If I don't feel like In n Out and want to sit down with the wife for a drink, or two, we come to Islands. During happy hour, the drinks tend to be a bit watered down, but the alcohol is still there. Any other time? The drinks are pretty tasty. The food is decent for what it is. The burgers are always a little more filling than I expect, but I can't complain.The fries are delicious and I suggest the cheese fries. The food is ok; it wasn't hot when it was brought out today, it took a while. But the reason for the low review is their bathrooms-deplorable. Out of toilet paper, stink like rotten who knows what, and they probably hadn't been cleaned or checked. When I let the hostess know the bathrooms needed cleaning she said "I know." Sigh... Went here for valentines dinner with the family. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup based on yelp reviews and it was really good! Husband liked the Hawaiian. The fish tacos were tasty too. It would have been a lot better if they put more tortilla chips on the side. Kids enjoyed their chicken tenders and fries. We just felt rushed because our server kept on coming by our table and getting our plates, but overall it was a great experience! read more

Our group of friends have a weekly Night Out and a majority of the time we meet at Islands. There are several reasons why we select Islands. Some of those are 1) great happy hour food 2) reasonable pricing 3) casual atmosphere and last but not least by far is the service. Joe is the person that usually assists us and that means impeccable service. A group of people usually means requests for service at our table repeatedly. Joe brings us multiple rounds of food and drinks, that are always hot, tasty and delivered with a smile. I ate here yesterday- a teriyaki burger. Asked for it medium, it was good and tasty as usual. The problem came about 3 or 4 hours later. Stomach started hurting, laid down to see if it helped. It got progressively worse until I had to get up. I took an altoid in the bathroom to see if it helped. As soon as that and water hit my stomach it just came straight back up. Full on projectile, my stomach didn't not want anything else in there. The next half hour I hung out with my new buddy the toilet. The thing that pissed me off the most is that when I called to let them know they treated me like I was bullshitting. I spoke with somebody, let them know I was brutally sick. He said I must have gotten sick from something else or have the flu. The only other thing I had eaten was poptarts and I was feeling perfectly fine before. They proceeded to say they were going to get the manager. I put it on speaker and waited for 15 min before I hung up. Complete BS to be treated like that. I'll never eat there again, that's for sure. I'd recommend no eating there since they do seem to concerned about the welfare of their customers. I didn't call for any other reason then to notify them, in case there were other cases. My gfs has medical background so nagged me into calling. Wish I hadn't since then I was just mad as well as felt like shit. read more

Even though the place was full, we were in and out in about an hour. A friend and I stopped by at 12:30, during the busy lunch rush. They offer lunch specials and a unique daily burger. I ordered the pork tacos and she had standard cheeseburger with fries. The tacos were a bit greasy, but still yummy. The burger was cooked to perfection and tasty. My wife and I like Islands food. Corporate has done a good job of differentiating themselves from Applebees and Chillis, because they're ultimately the same thing. Despite the generic nature of food prep/short order grinds, the atmosphere is fun and the fun offerings interesting enough to hold your attention. The prices for what you get are higher than they should be, and the real reason for the two star review; the service here is almost always atrocious. Whether it's servers, bartenders or management, we've rarely had a good experience. Not long ago we were having drinks at the bar and ordered dinner. It took forever so we asked to have our meal to go because we were going to be late for our movie. We were given someone else's order, and when I brought this to managements attention it turned into an 8 week ordeal to get anyone to actually answer me, and still they acted like I was trying to get something for nothing when all I wanted was the order replaced. As a business owner, I'm acutely aware that you don't treat your customers like that, ESPECIALLY regulars. Tisk tisk, Islands. You've lost two long time customers. read more

