I was craving some oysters and seafood, so I decided to check out Westward. It's a nice spot right by the water. You can choose to sit outside, but it was a bit windy when I went, so I decided to sit inside. I ordered the oysters, and they were all fresh and tasty. I also got the chips and clam dip, which ended up being my favorite dish. It was really flavorful and definitely something I'd order again. I also tried the signature chicken and clams. The clams were clean and cooked well, but in my opinion, they could have used a bit more depth of flavor, a tiny bit bland. The chicken was good overall, though I think a different sauce would have paired with it better. The service was attentive, and the vibes were great. Service was stellar on a Friday night in June! Everyone was pitching in and food came out so quickly. Service 10/10 Food 1000/10! WOW! The depth of flavor and uniqueness of each dish was incredible. Cocktails: I got the Carajillo Frosty. This was WAY too strong to where I could hardly taste anything but the alcohol. It sounded like a fun drink, but I was tipsy before our first dish arrived and I didn't even finish the drink. Oyster Shooters- Cool concept, not great execution. If we are adding fun things like Mezcal and Jalapeno vinegar I was thinking something magical would happen in my mouth. Instead, my tastebuds were seared and my stomach was questioning if it would keep everything down. This is a hard pass. Oysters: They go from sweetest to most briny on the menu. So we got top two sweetest, followed by two in the middle and the last two. It was fun because we were really able to tell a difference in taste this way. I found out Im a sweeter oyster gal while my husband enjoyed the brinier one. With our oysters we got a glass of the NV Azimut Cava Brut Nature-excellent with all of the oysters! We will get this glass again. Next, clams. This is a MUST GET! The broth was outstanding and a different vibe from your typical "clams in white wine broth". Next, Pork Belly. I usually love Pork Belly, and this was mentioned as a must try a lot in the reviews, so that's why we got it. But the Pork Belly is definitely Pork Belly-ing here. Super rich (normal), and the accompanying flavors were strong and also fatty. It was a little heavy for us on this night. Great option if you don't like seafood, but if you do, go for the Halibut instead. We had a couple next to us who got the Halibut and I could smell that we missed out on that dish. So I would highly recommend you get the Halibut (even though we never tried it. I can just tell it's amazing). Dessert was Spiced Chocolate Pot De Creme. Again, fantastic! I honestly wasn't expecting this to be so good but the chef hit it out of the park. Really this review is more so I can remember what I got and liked/didn't like and can order the winners again. The location is beautiful and has a lot of potentially, but we were deeply disappointed with the service and some of the staff. We went on Father's Day Sunday to celebrate my husband with our 2 year old. Right from the beginning, they told us they didn't have any high chairs or booster seats, so the whole time, we had to try to keep him seated on our laps. The server also gave us 1 menu and stated " it was their only one", which what? Really? Anyway, we decided not to make it a big deal, and made the best of it, but we were disappointed to see that the menu is very limited, and overly priced. The servers acted like they didn't want to be at work, we even observed a customer adding a last minute order when she received her check, watched the server make a face and then walk away, under her breath making eye contact with another coworker and said " Oh my God!". We were astonished to see the lack of professionalism of this establishment. They also charge for additional condiments, $4/ 1/2 oz of ketchup. Apparently there is a mandatory 22% gratuity charge with your bill, so maybe that is why the service is mediocre to poor, as they don't care about their attitude, they know they're getting a tip anyway. So amazingly good!!! We visited on one of those Seattle days that starts out rainy but the clouds break, and the sun came out just at the right time. We were seated outside and had gorgeous views of the lake, downtown Seattle and all the sailors in Lake Union. We've visited in the past, and I recall the margarita being a highlight, so it was a MUST! It's on tap, and packs a powerful punch. This is 100% one-drink-buzz-girl approved. For apps, we started with the Marinated Geoduck. This was quite the trial of new foods for us. I had hoped for ceviche and our server convinced us to give this a try. It was deliciously marinated, served in fairly large pieces that fit nicely on a Ritz. I was proud of us for trying it - Yay us! Hubs and I shared the Seared Halibut. OMG - so buttery, flaky, melt-in-your-mouth. It was served on a bed of tartar, along with roasted green onion (?)