Anyone that has read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance knows what I mean when I say that Ivan epitomizes quality. He has been keeping my bike running at her best for well over a decade. I live in Oceanside and it is well worth the drive given his knowledge, work ethic, and integrity. He often finds and repairs or adjust things on my bike that I was unaware attention was needed. He also often does not charge for many of the extras he has done over these years. Monica is helpful and understanding, works with me for scheduling and finding parts. I do not believe you will find a better motorcycle mechanic or business team anywhere else. Ivan and Monica are absolutely wonderful! I'm so happy to have accidentally stumbled upon their shop years ago, because they do top-notch work at affordable prices. They've cleaned the carbs on my sadly neglected dirt bike a few times now and never make me feel like a Bad Owner for letting them get sticky from disuse sometimes. They listen to what I'm hoping for and offer me any options they might be able to think of. This feels like an old-school, down-and-dirty, best-shop-you'll-ever-find-like-in-the-old-days joint. very disappointed. I gave them $500 for parts for the bike. They had my bike for 3 years, I'd call to check in and the responses would be l get to it in a few months, then It turned into "oh you still want it?" Then to give us more money. They never did any repairs, tried to lien sale my bike. I assume after they let it sit for so long it would be more of a loss to them to get it running so they would rather just screw me over . Horrible experience, Ivan is an emotionless and awful to deal with, Monica is an awful human has no customer service skills and is completely unreasonable. I tried and tried to give them a chance and they just fumbled over and over. The fact they charged me $100 for the lien sale after they completely screwed my bike up is the most frustrating. They leave the bikes unprotected outside someone stole my front brake lever and assembly and they did nothing about it , not even tell me until I noticed when I was tryin putting it on the trailer. I was doing a rebuild of the rear brakes on my Yamaha V-Star 1100. While trying to remove the old rotor, 3 of the 6 Allen head bolts wouldn't budge loose. One became stripped. Badly. I tried the tricks I knew (vise grips, penetrating oil), but I couldn't get them loose. It was a late Saturday afternoon, and I thought I was screwed. I took the rear wheel to Ivan. Within 20 minutes he had all three bolts removed...even the stripped one. Saved my day and my brake rebuild project. I try to do a lot of the work myself on my motorcycles, but when I need the services of a true professional motorcycle mechanic, I'll go to Ivan. read more

I found these guys on Yelp and coincidentally they were the only ones who could get my scooter in the very next day. I bought two Honda Ruckus's that had been sitting for over a year with basically no miles on them. After draining the old fuel and getting new batteries installed one started right up and the other refused to. They were able to get me in the very next morning first thing. And for a carb clean and oil change and general inspection it was less than $100! And I had it back that afternoon! I would and have been recommending them hands down to all of my friends with Bikes and scooters alike. With Service like that and a mechanic that is fair and trustworthy. Those are hard to find. It may take a little while for them to complete the job than other shops, but its mostly because they have so many bikes coming through. reasonably priced as well. their hours are kind of wonky, so if you work nights, you will have a hard time. all in all, i am happy with the work they did, it was reasonably priced and although the work took a long time, their estimation on how long the work would take was spot on. i recommend taking your bike here. Edit: I had them install a chain/sprocket set for me tonight. Time estimate was a day but the actual turn around was literally 2 1/2 hours! i was absolutely stunned when they called me at 10:30pm saying it was done when i brought it in earlier at 8:00. I just picked up my second bike from Ivans shop and I have to say that this was the best motorcycle service I received since I started riding motorcycles 20 years ago. My 20 years old bike needed service badly. Ivan was very knowledgeable, and bike rides better than new. He did carburetor work, electrical on new highway lights, Spark-plugs, coolant leak, and went through the bike like its his own. So I moved here from NYC recently and before I came out here I needed to find a good motorcycle shop to work on my bike. Well, I searched on yelp and Ivan's shop is what came up as being the best shop in San Diego. So when I finally got out here I stopped by the shop to meet the owners. Ivan and Monica are awesome people!! They are honest, down to earth, and very friendly people . I had no hesitation with bringing my bike to them for the repairs. I dropped off my bike a few weeks ago before I went on my business trip and Ivan took the bike apart and long story short found that it was just a loose bolt that caused the problem with the bike. They are awesome with customer service. They will call you with updates and will ask you prior to doing any extensive