I don't know if this place is under different ownership than it used to be but the pizza over the past year or two has become a totally different thing than it used to be: The pepperonis are now lackluster. This place was a go to growing up in Towson...definitely not the same. Went in at 7:00 on a Saturday night. Sitting with my wife and my 92 year old grandmother. While my grandmother is still eating by 7:30 the waitress is throwing to go boxes at us. Then proceeds to come back and tell us they are closing in 5 minutes, also mopping the floor right in front of my grandmother who has a walker right in front of our booth. Food was mediocre and no liquor license anymore. As we walk to our car The Gourmet and Mucho Gusto were packed with customers still eating and sitting at the bar. When did tipping at a carry out window become a must ?? I use to order from here 1 a week minimum. Because I moved I haven't ordered from here for a month or so. But after ordering a $28 spaghetti with meatballs dinner. I paid with card. And kept cash for tip. Thank God I did. Because in less then 5 minutes they brought me up microwaved dinner. This was my first time trying Italian Gardens in Kenilworth. I decided to stop by before work one day. I got both the eggplant parmigiana sub and a medium cheese pizza. The pizza was flavorful, nice and hot. I liked the eggplant parm sub as well. There was just the right ratio of bread to eggplant. The sub however was not as hot as the pizza. Due to me being on a time crunch, I wasn't going to make a big deal of it. The food tasted good though; I will be giving them another visit soon. I want to try other menu items. The pizza and even the SALADS are coated in grease and it looks like the owner needs to go through customer service training. Your average pizza place. They do make all their pizza fresh and we did see a lot of take out orders. Everything we ordered was plentiful. We ate what we could there and then took the rest to go. The zucchini sticks were very fresh and hot when they arrived. The pizzas are very generously sized as well. The gardeners pizza had plenty of toppings and a nice thin crust. The vegetarian was also topped with lots of toppings! I would only go back here if I happen to be in the area or in the mall. Oh! Entrance is IN the mall. A couple of weeks ago, I was working in Baltimore County (Towson) and went over here for lunch. The place is inside a tiny mall called the Shops at Kenilworth. This is the only actual lunch item in their food court area. There was an ice cream and cupcake place. The folks of Baltimore County must love their desserts if 2 of the 3 places were desserts! I remembered I went here for pizza about 3 years and recalled, it was decent pizza. There was a Yelp deal, which was free fries with purchase. The cashier was very friendly but had to check on that deal. He said that they didn't know about the Yelp deal but would honor this. I got a slice of pizza and my free fries. Unfortunately, the fries took a little bit of time. I wanted to save the pizza for last, but I also didn't want the pizza to get cold. So, I started eating some of the pizza while waiting for the fries. The New York style pizza was even better than I had remembered it and exceeded expectations. My memory of the pizza of 2014 was foggy. The fries were the thick cut, which I like. They were good but not exceptional. They gave me a large amount of fries; the box was heavy like my weight if I eat all of these. Not to be excessive, I left 1/3 of the fries behind in an effort to not overeat on unhealthy. read more

I have been going to Italian Gardens since I was a baby, and my dad since he was a teen himself. So many of my favorite childhood and teenage memories took place here, and it *used* to be a special tradition to come back for pizza and fries whenever I was in town. Italian Gardens had my favorite fries in the universe - perfectly crispy, thick, golden steak fries that were just as exciting as the pizza itself, if not more so. That was, until the new management took over and changed all the recipes. With each bite, you can tell that the ingredients are cheap. The pizza tastes like plastic -- at first I thought I had just gotten it on a bad day, but nope, that's just the pizza. (It used to be my favorite slice in the Baltimore area). The fries are the real kicker -- they're an entirely different shape and taste like they could be from any old generic take-out place! Honestly, I would have kept going to IG if they hadn't changed the fries, but that was the last straw for me. With that said, my family has completely stopped going to Italian Gardens, ending a ~30+ year family tradition. Please let me know if they ever go back to the old recipes and old ingredients. It breaks my heart to cut IG out of my routine/life, but there's no reason to keep going. read more

I ordered a crispy chicken cob salad...not a tough order...lettuce, red onion, bacon crumbles, hard boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, & blue cheese crumbles. The guy rings up a southwest chicken salad, and rolls his eyes at me when point out the error. I paid & waited for my order. When it's ready, I realize that there's feta cheese, not blue cheese, and chick peas on it. I take it back to the counter & explain the problem. The same guy rolls his eyes at me. A woman asks, "What do you want me to do?" I tell her I'd like the salad made as it's indicated on the menu. So it takes another 10 minutes. Upon opening the plastic container I realize there isn't any salad dressing. I go back to the counter & ask for salad dressing. At that point the guy tosses up his hands & says to me, "I don't know what to do with you." How about you my order correctly? I'll never stop here again. I don't need some twit gaslighting me for the errors his kitchen makes. And, BTW, the salad was meh at best. read more

The inside is very nicely decorated and there is enough room for families with kids or big groups. They offer salads, sandwiches, pastas, chicken and seafood dishes and pizza. Pizza is what people come here for. You can get a NY style thin crust pizza or a Chicago style thick crust pizza. This has a big following in the Towson area. I have a friend who grew up on Italian Gardens and still returns to the area just for the pizza. I had to see what it was all about. We ordered a small (14 in) Gardeners pizza. It was topped with onions, peppers, mushrooms, spicy Italian sausage, pepperoni and cheese on a thin crust. It was tasty and even had a nice spicy bite. It was tasty and filling. The crust was thin, so I would like to go back and try something with less toppings. Overall, the service was pleasant and efficient. It was packed the night we came and I was impressed with how the servers were able to navigate the tightly packed tables. The food was good and I would give it a 3.5 stars. read more

It is difficult to access the right number of stars for IG. The pizza at IG is incredible if purchased and consumed at the restaurant/mall. The pizza for some unexplained reason is not very good when taken home. Also, the non-pizza dishes on their menu range from average to not good. Over cooked pasta, heavy overbearing sauces and over breaded eggplant and chicken in various Parmigiano dishes. Overall, this is hard to review, but easy to act; stick to the dine-in pizza. read more

Today we had an order to go and was delivered. Soon after starting dinner we found hairs in our pasta. After finding the multiple hairs I called and spoke to the manager who laughed and said I could it bring back over to them for them to inspect. This is disrespectful and hopefully was not the full time manager, because of her lack of competence and long term thinking. My family has been going to Italian Gardens for years and will NEVER go back again. Hopefully the owner sees this and realizes that bad customer service and lack of interpersonal skills will kill any business. read more