(I think). We started off by inquiring about the rhubarb cobbler, which was highly recommended. It did not disappoint. So tangy, so tasty, simply superb! You don't often see rhubarb on a menu. We wanted to visit a new place for the first time that we haven't tried to celebrate a special occasion and wasn't sure what to expect given the mixed reviews we'd seen on Yelp, but figured we'd give it a try. We chose to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful sunny day and the scenery of South Lake Union and the space needle. Our waiter and hostess were incredibly warm, attentive, and welcoming throughout the entire visit, made us feel welcomed. The ambiance was lovely and the music was nice. And most importantly, the food was actually pretty good, full of great flavors yet surprisingly light, and nothing over powering. When the chicken came out a bit late, the staff apologized and comped a dessert and coffee for us which was really nice of them, it's such a thoughtful touch. They also brought out a candle and a personalized sign for our occasion, which made the moment feel personable and memorable. Overall, the ambiance, service, and food all came together beautifully. It was a memorable first visit and we'll absolutely be back for sure, forgot how nice PNW was on a beautiful sunny day. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience in a stunning setting overlooking South Lake Union, and if you're a pet lover like us, this place was pet friendly as we saw other guests bring their dogs for the outdoor seating. Came here for a birthday dinner. Overall, the food was decent but overpriced for what it was. The main thing that made it overpriced was the MANDATORY 22% service fee. We definitely waited a decent amount of time before ordering and were rarely checked do you in on. For the birthday they brought a plastic upside cup with a candle in it to blow out. They must have a lot of celebrations because we were the third group while eating to get this upside down cup with a candle. Our experience here was awful, start to finish. We docked our boat and were able to find spots, so we headed in. The host did not want to seat us and tried to put us on a waitlist, even though the restaurant was practically empty. I counted maybe 5 parties max. When we told her we couldn't wait, she seated us without issue, which made the whole thing even more confusing. The service was terrible. It took forever to get drinks, and they were just okay. Most of the staff was hanging out at the bar for some reason, and one of them had an attitude when I simply asked where the bathroom was. Just truly so bad and hurtful. I usually give restaurants the benefit of the doubt, but this was not acceptable. We got the radish salad, and my husband got the oysters. He said they were amazing, and honestly that was the only highlight of our time there. Then the bill came and was completely wrong. Not one or two small errors, majorly wrong. We made a reservation on OpenTable, there is minimalistic seating inside, bartop and in their covered patio (with waterside views). We placed our order relatively quickly & the interior vibes/bathroom were nice. Fair warning: There is a 22% gratuity tip added on to bills automatically. The menu was limited with small and large plates, it seems their main food is the raw bar, food is family style & comes out as it is cooked. A bit slower kitchen service wise. - Baked Oysters (spicy!) - decent flavor - meat was not too dry - Potatoes (we liked this the most) - Seared Halibut (salty, but the dill sauce was good) - Manila Clams I think the main entrees were decent but nothing to write home about, our fave was the potatoes. Both times I've been here I've sat at the bar and found the bartender super friendly and helpful. The oysters are incredibly fresh, the wine list is thoughtful and local, and every dish feels elevated without being pretentious. It's the kind of place where you can linger over a long meal and just enjoy the view- right over the lake! It's my go to first stop in the neighborhood and always excited to see their salad option, my favorite so far as been a decadent burrata. Guys, definitely a deck to find during beautiful Seattle weather! Steady stream of respectful SUP'ers dropping in right between Westward and Gasworks Brewing - lots of action to watch on the water. Lots of drop-in business but it looks like they take reservations as well. Waitstaff is AWESOME - everyone checking in you even if not your assigned server. The crab roll is a definite bell-ringer - very fresh and flavorful. I had the braised pork birria, which is a fun and light homage to chilaquiles. Also got recommendation on a selection from an extremely thorough oyster list and she brought me some bay water indigos which ate very clean and bright - I