My family and I went out to Salmon House for Fathers day this year; an old favorite, we were able to make reservations earlier than their opening business hours due to the holiday and the fathers day brunch they were offering. We were a pretty big party and were able to be seated facing the water, which was beautiful. As always, the decor of a traditional Northwest Indian American Longhouse interior is always inviting. Our waiter was hilarious as well as made sure to check on us often, despite how busy it was. The food was amazing! Pictures would not do it justice; there were endless options of seafood as well as the traditional breakfast items so it made it really difficult what to choose from. The line to the customized omelette station was a little much as it went from the beginning of the buffet, down the ramp to the other side so cutting back to our table after we got our plates was a little tricky. As we went on a Sunday morning, parking is plentiful, either in their parking lots, street side, or in the open lot across the street. If you haven't tried this version of Ivars or dont have a lot of time, there is also the option to order outside from their "Seafood Bar". Ivar's is a local favorite, so I had to check this place out while I had family in town. The Salmon House is a fancy, sit down seafood restaurant right on the water with beautiful views of Lake Union. Entrees are almost all fish based and are $20-25 each. The restaurant has a cool aesthetic and looks like an old wood cabin indoors. Small parking lot attached to restaurant. Family loved the waterfront view and the log cabin vibes. Some family is gluten free and there were tons of options for them to pick from. Cedar plank wild alaska sockeye salmon: berry drizzle on drop, corn pudding (a little soggy, not a huge fan of taste), green beans (yummy, crunchy, buttery). Salmon was very moist and yummy, mixed well with berry sauce. Alder grilled wild alaska coho salmon: buttery mashed potatoes, small amount of mango salsa, green beans, good sized piece of salmon. I spent six days in Seattle while officiating my goddaughter's wedding at the MV Skansonia, an event venue a couple blocks away from Ivar's Salmon House. The first day, I wheeled from my hotel about a mile away and passed Ivar's on my way to the wedding rehearsal. I ended up arriving early and wheeled back to Ivar's to grab a large iced tea at their walk-up/wheel-up option that operates to the side of the actual Salmon House. It's a delightful option with friendly staff and a nice menu. It's also a great way to minimize contact for those operating under CDC protocols. On the actual wedding day, I again wheeled down from my hotel, Graduate, and, yes, again arrived early. My goddaughter's father had praised Ivar's when I mentioned the place and I decided to go back and have lunch this time. Ivar's is built like a cedar replica of a Northwest Native American Longhouse, complete with an open-pit Native American-style barbecue for preparing succulent alder-smoked dishes. The interior offers Northwest native art, décor and historical photographs with front windows offering absolutely spectacular views of boats cruising Lake Union and Seattle's skyline. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating including seating on a barge. Quite honestly, the view alone was worth the visit. As you enter, there's both a step area and a side ramp. This interior has clearly been thought out with accessibility in mind. This includes making sure those who need accessibility have access to the same great views. I was thrilled (honestly "thrilled" is the right word) to be sat next to one of the larger windows. This doesn't always happen when you're a wheelchair user and when you dine alone. It complemented my meal beautifully. My server, whom I believe was Jeff, was top-notch and friendly throughout. There's an air of upper-crust here, but it's carried out without losing the hospitality (unless another restaurant I visited while in Seattle). I ordered the fish n' chips along with my usual unsweetened iced tea. The food is a bit elevated in price - partly because it's a nicer place and partly because the fish in Seattle is truly fresh and of a higher quality. Trust me, you will absolutely taste the difference. I'd always thought this was overstated, but there's no question the fish in Seattle is of a higher, fresher quality than the fish I eat in Indiana. The meal was delicious. The fish was cooked sublimely and the accompanying chips/fries were awesome. The portions were generous yet manageable (plus, I was really hungry). The iced tea was refilled more than once as Seattle was in the middle of a major heat wave. This was great since I was getting ready to perform an outdoor wedding. The restroom is also wheelchair friendly. Following the meal, I sat outside for a bit as I was still a bit early for the wedding. The customers were so super friendly and one even invited me to join them on their boat. The entire vibe here is communal and warm yet, again, fairly upper crust. It was a weird but wonderful combination. I felt very comfortable and welcome here. The atmosphere is wonderful. The food was fresh and tasty. The service was top-notch. I loved everything about this experience. While it may not be the fanciest restaurant in Seattle, it was unquestionably my favorite. They've obviously thought through accessibility and the view is simply astounding. While I'm not a regular in Seattle, there's no question a return to Ivar's would be a must. Settled nicely on Lake Union and right next to the University of Washington campus, Ivar's is easily accessible from the Burke-Gilman Trail. I say "easily" somewhat lightly as the hills around here are serious hills and while I had no issues wheeling down from my hotel, I was grateful that a member of the wedding party drove me back up the hills. This was, without question, my best dining experience in Seattle. read more

