The feeling that your dental care is spinning out of control and it's too overwhelming to figure out how to change things? I was having that experience all over northern VA, and then I decided to trust reviewers and cast a wider net. I read the heartfelt appreciation from Dr. To's patients and decided to travel from Alexandria to Chantilly to improve my health care circumstances. That was one of the best health care decisions I have ever made! Dr. To is a consummate professional and exercises impeccable judgment. Also, he is a talented and experienced dentist with outstanding technique and precision. I have referred half-a-dozen friends and family to Chantilly Family dentistry, and they all come away with the same experience. They are shocked at how quickly all their concerns were addressed and how reasonable and sensible the path forward sounded as described by Dr. To. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the office is bright and attractive. A lot of TLC has been invested in building this practice and anyone who chooses to visit will likely come away feeling that they've never before had better dental care.

One of the assistants/nurses gave me a pep talk and held my hand when I needed it, it was some of the best care I've had! Dr. Ola was efficient and communicative and compassionate with me, I always really appreciate her expertise and care! This was one of the most frustrating and disrespectful dental experiences I've ever had, and it started before I even arrived. I called the morning of my visit because I was in tooth pain. A dentist personally scheduled me for 3:00 PM since I was coming from work in DC. Shortly after, the front desk called back saying they don't actually have 3:00 PM available and that the dentist "open books" and doesn't see the calendar. She tried to move me to 11:30 AM while I was at work. When I explained I couldn't, I was told I could still come at 3:00 PM but might have to wait. I agreed because I was in pain. "A little" turned into an hour and a half. When I was finally seen, I was then told they might not be able to treat me that day and would instead put in a "plan." They sent in the woman who Handles insurance and I was told nothing could be done because they needed to submit my insurance for approval -- despite the fact that I've been to this office multiple times and have paid my copay without issue. The only time there was ever a payment issue was my very first visit, which was due to incorrect information given by the office and was resolved. I have since returned and paid without any problems. Yet I was told they didn't want the "same problems like last time," which is implying what? This was confusing and upsetting. I was also told 3:00 PM is "late in the day" and that my procedures would not be possible because the doctor has "other patients." If that's the case, why offer and confirm that appointment time? ALL Patients deserve the same care regardless of time. I told this woman I am in pain, and she says "all it says you're getting is a crown and possible RTC." Excuse me? As if you know what pain I am feeling. At that point, it started to feel discriminatory. As a young Black woman, I felt judged and treated as if my pain did not matter, despite being a returning, and paying patient. I left in tears and completely disregarded. Not everyone, but This woman in that office has serious issues with communication, insurance handling, and respect for patients. After multiple visits, negligence, and repeated billing confusion, I will not be returning.

I first called the one that was in the same building as me and was surprised they were able to get me in the same day. I went down on my lunch break and was amazed at their customer service. Upon arrive the lady at the front desk asked me if I felt up to it enough to be given a tour of the office which I agreed to and loved she cared enough to ask. She showed me the sink and toothbrush and toothpaste they keep in the reception area for people to be able to freshen up prior to their appointments and then showed me around to the rest of the office going by the hygienist area, the treatment/Dr. Myles area followed by the billing and office manager area before coming back up front. I love if you do arrive early they do have a quite room with a t.v. in there especially for those of us who get anxious being at the dentist office. After a few minutes I was called back to have my 360 xrays done and my wing bites. Once those were put on the screen the dr assistant came back and did a quick exam and determined which tooth was hurting and soon after Dr. Myles came back and did a through exam and confirmed the tooth. He stated it was my wisdom tooth and it was just better to go ahead and have all of them pulled at once so I wouldn't have further problems with them down the road and be back in the same boat. He also informed me I had some other problem areas so once I went to the Oral surgeron and had those teeth pulled to come back and see him for a deep cleaning and to start the repair work on getting my teeth back in order which I knew I needed done for a long time. Overall, a great experience and I love how friendly and down to early Dr. Myles once and he was able to keep my anxiety down in an already painful situation. Even though he wasn't able to help me at that moment they were able to make sure I got into the oral surgeon they work with ASAP so that they could see how in depth my procedure would be and give me an plan of attack for getting my teeth removed safely (I have seizures). I will be back to get the rest of my work done and think for the first time in my adult life I have actually found a dentist I trust.

I remember her coming into our office raving about the office, staff, and service she experienced. She even came back with goodies - a boxed lunch, travel mug, and some gift cards (for the office) to share. She also mentioned she got a paraffin wax treatment on her hands while she waited? I was sold. I made my appointment with Dr. Myles for a cleaning. After being welcomed into the office, they sat me in a private room with a massage chair and a TV to wait and fill out my paperwork. Then, the hygienist took me for my paraffin wax treatment (woohoo!). The hygienist was super friendly and she did a wonderful job - pain free! (Yessss). Dr. Myles did an exam at the end quickly, but was knowledgeable and very kind. I had 4 cavaties (my first ones, boo), and they helped me set up my appointment quickly for the following week and when I came in to get them done, I was in and out in 30 minutes. And no pain. It was awesome. Oh, and I also got my mug and boxed lunch ;)

My past two dental insurances only cover this service for children 16 and under and is not covered for adults. The hygienist said it was covered and I ended up having to pay OOP. Two hygienists have verbalized it in this way. It's likely a 2 minute procedure that lets them make $40-50 hence why they do this. It's not a good business practice to not clearly and fully inform the patient. Parking is good, dentist is good. Equipment seems very updated and has the TV screen that you can watch from the chair. They seem to be taking COVID very seriously with precautions. Automated text appointment reminders are a plus. Their website for filling out forms and consistency/clarity of instructions is lacking. I changed insurance when I was on a different dental plan and visited this dentist as they were close by. Upon examination, my previous dentist confirmed that no procedures were necessary and I remain angry that this Reston dental office tried to extort money out of me and/or my insurance company for procedures that were entirely not necessary.

Saturday hours vanished, weekday hours are difficult for anyone with a full‑time job, and the new text‑based communication feels dismissive rather than supportive. Asking about weekend availability shouldn't trigger messages suggesting they "update my records" if I'm no longer interested in being a patient. This practice has strong clinical talent, but the customer service side needs immediate attention. Other reviews on YELP in the last couple of years seem to mirror my disappointment. ALSO, they may wish to remove the snarky, outdated and frankly cringe‑y "...we cater to cowards..." wording in their brochures and on their waiting room tables. It's just unnecessary. No one enjoys going to the dentist, it's a necessary experience. Here's a few examples to consider: "For anyone who prefers kindness over stress." "Perfect for patients who like their dentistry gentle, not scary." "We take the fear out of dental care -- no judgment, just comfort."

The new dentists we saw were no longer in-network and we were charged out-of-network costs. Aetna was amazing and did a one-time exception to change those visits to in-network. We had already paid our bill in full, so when First Impressions Dental received the check from Aetna you would think they would reimburse me the amount I had already paid. Nope! Not only did they not get the refund process started (I had to call twice), they claimed we still had a balance. This so-called balance was for "hospitality and in-office write-offs". One was from 2023. Interesting how this popped up out of nowhere two years later... hmm. They cashed the insurance check and instead of paying us back what insurance says we were owed, they're taking back all hospitality and write-offs and returning SOME of the insurance check. Basically being vindictive and taking money from an insurance check to pay themselves back. I've filed an official complaint with Aetna and will update this review once the complaint process with insurance is completed.
