During my visit, there was an error on my bill that the manager helped correct. I had ordered from the happy hour menu and had both visual and verbal confirmation that the waitress, Nikki, knew this, but one of my items was initially charged at the regular price instead of the happy hour price. From the beginning, the interaction felt awkward and dismissive; instead of acknowledging the mistake and offering to help, Nikki repeatedly seemed defensive. At the table, she said she 'just put it in the system and that's what it came out,' and I still had to walk back to show the pricing mistake before receiving the revised receipt. If it had been just a few dollars, I wouldn't have cared, but the overcharge was substantial, about 25% higher than expected. I appreciate the manager stepping in to resolve the issue, and I hope this feedback helps improve staff training and customer service in the future. read more

Took our server about 10 minutes to greet us, we placed our drink order and food order at the same time and asked for her to bring pineapple for my toddler. Had to ask a second time and then when we tried the pineapple, it was gross. Food took so incredibly long to come out. Server said there were new cooks tonight. Fries came out cold, burger buns were burnt, burger was charred and not good. I haven't had this terrible of an experience at a restaurant in a long time. I'm sure our server was busy and doing everything she could with what disaster it seemed to be. You could definitely tell everyone around us was getting antsy waiting for their food. It was literally way too long to wait for food to come out. I've noticed each time we go, there seems to be a group of servers, food runners, or bussers that are always on their phone and just standing around and chatting. Well, as much as I'd love to go to Pulp Fiction's fictional Big Kahuna Burgers, I had to settle for a local chain burger with a similar theme. Tldr; Besides being more expensive and getting rid of bottomless fries, the real problem here is the quality of the food and drinks. We have been coming here for many many years and it just does not have the same quality it used to. We have been here twice in the last few weeks and it was pretty similar both times. The service was good for the most part, but the food and drinks were the problem. Both time our fries came out cold and then after letting the server know we waited the whole meal until after we were done with the burgers for new ones. The second time we had to send one of the baskets back twice to get fresh fries. Both times we went the fountain drinks tasted off and dirty, so we just ended up sending it back and drinking water. My chicken sandwich was a rubbery consistency and her teryaki bowl was very clunky and strange size pieces of food in there. Shout-out to George who is a good waiter and tries hard, but the quality of the food and drink just brings the whole experience down so much. read more

02/07/20 Rating is 3 1/2 stars! Been awhile since hubby and I went to an Islands restaurant so tonight I suggested we their Tustin location. Finding this location wasn't bad and there was ample parking. We were greeted at the front and was told that wait time was about 15 minutes. Not bad on a Friday night. Their bar's happy hour is from 3-7 and there were a few patrons enjoying their drinks. We were seated after 25 minutes...seemed like the table and seat weren't wiped thoroughly. You know that sticky feeling when you get seated just right after a previous guest left? A little wiping with napkins helped. On to the menu...lots of choices depending on what you want for the night. Our starter was the Spicy White Queso Dip which was not at all spicy, and the dip was topped with a teaspoon of diced tomatoes, onion, and bell pepper. It was warm enough and tasty like the queso dip in a jar. The tortilla chips though were not all crunchy. We finished the appetizer. I ordered the Bleunami, meat cooked medium, with bleu cheese dressing, lettuce, tomato, red onion and side of fries all on white bun. The meat wasn't juicy as I hoped it would be and the chopped lettuce and red onion were more on the wilted side. The fries were on the crunchy side which I prefer and that was good. I had a side of mayo to counter the dryness of the meat. The burger tasted better in my opinion or I was just really hungry haha! Hubby had the Malibu which had lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, american cheese, applewood bacon, mustard, meat cooked medium in white bun with a side of onion rings. Meat was also a bit on the dry side. Hubby also had a side of mayo to add on his burger. He enjoyed his burger. We ended our dinner with a slice of the Kona Pie...it's mocha almond fudge ice cream & cookie crust topped with chocolate fudge, whipped cream, roasted almond (bits) & a cherry. This was a good choice to share for dessert. Would be better if there were more nut topping. Service was great, we were checked several times and asked how we are doing, drinks were refilled, more napkins were provided, and we had no problems about wrong orders or billing. We aren't regular visitors, but that may change. We were able to watch the teams we wanted to, which