My extensive Reddit research recommended Woodrow's as one of the best cheesesteaks in Philly. I wanted to check out a store in the area, so stopping at Woodrow's was a no-brainer. We opted to dine in. You pick your own seat and then order via the QR code at the table. They'll bring you water and napkins if you don't want other beverages. We opted to split their signature cheesesteak with truffle wiz and a kale Cesar salad. The cheesesteak was just fine. The truffle wiz was very overpowering. The first few bites were great and then as you're working your way through the rest of the sandwich, it becomes almost too much. The meat also wasn't as good quality as some other spots we visited on the trip. Service was great though. read more

Overpriced. Specialty sauce. Crowded place. I can see why their cheesesteaks are so popular--the specialty sauce and the way they prepare them really stand out. However, in my opinion, this place is overpriced (Guy Fieri visit did it ). I find their cheesesteaks to be decent, but not a "wow." It's one of those places you have on your list to try, but probably wouldn't come back to again. Overall, it's a great spot for a food adventure. read more

The best Philly cheesesteak I had. This is my second time coming here and the flavor and cheese is so delicious. You can taste the truffle inside the cheese and spreaded throughout the cheesesteak. The bread was fresh and soft when you bite down. We also ordered the shrimp po boy to try and it's delicious as well. It's a good alternative to the cheese steak. Overall, I will definitely be coming back here, I'm still thinking about that cheesesteak! We ordered online for pickup so we didn't have to wait. I enjoyed both of them! Service was a bit slow. Had Woodrow's cheesesteak for the first time in a while last night and I was very disappointed. The quality of ingredients has gone down significantly since my last visit. The whiz feels very grainy and artificial (I know, whiz, artificial? Never) and felt more like a spread than a cheese. The steak was on the tougher side and felt like cheap meat. Bread was very chewy, similar feeling to Geno's bread (no bueno). This used to be my favorite cheesesteak spot in Philly, and now I don't think I'll be back here for a while. read more

Came in the middle of the day Saturday and it was surprisingly empty. We decided to dine in and get their standard cheesesteak. Sauce was great, meat was tasty, apparently it's truffle whiz but couldn't really taste the truffle. Overall a 4/5 because the sub is subpar compared to other places. An absolute must try if you're in Philadelphia! The Woodrow's Philly cheesesteak more than lived up to the hype on my recent visit. The inside of the building, like many popular restaurants or take-out places in the city, is a smaller location with a lively atmosphere and super friendly staff, which gives it that true "big city" vibe. The cheesesteak itself is absolutely incredible, and huge, and the truffle cheese sauce that they make in house takes it to another level. WOW. I was blown away by the shrimp poboy. This is one of my friends favorite sandwich shops, and the first thing we ordered to eat upon arriving in Philly. Delivery to our hotel was seamless and still warm! The bread of the poboy was so soft and sesame covered. The sauce of the poboy and seasoning was a 10/10. Every bite was amazing. My friends favorite was the cheesesteak with the homemade truffle whiz I think. While I'm not a fan of truffle, I tried a bite and it was still so good. The beef was tender and again the bread soft. So good!!! Well worth it. I'd definitely get it again. read more

So glad I finally got to stop here. It was a very cold snowy day (we had quite a few this year), it was not a very big place. We pre-ordered two Whiz Wit steaks - which were ready and wrapped, but we decided to buy drinks and hang out. I typically favor provolone, not a Whiz fan, but I loved this sandwich. I'm not sure if it's the cooper or truffle in their Whiz (saw them make it in Triple-D) but it changed me. I plan to try other menu items, but it might be difficult to steer from WW. Just touched down from Los Angeles ,CA . Never have tried a Philly sandwich (what we have out here I'm not going to label as a true Philly sandwich ) did my yelp searching and found this spot . Parking was a bit confusing and we got a ticket but whatever lol so make sure if you're out of town to read each little sign .. Anyways this place was superrrr packed , the waitress was just standing at the register which was not separated from like the dining zone so I was confused like do I go up to her and order , I asked her a couple questions she said to scan the QR code .. but I had cash .. it took me asking her two more times for her to finally say to order with her if we're paying with cash , she was like hella miserable or something and giving mad attitude which striked me to give some back at the end (sorry ) anyways ... BUTTTTT the food was GOOD ! Did not disappoint! Bread was fresh , the meat was good , and the cheese stuff on it like the liquid cheese was literal gold! I loved their chicken cheesesteak sandwich. That truffle cheese sauce is next level. I've been going down the blocks for YEARS, never saw it. Drive it home 4 hours, and reheated and it was still that good. Lowered the score cause the regular cheesesteak didn't hit the same way for me, so I'm trying to ignore it without lying. The sandwiches were good, but definitely not my favorite in the city. We tried both the roast pork and the cheesesteak. Both sandwiches were a bit on the heavy side, but both have the flavors that quintessential Philly roast pork's and cheesesteaks should have. I enjoyed the sharpness of the provolone with the pork and broccoli rabe and I really appreciated the innovativeness of the homemade truffle cheese wiz. One highlight in particular was the side caesar salad with their delicious homemade dressing. We were very quickly after we placed our order via table displayed QR code (around 11am on a Sunday). The employees are all very friendly and were receptive to requests from other guests as well. This is a small shop, so I can see it being busy on a day with better weather but we were seated right away. Would recommend! read more

