I had my first dental appointment in probably 4 years (bad on me) after a family member referred me here. From the moment in walk in you feel comfortable and at peace. You are warmly welcomed, offered water, and a seat in a comfortable well-lit waiting area. Paper work is completely done in advance on-line, so that's all out of the way, they have all the information they need to get started. I was lucky enough to get Elizabeth as my hygienist, and I could not had been more pleased. She kept me informed with everything that was going to happen, had a great sense of humor, and incredible medical skills. The equipment is all new technology, and I can honestly say pain-free! I do need additional work since it's been awhile, but I'm excited to go back and continue this journey to healthier, whiter teeth. Helen, their Insurance Guru, will walk you through the options, explain what is paid for by insurance, what is not, really on top of her game. No email, no phone call, no letter. Nothing for four years. The representative admitted that internal billing department changes and operational issues were the reason it took them this long to reach out. Their own staff confirmed the delay was entirely on their end, yet they still expected me to pay without question. This is not how a patient-centered practice operates. If you value professional, organized, and respectful patient care, look elsewhere.

Arrived, led to an office, Diana, the specialist, walks in with a yellow pad and pen. She never asks questions or clarification while I provide a summary of current care and reiterate my interest in what is possible. To answer, she informs me, requires a digital scans (X-rays and a panoramic) for an accurate evaluation and treatment plan. Diana informs us these essentials aren't insurance approved. Unapproved essential, oxymoronic? Maybe. Cost? $380. I agree. Returning after the images are taken, screen showing the last image which was a rendering of the mouth/teeth, she sits nearby. Not facing images, rewinding, discussing, or even examining the mouth. Note: I, the patient, was never shown any image to support the diagnosis and judgement she's about to make, "You are the most difficult, complicated case I have ever seen"- She continues- without referring to (generally done by pointing to an image on screen) or mentioning any possible findings, "..not enough density for implants. My advice, and your only option, is to find an oral surgeon and periodontist to place a horizontal bar inside to hold a removable. I don't work with any." With that, the consultation was over, spent $380 and had no new information. Here are some facts Diana failed to consider or discuss; a) I already had 5 implants with crowns, never an issue for years. b) the same area she claimed lacked bone density had 3 successful implants- 1st over 6 years, and next 2 for 18 months. c) her suggestion for a rod-held removable is at least from lack of attention or at worst from ignorance. Based on reports from dental professionals, a bar-retained removable would need a few implants into the bone for support. Of course existing implants in the area have to be removed first- creating less density. My entire interaction with Diana followed a unique form of deductive reasoning; to communicate an emotional predetermined decision against providing care, whether from lack of competence or distaste for patient, I will know. Anyway, armed with a concept of a suggestion, my goal was stiff upper lip, pay and leave. Emotionally distraught, I walked to the reception, made the $380 charge for scan and requested a receipt. For a simple consult, the 3 people behind the reception had many side discussions about what was done. Assuming the papers they handed as the typical paperwork; list of services rendered, cost, total due plus receipt to reflect zero balance. After returning home, I realized my paperwork was limited to a printed paper with date, my name and total paid. I called the office to request paperwork with appropriate codes, cost and zero balance on account following payment. I also requested a copy of the digital scans. After few hours, I received a single email- scan of one X-ray. No paperwork, no scan, silence. If you are interested in implants, avoid this "center"- I saw hygienist, technicians, receptionists and Diana. Dental chairs were unoccupied except for 2. This place is nothing like Ridgetop in Reston pre-2020. This place gives a warehouse vibe, from parking to suite- with its numerous cubby dental chairs lining a narrow hallway, a large scanner at one end, the receptionist at the other. One thinks of a mass production facility without presence of "expert" knowledge- maybe one comes when a procedure is scheduled? A place run by a person as callous as Diana, making radical conclusions unhindered by annoying facts or deductive reasoning is unsafe. If that isn't enough to deter any interested potential clients, allow me to add how this client felt in her company; I felt almost resented (I wonder if an overheard talk of shared heritage with another irked her) and with each question she dismissed, I felt silenced by a cold glare void of a healer's concern. By the end, cruelty replaced the coldness. May we never cross paths. For most, having implants is a step toward cosmetic perfection, and for others an opportunity to finally solve a decades old problem with new technology. Neither one should ever seek consultation here. We know there are dentists that may not be the best in every area, but I have never met one as aloof, unkind and arrogant as Diana. I can almost bet that if she donned a façade of civil chair-side behavior, the suffocated contempt would explosively bypass awareness ISO the bliss she must associate with crushing hope with alternative facts.

In my experience, there has been a noticeable shift toward upselling services and a lack of transparency regarding costs. During a recent visit, I was informed after the fact that I would be charged $48 for a fluoride treatment. I had provided my insurance information three days in advance, and I am covered under a Delta Dental Premier Plus plan. I was surprised that this service was not included as part of my preventive care visit and, more importantly, that the additional charge was not disclosed before the treatment was performed. I understand that not all services are covered by insurance, but patients deserve clear communication about any out-of-pocket costs before receiving treatment. Unfortunately, experiences like this have eroded my trust in the practice. While the $48 charge itself is not significant, the lack of transparency is. As a result, I will be looking for a dental provider that places a higher priority on honesty, transparency, and patient trust.