This is my, and my mother's favorite restaurant in the Seattle area. We take all of our out-of-town guests here for happy hour snacks. Fish tacos and a great draft selection is what we like! The lake and "cut" views are a great part of the experience. We usually get to see the bridge open on the canal and a tall-mast sailboat go through. On Tuesdays in summer you can see the sailing race called the Duck Dodge on Lake Union. On weekday late afternoons other seasons we see the UW crew teams practicing. The historical native dugout canoes and other authentic art, including masks and totem poles are awesome. Be sure to walk in the Whale Maker bar and ask them to point out actual preserved whale makers ;-) Adjoining Ivar's Salmon House on the West side is a micro-park where we like to the shore after eating. read more

We recently relocated to the area and are trying restaurants. We came early and got an excellent table with amazing views. The service was very attentive, plenty of refills and drinks brought out quickly. The food was "meh." Starting with the steamed clams. Broth was okay but I got the feeling they didn't get their garlic delivery- especially after my entree came. The toast was kind of sad, puffy white bread with little substance, but the cooking broth wasn't something I wanted anyway. Hot celery broth. For dinner I had the salmon Caesar salad. It was a huge piece of fish and cooked fine- no problems there. The salad was almost inedible, but I was super hungry when we went in. I love anchovies but there was no flavor to this dressing other than mild anchovy. It was a wet, whitish (can't say creamy), flavorless situation over partially-crisp lettuce. My husband had crab cakes which he said were good. I tried his mashed potatoes and they had a crust on them. Possibly plated way in advance and reheated or sat on a warming table? I'd be back maybe if in-laws come to visit or with people who've never been to Seattle. Or, because the location and views are so dreamy, I'd come just for happy hour and have no expectations for food. read more

My son picked Ivar's Salmon House for his birthday dinner. He LOVES salmon so this was a natural choice. We have been here before and love the old Native American Longhouse style interior. It is truly a beautiful design and feels very warm and inviting. Plus, it's Ivars! Nice local place with a lot of history in Seattle. We wanted a city view for our special dinner and they only had the outside area available for our party of 7. It was a beautiful early evening so we were fine eating outside but they could really use some heat lamps as the area cooled down quickly when the shadows came. For dinner my son had the Cedar Plank Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon and a bowl of chowder. His friend had the Alder Grilled Wild Alaska Coho Salmon with Mango Salsa. My wife had the Wild Salmon Sampler. My two vegan/vegetarian daughters had the Vegan tacos. My other daughter had the Coconut Prawns and a bowl of chowder and I had the Seared Ahi Tuna, Knife and Fork Salad and a bowl of chowder. Everyone loved their food and I really liked my seared Ahi Tuna. I felt they gave a good portion and it was expertly prepared. The salad truly needed a knife and fork and was great with bleu cheese crumbles, bacon, apple pieces, red onion, carrots and candied walnuts. Perfect for warm weather. Of course, the white chowder was awesome, as usual. For the chowder price it doesn't get much better than Ivar's. Our first time here with our friends from Washington area. Let me start by saying the view is as good as it can get from a waterfront restaurant. This was a very beautiful setting and rustic restaurant. We ordered the Fish and Chips and the Salmon Sampler. The salmon was very good and we tried different types. The fish and chips were not so great for us. The batter was not very well done and it didnt hold the fish together. Such a great patio area, but service is definitely slow with how busy they usually are. The servers were still friendly and definitely trying their best, so maybe a lunchtime visit would be better overall. We saw a couple tables had water carafes but we didn't get any and weren't able to refill out water ourselves. So make sure to ask for one at the start of your meal! The appetizers came out in a reasonable time and were delicious, but when we got our main entrees, our food wasn't hot anymore, so that was the biggest disappointment considering the price point. read more

Ivar's is, as many have mentioned, in an idyllic location with a beautiful interior and stunning views of the lake. We were seated for our reservation right when we arrived, and the details were amazing: they already had the three kids menus and a high chair for the little one just like I requested in my online reservation. Our waiter, Felix, was great: super helpful and accommodating whenever we asked to make changes. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't very good. We started with the Dungeness crab and goat cheese dip and it was overwhelmingly salty, like an Applebees appetizer. Our king salmon was well cooked (we got two orders), but totally overwhelmed by the relish, which ruined the fish even when I scraped it off. The potatoes and asparagus were great, but that's not why we went to a salmon house. Our party also ordered the salmon sampler and had a similar experience with their sauce. I had high hopes for this place, unfortunately my family and I left very disappointed. We went to celebrate my grandmothers birthday and ended up waiting two hours for our food and when it did arrive we were left in the dark unable to see what we were eating. Half our party received our food cold and 2 people received food they didn't order- including the birthday girl. She ended up eating what was given to her because she was done waiting. She didn't even know what the server gave her and couldn't see due to the horrible lighting she almost had an allergy scare. When we asked what was in it, it took the server at least ten minutes to get back to us. It was all around bad service and the food is overpriced for what you get, especially when served the way it was. We didn't stick around to see if the server would do anything special for our grandmother even though others around us were getting special desserts for their birthdays. We just wanted to get out of there ASAP. I wouldn't recommend this place for large parties or celebrations. read more

