I visited IV Drip more often than any other eateries while studying at UCSB. The reason being they serve ice cream cookie sandwiches, or "cookiewiches." And they switched from Dreyer's ice cream to McConnell's ice cream in 2013. The cookies are all made on site daily, but most of them taste lower than average on their own. The first time I tried IV Drip was when my professor brought a bag of the cookies into class on a rainy day to reward the students who actually showed up. Only two of us came to class, so he said we could take the extra cookies. They were so bland, too salty, and a little on the dry side though that I didn't even want to finish my first one. For this reason, I held off on going here for months. Fortunately, the cookies combined with the ice cream make for a really good treat if you don't want to make the cookiewich yourself. Eventually I just went here to order ice cream because it's really the best part. The caramel and s'more cookies are the best in taste and texture. Both my house mate and best friend agreed. Nothing else is very good here and the acai bowl is a rip-off, though they make it sound like a great deal. It's tiny and has no good toppings. I was in the area and really craving an acai bowl one morning and yelp directed me to this place. Unfortunately I was extremely underwhelmed. I got the regular acai bowl which was $7 (average price for a bowl). The reason I was so disappointed with my bowl was because of the consistency of the acai itself. It was incredibly watery with random icy chunks mixed in. The flavor was okay, but the consistency was just really off putting. The bowl was also topped with banana and strawberry slices and some granola. It was okay, but it is not a bowl that I would necessarily recommend to others. The ice cream here is really good! Came here after taking a tour of UCSB and the ice cream just really hit the spot. The smallest size they have is a double scoop but you can ask them to split the scoop - that's what we did, and they were super nice about it. However, the scoops are pretty small so the average person would probably be able to finish the two scoops. I tried the black coffee chip and lemonade with marionberries. The black coffee chip is a coffee ice cream with chocolate chips. I liked how you could really taste the coffee and it wasn't drowned out by cream and the chocolate chips added a nice touch of sweetness and texture. The lemonade with marionberries is more of a sorbet. I thought it was going to be more cream based but it tastes more like a lemon freezee with a nice touch of berries to balance out the sour-ness. I like how they cookie sandwichs and brownie sandwiches. They also do smoothies! And they even had cookie samples at the counter - I was thinking of getting a brownie to go with my ice cream but the cookie samples satisfied that craving. Came in after eating at Freebirds and got a peanut butter brownie heated up with sweet cream McConnells ice cream on top. I've seen McConnells ice cream in Grand Central Market in DTLA but didn't know they were from Santa Barbara. I went here late at night. I ordered their ice cream cookie sandwich. One mint chocolate cookie and one double chocolate cookie with pecan ice cream wedged in between. The ice cream was delicious, I really enjoyed it. The cookies didn't have a bad taste, but they were kind of hard. It made eating the sandwich as a whole impossible. Other than a few quirks, a great place if you've got a sweet tooth! First of all, you've got high quality, McConnell's ice cream in delicious flavors. You're welcome to try them. The cookies are also delicious and soft. If you'd like, you can also request that the cookie be heated up! I thought that was super nice. One weird situation I got in was with the nutella red velvet cookie. I know some cookie recipes ask for a dash of salt, but this was legitimately salty... like a bit too salty for a cookie in my opinion... I asked the girl who helped me out and she dismissed the problem as just part of the recipe. Not the most sincere explanation and a bit too cool for me, but okay. Another gripe is that in the two times I've gone, I've seen scoops of ice cream in notably different sizes. I know scooping ice cream isn't always going to result in the same exact size (what are you going to do, weigh them?), but the difference was pretty big. And also, I was the one who got the smaller scoop so I'm pretty salty about that LOL. With that said, this is still an awesome place to go for dessert. Honestly, I cannot stop raving about this place. I absolutely love their chai frappes. It is my number one favorite edible item in all of Santa Barbara. All my money goes towards here so I try to frequent less often (which is really hard!) Their chai lattes are pretty good too, waaaay better than Starbucks. Their ice cream is creamy and decadent. I'm not much of a cookie/brownie/pastry person so I don't go out of my way to buy those. However, they gave out free samples of their cookie one time and it was really good! Not overly sweet, which is a big turn off for me. When I come with my friend, she always gets the brownies! She got me a brookie (brownie/ cookie) and it was super good! I feel like any place can have good food. What really makes me come back is their customer service. All the workers are sweet and friendly. In fact, they look happy to be working here! I'm not going to lie, my order has been messed up twice (with a minor difference but it really changes the drink around.) The first time this happened, the girl realized the mistake and apologized. She remade the drink and the manager (or owner) gave me a voucher for a free cookiewich. (They let me keep the original which I gave to my friend because I couldn't drink it.) The second time, I offered to pay for a remake but the guy behind the counter insisted on remaking it free of charge. (I tipped because I felt bad about wasting ingredients.) Either way, I left smiling. I've never been disappointed in IV Drip. I love their employees and their service! (They also occasionally have buck-a-cup ($1 tea/ coffee) and frappy hour ($3 any size frappe.) However, one time I ordered my drink late at night and the girl asked if it was "for here or to go." I was confused, but she told me there was a sitting fee for "for here." (My friend and I were the only one in the restaurant.) I.V. Drip is one of my favorite local places to eat, especially to get coffee and a sweet treat. The cookiewiches are tasty, the coffee is good, and if you get a cookie warmed up - absolutely delicious! Their regular deals, especially "Buck a Cup" during finals week, are a lifesaver for college students. This review would be five stars if not for one thing - the last two times I've been in, the owner/manager has been berating his employees! The first time, I came in and stood for a good minute before finally leaving because the owner wouldn't let his employee get a breath in edgewise to greet me, let alone take my order. The second time, I got faster service, but as soon as the employee finished my order, he went back to scolding them! The employees have never been anything but kind and cheerful in my experience, but frankly, if I'm going to have to deal with awkwardly witnessing a scolding every time I go in, I'm going to take my business across the street to the Starbucks.