After two root canals through crowns, both teeth needed attention from a general practitioner, and Dr. Dee and her staff were fantastic. I was concerned I might have to replace the crowns, but Dr. Dee, after her exam, informed me all that I would need were permanent fillings, and she and her assistant, Ms. Sincere, went right to it. It was easy, painless and very quick....I was out in less than 45 minutes and all has been well since. Both Dr. Dee and Ms. Sincere were friendly, relatable, and very fun to be around. It made for a comfortable engagement. The way they engaged was professional and I never doubted their skill and knowledge. I should also mention Franco and Ashley, both of whom assisted me in the initial contact and arranging treatment. The treatment required coordination with my endodontist, and that went off without a hitch. The new patient forms were easy to access and complete and, having done those, the billing portion was also a breeze. A special nod to Franco, who ensured he made contact with me after several missed attempts. So friendly and kind. To top it off, the practice provides each new patient with a coffee mug filled with goodies and, later, a thank you card that, admittedly, was designed both to thank and promote the practice, but was still a nice touch.

I visited Reston Family Smiles after repeatedly receiving their new-patient flyers advertising a…read more$98 special that included an exam, X-rays, and cleaning. The exam and X-rays were fine. The receptionist and the gentleman who took my X-rays were friendly and professional. The problem started when it came to the cleaning. After I was already there, I was told that I supposedly needed a deep cleaning instead. They spent a significant amount of time explaining why I should get it, showing me pictures, and discussing information that was meant to convince me to pay for a much more expensive treatment, which I was told could cost around $1,400. I questioned why I was being asked to leave without receiving the cleaning that was advertised. Only then did the receptionist check with the hygienist. The hygienist eventually came in, but her attitude was extremely rude and unwelcoming. She clearly did not seem interested in performing the advertised cleaning. What I received was essentially a very brief polishing that lasted less than a minute. I did not receive what I understood to be a dental cleaning. That experience completely changed my opinion of the office. I have no problem with a dentist recommending additional treatment when it is genuinely necessary. What I do have a problem with is advertising a $98 new-patient cleaning, exam, and X-rays, getting the patient into the office, and then trying to replace the advertised cleaning with a much more expensive treatment. Based on my experience with this particular team, I would not return to Reston Family Smiles. I also would not feel comfortable trusting them with future dental or emergency care. The receptionist and X-ray technician were genuinely nice. Unfortunately, the experience with the hygienist and the way the advertised cleaning was handled completely outweighed the positive interactions.

Update- I have seen service level go down significantly to the point where they just want to upsell…read morestuff. Once you say no they are not that warm/welcoming anymore. DO NOT visit this practice if you're broke like me. I have Medicaid and I let them know I could not…read moreafford services beyond what Medicaid can pay. I needed a tooth pulled however the dentist kept trying to sell me on implants. I came back because I couldn't find another Medicaid provider. My tooth is cracked and throbbing. I had to arrange transportation to get here. When I got to my appointment, they asked me to pull my first negative review. I said I wouldn't. Then the office manager said they wouldn't see me until I got the issues with Medicaid taken care of first. Of course the owner of the practice is on vacation spending all the money. On the day of? They wasted my time and wouldn't see a medical emergency. The issue is over $134 that they charged me for consultation, no cleaning no extraction. I extracted my own tooth with pliers in the restroom at Home Depot. Medicaid would not pay it because they assumed I still had Cigna Dental but I lost it after the divorce. I took care of the issue with Medicaid and texted it to them. See attached photos. But obviously Dr. Gloria didn't resubmit the claim. I did everything they asked me to do. The tooth that didn't get pulled started throbbing unbearably so I went to Urgent Care last week. Because this was an emergency, I decided to go back to Dr. Gloria to have the tooth extracted. This morning I arrive at my scheduled appointment only to be told to pull my negative review. After I said no, they told me that they couldn't treat me for nonpayment. Keep in mind this was a medical emergency. *Added next day* I googled dentist that take Medicaid and found Herndon Dental Arts. They saw me the same day. The office is much bigger, cleaner, longer hours, much more professional front desk staff and the hygienists and doctors were awesome friendly and didn't try to upsell me. They extracted two bad teeth and took x-rays for dentures. I was there until 8 pm on a Friday. Much much better overall experience than Dr. Gloria's "glory hole" dental practice.

After…read morecareful review it appears a lot of these people don't understand dental practices or due to their writing style appear to have a low emotional IQ. I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with this clinic. I've had X-rays, dental exams/cleanings, tooth repair and teeth whitening. All of which were fantastic. I actually drive 1 hour to go here since moving. The hygienist who I usually go to makes the cleaning process painless and even pleasant. Something I never thought I'd say. The reception staff is incredibly kind and helpful. I also had really great results on my teeth whitening ! They often run specials for it and was excited to get a good deal and many shades of lightening! (Due to mine being comprised of surface level stains) One of the dentist's exams the dentist noticed my lymph nodes under my neck were swollen and recommended me to see a doctor regarding the matter. VERY THROUGH! I recommend this clinic to legit everyone that's in the market for a dentist.
