbo was ok. The hush puppies were good. The table side cocktail sauce was fun. I would come back for the salad bar and to try prime rib on a Tuesday because this was not my spot for seafood. We have come in almost every Sunday after church with a larger group 7-12 people including kids, since you opened, we have had the same server every week. She is absolutely the best, my daughter loves her eye make it's all she talks about after our visit. Service is always top notch and she is always so bubbly and friendly. Love the salad bar comes with the dinner entrees now!! The only con is food is never "hot" warm at best most of the time. Today the food was very greasy and breading on the fried food was thicker and had no flavor, the server had our order remade very quickly, which we were all very happy the second time around. Got to eat at Doc's Seafood in Foley this week and their so-called "Best fried shrimp in the entire civilized world" must be in the entire yankee world. I have worked in just about every yankee state and the fried shrimp at Doc's resembles yankee fried shrimp. There is a ton of batter on a what I call a small shrimp. The count is somewhere between 30-40. I am thinking 36-40 shrimp which is a small shrimp but "batter up" and they become one large wad of something. On the plus side, their portions are generous which they state in the ads. My wife's okra was fried right and out mac and cheese was ok. Our server was Faith and she did a wonderful job. I gave them a score of about a 7 due to their yankee shrimp. We also had a salad and their salad bar was real good. I enjoyed my salad. Other entries might be good but stay away from their fried shrimp. Faith held our order to the kitchen until we had finished our salad. She timed it just right. read more

My parents, husband, and I all went here for supper last night. The building & staff were outstanding! I did not have to open a single door, the salad bar was constantly being topped off, and they kept the restaurant spotless! We all had cocktails, I even got TWO Slurricanes, yum! Favorites: The grilled seafood platter. I begged them to let me buy their seasoning. I am not a fan of fish, but I gladly ate half of it! A bit of knowledge, the boiled shrimp is supposed to be served COLD. The crab cakes were delish! As far as the Super Seafood platter, it is your typical fried seafood plate. The best part: The stuffed crab, so so good! Dislikes: The gumbo, 2/10 ): Unseasoned and unimpressive, maybe we went on an off night, as they sell their gumbo by the gallon. The only other dislike of the night was the soft shell crab. You couldn't even tell it was crab. However, their salad bar was amazing, every topping you could ask for and some yummy side dishes. Chicken salad, pasta salad, potato salad, and seafood salad. As well as your other odds and ends you find at a salad bar. Definitely worth a try, some really interesting items on the menu. I wish there were some smaller options that were a little more price friendly. Overall, I would come back after a payday, but not every week if that makes sense. The staff gets an 11/10 though! I had been to the Orange Beach location and loved it. This location was a let down. Yes, the crab cakes are still the best I've ever had, but when I ordered popcorn shrimp, at first they brought me a plate with six shrimp on it. SIX!!! I guess it was the fried shrimp platter? When they corrected it it was better. The hubs got the soup and salad. What a let down!! It was a small bowl for the salad bar (ONE trip ONLY) and a CUP...NOT a bowl, of gumbo. The prices are high with limited selections. Disappointing! We ordered unlimited salad bar with a sandwich only to be told we could only get a one trip with that selection of meal. Pros: The staff is wonderful. The hostess (Shelby I think?) was very friendly and bubbly. We had 2 different food servers (one of them may have gone on break?) and they both were very efficient and personable. I loved the salad bar. The seafood salad and chicken salad were very good. The crab cakes were also delicious. The add on of $4.99 is a great value for a one time trip to the salad bar. Cons: Some of the portions seem small for the price. Also, the restaurant is kind of noisy and feels like a mall food court. There is nothing to divide the space. I am hoping that since they are new, they will add a lot more decor to absorb some of the sound. But currently, it is not very cozy. As others, have been to the Orange Beach location but the vibes are definitely different. The Foley restaurant feels more like Texas Roadhouse. Plenty of parking. Workers were all friendly. Didn't have to wait long for food but we went at 4:30 pm in January. I had looked it up to check out the menu and the prices looked high didn't figure worth the drive from Orange Beach. Then saw a few days later they have a Prime Rib special on Tuesdays from 4 pm-close and we happened to be in Foley so we stopped in. Also was curious to see their salad bar. For $23.99 you get prime rib, a choice of side, a roll and 1 trip salad bar. My husband and I split the prime rib. It was good and cooked perfectly (medium), husband said the baked potato he got for the side was just okay. I ordered an extra side of green beans for myself and they didn't look very appealing but had really good flavor and would get again. I was impressed with the salad bar. My husband loves beets so I got a few of those for him, the chicken salad was very good, as well as the pasta salad, shrimp pasta salad and broccoli salad. I would rather have all those than lettuce salad. Was so worth the price for all the food we got but again the 1 trip salad was included with the meal. Otherwise, if you are wanting the salad bar only, go with the All You Can Eat option for $2 more than the one trip. Would go again if they have a special deal going on. read more

Wow was not expecting much since it was only their second day being open, but these people got it going on. Everybody was super nice the food and prices were exceptional. I had the fried shrimp and yes, they are the best in the whole civilized world as were the onion rings. Salad bar had a good selection of items the chicken salad was really good.
