Italian express is hands down the best pizza in the neighborhood. We usually get the sicilian w anchovies but a few months ago something was weird on the site where we order and it wouldn't let us order it. So we ordered the Grandma's pie instead. And we pretty much haven't gone back. It is the best pizza on the planet. We have turned so many neighborhood people onto it. Also, it arrives fast too. (altho that might be bc we live very close by lol). We have also purchased slices from the store a lot and I hear they have good mexican but I haven't had that yet. read more

I ordered a small pepperoni, onion and pepper Stromboli ($16.95), and a small fried ravioli ($8.95) for pick-up. The Stromboli barely had hardly any pepperoni, and tasted only average. The fried ravioli was AWFUL. The raviolis were tiny and almost burned. The cheese filling had been entirely cooked out, so they were like dry empty shells, completely inedible. I phoned in my complaints, and got a perfunctory apology, but nothing else. Don't waste your money at Italian Express. There are much better places nearby, such as Lazos or Angelinos. read more

Worst antipasto salad I've ever had. First off, false advertising. Not romaine lettuce, but just crappy iceberg lettuce. 4 slices of salami. A couple slices of terrible sandwich cheese. Over cooked hard boiled egg. Canned roasted red peppers. Some super suspect tuna that they gave you 2 cups of (no exaggeration). No one needs that much bland, blobby tuna. Garlic knots were nothing special. Some were normal size and some were tiny. Made no sense. Will never return. read more

Fish hoagies, cheese steaks and buffalo chicken pizzas are the best things to eat here. I have had other stuff like the spaghetti and meatball, fries and chicken noodle soup. I must say "I'm spoiled and love it here." This place is fine during the day hours and night hours. Its a local pizza spot with good people who love to eat fattening stuff. lol. Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night with a friend. We were the only ones there dining in, it seems like it's more of one of those spots where people order to pick up. Lots of people coming to pick up pizzas. Their pizza smelled pretty good, but hey, most pizza joints do! I went simple and just ordered a Caesar salad, and my friend got the chicken parme. We didn't have to wait very long, which was nice. The salad was a typical Caesar salad, the romaine lettuce was nice and fresh, the croutons were tasty. The dressing tasted great, I've had some Caesar dressings that are terrible, but the dressing here was nice and flavorful. Our meals each came with a chunk of bread on the side, I guess more like it was a pizza dough that had been cooked up and then cut into 4's to be served as a side to meals. I tried some of the chicken from my friend's chicken parme. It was pretty dry, and overcooked. The dish was pretty cheesy, which he liked. Personally, I think it was way overpriced for the quality. We sat for probably over an hour just chatting. During that time lots of people were in and out picking up orders. There was a man at one point who came in and very loudly was asking the people behind the counter to make him a free pizza because he had gotten jumped by some kids. They told him no, and he left, but then he came back about 4 times. That really put a damper on our ability to have a conversation because he was yelling so loudly. I would be willing to come back to try their pizza, but I would just order one to go. read more

I order from here absolutely way too regularly, for how unreasonable and terrible the customer service is and following order instructions. While this place has good food 80% if they follow your order correctly or the right person makes it. The cost is way OVER PRICED for what you are buying! And if you order through ubereats. They don't inform you what will cost you more, to determine if you want upcharges. They tried to charge me an extra $4 just for some onions in my food. Not to mention they always charge me almost $2 for a drink and either send me the wrong one or they put a TON of ice and it barely ever has any juice. Waste of the damn $2. Legit could've got a whole bottle from the bodega for the same $2. This place is hit or miss and as a regular. I thought I would've had some more respect for as much money I spend at this establishment. They don't even put condiments in the bag, salt pepper red flakes for pizza. Me and my family are new to the area. We don't know of too many places to get good take out. However Italian express is one of the best that we've found so far. The food was delicious, the delivery was faster than expected. And the delivery guy was very pleasant and they even gave us a large cold water with ice. This is not an upscale location in an ideal area. Prototypical hole in the wall. But you know what they say about holes in the wall right? Food is legit Philly style. My only negative is the mozzarella sticks. I don't know what kind of breading they use but they were pretty hard. This is possibly my favorite Italian place in Philly. No frills of a posh center city joint, but who needs them as long as the food is this delicious? I admit I was skeptical with the name-"express"- doesn't often make you so sure it's what you're looking for when good Italian food can take hours to prepare. But it's just that-they prepare for hours so when you order/eat, it's just like it's coming off the stove after your mom has been carefully tweaking the sauce all Sunday afternoon (maybe over a glass of wine). I've tried pastas, chicken and seafood, all of which were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I also absolutely loved their "granny square" style slices as New Yorkers would call it. Fresh basil sets it apart from the other neighborhood pizza places that feel more generic. Hands down one of my favorite places when I need a delicious, homemade meal, and am super hungry or looking to have leftovers for lunch! The guys there couldn't be nicer either. There is something about ordering lunch delivery in this area. I normally go into this location and never had a problem but ordering a delivery is another story. I haven't received a correct order yet. This last time it was totally wrong too busy during a work day to have to worry about getting your lunch replaced after you paid for a cheesesteak hoagie extra meat and receive a regular cheesesteak. I guess if I dare to order out it will remain with Angelino's the only place that has not delivered a wrong order. Confused by the mixed reviews? Like most things in life, the truth is somewhere in the middle, right around 2.5 stars. We ordered delivery on a Friday night: two specialty pizzas (the Italian Express Special and Chicken Cordon Bleu) and an order of chicken tenders. Quick and friendly service? Amen. Enormous appetite from 6 hours of watching March Madness? Got it. The pizza? Mehhhh. The crust was mediocre and not particularly worth eating. The tomato sauce, cheese and toppings seemed sparse and yet the whole slice was incredibly greasy--not sure how that worked. Surprisingly, the highlight was the side of fries that came with the chicken fingers: garlicky and extra crisp. Oh, and they only take cash for delivery. Bizarre. Rumor has it that the paninis are a better option, but for my future pizza delivery needs, I'm taking my plastic back to Angelino's and their dreamy marinara sauce. read more

Bleh. Got a take-out vegetarian stromboli. It may be the greasiest thing I've ever consumed. I'm not being dramatic at all when I tell you that I cut the thing in half, held it upside down, and drained about half a cup of straight grease out of it. Not sure what the other reviewer was smoking. The pizza here is the best I've had in years. I lived in NYC for 5 years and, aside from expensive, old style pizza, it was hard to get pizza better than this. I'll admit that Angelino's, which is nearby, comes close, but it's definitely not as good as Italian Expres unless you really like tons of toppings.