I actually gave Islands 3 stars because of their fries and previous visits. This time however I'd give it 1 star maybe. I ordered a basket of fries and a soda right after sitting. It took about 10 minutes to bring the fries, still no soda. When it came time to order I still had no soda and no waitress had come by to ask again. I ordered a Mahi Mahi sandwich or burger (not on the menu) I also asked for my soda again, and finally after another 10 minutes or so I found one of the bus boys and asked him and he brought it out. The place was not crowded at all, so it wasn't like they were so busy or anything. I got my Mahi Mahi burger and it was terrible. The fish was way over cooked and dry as well as flavorless. I only ate about 1/4 of it, was just not good at all. A friend of mine ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos and she said the same thing, dry and flavorless. The waitress never refilled my "bottomless" soda. Also never brought our table more "endless" fries. All in all just a bad experience. No service. read more

Islands is a beautiful and family oriented restaurant. Comfortable and casual with great food, specifically burgers and fries. My favorite item on the menu is the tortilla soup but I've never ordered something sub par. The staff is friendly, accommodating, and enthusiastic. If you like surfing and beach vibes in restaurants you will love Islands, the atmosphere in this sit down is worth the trip alone. read more

The food here has always been decent but overpriced. The main reason my family eats there is because they have food I can eat and they are good about paying attention to allergy issues. However this last time I went I brought eight friends with me after a movie. The sole reason we chose this restaurant was because they could accommodate my complicated food issues. After we all ordered, the waiter and then supervisor came and told me that they had changed the bread they were using and it now had dairy in it. Truly there was nothing else on the menu I could eat. So I watched everyone else eat and came home at 8:30 that night and made myself some dinner. So frustrating and felt starved. The staff was great... The service is hit or miss here, sometimes it is on point, other times it is lacking. I guess it really depends on the day and/or time. My last visit was around 8 pm on a Thursday and the service was a little slow. The main reason I come to Islands is for the endless bowl of chicken tortilla soup. It is seriously the best soup ever and you can keep getting refills. I usually have about 3 bowls each time! It is always hot and just the perfect amount of flavor. I ask for extra cheese on the side. Another item I always order is cheddar fries. They've loaded up with cheese and seasoned perfectly and taste great with ranch dressing. They're perfect for sharing with your table. I have had one of the chicken burgers a few times but lately i go for the soup. I don't generally post bad reviews but this place inspired me to make one. We got there about 8:45pm and there were about 5 tables total occupied. I ordered the Bird of Paradise which comes with a grilled chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, your choice of cheese, and fries on the side. Lets start with the chicken breast..NOT moist and very hard to chew because it came out in shreds. The tomato was the end of the tomato with the stem in it. I also ordered the guacamole which was almost brown in color but almost hard to tell because it was dark in there. Finally the fries...probably the worst fries I've ever eaten. They were over fried and below temperature. It looked like they were left over from another meal and then refried for our order. Brought the whole family in one night for an early dinner and hate to say it but was very unhappy. It wasn't super busy, but we waited about 20min to be seated which I was ok with, but took another 15 min just to get our drinks after waiting 10min just to have our server acknowledge we were there! All that wait and my beer wasn't super cold:( once we got our food it was decent. The burger was a bit dry and the fries were crunchy and quantity lacking. Overall it turned out to be a hassle. Took my family here for dinner. Food is average. I normally would give 3 stars for restaurant of this type but our waiter Stephen made our experience that much more pleasant. He was attentive, detail oriented, and very cordial. I normally don't have anything foodwise that I would come back to Island for but Stephen recommended Island Nacho the works. I had an interesting experience at this Island's location last week. We came here after watching a movie at the Foothill Ranch Regal theater. It was a Friday night, so there were quite a bit of people there. We had about a 20 minute wait before we were seated. I've eaten at this location in the past, but the experience I had this time around was sub par. You know the service is slow when the table next to you has finished their dinner and dessert before your food comes out... and we ordered first! I ordered soup and salad, because I had munchies at the movie theater earlier. I couldn't tell which was colder.... my salad or my tortilla soup... very disappointing. Ok all I can say is wow! Islands closes at 930. We arrived at 915 after a very fun day at Knott's Berry Farm. Our waitress was on top of it. We all had excellent food, awesome service and our belly's were full. They seemed excitied to see us and not a hassle since we arrived so late. Thank you so much Island's for making our evening great and it was my daughters 19th Birthday dinner. It couldn't have gone any better. My daughter leaves for the Army in January and I want her to have the best experiences these next few months again. Thank you. When I can remember the waitresses name I will edit. Thank you again. From the look of the building to the food and service inside; Islands is top notch. Have been visiting this chain since they first opened. When we make a trip back to California, this is always on our list of stops. We went here during a rainy day in December. Seated quickly and had our order taken by a very friendly waitress. The decor inside if very beach/tropical themed. Thatch roofs over the corner booths, Tikis, surfboards, and TVs playing surf and snowboard clips. The menu has something for everyone and an tropical theme to many of the dishes. The burgers are GREAT. The fries are so good. It is easy to eat a full basket of fries all on your own. Prices are reasonable and all around it is a great place to try for dinner or lunch. read more

