Island may cause excessive happiness and spontaneous hula dancing. The theming is so cool, I almost forgot I was in Irvine and not on a tropical island (until I saw the prices, that is). But seriously, the lunch special and happy hour are a steal! The chicken tortilla soup is like a warm hug in a bowl, and the salad is so fresh, I'm pretty sure I saw the lettuce leaves waving at me. The passion ice tea? WORTH IT. And don't even get me started on the drink flight - the Shipwreck is like a party in your mouth, and Jessica F's remake of the Big Island Ice Tea is like a symphony of flavors. The service there EW! I feel like the service is what made me not enjoy our meal since that's a big thing too me. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by two girls and they were just giving us dirty looks every time and staring at me with an attitude. Even after we were sat down and I went to the bathroom this girl with two braids just would look at me ugly. Like girl?? What did I do to you? Then our waiter would make sure that everyone else was okay but my soda needed a refill and nothing but would bring everyone else their drinks. Food was whatever, we were excited to try something new but everything tasted like pepper. Their burger bowl is just tossed salad with a grilled patty chopped into 5 slices. Went here for a casual dinner date & I must say, the food was very disappointing compared to my expectations. We ordered truffle fries as an appetizer, which was delicious, but we definitely think they should serve at least 2 sides of their garlic aioli with how big the basket was. Halfway through eating it we were already done with the dip. We ordered the bleunami & Hawaiian burgers - the bleunami looked unappetizing to begin with then we had a bite & neither burger tasted fresh at all, we'd even say both were probably frozen made without any effort whatsoever. Each burger was also almost $13... without any fries - what kind of nonsense is that?! Shining SOME positivity though, shout out to our server, Quinn, for being very attentive in bringing condiments, napkins, and refilling our waters without us having to ask - exceptional customer service. After a recent visit to another islands we were hesitant.... However, this trip helped us in the reminder that islands is a good place to grab a bite and a drink. We tend to always sit in the bar, better people watching. The bartender quickly approached and was super friendly. Ordered a Mai tai, the Hulu burger, and the Hawaiian burger. Can someone explain why the ranch dressing is so runny though... I did have to use the restroom, and it was actually stocked and clean! Thank you for renewing my hope in Islands. read more

I typically frequent Ma & Pa Restaurants, but decided to pop into Islands for a burger. We were greeted the moment we walked in the door and were able to get a seat right away. The service was friendly and speedy. The staff checked on us quite a few times and anticipated our needs before we had a chance to ask. We had a pleasant dining experience. Also, the gluten free bun is a great size, taste and value! It's nice to see they don't price gouge for patrons with sensitive stomachs. read more

Hi you guys hope you are doing well and breathing and today I'm reviewing islands and so let me tell you how it happened. A bit ago I had eaten at an islands and had a very bad experience. I didn't go for sometime . Though just like hopdoddy I thought it might be worth another try and so that's what we did. I'm reporting back with 5 stars because it wasn't bad this time. This time there was fun drinks and the food was very good . They also have a lot of tasty sauces and our waiter was so nice to bring us so many. I really recommend the drink flight because it's enough to get you sailing and feeling fine. It was all very nice and I had a good time so I would recommend it to you friends. I also recommend trying out places you had a bad time at, it might have been an oppsie and so go again and see what's UP !!!!!! read more

Horrible taste, I ordered teriyaki chicken bowl but no rice too much sauce like stews and not teriyaki sauce. I told them no rice and they added rice for me but after 15 mins later(almost finish my meal they served the rice)My husband ordered Hawaiian burger but they made a different burger and taste horrible too. Where to begin here.. service was fine and the only decent thing about my experience. The food and prices are where it fell short. First of all for a $20 burger my expectations are kind of sky high. I was happy to see they have impossible burger patties now, but for a $3.50 add on fee unfortunately turning a $16.50+ burger into one costing over $20. The burger is not what I imagined from how it was described and it was bland and forgettable and not worth anywhere near its price. The fries were actually the worst part and the worst fries I've ever had in my life which says a lot. Small, hard as rock pieces of fries as if from the bottom of a basket of fries made several days ago. They were also overcooked and tasted stale. Overall this Islands location and islands in general should be avoided like the plague. read more