work on your bike. No need to worry about getting a surprise bill at the time of pickup. I will be picking my bike up tomorrow. I can't wait to get on my bike for the first time in San Diego!! i was having trouble with my soft tail and came by to see if Ivan could handle it. he told me no problem and he would have it ready that night. sure enough called me around ten and i was back cruising by 1030. Since then ive had him do a few other things and it has always been done quickly and correctly. Avoid this shop! I dropped off my bike and asked to have the electrical system diagnosed. It wasn't charging. They told me it would be one hour labor which I was fine with. I hadn't heard from them so a week later I called them to see what was going on. The woman who answered the phone was completely unprofessional and rude with me. Didn't ask me to hold, just slammed the phone down and screamed at Ivan to answer the phone. I had to explain again why I was calling and told him I just wanted to get the charging system fixed. I offered to pick up parts if he needed me to. He told me to call the next day and he would know what was wrong with it. I called the next day to get a status and the woman who answered the phone (Monica?) was again extremely rude and started yelling at me and said I needed to stop calling so much. I told her she must have me confused with someone else because I had only called twice since dropping off the bike a week earlier. She slammed the phone down and started screaming at Ivan, telling him to tell me to come pick up my bike. Ivan got on the phone and sheepishly explained that he didn't know what was wrong with the bike because the battery was dead so he wasn't able to start it. I asked him if he had tried to charge the battery. He said 'okay let me charge the battery and I will let you know whats going on tomorrow." I could tell he was having a difficult time dealing with the woman who was screaming in the background, so I told him to take his time and just let me know what he found out. A couple days later I hadn't heard anything so I called, wondering if this woman was going to freak out on me again. She instantly started screaming at me telling me to stop calling and to come pick up my bike. I calmly told her that she must have me confused with someone else because I had only called 3 times in the nearly 3 weeks the bike had been there, and only because Ivan asked me to. She started freaking out and then even began making fun of my bike telling me it was a project bike and that they weren't interested in working on a bike in such "crappy condition". I told her I only asked for them to diagnose the electrical system. She slammed the phone down and screamed at Ivan "TELL HIM TO PICK UP HIS BIKE NOW!!" Again Ivan got on the phone and tried to smooth things over and told me that the bike needed a new battery. I decided to just pick up my bike and do the work myself. When I arrived, I found that the crazy woman had chained my bike to the wall. Oddly, she was completely nice to me in person. Very strange. I still don't know why she had chained the bike to the wall because they didn't charge me. (for keeping my bike for almost 3 weeks and doing nothing to it) When I got it home I did a little research online, I got my voltmeter out and tested the system and found that the generator was bad. Replaced it myself. It took 10 minutes. The bike is running fine now. I also ended up spending an extra $100 on a battery that I didn't need, because Ivan's diagnosis about my battery being bad was wrong. Ivan seems like a nice guy but he lets this crazy woman run this business and she has no clue about motorcycles or customer service. I can understand having a bad day, but being abusive to paying customers is a very dumb thing to do. Too bad he lets her do this. She chased away one good customer for life. Little did she know that I'm an internet marketer and could ruin her business if I wanted to. Incidentally, I told Ivan up front that I had found him on Yelp and went to him because of the good rating. Unfortunately even that made no difference in how I was treated because this woman is out of control and Ivan can't focus on his job. Sad. read more

I was very fortunate recently to discovery Ivan's Fast Bikes. Thanks again Craigslist!!! Ivan's Fast Bikes is outstanding, not only are they certified and experienced with many different makes of bikes, but the prices are the best in San Diego County, bar none. If you are worried about the quality of work on your bike and how much you will need to pay, don't worry, these guys are outstanding, with excellent service on my SV650. I have several bikes, which have been serviced by many good dealerships/service shops in San Diego. Such as South Bay Motorsports & National City Motorcycles. Good shops with good people, and decent prices. But Ivan beats them all. Same great service, maybe even better attention to detail, and far better prices. I am picky when it comes to service and people who will touch my bike, even more so than a price standpoint. I knew this shop was relatively new, but I did some research and found out Ivan has worked for most of the big bike shops in San Diego, and happened to speak with one of the service managers he used to work for. He only had good things to say about Ivan, and I decided to give them a shot. I immediately felt I could trust Ivan to work on my bike, he did a great job and all for cheaper than any other quotes I received. Monica who works the office was very helpful as well, providing excellent communication and prompt questions about the status of my bike. Any negatives? It's a one mechanic shop, which means you may have to wait a little longer than a big shop with several mechanics, but its well worth it for both quality and price. If you need it sooner, I'm sure they will accommodate you. Ivan has a customer for life; I'm going to tell all my biker friends about him as well. read more

