I'm new to selling on consignment so I wasn't sure what to expect when they came by to look at two chairs I wanted to sell. Perhaps I was naïve but I expected more of a collaboration. Instead I heard nothing but how difficult it would be to sell them and how little I could expect to get for them. These were expensive, high end chairs. They took the chairs but instead of setting up a consignment agreement they offered me a check for a shockingly small amount all the while convincing me that this was the best I could do. Of course I regret it now but honestly I was so taken aback by their aggressive tactics that I agreed to it. It was about as unpleasant as dealing with a used car salesman though at least you know what to expect with car salesmen. I can't believe this is standard practice in the consignment business. I have no proof but I suspect that they "paid me off" so that they could sell them for a higher price and not have to split the profit with me. I'm totally disgusted. read more

VERY disappointed in a local business that I used to love - It's New to Me, over in the corner shopping center at Burnet and Anderson. I have both consigned and purchased many items there over the years. This time I was consigning our dining table and chairs. When I showed the folks pictures, they said $800 easy. When a different employee, the son of the owner, came by to pick it up, he said, no, the employee had over estimated. The best they could do would be $600. I could take a $200 Check (minus the $80 fee for coming 4 blocks to get it - would be $280) or wait and see if I got $220 when they sold it. I argued that the other employee said $800. He told me he had done this for years and the best they could mark it would be $600. I took the check, slightly disappointed, but willing to believe him as this business had always been honest with me in the past. Today (one day later) I go into the shop, and lo and behold, my table is marked $795. I spoke with the original employee, expressed my extreme disappointment, and told them either let me give the check back and consign it for the $800 originally discussed and now marked, or return the table and I would go elsewhere. He took the check and let me re-consign. I told him that only because he had been reasonable about it and because this had never occurred in the past was I willing to continue doing business here. I am VERY unhappy with the obvious dishonesty and blatant disregard for a customer from an Austin owned business. Hoping that the remainder of the situation goes well and that the young man is disciplined and reminded that long term customers are worth much more than the small profit his lying would have brought the store. read more

Just walked into It's New To Me Consignment Store today on Burnet Road and upon entering the store, two people were behind the desk, they looked up as we came in but did not utter a word. So we proceeded to walk the perimeter of the store looking at various items of interest, they never made a peep. Then we decided to go up to the counter to inquire about their service. Neither man even looked up; one continued to write in his book while the other one, right in front of us, continued tapping on his calculator. We stood there for about 10 seconds; they never looked up. We may as well have been invisible. Of course, if they were judging us by the color of our skin, then we WERE invisible to them. That was just downright rude!!! So we walked out. I will never step in that store again! And we had some very good business for them too! Oh well, their loss! I don't think they even deserve the one star I gave them but I didn't see a zero. read more

I read these reviews before going into the store and wanted to see for myself if they were polite and helpful. I went in twice to buy a dresser for my bedroom. Each associate I met was friendly, helpful, and attentive. even a sense of dry humor! I felt like the prices were right on track with what I would be willing to pay if I were to buy used furniture on CL. But much cleaner. I asked about the delivery service since one negative review was about that. He said yes they do have delivery service but it's a great deal only if u buy a complete bedroom set. Since its $80 for them to deliver. Makes sense, if you buy a complete set for $900 that is an awesome deal! But for me, buying a $200 dresser it isn't. He suggested Home Depot rental for $20 and they would help load it for me. I thought this was a very nice option and not rude at all for him to suggest. The person that wrote that negative review has to understand they have policies in place for a reason. I was able to hire 2 guys from CL for $40 to help me get the dresser. I had a great experience at the store and will definitely shop here again. I own a local austin business as well and think customers have an unrealistic expectation of what a business can offer. They do offer an incredible delivery service but if you are buying one piece it won't benefit you. There is nothing negative about that at all. read more

My husband and I began a charity offering homes for people with intellectual disabilities. A pet peeve of ours is the group home that looks like it was furnished with used yard furniture. We've bought (literally) a ton of stuff from New to Me over the years and our homes are beautiful. I write this atop a gorgeous knotty pine dining table with six leather-upholstered chairs which we bought for ourselves about ten years ago. What's for sale differs day to day and week to week, but get there as quickly as possible after Saturday when the goods come in. If you go frequently you'll find good stuff. I'm a little confused or maybe a whole lot confused. I have bought and also sold there in the past. Recently I had a sofa and loveseat and computer cabinet that was available for consignment. Actually I had a tv armoire also. I sent in pictures of all as instructed. Kevin called me and said they would be interested in the sofa,loveseat,and computer cabinet. He didn't want the tv armoire which I totally understood. Anyway I've done this before so I realize this is about the store making money and me making just a very little bit. Two guys came out yesterday to pick up the stuff. I had to move furniture around and clear the computer cabinet which was FULL. They came in and looked at it; went out to the truck, came back in and told me they wanted none of it! Really, I had sent pictures and Kevin was ok with it. I actually think the appraiser that came Did not want to move the stuff downstairs. It's heavy and bulky and there were only 2 of them and his helper was on the small side. He made excuses. He said the stuff was outdated. I've been in there. I know what they carry. Why in the world did they waste my time and theirs by saying they would come get it. He then told me what I could get for each if I sold on my own. Very very disappointed in this business and customer service. read more

We just had an excellent experience here. Bought a very gently used Haverty's sofa and love seat. Very efficient sales process, and just had it delivered by them 3 days later. Fast, friendly service. We will definitely go there first the next time we need furniture! read more

We hit the jackpot on visiting this store about a month ago. Purchased a really nice king bedroom suite, queen mattress/box spring, and a great funky little mid-century buffet that we're now using as tv stand in our living room. The prices were very reasonable and they do negotiate, if asked. I would definitely come here again if looking for additional furniture. read more