So, I come to this islands fairly often. Over the weekend, sometimes lunch at the office, and have been coming for a long time. A couple weeks ago my boyfriend and I and a friend came here for lunch on a Sunday. I ordered my usual CA flyer with no cheese and no mayo. I order this exact thing every single time. I get my sandwich and notice it's covered in mayo. 5 minutes or so go by and our server comes and asks how everything is. I tell her there's mayo on my sandwich and she walks away and says oh no. 30 seconds later she comes back with my sandwich in hand and says "there's no mayo on this sandwich." I open the bun and say then what's all of this - she replies "OH! That's spicy mayo!" I'm literally baffled because she just told me there was no mayo on my sandwich and I asked for no mayo but in her world mayo and spicy mayo must not mean the same thing. She tells me she Can swap the bun out really fast it will only take a few seconds and I said forget it and didn't even bother with the sandwich. Farewell islands! Never again! read more

This place looks and feels just as any other islands. The problem with this location is service. The customer service is horrible and it seems to start at the top with the management. I come here for lunch as the food is great, but am always taken back how rude and unhappy all the staff seem to be. It's almost like they're irritated you came in. On a previous outing to Islands a month or two ago, my honey ordered up the tortilla soup which just looked so good that I knew I would have to come back one day and try it for myself. That day finally arrived. When we showed up we had a short wait, they were cleaning up some of their tables still so we couldn't be seated right away. We took a seat and it wasn't long before we were lead to an empty booth. We ordered our drinks, a Cherry Coke for me and ice tea for her, as well as the chips and salsa appetizer with guacamole. The chips and salsa were good but I'd have to call the guacamole rather average, there wasn't anything to get excited about with the guacamole. I would easily have them again minus the guacamole which carries an additional charge. Or I might be tempted to try one of their other appetizers. Not too long after we get our chips, we place our orders. I had to try the delicious looking tortilla soup so I opted for the endless bowl while my honey went with the Wiqui Waqui salad and a bowl of tortilla soup to start. My honey's bowl of soup arrived first and seeing her dig in made me impatient for my own bowl. I munched on some more chips while I waited and next thing I know our server arrives with this big bowl of tortilla soup and a big heaping salad. We look at our food with an appreciative eye before diving in. The tortilla soup is as good as it looks. I love the tortilla chip strips and the flecks of cheese. The soup has a very good taste and I'm soon finishing it off. This being the endless bowl, I feel the challenge of only having one bowl without being able to take on a second bowl of this marvelous soup. I eat as much as I can but before I get to see the bottom of the bowl, the server comes along and takes it away and quickly returns with a fresh though smaller bowl. The second bowl of soup does me in and I can only finish about half before I have to call it quits. We sit together for a minute or two and agree that a little dessert is in order. We order up the ice cream sundae that comes complete with whipped topping, crushed nuts, and a cherry on top. Its meant for one person, but we share it and with a little bit of help from me, my honey finishes it off. I was very pleased with the service, I had just barely finished my first Cherry Coke when a second one was brought to me. I love that! Overall Islands makes for a wonderful dining experience, one I will be glad to enjoy again some day.
