After Alex moved his spot, me and my daughter decided to visit. My daughter decided to get a butterfly cut with curtain bangs. When we looked up pictures for Alex to look at, it looked very hard to cut the hair to look exactly like that. When we went into the shop, he nicely greeted us and we went in his room. I'm typically pretty picky about how I like my hair cut, styled etc, but Alex exceeded my expectations. Firstly, he squeezed me for this appointment when I spontaneously decided I was going to commit to dying my hair. For a balayage color, cut and style, he did a fabulous job for my first-time doing balayage and was extremely detailed. He found my white hairs and dyed them black first before proceeding with balayage. Secondly, his hair dye didn't smell super toxic, likely not infused with a crap ton of crazy chemicals!! I Would recommend paying cash to help out the small business owners. At the end, he even threw in a free keratin hair shampoo! What service! The cut/style he gave me is easy to blow dry, style and take care of. In fact, I just have to brush it and allow it to air dry. He gave me such a nice shape, it looks great without any effort. A huge plus for saving time. This is seriously the best haircut I have had in ~ 15 yrs. He takes his time, he is very precise. I called in to schedule an appointment for a hair cut. He asked if we could move the appointment up to 10:00am, which is when they open. He said he had another appointment close to 10:30 so I said ok. I went into the appointment at 9:55 and noticed he already had another client in the chair.. Super confused because I thought they opened at 10:00am and I was his 1st appointment.. As I was standing for 10 minutes I got the attention of one of the other Stylists, I told him I had an appointment with Alex. He pointed to him.. Then I asked him if I should just wait, he said yes wait. So I waited for a total of 45 minutes, he never came up to me to ask me to wait or to apologize for double booking my appointment. I came in to see Alex because the balayage highlights in my normally black hair had grown increasingly yellow and brassy. Also, my hair was incredibly dry, damaged, and frizzy. I came in only having a vague idea of what I wanted, and Alex worked with me to figure out what I needed to do in order to get the healthy, darker mane I wanted back. This is my first Yelp review; I loved the experience enough to write one. Called the number and came in as a walk in, Alex was very quick to respond. Only had to show two photos, a very short explanation of what I wanted, and he immediately knew what I wanted. I asked for curtain bangs, short layers in the back, face framing layers, and a much shorter length of my hair. Great customer service as well, very polite. Went above and beyond to make my hair look perfect. I've never had my hair cut this short before so I was pretty nervous. Nevertheless, he made it look amazing. Styled it beautifully after the cut. I got a same-day haircut and LOVE it. Just wanted a quick trim and I was in and out of there in less than an hour. It's a no-frills place quick hair wash, cut, and blow-dry with a little bit of styling towards the end. Honestly, for $50 this was better than my $95+ haircuts at other Japanese salons in OC. I would have given a five-star review if the hair washing came with a little bit more scrubbing on my scalp. I didn't expect a scalp massage for the price but that would've made it perfect. Response to comment: Apparently Alex thinks this is a communication issue. My Korean is fluent! If you don't speak Korean and need a translator DO NOT go to Alex because he won't understand your needs. I showed him a picture. He gave me a price. And did not follow through. Maybe next time tell me that you can't do it BEFORE you start. He told me this is a hard color to achieve AFTER I gave him a chance to redo my hair. I will not go back to him for another chance. He damaged my hair!!! AND he did not charge me $300. He tried to charge me over $500 (screenshot of this happening to another customer) but I showed him the text of $150 so he accepted $300 as if he thought that was fair for a color I did not even want!!! In his response he says he is "willing" to do another redo service. Sorry! I am not willing to let you work on my hair again. I don't even need a refund anymore. Keep the money! Sometimes it's best to say "Sorry I messed up" rather than trying to justify in every way possible. I still have not received an apology except that you are sorry that I am writing. Now you care? You claim now that you told me it would take two times to achieve the hair I wanted, but even after the redo it wasn't close to anything that I had asked for and if anything it made my hair more dry and damaged. You say that I was happy with the redo? I'm telling you that I was not happy. I even told you that this was not what I was asking for. That's when you told me that the color in the picture was hard to achieve. Like I said...next time just tell your client that you don't have the color expertise. Stop telling me that you told me something and I didn't understand. You told me to pay you because I would see the color after a few washes. Well, that never happened. This was a nightmare experience and one that I need to live with until I save up again to get my hair fixed. I am reminded of it every time I look in the mirror. Review: I texted Alex wanting some highlights. I just wanted to leave my roots dark, but he ended up bleaching my whole head when the picture I showed him had dark roots. Now my roots are colored dark but the dye has washed out so my baby hairs are bleached blonde. So many things went wrong with this experience. Alex confirmed twice that the price would be $150 but he wanted to charge $500 at checkout. I was so upset and told him about the text and he said "I'm usually working when I'm texting back don't hold me to that text." Then I checked the main Mobe Studio yelp page and I see that several other people have been complaining about this exact issue. He told me that it was $150 per color he used on my hair. I never asked for him to bleach my dark roots blonde then to color over it with dark dye again. So the first time I walk out with gray hair and after two washes it turns platinum blonde. This is NOT what I asked for. I also have streaks and patches of random dyed spots in my hair. I text Alex and show him the picture of my hair and he tells me that I can go see him again. We book a Saturday appointment one week in advance and he even changes the time a few days ahead. That's fine. Until the day of my redo appt he texts me as I'm parking (2 minutes before our appt time) asking if he can cancel. I call him to see what's wrong and he tells me that I'm a redo so he isn't making any money off of me but he has a customer willing to pay. Could I go during a weekday? He shouldn't have booked the appt in the first place then. I tell him it's very difficult and costly for me to arrange babysitting for 3 kids (I'm also paying extra because I needed a redo) and then he asks how much babysitting is as if he'd rather reimburse me than to take care of my hair. WTH??? I'm furious! I park my car and walk up to talk to him and he says he will fix it now. So after the redo I see that it still isn't what I was asking for. I ask him what happened and he tells me now that the picture I'm showing him that is difficult to achieve. He didn't tell me that when before he even touched my hair. I would've found someone else. He just made my hair darker the second time around temporarily to send me home, but this all washed out in two weeks too. So I'm back to that nasty blonde that I never wanted. I then text him back a few weeks ago requesting for a refund but he tells me he got in a car accident. I do feel bad but I did pass his salon eating lunch the other day and I see that he is still well enough to work. But obviously too hurt to text me back regarding the refund. At this point I just want to warn everyone else. His cuts are decent. But, for anything more than a standard haircut...I'd say find another stylist. His coloring is so bad! Everyone I see asks me "What happened to your hair? Is that what you wanted?" Of course not! Who would pay for this???? I will post pictures later. I went to get a trim for my damaged hair and ended up dying my hair into blue black. My hair got so soft and shiny after the coloring despite my concern of getting it even more damaged. I was worried that black would fade out easily due to the condition of my hair. It's been about a month and my hair is in a very healthy condition and the color hasn't faded much.
