We went here on a Sunday night and it was a lively night out with students riding bikes around, live music in the surrounding area and ambient lighting on the streets. We got two cookiewiches, it's nice because you get to choose two different cookies and an ice cream flavor. I wish the cookies were fresher because they all tasted stale and were rock hard. Maybe if they warmed it up before it would have been better? If I had to choose, the best cookie was probably the brown butter chocolate chip but the peanut butter cookie was so hard I couldn't take more than two bites. Ice cream was great though! I have very mixed feelings about IV Drip and have been putting off this review for quite some time because of them. I love the concept, the affordable pricing, the fact they carry McConnell's Ice Cream, the late night hours, the variety of desserts, and even the creative name... But something about their cookies really just doesn't sit right with me, the staff always seem to have their head in the clouds, and the environment is pretty dirty to say the least. Now I have to admit, I have been here very many times and I will be back due to the lack of dessert options in the Isla Vista area. However, the ingredients in the cookies are just somewhat off for my taste buds. Maybe they use too much baking powder, extra salt, a secret ingredient my tongue is picking up on that I don't understand... I don't know! All I know is that I have given them so many tries and still do not love them, but the location and price get me coming back. If I had to recommend my "favorites" I would say try the Nutella Brownie, Chocolate Covered Strawberry McConnell's flavor (they always seem to have in stock), and the Butterscotch Toffee cookie. All very different but all the best quality items they have, in my opinion. Have yet to try their coffee drinks but have not heard the best of things about those either. For those who want more than ice cream, they have a large selection of freshly-baked cookies. If you are in the mood for both cookies and ice cream, go for their famous cookie-which. It is two homemade cookies with a scoop of ice cream in between. The prices are so-so. I got a two scoop for $5 and then returned a few days later to try the 3 scoop for $7. I was a little disappointed that they were roughly the same size. For $7 I was definitely expecting to get a sizable serving, especially since I was splitting it. yay for being open late and for serving great ice cream! I'm definitely a fan of the salted caramel ice cream. I've had a few cookiewiches here before too. It satisfies the sweet tooth craving, that's for sure, but the cookies are just overwhelmingly too sweet for me. Though I've yet to try all the flavors offered (one day, eventually), the price for a scoop of ice cream is pretty pricy; same goes for the cookiewich. It seems like they've hiked up their prices a little, but that little bit makes all the difference to me. Dear IV Drip, I'm sorry, but Yelp's phrase for two stars, "meh, I've experienced better" was pretty much my experience with you. There are a fair number of high-star reviews here, and I don't generally like to post low-star reviews. But let me outline the reasons why I am: - Despite the shop's own employees acknowledging that they should have vegan options in their sweet baked goods and/or ice cream, they don't. There are a lot of vegans in this area and it just makes sense to offer vegan options, both for environmental and capitalist reasons (you'd sell many vegan cookies, I promise) - While one server was friendly, the other staff member seemed absolutely bored and lackadaisical (adjective: lacking enthusiasm and determination; carelessly) - My Americano tasted much more watery than an Americano is meant to (it's my drink of choice and while my experience does not account for a thorough sampling of all Americanos in existence, I do feel qualified to make this judgment) - The cup it was served in had a few spots where a dried unknown substance clung to its outer lip (but hey, at least you do ceramic reusable mugs) - Despite shaking the jug of oatmilk on the counter which I decided to add to my Americano to try and improve the drink, what came out was a watered-down stream of almost clear liquid. As I mentioned, I shook the jug, so this wasn't just due to the natural sedimentation of plant milks - I had contacted your shop via Facebook before I ever visited to ask about catering an event, and never received a reply--even though this is at present their only mode of contact aside from walking in Sadly, this earns two stars. You know, I was a little sad to plunk down $8.50 for a milkshake, but just one sip convinced me that it was worth every penny. For shakes, they'll mix up to two ice cream flavors. I went with Turkish coffee and cookies and cream and since they use McConnell's ice cream, every slurp was so perfectly rich and delicious. Whenever I stop by here, the baristas are so friendly and helpful. As I ordered my shake, one mentioned that they'll even blend a cookie or a brownie into it for an additional cost. Incredible little shop of wonder filled confections! Tom and the rest of the staff are all so warm and welcoming. It is easy to see how this spot has been in business 12 years strong in little Isla Vista. Family had an assortment of cookiewiches that included McConnell's coffee and toffee ice creams, smores cookie! Toffee cookie, old fashioned chocolate chip and a pink sugar cookie. I decided to sample their sweets and stuck to the jitters. Their beans are organically sourced and from first sip I could tell they knew how to brew. My red eye was delicious! I sipped a bit of the espresso before adding the coffee and the flavor of the shot was outstanding; hot but well pulled so as to not be scorching, full bodied in profile so as to avoid being watery or too muddy. As the premiere place for desserts in Isla Vista, I.V. Drip has literally everything you could want for an after-dinner snack. You can tell from the way that a crowd builds in the store when it's 9 p.m. They stock McConnell's ice cream (marionberry and lemon and chocolate-covered strawberry are my favorites) along with an assortment of homemade baked goods. Each and every one of their specialty brownies (Ghirardelli-based) is delicious, especially in brownie butt form. As I mentioned in my Yelp tip, ask the baristas if they have brownie butts that day! They'll normally sell it in a cookie sleeve for $2, and it's so worth it because they don't get stale. I'm also in love with their s'mores cookies and hot chocolate, which is made with real milk and chocolate syrup. They're rich and satisfy all the sweet teeth in my mouth, because let's be real here--there's more than one sweet tooth. Every single barista I've met is super personable and friendly, and have never messed up an order. I recommend playing around with all the different items on their menus because you probably won't get anything you don't like. Next on the to-try list for me is a latte bomb, which is a scoop of ice cream in a latte, or the large acai bowls. read more