The bar area was fully packed and small, and no one was leaving at all, and we weren't able to order happy hour at our table. Management needs to do a better job at expanding the happy hour to the entire restaurant. It's totally unfair for people that also want to order from the happy hour menu. read more

We enjoy having meals with our family at Islands. The food is delicious with a nice margarita. The service is okay as some servers are not as serious with their work ethic. I've noticed that some servers work harder than others to pick up the slack. The reminders of island vibes are special to our family, especially the kids menus. read more

So I live close by and always see this place and it looks pretty cool, so we went there to see what's up and the inside is super cool! I like the whole tropical theme in it and I thought it was pretty cute. So I got the big wave which was an average burger, when I smelt and inhaled the bun, it tasted like plastic but the rest was good. So I guess they were right, their burgers are FINE, the fries were probably one of the best fries I had, they were so crispy and salty. The service was really nice, the employees welcomed us well and were really nice. So I would say their burgers were FINE. But their drinks are good. read more

Came here again and this time I must say that they have improved in many ways. First of all, our Server, William, was outstanding! He was friendly, efficient and completely on top of it! He greeted us as soon as we sat down, brought our food out quickly and was pleasant the whole way through. The food also seemed to improve. I got the Malibu burger for $13.45 and the buns were soft and the flavors came together really well. I got onion rings instead of fries for $1.99 extra, and they were perfectly crunchy and tasty. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it seemed rather expensive for 2 beers and 2 burgers, which totaled $47.00! That's a bit much for a burger joint IMO. read more

To start the New Year, my wife and I decided to visit our local Islands. (We were gifted an Islands Gift Card and wanted to check it out!) We really enjoyed our Tuesday Lunch 'Island Hop' :) We were seated right away and started out by ordering 2 of the Islands House Beer Flights, a Deep Blue Sea Cocktail, and a Big Island Iced Tea Cocktail. We paired our drinks with the 'Islands Nachos'. We ended up getting too full and ordered 2 Kilauea Burgers To-Go. xD We really enjoyed our service from Ethan. He was a great combination of Kind, Helpful and Relaxed. We appreciated the fact that he wasn't too 'Hands-On' and let us be able to enjoy our atmosphere while not being too distant. I loved Islands' burgers -until yesterday! I ordered a Big Wave with a turkey burger and they wanted to charge me $5 more for the turkey burger. First of all, ground turkey costs less than ground beef. So why are they charging 30% more? Secondly, their website says "substitute turkey burger at no extra charge". Service was good. Food is mediocre. They "Patty Melt" was ok, but should've been on rye bread, not sourdough. The manager brought about food, and I asked for tobasco. He said "I think we have a bottle. Let me find it". Really?!? You only have ONE bottle? 5 min later he still wasn't back. I asked our server, and she immediately brought me some. The service is friendly, curious, helpful, this location was a friend's referral and so far it is a good referral. The food was really good, I got the Kilauea Burger medium rare with fries and the island nachos, with a chocolate shake I don't remember what the others got to drink, but they enjoyed whatever it was. Went in the other day and I was served by whom I believe was Macy. She did not introduce herself so I had to look on the check to get her name. The nice hostess led us to our seats and as my wife and I are actively getting into our seats, Macy says "what do you want to drink" gave us no time to sit and grab a menu or anything. This felt rushed from the beginning and seemed like she did not want us there. We place our order, my wife ordered the big wave with cheese, Macy did not ask her how she wanted her burger cooked, did not ask us if we wanted a white or wheat bun. She took the liberty of imputing that information herself without asking. The food runner gave us our food and we reluctantly ate it because Macy never came by to ask us how our food was. When we were done eating, after eating around for 10 minutes for her to come by, she didn't ask us if we'd like any dessert or anything, simply said "dessert or the check" I've been to many islands before including this one, but I have never had such a terrible experience, food wise as well as service wise.