I bought a bike off craigslist for cheap because it wasn't running well. Figured the cost of repair would still put the bike well below KBB. At first I called a mechanic off craigslist and even though he was a good guy and tried really hard to fix my bike he couldn't get it fixed. That had me feeling down. Even though Ivan's had never had any yelp reviews I figured I'd stop by to see how things would look at the shop. It was close by and I could check up or pick up my bike real easy. (and the free estimates was enticing) Off the bat, the place has a good vibe, I asked Ivan how long he's been in business and he said only a couple months, which would explain why he has no reviews. It looked like a simple Ma n Pa's shop, with Ivan as the only mechanic. However, the 15+ bikes sitting inside and outside his shop was a definite plus to me, shows he has a lot of customers. Monica and Ivan were pretty honest about their services, I've heard horror stories where dealerships would troubleshoot your bike, and charge for labor and parts even if their solutions were wrong each time. Monica told me they would do a free estimate (standard for them, which is already a big plus considering the labor it takes on a bike to troubleshoot it) and that they would call me before they start any type of services on it. Not only did he figure out what was wrong with my bike, but I also asked him to install some turn signals for me (both front and back) and he agreed to do so too. They called me back each time something came up, and Ivan even offered me options each time. I ended up buying some turn signals from him for pretty dirt cheap, and he put them on too. He even told me about all the modifications of my bike and what they do, and when he tuned my carbs w/ the kit I had from the seller, he said he'd do it to the optimum level in conjunction with the other modifications. (K&N air pods, single after market exhaust, etc..) Not only that but Ivan also told me that the bigger tires for my bike was not safe because of the metal fender between the forks. When you drive at higher speeds he explains that because of the heat, the tires expand. On a plastic fender he said it would be alright but on mine it would not give enough leeway for the tires to expand and thus might end up sending me over the motorcycle at higher speeds (i.e. highway) He explained to me that I can remove the fender and it would be safer, something I can do myself. I was pretty glad for that tidbit of information. (it had like a 2mm between the tires and the fender, Ivan said even about 7mm would be okay) The prices were pretty damn cheap considering that he also gives military or student discount 10%, it couldn't be combined however, I asked, hahah. I read that re-jetting the carbs can cost as much as 200-300 for labor, he charged me only the labor for that with 10% discount because I supplied the kit. I highly recommend this place if you want a bike mechanic you can trust and a good price, however if your bike is your only and main source of transportation, you'd have to ask him to prioritize it, which I am sure he would do. (not only could he fix my problem (which as he says was due to a previous mistake by whoever tried to do maintenance on the bike) but they were also the only one to email me back after I tried 3 different places) read more

Worst place ever. If you are willing to fix or maintain your motorcycle, please don't go there. Otherwise you have to pay couple 100 dollars extra. I have used this place for twice. First time was for maintenance, and second time was for changing some stuffs of my motorcycle. But, they did not do enough service of my motorcycle for both times. I happened to change some gears of my motorcycle which they did not fix very well. And I had to call towing company because I got flat-tire right after I changed tires from here. They are friendly, and really kind, but not responsible and skillful at all. I will never come to this place again. read more