would highly recommend. View from three rows in on the deck under a bright umbrella of...umbrellas! Note: this is a Service Fee restaurant, and when I asked I heard that approximately 50% ends up with the staff. But sounds like they also get some pay-out during winter months when most a laid off until the weather turns. I chose to give a bit more (which goes 100% to staff) as a thanks for the attentiveness today. I love this restaurant, beautiful exterior and interior. Sunny weathers in Seattle always takes me back to this restaurant to have dinner by the water. They source the freshest seafood in town and I love all the rotating dishes they have on their menu. My favorite so far has been the seared halibut (cooked to perfection and the top is crispy - yum!). Service is phenomenal like always. Our server checks in from time to time to make sure we have wine in our glasses and I'm glad she knows her oysters! Finally the host arrived and sat us in the semi enclosed space. The view was probably the best part of the restaurant. The server was not super friendly or attentive. Wanted to get dessert but he never came back so we just ask for the check. The automatically charge a 22% service charge so he probably didn't need to give us good service since he was already going to get that amount. The food was ok nothing remarkable for the prices they charge. The bread $8 was served cold. Chips and salsa was ok... nothing special. The radish salad was probably the best thing we ordered. Westward had always been a special place for us with great views and food. We dined there tonight and were quite disappointed. The menu was limited to mostly oysters. We had the clams (excellent) and hallibut (also excellent) but the lettuce salad was far too salty. The service was mediocre at best; the salad and main dishes were brought at the same time. The table was not cleaned when the dishes were cleared. This review is for the Shut Up Bobby's pop-up that's happening right now. Heads up: you go on, choose a table, and order from a QR code on the table. No service, except for when they run your food out. First: The food was great! We got the salmon and 1/2 chicken platters. The view was also wonderful. Bad: The prices are bananas. Our two make-your-own taco platters were $100, and that's with no drinks (although we did pay extra for things that probably should have come automatically with the platters, like jalapeno crema and a $6 side of grilled onions). Also, even though there is no real service, there is an automatic 22% service charge, and the automatic menu on the checkout screen tries to guilt you into paying even more with tips. We went because my credit card perks include a credit at a group of restaurants that includes Westward. I would definitely be open to going back to use the credit in the future--there aren't many places that the credit can be used at, and the food really is great. But the prices really do feel crazy for what you get, especially the 22% service charge when you do everything yourself. Because of the prices, I would not come unless it was essentially a free meal via my credit card. read more

An amazing date night! So for those of you who do not know, Westward is one of the amazing restaurants in the family created by award winning chef Renee Erickson. (Personally i've made it my goal to visit them all, because they never disappoint) Here you'll find waterfront dining located on Lake Union with cozy beachside Adirondack chairs, a giant outdoor fire pit, and cheery picnic table styled dining. Perfect for a date night or dinner with friends. Obviously the menu is seafood themed with the star of the show (IMO) being the fresh, locally sourced oysters! Unless you have a choice of oysters I recommend the shuckers choice to try a variety. Also TIP *THE THAI CHILI SAUCE ON THE OYSTERS IS A GAME CHANGER* We tried a bit of everything (dont judge): hehe CHICKPEA FRITTERS: DELICIOUS moist creamy interior with a crispy outside. 10/10 DILL DIP: Very tart. I personally wasn't a fan, but the server graciously traded it out for the SPICY CLAM DIP which was 10/10 SEARED HALIBUT: ABSOLUTELY Devine 10/10 BEN'S BREAD: *SALTY* but delicious 8/10 And finally. Had a reservation and arrived early so asked if they had any earlier openings. Hostess said yes and then disappeared for 15 minutes. She then seated us and asked "sparkling or still"? We said tap. She didn't return. Server arrived 10 minutes later and she asked "sparking or still"? I told her tap and stated I had said the same to the hostess but she never returned with water. Ordered rockfish sandwich. Nothing special. Server asked if we wanted ketchup and mentioned they had two kinds. We said fine and received about 2 tablespoons of each type...and this isn't an exaggeration. Then bill comes. Ketchup (Heinz) is $1.00 and house ketchup is $3.00. Server never mentioned