Building is old and it kinda smells like you're walking into grandma's house when you first enter but that just means it has history and earned its spot. Maybe a renovation could help with that issue. I came in as part of a birthday dinner. We had 17 people at the table(s) so it was a huge party for the restaurant to handle. According to my receipt, our server was Hugo and he handled everything beautifully, always remembering requests and even gave us separate checks.. What a pro! The four stars is in large part due to Hugo's hard work. Good job, dude. Mexican food is never my first go-to choice but it's not my birthday so you just show up where you're told to go. I ordered the classic chile relleno combo and it was a pretty good rendition. The only hiccup was I ordered black beans but was given refried. I have been going to Don Jose's, now Rodrigo's for over 30 plus years . I have never had a bad experience until today. The server was new, so he's not to blame. But I ordered a carne asada burrito to go. It normally comes with chips and salsa, guac and pico de gallo. I did not get chips and salsa. Have driven by this place lots of times but never stopped in. Today I gave it a shot for lunch. Ordered the $13.99 Chile Verde Burrito special and it was ok. Pretty small in terms of size and pork inside. They should have also used Green Chili Verde sauce on top and not their standard red sauce that conflicts with the flavor of the chile verde. Chips were salty and salsa was average. Server did not ask me if I wanted more water either. There are other places in the area that will give you more for your buck when ordering this burrito like El Cortez in Laguna Niguel. read more

We were here on a Saturday night. I had the Combo with Chili Colorado and a pork tamale with rice and refried beans. It was the first time I had Chili Colorado. Tender beef in a mild flavorful sauce. The pork tamale was great. The beans and rice were very good. Other items our group had were the Burrito Supreme and a Combo (chicken enchilada, beef taco, rice and black beans). By all reports, these dinners were very good. We had great service. We had a cheerful greeting and were seated immediately. Jacqueline was a great server. She was fast and efficient. Our food came out very quickly and everything was hot. Out of the many times that I have been here, the food and service today was the best. If I could give this place a zero and a health warning, I would. We walked in and were immediately hit with the unmistakable scent of "wet carpet meets regret." That should've been our cue to turn around -- but alas, curiosity (and happy hour) got the better of us. We sat at the bar and ordered Margaritas. One sip later, my taste buds filed for early retirement. It was like someone mixed lime cleaner and sadness over ice. When we decided to cut our losses and leave, we found the bartender by the front door scrolling through social media -- probably looking for another job, and honestly, I couldn't blame them. Do yourself a favor: don't walk, run from this place. It's the restaurant equivalent of a washed-up celebrity -- you can tell it used to have potential, but now it's just clinging to life with bad lighting, bad smells, and worse drinks. I genuinely hate leaving bad reviews because the restaurant business is brutal -- but this place is one foodborne illness away from becoming a cautionary tale on the evening news. read more

ZERO stars. I have been coming here for over 30 years, but I will NEVER step foot inside this establishment again. Five friends and I visited this last Tuesday which happened to be Cinco de Mayo. Rodrigo's sent an email advertising their restaurant as the place to be on this Taco Tuesday. One of our friends made reservations knowing that they would most likely be very busy. Okay, so they know it's going to be busy, right? That means a full staff, but what happened? We had to go to the bar to get drinks because no waiter even glanced at us. Finally, after 15 minutes we received our chips and salsa. We requested the spicy salsa which was brought to us approximately 25 minutes later (after the chips were already eaten). Still, no server came to take our food order. Again, up to the bar to get more drinks. After 50 minutes of waiting, we finally had a server take our order. This, after speaking with the management at least twice asking for someone to give us some attention. The manager brought us an appetizer platter on the house for the inconvenience, but why couldn't they just bring us the tacos we ordered 20 minutes earlier? Another 20 minutes until some of our food was served. Incorrect orders. Some received their tacos, but not their other orders. Cold enchilada (when it finally came out), and dry shredded beef tacos with burnt shells. One guest didn't get any food at all, and fed up, he asked to have his order canceled. He got up and complained to the manager. Another, manager, maybe an assistant, called him an asshole. What!!?? I couldn't believe it. Where in the world does a server call their patron an asshole. But, that sums up the whole experience and the chaotic atmosphere of our dining experience. That employee needs to be fired pronto! We arrived promptly at our reservation time, but didn't get to leave until 1.5 hours later. Partially due to again having to wait for the bill which was also incorrect! Totally unacceptable! This complaint is also going the corporate owner so hopefully they will make positive changes in their management team. read more