Ivan is awesome. Took my bike there because he came recommended by a couple other shops whom didn't want to touch Asian bikes. I was having issues only a month after taking my bike to another shop to get the maintenance works including carb flush. Ivan went in and basically cleaned up their mess and it took a no-nonsense approach. Did what needed to be done and if something he saw didn't look right while in there he made sure correct it. He works efficiently and knows his motorcycles. Just take a look at his shop and you'll see that he works on just about every bike out there and isn't going to dick with you like a bike retailer would. Monica is also very helpful and pleasant to speak with. Not snarky like a lot of customer facing folks at shops. She is very straight forward and let me know ahead of time that they will work on my bike but would require my help in getting parts if needed because of the brand. I've had Ivan work on two of my bikes so far: My BMW R1150GS and my Triumph Rocket III. Both times I've been treated fairly and the work was top notch. I wanted to comment specifically about the job he just finsihed, as it's an example of what this bike shop is all about. On March 13, 2011, I had a little accident on my Triumph. I banged up the bike and ended up in the hospital. Hey, that's what happens when you mix tequila and gasoline! (Just kidding, really.) I left my Rocket III with Ivan while I recuperated. The estimate to repair the mishap was considerable but lower than I expected. Monica, the angel she is, updated me along the way with the status of the repairs. I picked my bike up a couple of days ago. It looks showroom new. And the best part? It came in about $350 under the original estimate. How often does that happen? I'm pretty happy with the service and the price. What else can you ask of a shop? I highly recommend Ivan's Fast Bikes for routine maintenance as well as major repairs. I recently purchased a 2010 Ducati 848 and needed to get the major 7500 mile service done. After getting quotes from the two major euro dealers in san diego, I uncovered it was going to cost at least 1200 out the door. After speaking with my cousin who also has a Ducati, he told me I'm an idiot if I go to them, and told me to call "ivan" ... Uhh who is Ivan?? After calling and speaking with Monica to request an appointment, she connected me with Ivan. I was then connected to a man with a awesome accent. I told him what I needed over the phone, and he knew immediately what needed to be done, and approximately how much it would cost depending on the shape the bike was in. We had some scheduling conflicts, so Ivan offered to be there on monday (they're closed mondays) so that I could drop my bike off after work. He quoted me much less than the other placed did, and with the great reviews, I set an appointment. I went to the shop and noticed he had some nice bikes inside, and some other not so nice bikes parked outside. What this tells me is that he can work on anything, as working on older bikes is not an easy task. I got my bike done in a timely manner, with periodic updates from Monica. I even made annoying additional requests along the way, and Ivan took them in stride. I received a call from Monica letting me know my bike is ready. When I picked it up, Ivan and Monica gave me a top to bottom run down of everything they did. I was so pleased with the service I had to write a review. Something small that really shows the attention to detail of Ivan's work: my turn signals were blinking very fast when I was using them. I assume there was a relay or something going on to make them do so. After getting my bike back from their shop, It now blinks normally. This is something completely unrelated to the work I was getting done, yet Ivan noticed it and took the time to fix it without being asked to do so. My bike now feels brand new, and I will definitely be taking it to Ivan's for all my service needs. I can't stress how great it is to know I have a mechanic shop I can trust to do work on my bike, and know that they will only do what they thinks is best for the bike, and no more. HAHAHA This is a little funny because I am writing a review before getting any work done on my bike. I am a business owner myself so I'm usually very critical when getting service from other businesses. This was my second time speaking with the shop and each time I was very pleased with the advice i received over the phone. Monica the office was very pleasant and seem to some about bikes herself. Ivan was busy but took the time to answer several questions and explained exactly what I need and what service they would provide. After looking at their website, reading the reviews and viewing the pics and video I was satisfied that this is where I wanted to take my bike. I am actually excited about having my bike serviced there. Ivan even offered to give me a ride home when i drop my bike off tonight. You cant ask for better service than that. I found Ivan's shop through Yelp and decided to bring my GSX-R 600 for an 8K service. I had called around to a couple other shops to get a price range for the service and Ivan's was the best. It was a bit difficult to find the shop because it is hidden in the back but once there I was approached by Ivan, who has an uncanny resemblance to Liam Neesen. I left my bike with him overnight and the next morning I received a call from Monica that my bike was ready. When I arrived to pick up my bike, I was pleasantly surprised when Ivan informed me that he found other issues on my bike but had fixed them free of charge (what shop does that?). I also had him change my chains and my rear tire (which I brought in myself) but it was money well spent. I was also pleased to receive a student discount, which they applied unscrupulously. Overall, Ivan is honest and got the job done with quality and efficiency. If I still lived in San Diego I would definitely go back and give him my business. Maybe the next time my bike needs servicing I'll ride all the way down to SD - it'll be worth the trip. My experience was so good here it compelled me to write my first yelp review.
