My dad made these for me as a kid and anytime I see them in the wild, I have to try it. The bierocks made were just ok. The pastry is great, but the filling was a little bland and way too heavy on the cabbage. But what the bierocks lacked, the donuts made up for by a million! We ordered a cruller, maple, glazed, old-fashioned, a glazed twist, and a chocolate cake doughnut. Just based off our order, you can tell there were no children with us, lol. The cruller donut was perfection. Airy and super soft with it almost melting in your mouth before the first bite. The old-fashioned donut (which are my favorite) was incredible! It was surprisingly light, for a cake doughnut, and had a thick layer of maple glaze. I think the layer was about an eighth of an inch, which for icing is bonkers. Even Peter North himself would be humbled by this glazing technique. Is this the most unassuming donut shop in all of the land? Maybe not the land, but at least in Clovis. A nice umami flavor. But I was missing the bouncy texture of the meat. And for 4 for 7.00 they were pretty small (compared to the dim sum places).