The Buffet was very good with just a few little hiccups, while we had to stand outside until 9:30 sharp it had the worst odor of freshly applied Cow Manure on all of the landscape. It was cold outside and they could have opened the doors but rope it Off at the top of the steps they had seat's there where people could wait or use the rest Room. One Old Timer could barely walk and he had to stand outside for 20mins. The quality of the food was 4 Stars since I don't give out five, there's always room for improvement. Our waiter was Excellent and was on the ball the whole time we were there. In a nutshell I would highly recommend this place when they have buffet's it's well worth it, I'm hoping their breaded Calamari is the same every where I would think it would be. Consistency is very important with a name like Ivar's. I'll find out when I visit other spots. read more

So since my last review we have been back many times and they have significantly improved. Last night was their first night being open after a temporary closure due to Covid. Everything was perfect. Great service & great food. They still limit capacity to 50% due to Covid protocols. Hubby & I started with oyster shooters & dirty martinis. Then he had the 3 piece fish & chips and I had the salmon duo. One of the reasons I withhold giving 5 stars is the size of the fish pieces. I understand it was happy hour pricing for the fish but I think you would get larger pieces at the fish bar outside for the same price. My salmon duo was excellent. A piece of Coho & Sockeye salmon redolent of cedar smoke served on top of a bed of heavenly garlic mashed potatoes with tender broccolini, my favorite green vegetable. We requested bread and they said it was sourdough but it didn't have much sourdough flavor. Still yummy warm rolls served with whipped butter. Considered ordering dessert but a slice of key lime pie was $9.50. I found that cost staggering when you can buy a whole pie for less than that at the grocery store. Price should be around $6 for dessert. One weird thing. We had 3 different servers over the course of the meal. Good thing the one who served us the longest was Jésus and he was great. We were celebrating a birthday, requested a window table in our reservation, we were pleasantly surprised when THE best table was assigned to us with views all around. Our waiter, Steven, provided great, attentive service, but gave us our own space and provided good recommendations. My wife had the clam chowder, she said it was the best she's had. We both had the three salmon plate to taste the differences, it was a tiny bit too well done for me, but otherwise the preparation was spot on, and a great way to sample and compare three types of salmon cooked the same way. Anyways with that being said I would say Ivar's seafood was delicious and amazing! The Red Chowder was perfect for the cool afternoon meal. I also had the salmon 'n chips. The salmon was fried perfectly and complimented the tartar sauce wonderfully. The fries (aka chips) were salty enough to taste the flavor but not to the point where you required gulping gallons of water afterwards! If your in the neighborhood and looking for a quick seafood bite to eat I would highly recommend Ivar's. Service: I didn't go to the restaurant and instead ordered from their outdoor kiosk. So with that in mind the service overall was satisfactory. I didn't have to wait in a line to order my food and it took about 10 minutes to get my order after ordering. Bartender for the win!!! So...we had reservations for 7:00 PM, but wound up getting there at 6:00. We told the hostess that we understood we were early, but she said not to worry, she would seat us. After over a 30 minute wait, (in very uncomfortable/ drafty seating), where we watched people without reservations being seated, we noticed that the bar was empty. We asked if we could just wait in the bar, and the hostess said yes. I was like, "That would have been nice to know we could wait there instead of in the waiting area"...However, I have to say, the bar tender was AWESOME! He let us know we could eat in the bar area at a window table, we had an excellent view, and he not only made our drinks, but also was our waiter and gave us excellent advice! We wound up having a fabulous dinner, great drinks, and thoroughly enjoyed or meal. After the poor treatment we received from the hostess, we now know to skip that waste of time and go straight to the bar! read more

Loved the view from the restaurant. Sat in the lounge area. Visiting Seattle for a week. Went during happy hour. The blood orange cosmo was delicious. The winter mule was too sweet. The blackened cod tacos was delicious. The calamari was over fried. I had the 1/2 pound dungeons crab. It said it had old bay season. Did not taste any seasoning on it. If it was seasoned my dinner would have been perfect. The rice and spinach was perfect. My husband got the taste of the northwest and my nephew the Crab Cake dinner. Both thought it needed a little more seasoning and for $39 for the crab cake it could have been bigger since you only got 2 or they could have at least given 3 crab cake. The staff was very friendly. This is why I gave them 3 stars. I think if they fix these few flaws this could be a 5 star restaurant. read more

It's been a while since I've actually eaten in the restaurant but we had friends from out of town and this is a standard to "wow" them with awesome views of the Seattle skyline! The service was good and obviously the ambiance and Native American artwork and the interior woodwork is stunning. Now when you come to a place that has "salmon" in its name you order salmon. We started off with the crispy calamari with house made chipotle-lime aioli, and crispy spinach leaves which was OK but seems of the frozen style. We went for the alderwood grilled salmon sampler which consists of Chinook, Sockeye and Coho salmon with citrus beurre blanc, balsamic reduction (flavor of sauce was rather bland), and red skinned mashed potatoes with green beans (a bit soggy and soft). We also had the wild Coho salmon with roasted corn relish, red pepper coulis, and garlic-shallot-rosemary roasted baby red potatoes with green beans. All in all the salmon was fair although it was a bit dry but enjoyed the food. read more