If you don't like too much cheese, I would tell them because they put a lot! The service was mediocre. The staff wasn't very friendly or helpful, but they were super busy. Got the cheesesteak and while it was a unique take on the sandwich, it wasn't perfect either. The truffle cheese is an interesting addition, but there was way too much of it making for a very messy sandwich. Also couldn't really taste the cherry pepper aioli and needed to get extra on the side. The restaurant is tiny and definitely a bit crammed, so be prepared to wait for a seat during busy hours. Service was friendly enough. Probably closer to a 3.5 than a 4. read more

Decided to give Woodrow's a try since Angelo's was closed and was pleasantly surprised to see what all the hype was about - their cheesesteak was delicious! That house made cheese sauce was incredible and the onions and steak cooked perfectly together. We also decided to try the breakfast sando with ham and it also exceeded expectations - next time would get the chipotle jelly on the side though. The place was constantly packed (all tables full and line out the door). There was some seating inside and we were lucky enough to snag the last two seats at the counter. I don't claim to be a cheesesteak expert or even a Philadelphian, but hot dang, this sandwich had a strong showing. The Woodrow's cheesesteak was my favorite on my short trip to Philly, so much so that I went back for seconds. The gloppy truffle whiz was soaked with umami flavor that bled through the paper, onto your fingers, face, and into your soul. It was definitely not a traditional cheesesteak, but rather elevated to new heights. I tried the other popular spots nearby but this one ended up being the one that never left my mind. For the non-purist who enjoys truffles, this would be my number one recommendation. The service was prompt and caring. I got so many recommendations to try this one. I think people love the idea of Truffle. And here, they may be right. The truffle cheese wiz with cherry hot pepper glaze was so good. Maybe not what I want on all my cheesesteaks but such a good combo for this one. The meat was a little chewier but not enough to make me not crave this place again. Absolutely worth the try. Food: good portion and very solid. It did not feel as greasy as other cheesesteaks can be, but note that their whiz can feel a little gritty/grainy. Not sure if this was just on this day, but it wasn't a dealbreaker. I would definitely go to Angelo's Pizzeria for their cheesesteak if you can but this a good option if you don't want to wait an hour at Angelo's. Fries were very crispy and oily if you like it like that. Service: Seat yourself if you're eating there. There are QR codes on the table for you to scan and order on your phone. Tried this place last night for the first time, and my WOW!!! I absolutely enjoyed this cheesesteak. Sorry it didn't stand a chance for a picture but I had cheesesteak with truffle sauce. Whiz it & provolone cheese, cherry peppers. I ate the first half reheated one I made it home. And the second half room temperature cold for a late breakfast. It is a glorious sandwich with perfect textured meatballs, a tangy red sauce, ricotta and mozzarella and pesto. My son's rage vanished immediately. This is the best hands down meatball sandwich I ever had. Everything was on point. Meatball itself was not mealy or super dense, just the perfect bite. One sandwich at $16 was massive enough to where the both of us had to take home leftovers (which we are eating right now). Point being is that the sandwiches are to die for. Certain sandwiches take longer to make. This one took a long time but boy! What a sandwich! This place is a gem.