there was a charge for ketchup and the up charge isn't listed on their menu. I mentioned to the server and said she needs to disclose. She just shrugged her shoulders. If there wasn't an automatic mandatory 22% gratuity charged I would have taken the $4.00 out of her tip. Service was very slow and why rush? They're automatically receiving 22%. Who charges for ketchup and if you charge for condiments you need to disclose as this isn't "normal". The upcharge tactic began at "sparkling or still". Be forewarned. We won't be back. I'll be honest: Westward has usually been a pretty underwhelming food experience - quite expensive, decent but unremarkable dishes, and a great view. It's the kind of place you go more for the lakefront vibes than for the meal itself. Shut Up Bobby's is a completely different story. It's a no-frills, inexpensive, get-your-hands-dirty pop-up with absolutely phenomenal chicken - smoky, tangy, spicy, and perfectly cooked. Not a hint of dryness; just melt-in-your-mouth juicy. You can build it like a taco with the tortilla, rice, beans, and salsa. Both salsas are great and complement each other: the mild is a smoky verde, while the hot is a tangy, pepper-forward red/orange sauce. And honestly, the chicken is so flavorful that you can happily eat it straight off the bone with nothing else. This pop-up is a completely new experience at Westward. Forget whatever expectations you had - just show up. It's absolutely worth it, and I genuinely hope Shut Up Bobby's finds a way to stick around longer, because I'd love to enjoy it year-round. read more

Westward is hands down my favorite oyster spot in Seattle. From the presentation of plates, homemade vinaigrette, and hot sauce are meticulously crafted, making each bite a delight (although neither of the sauces are needed for the oysters). The view of downtown Seattle and Lake Union from the patio adds to the experience, and the diverse menu never disappoints--I've celebrated many occasions here. The only drawback is the pricing; a small ramekin of hot sauce costs $4, which feels a bit excessive. Still, Westward's quality and ambiance make it a standout dining experience. read more

Westward is a perfect depiction of enjoying a water front restaurant in the middle of summer and having a cocktail and drinks. The ambiance, environment and views are amazing. They even have an outside bar which offers a limited menu to pull up and enjoy some oysters have a cocktail and enjoy the south lake union views. On this night, we got a table inside and started off with a cocktail which was amazing. It took some for the server to come but it was okay, we were enjoying the view. We then ordered 6 oysters, some baked oysters, the asparagus, and halibut. The oysters were good, however the baked oysters were amazing. I enjoy cocktail sauce and Tabasco sauce on my oysters they don't offer Tabasco they make their own hot sauce which is okay. The baked oysters were perfection. The asparagus came out with a chili crème sauce which was fantastic. My partner loved loved the halibut which was perfectly cooked. When the bill came they had already added a 22% gratuity charge which seemed a bit high. My overall recommendation would be come to westward for a drink and the oysters but we aware because it can be a bit overpriced. read more

We visited Westward to enjoy a nice sunny day, but unfortunately, the experience was really disappointing. Our hostess was friendly when we arrived, but after that, things went downhill quickly. The service was honestly some of the worst we've experienced. After I asked a few questions about portion sizes and some of the dishes, the young male server started to seem annoyed. Instead of being helpful, he made a sarcastic comment along the lines of, "You have, like, so many questions," which made me feel uncomfortable for simply trying to understand the menu. On top of that, he often didn't have answers to basic questions and didn't seem familiar with the menu at all. When I asked about the price of a single Mimosa (since the menu only listed bottle prices), he said he didn't know. I had to suggest that he could go check and we'd order once he found out. He seemed annoyed even going to find out. Eventually, a different female server (30s, dark brown hair) came over, but she wasn't friendly either. She finally told me the Mimosa price, but when I asked about the driest white wine, she simply pointed at one. When I asked about the others, she replied, "I don't know, I haven't tried them," but in a very snarky, dismissive way. From that point on, we felt very uncomfortable. Every interaction after that felt cold, short, and like we were being looked down on for simply asking questions. Other tables who had just sat down were already getting drinks and food, while we continued to wait. My Mimosa didn't even arrive until I was already halfway