was huge. Everything food wise was tasty, cheddar fries and tempura green beans were a good deal and sauce was awesome, and I mean that sincerely without any silly reference to awesome sauce. My family and I have been long customers of Islands, but this particular restaurant has been truly the best. It's our local spot and the food and ambiance is always perfect. Tonight, Jorge was our server. Wonderful is truly an understatement to describe his service. He is truly passionate about what he does and genuinely cares about his customers. My boyfriend has a severe dairy allergy that makes dining out difficult. But Jorge went out of his way to ensure that everything was safe and prepared to ensure the best experience (which it was!). We have not been to an Islands restaurant in a very long time and wanted to give it a try since it's down the street. We came on a Friday night, wasn't too busy, few tables were open and we got sat immediately. I must say, the service here was amazing. Form start to finish, every single person we encountered. My husband and I both ordered hamburgers, the last time we were here they were still doing unlimited fries. It doesn't matter if they were doing unlimited fries or not, the amount of fries we could not finish. My only complaint of the night was the fries though, we ordered truffle fries, and they were very salty. Enough where we didn't eat a lot of it. Had the worst experience here today. Usually everything is good and we love coming here but today was horrendous. We come from out of state so we are usually very excited for the opportunity to come back and eat here. We got to the restaurant shortly after 11 thinking we would have a quick lunch and carry on with our day, but finally after 12:30 our food came out and it was far less than par. The breaded chicken on the salad was cold and dry, ingredients missing. The burger was poorly made with the cheese not even melted and the veggies not fresh. The kids meal didn't even come out and the burger was missing fries. Not to mention that another kids meal we had ordered came out by itself 30 minutes earlier. We've been going to this Islands for over 10 years and there has been a serious decline in food quality recently. First we get sat. I ask for a booth by a window. The waiter/host says no nothing is available. So he sits us right next to an empty booth that was a window seat. I guess leaving it empty is better than actually accommodating us. Okay fine. Next we notice serious price increases and shrink-flation. We ordered wings for an appetizer for $14 and you get exactly 6 wings. Wow okay. Let's say that we just put up with all that citing the economy or whatever but the food quality was inexcusable. It was clear that the kitchen does not take any pride or give a crap about food quality anymore at this location. My Malibu burger came out with no toppings. I sent it back and they just slapped in a bunch of toppings without a care in the world including an entire whole onion. See pic. Does it look like a $17 dollar burger to you? My basket of fries came with a bunch of burnt little ends. No fries that were long than about an inch. It's like they scraped the bottom of the fry pan basket. Again, the kitchen has zero concerns about quality. I felt bad for the waitress because clearly the kitchen or the managers care very little about what they're sending out to the guests. Sadly, we won't be back. The declining service and quality all the while raising prices and decreasing portions is too much for us. Expect to easily spend well over $125 for a party of 4. Too many choices out there in that price range to put up with subpar food and a kitchen that doesn't give a crap. I see now why they keep going out of business. The burgers were ok but my onion rings arrived cold. They did redo them and they were just ok. My kids both had burgers too, and they barely touched theirs. I made the mistake of ordering a whole wheat bun after the waitress ensured they were fresh, and they were just as bad as you remembered them. My son loved his chocolate milk and the coloring pages were nice. We saw two other sports' families with little kids from our team, so it was a fun touch. It made me realize how spoiled our kids are as this just doesn't happen anywhere we take them! The bathrooms weren't very clean, but I suppose this was to be expected for a Friday. I wanted to give this place a 3 for the sake of the kids, but I can't see ever wanting to return here. In N out is so much better and cheaper! Islands is one of my favorite restaurants, and I eat at the Orange location often because it is the closest to my work. I always order the same thing, the China Coast Salad. He made our experience fantastic he was able to get things for us that we asked for fairly quickly, and sometimes even thought of things we needed before we knew it. Are used to get the fried fish tacos all the time because I loved the tortilla that you guys used to use. Unfortunately it's not the same now but I still liked the fish and the sauce, and the cabbage, my fish was tasty and the sauce was good on it that other ladies at the table got the I believe it's Hawaiian burger and they were really praising the burger.