I've dined at a few different Rodrigo's locations across California and have always had a positive experience--unfortunately, this particular location has been the complete opposite. I've eaten here twice, and this most recent visit was very disappointing, both in terms of service and food. I was part of a family dinner for my aunt's birthday with a group of nine. Several of us arrived early, but it took over 20 minutes just to get water or have our drink orders taken. Our server (a woman with bright red hair--I didn't catch her name) seemed disengaged from the start. Instead of serving guests directly, she handed drinks and plates down the table--even though there was room for her to walk around. This continued throughout the meal, and she often seemed more focused on her own convenience than on providing a good dining experience. Several drink orders were missed, and after dessert was served, she stopped clearing plates--even while some of us were enjoying the dessert, leaving us to eat over dirty dishes. As someone who worked as a server for six years, I understand the pressures of the job and am always patient--but this felt more like a lack of care than a busy shift. Her section included only two other small tables, so it was disappointing to see how little effort was put into service. On the food side, my husband and I both ordered the steak fajitas. They weren't sizzling when brought out, and the meat was extremely tough--almost as if it had been sitting out before being served. To top it all off, despite the clear signs we were celebrating a birthday (cards and gifts on the table), the server didn't acknowledge it at all. Overall, this was a very underwhelming experience. I won't be returning to this location and hope the management takes time to train the staff more thoroughly--or at the very least, ensure they're interested in providing guests with a better dining experience. read more

The tortilla shell was stale and the carnitas was not shredded (large chunks ) and was full of fat and gristle. Unable to eat the meat. My friends had hamburger tacos and they were good. After working a 14 hr day in Pasadena, I came home to a "carne asada" burrito my wife picked up for me. I was famished and stile could not finish it. The meat was more like day old, dried up or over cooked, but definitely day old machaca - which would be fine, if it weren't for the dry, stringy, hiccup inducing substance that was trying to impersonate carne asada.. Went for lunch with the dogs and the boyfriend. We ordered a couple of old fashions that were spicy and absolutely amazing and very strong. We both ordered off the lunch menu. He got a taco and enchilada, I got a tostada salad. It was OK not the most amazing thing I've ever had. I had it with chili Colorado, which is my absolute favorite, but it was not tender, and the chunks were too big, but it was still OK. A little pricey, but that's just how everything is these days. Saw a rat after eating their food. Carne asada taste like liver, shrimp taste fishy and crackers were stale. Manager never came out and some waitress tried to charge us 50% of the bill after seen Ratatouille running around. Employees blamed it on the back door been open. So close the door then. read more

I'm happy to visit the Laguna Hills location. For many years, we dined at the Westminster location, which offered a great lunch deal, and their house margaritas are amazing. However, I've noticed that each time I visit the Laguna Hills location for lunch on a Tuesday, I'm charged a different amount for the same margarita. What's going on there? I must say, in terms of quality, Westminster has the edge. Their chicken fajitas are generously filled with chicken, while yours seem to have mostly onions and peppers with just a little chicken. Additionally, they always provided my husband with extra hot salsa since we were regulars on Tuesdays for lunch. Despite this, Laguna Hills still offers great value for the money and delicious food! read more

Had a Father's Day dinner with a large family group. Ages spanned 9 months to 72 years. The restaurant was very busy as you might imagine yet everyone's dinner arrived hot and as ordered. Our server had too many tables to provide A+ service so the lag between entree and dessert was too long but I'm not blaming him. I think he did try hard. Really good old school Mexican food. My friend and I were feeling cheap margaritas and it so happened to be the 51st anniversary of the company. They had $6 house margaritas and $3 taco cart. They had two younger servers on the cart .The woman who served us was very sweet and attentive during the entire dinner service. There were mariachi bands playing which elevated the ambiance. Let's start with the tortillas/chips......they use a poor quality tortilla, and in Southern California there are SO many choices and places to get good quality tortillas. The chips were warm and crisp, BUT again, they use a poor quality tortilla so they aren't a good quality chip. The salsa.......personally i don't like a chunky salsa, but i know that's a me thing......HOWEVER the salsa bowl they brought out was basically five HUGE chunks of tomato, with a little liquid and other salsa ingredients in it. That's not salsa. That's chunks of tomato. The service was on the slow side. I would totally understand that if it was busy, but it wasn't. The soup I ordered never came out (they made up for that). The food was delicious, but again, with the poor quality tortilla it brought the taste of the taco (shredded beef) down. They need to get a decent tortilla (the ones they use, think mass produced grocery store quality). And the rice, I'm almost 100% positive it's instant rice. Nothing wrong with instant rice, but not what you expect to get when dining out. (the beans were really really good). Would I go again? Only if I was with people who wanted to go. I wouldn't select it as somewhere I wanted to go. Would I recommend it? No. They could fix SO much if they just got a better quality tortilla (and if they put some actual salsa in with the tomato chunks). read more