through my meal, and only after my husband had to flag down the young male server to ask if they could finally bring it. The whole experience was frustrating and uncomfortable. And then, on top of that, we were automatically charged 22% gratuity, which I normally have no problem paying for good service, but this time, it honestly felt awful paying that after how we were treated. We planned a date night, got a babysitter, took an uber. Upon arrival there's no host. The group in front of us looks irritated. After waiting a while and seeing no one, they go into the restaurant and grab a server and request to be seated. By now there's 2-3 more parties behind us also waiting to be seated. We get seated and offered water and then we wait and wait and wait. We see no servers working the indoor seating area. While waiting, we notice a couple seated before us waiting to order and another trying to find a server to get their check. The kitchen staff don't appear busy and are mostly standing around, probably because there seems to be no servers to put food orders in. A large group gets seated next to us and is also ignored. They start to get irritated as well so someone behind the bar notices and brings them bread. We continue to be ignored as does everyone else around us. After waiting 20 minutes, we go up to the bar and ask if we can sit there since there's no servers in the dining room and there's two people working behind the bar. We're told they'd have to ask if we can move seats. No apology, acknowledgement, or explanation for why we've been ignored. At this point it seems like this is going to be a terrible experience so we decide to leave. The table next to us says "good for you" as we leave. We exit with the couple who had been trying to get their check. They tell us the service was horrible and servers were non existent. They had a hard time finding someone to give the their check and then they were charged for multiple things they didn't order. I've never walked out of a restaurant before, but this was by far the worst experience I've ever had and it seems everyone else there had an equally terrible experience. The oysters were good and wine selection varied. The menu looked like it had a lot of variety and ditto for the cocktails. It just felt extremely expensive for what you get. For me that was 6 oysters, no bread, an okay dessert (huckleberry panacotta) and what felt like a short pour of wine compared to what I saw others being served. And still $70. I was given a Sea Creatures gift card so a friend and I decided to try Westward! We are not huge seafood eaters so we were ready to explore. I made a 7:30 reservation on a Saturday, it wasn't too crowded but it was a tad chilly so we wanted to be sure we got an indoor seat, though there were plenty of people sitting outdoors, which looked very comfortable. The host was extremely nice, gave us a more comfortable seat, moved the table so we wouldn't be in the way of other tables around us, so already the service was great. When our waitress came to take our orders, she explained the different flavors of their oyster list, and answered any of our other questions thoroughly. We decided to order 3 raw oysters from the more salty selections, the spicy clam dip, the Yukon potato's, and the steak and the halibut. We got the spicy calm dip first and it was absolutely delicious. We were also given housemate potato chips that were adequately salted and very crunchy, so again. Delicious. We ended up getting more chips due to how much we enjoyed them! The oysters were then served, and they were all great. The halibut and steak and potatoes came out (which we got with a garlic aioli). All were delicious, but the stand out to me was the crispy artichoke that came out with the halibut! But everything was cooked well, flavored and appropriately salted. Came here for a very special birthday celebration, and we were extremely disappointed: 1. Spent $40 for 5 prawns that came in the shell- so the spices and sauce were on the shell and we had to remove the shell, so all you get is shrimp for $8 each. 2. Spent $$$$ on salmon that was filled with bones - not a pleasant experience at all. 3. No complimentary bread ? Pay $8 for it? Pay $4 for cocktail sauce with the oysters which is usually complimentary? 4. They charged my card to the wrong table. I had to notice and point it out. 5. Service was bad/lacking: we were rarely checked in on and had servers switch on us halfway through the meal. 6. Would be 1 star, but the ambiance was cute and my date was beautiful. The view is incredible, which makes it even more frustrating that the food consistently misses the mark. But what's truly mind-boggling is the service. The last two times we've been, the servers carried this entitled, arrogant attitude -- which is just a nicer way of saying they were rude and terrible at their jobs.
