My brand new 2015 Suzuki Vstrom 650XT was hit within a week of purchasing the bike (55miles on the ODO), 100% the other drivers fault. I was traveling at 30mph and got rammed at a 45degree angle. The bike went down and slid a good distance. The bike was purchased at Fun Bike but I honestly don't trust their service department after hearing personally horror stories. I took the bike to C&D upon recommendation from my cousin. Steven found damage I even missed on the bike. He worked with the insurance company directly. Steve and crew worked fast to repair the bike to make it to brand new. I mean it, it looks fresh out of the crate with the .1 miles it had when purchased. Forget dealers... I purchased a xr650r from them a while back. I was told at that time the bottom end was blown and they replaced everything and is on a new bottom end. I put 3000 miles on the bike and was having a lot of metal shavings in the oil(copper shavings) on my 4th oil change. I thought I starved the bike of oil although I change the oil around 500-1000 miles and keep a close eye. I take it to a shop and thought the bottom end was going out since copper specs usually means the crankshaft thrust bearings going out. Advmototech took the engine apart and told me to come take a look. The engine wasn't a "new" bottom end, it just has a crappy weld job. The crankshaft seal wasn't put on right and had a pinch. Also, the oil screen that sits in the oil was almost fully clogged with shavings(unfortunately I didn't have a picture of it). They didn't flush the frame or just half assed it. Apparently these guys didn't do a proper job on the rebuild and overlooked some key things that could cause someone major headache later down the line. Will advise you to avoid this place as it seems they're not meticulous but rather shady on their business practices. read more

I had a couple of experiences with this shop, and they're... ok. I got what I needed for my bike there, and I expect you probably would too without much trouble. They earned a lackluster rating (and near last-resort standing on my list of shops) not because of what they did but how they treated me. I had dropped off a wheel from my motorcycle to get a new tire installed, and I was running up there after work to pick it up. I called about a quarter to six and asked if they would be around maybe 5 minutes after their 6:00 closing time. The guy on the phone made it sound like a real inconvenience, and when I told him what I was coming for he said, "well, I'm not going to wait any longer than that for just a tire." I don't make a practice of going back to a shop that openly tells me my business amounts to "just" anything. Even if it's "just" a tire, for my "old" bike, they should know it doesn't make me feel valued to hear their thoughts. If he had to leave right at closing time or he didn't want to stick around, that's fine. But don't tell a customer that they're not worth their time because they "just" bought a tire on this trip. I have a couple of bikes and spend way too much of my money on them, so I would have been back to spend more. Now I'm continuing my search for someone who will value my business a little more. read more

This place defines why I prefer locally owned and operated businesses. I went in for a front and rear tire change and a front brake change and came out with that, a cleaned chain (way overdue), fixed dipstick (the threads were dirty and I was leaking oil), topped off oil, lubed joints, and a clean bike. I honestly felt like I drove off with a brand new bike. The only con I can think of is there isn't a waiting area of any sort. They did a pretty good job at making up for it by offering to hold on to my helmet and jacket while I went to eat. I need to get my front shocks fixed and possibly replaced soon and I definitely plan to go back to them. They made a lifetime (or as long as I live in San Diego) customer out of me. read more

I've brought two bikes here, each several times, and these guys wow me every time. In fact, I can't think of anything I wish they did better. Check-in is easy and fast, yet thorough. They always call when they say they will, the mechanic always checks in if there is anything of concern, it's always ready when they say it will be, and they always carefully address every concern I have - nothing is overlooked. The bike generally feels, rides, and performs better than the day I bought it after it's been in their care. They even clean it up and have it looking nice for pick-up. There were a couple of times that my battery failed and I had to get my bike towed to get it out of the rain. Since they had serviced my bike before they charged my battery and held it overnight for me. When I went to pick it up they didn't charge me a dime. I often wonder how Steve makes a living because his prices are incredibly reasonable, and his team is very competent and honest. His shop is very competitive on all levels. I moved away from the area but I still take my bikes to him. When I see on Craigslist someone say the bike they are selling is in perfect condition because it was taken to C&D, and I have heard that directly from someone else I bought a bike from, I know they have built a stellar reputation with their customer base. I first started going to C&D Cycle Center back in 2000 - back when the "C&D" stood for Cameron and Dave. It was a completely different shop back then. Steve Grieb, the new owner, has done a fantastic job turning this shop around. He's practically doubled the size of the shop, with a suitable service area and showroom. The service guy in the back was nice enough to give me tips on how to take the top-end apart and split the cases on my bike - just because I asked. I like going to a shop where the people are friendly, always willing to answer questions, eager to please and willing to spend a few minutes B.S.ing about riding, racing or just motorcycles in general. Good luck getting that kind of experience at any of the big motorcycle dealerships throughout San Diego. Nice guys and very competent. Total waste of my time. Took my sons bike in got promised it would be done. Bike never got touched so I lost time lost a buyer and then they tried to lie to me telling me the battery was dead and they charged it. My bike just hit 14000miles and had to get valve adjustment. I called several places, and their quote was the lowest. When I brought the bike in, they were very courteous and very clear about what they were going to do and their estimate. Bike was ready when they said it would, and total price turned out to be a bit less than what I expected! Pretty good shop - definitely competitively priced. While I've never had services done on my bike there, I have dropped off rims and tires to get mounted (they were cheaper than Cycle Gear, but a little more expensive than a place i used to go to) they finished when they said they would and were nice enough to rebalance my tires (some shops are lazy and won't rebalance when they mount new tires) They also traded out a valve shim for me free of charge when i brought them my old one.