A truly friendly family owned success. I try to go as much as I can. I love all their items. My go to is their birra tacos. But I love all their seafood specials. I've made my return to Philadelphia to try Woodrow's Sandwich Shop after seeing it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Having said that, I'm glad I did because it was delicious. With that known, I ordered the Whiz Wit Cheesesteak with fries and the results were delightful. To start, the Cheesesteak was one of the best I've had. The steak was tender and seasoned nicely. Likewise, the cheese whiz was homemade and had excellent flavor. Similarly, the cherry pepper mayo was outstanding and it delivered the perfect mix of sweetness and creaminess. On the other hand, my only problem with the cheesesteak was the roll. While the roll was fresh and airy, it was a bit soggy on the bottom. It was still a great cheesesteak overall though. After that, I tried the fries and they were top notch. To explain, the fries were hand cut and were definitely homemade. The fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. These were simply great fries, The bottom line is that Woodrow's Sandwich Shop offers splendid cheesesteaks and fries. read more

Ordering through the phone system was not very elderly-friendly, and the prices for both food and beverages felt excessive. The sandwiches were underwhelming. The Philly cheesesteak was more of a chopped meat style with a thin, watery cheese sauce -- it sat heavy and lacked the bold flavor you'd expect from such an iconic dish. The eggplant sandwich also fell short; the eggplant was soggy, sloppy, and visually unappealing. To add to the disappointment, the fries -- priced at $7 -- were a small portion, overcooked, and served cold. For the cost, the overall quality and presentation were disappointing. He was pretty funny, laid back and really nice.i decide on the Woodrow's pork and geeeewwhhhiiizzzzzz ... It was bangin'!!! Roll was perfect, pork tender, flavor made my eyes flutter. I've never seen a place so misunderstanding of a person's right not to like a certain kind of food. So I mentioned it to the manager this last time, and he was kind of a dick about it. He said they're so proud of their cheese they want to encourage every customer to choose it regardless of their reason for not wanting it. Well maybe they shouldn't have plain steak listed as one of the only two options available then! I've never been to any other cheesesteak place which offers plain steaks but then questions why you would choose that even though it's part of the menu. Have you ever ordered a hamburger from somewhere and they tell you that you should really just get a cheeseburger instead? Well they've lost my business because I don't need to be chastised every time and have to explain to them why I don't eat cheese.

It was ready on time Both young ladies were very pleasant and great attitude. Once back to my rv I couldn't wait to eat I ordered a large Philly, mustard chicken fries and birch drink. Let me tell you the fries were amazing and wish I had ordered 2 leaving one for later. The Philly was the best I have ever had, bread was soft and very fresh and the flavor was out of this world I can't wait to come back If you in the neighborhood it is well worth the stop

Took a short day trip to Philadelphia on Sunday, June 14, and had to try for the first time an authentic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. When in Rome, right? My cousin and family took me here, the original location of TONY LUKE'S, a mainstay for cheesesteaks in South Philly. The street-side sandwich shoppe had a a classic, no-frills neighbourhood stand vibe, featuring walk-up windows for counter-service. The dining room was a weather-protected, four-wall area with outdoor picnic tables. Tony Luke's covered a broad array of Old Philly Style Sandwiches from Roast Beef ($7.25 - $10.25) to Roast Pork ($7.00 - $9.00), Chicken Cutlet ($7.25 - $10.25), Rib-eye Steak ($7.75 - $9.75), Chicken Steak ($7.25 - $9.25), Hoagies ($7.25 - $9.00) to Specialty Sandwiches ($6.00 - $8.00). They also offered Side Orders, Fresh Sautéed Vegetables, Breakfast and Beverages. Accustomed to being served Philly cheesesteak sandwiches with provolone, grilled onion and green peppers in California (which I love), I was surprised to learn that the traditional cheesesteak from Philadelphia is composed of only thinly shaved ribeye steak, griddled quickly, chopped, and topped with lots of cheese (Whiz or otherwise) served on a soft, crusty hoagie roll. We ordered a Cheese Steak ($8.75) as well as a Cheese Steak Hoagie ($9.75), both of which were tightly wrapped long rolls in Tony Luke's wax paper. They were OK, neither knocked my socks off, unfortunately. My search for a mind blowing cheesesteak will continue when I return to Philly.
