Wow. I have no idea why I have been waiting to go here for so long. Just got back from Sunday Brunch and everything was beyond great. The interior spaces are all fantastic, even leading up to the washrooms where you can take a peek down into the beautiful looking private / minimum buy room downstairs. Our table split: Bread Pudding French Toast Cinnamon Roll Gamble Sandwich Southwest Steak and Egg Cassoulet This is going to be dangerous, because there was so much more on the menu we wanted to try, but after having these, we can't imagine ordering anything else because of how tasty each item was. The steak on the cassoulet definitely will bring us back at night to try the dinner menu. Even the coffee!! Yum. But the greatest asset has got to be the staff. This review will sound like a plant from within, but I assure you I am just a normal restaurant goer. Our server Nikki is the favorite server I ever remember having from the first time. Perfect balance of attentiveness, knowledge, friendliness, and personality, and it almost seems rare to get service that great nowadays. It just stands out so well. But as our experience progressed, we noticed how friendly and team oriented the entire staff seem to be. Everyone seemed legitimately happy working there even when we left, you could tell the people at the bar and the front desk are genuine in their well wishes. It truly seems like a concerted effort has been made to have the perfect balance of choosing the right people on the team and giving them adequate training. We haven't had such a fantastic experience in a restaurant in so long, I forgot what it feels like. We were promptly seated by the hostess, and she was friendly. Our waitress was great and was very polite and attentive. I'll never get tired of having a refill for my drink set down in front of me before I have to ask. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and we enjoyed the decor. I was glad we were almost finished when they sat a couple at the table next to ours, because it is a little close and you're right in each other's conversation. I got the salmon bruschetta to start, and it was so good. Everything tasted so fresh, and the flavors blend beautifully. My girlfriend got the French onion soup, and that looked amazing. She said it tasted really good. We both ordered the filet mignon, and she wanted hers medium rare, and I wanted mine cooked medium. While both steaks were excellent, neither one was cooked as requested, and both were pretty rare. I'm going to let that slide, since everything else was so good. The smoked Gouda Mac and cheese is so damn good, I want the recipe. It's very creamy and delicious. The Brussels sprouts with bacon were excellent and I could eat a bowl of just that. Once again, Ivory House nails it to perfection. We celebrated my father-in-law's 88th birthday this past Tuesday night. The restaurant was HOPPING. It was packed and on a Tuesday night? That's downright impressive. It took a bit of time for our server to get to us and get things going, which is completely understandable given how busy it was. But in the end, it did not matter. Our drinks were terrific they have a very good house wine selection, but their wine menu by the glass also offers excellent variety. But what really stood out? The food. It was out of this world. After Ivory House did open, I anxiously awaited a special occasion that would warrant my patronizing this establishment. That occasion finally came about celebrating my Mother's Birthday. Because of already being aware of what the up and coming restaurant's exterior renovation looked like, I anxiously awaited to see what the interior looked like. Upon walking in Ivory House the first time to celebrate my Mother's Birthday, the first impression was not what was anticipated. The first thing noticed was the lack of ambiance: The restaurant was too brightly lit. Bar tables too close to the entry. Piano too load, and music selection should have been more conducive to dining; all that was played was jazz. Noise level too loud to allow for an ambient dining experience; even making it somewhat difficult to hold a conversation with the table party, and server. SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT!!!!!! We started our pre-meal with beverage and appetizer service, consistently of wine, and a cocktail; both the wine and cocktail were delicious, as ordered. The ordered appetizers were crab cakes, tomato bruschetta, and pimento bruschetta. The crab cakes were good, the pimento bruschetta was very tasty but the tomato bruschetta was lacking in taste. I just found out about this place recently, and definitely consider this a bit of a gem. I read some reviews beforehand that mentioned the area is a bit sketchy, and there is some truth to that. The alley walk from their parking lot to the front of the building is bit sketchy indeed, lol. Also, I wouldn't recommend their patio seating. It's detached from the building, has a completely different vibe, and their view? The main road and a Goodwill to the left. Definitely doesn't fit the vibe of the rest of the place. So, let's move to the positives - which are aplenty. Once we got inside, we were immediately greeted by both the host and the bartender, both dressed well for the occasion. Once you pass the bar, you walk by a beautiful white grand piano playing house tunes (at least on this night). Great decor, gold utensils, white table cloths, just great set up all the way around. The service was great. Our waiter Fernando was informative, attentive, and friendly, while not too overbearing. He explained some of the menu options, including their Tuesday Special. Listen, if you come to this place just to test it out, or come for only one reason, come for their Tuesday Special. 34 oz. Tomahawk Steak, sliced off the bone for you, seasoned very well. Two sides (we got asparagus and fingerling potatoes, both of which were delicious), salads, and a dessert for $99. Incredible deal. The steak alone is typically listed at $115 there. We also ordered mussels which were pretty good, and a couple glasses of wine, of which they had a great variety. First off, wow. You have to eat here. I'm a total foodie and this was a foodie heaven. The menu is crafted to perfection. The flavors compliment each other down to the last detail. Such a cool place in such a random ratchet location! Beautiful on the inside and out. The decor has such exquisite touches, like fresh white tablecloths and gold silverware. Not many restaurants, even high ends ones, do that anymore. It made me feel fancy! I have been here twice and the service and food have been excellent each time. Husband couldn't make it so I brought take out for him and he raved about the steak and sides and mind you this was after a 30 minute drive home and reheating in the oven. My mom took half of hers him and had it for dinner the next night and said it was just as great. We came here for brunch on a Sunday - reservations for three at 10 am. The ambiance was beautiful and every staff member was kind and attentive. Piano music played in the background. They had $5 Bloody Marys. I'm not sure if that's typical for brunch, but it was a deal. I didn't have one, but Mark did. He didn't rave about it nor did he complain. It must have been okay, though it looked beautiful. He did not have a second. Our friend ordered the Westwood Homestead. She ordered it with goetta. It was the most gorgeous piece of goetta I've seen in my life! Rounded out with eggs, fingerling potatoes and toast, it was a simple, but tasty meal. I ordered the Tempeh Veggie Hash Cassoulet. The sauce on top wasn't described in the description on the menu. It has a strong flavor, maybe slightly sour, when eaten with the first bite, but somewhat large fingerling potatoes required I cut them up and mix everything together. Once mixed in, the sauce added just the right amount of flavor to the overall dish. The veggie format kept it from being too filling. It was good. Mark had the Chicken Bacon Ranch Cassoulet. He said it was good and he cleaned his plate. I would definitely consider coming back and giving Ivory House a try for dinner. read more

My daughter picked this place to celebrate her birthday and none of us had ever been and we weren't disappointed! First off the ambiance is perfect. They had a piano playing in the background, it wasn't too loud or too quiet I felt it was perfect. The food was top quality!! We received fresh Rosemary bread after we ordered and it was so good. Never had it before but it was amazing!! Me and my son-in-law got the the 14 oz New York Strip, my daughter got the 6 oz Filet and my husband got the Wagyu special they had. It was only 6 oz, hence why I got a bigger steak because I knew he would want more steak and could have mine. We had never had Wagyu but it was as good as the hype for sure! Everyone's steak was cooked perfectly the way they requested. You get 2 sides with your dinner and you could upgrade to a premium side. A salad couldn't be a side unless a big upcharge which I was disappointed in. We did get the Gouda Mac and Cheese for a side for the table and it was great! All the sides were good I just felt the Asparagus could have been a little better. My husbands special was a 3 course so he got a dessert which was a cinnamon roll with bananas foster gelato for dessert and it was great! They also gave my daughter a flight of 3 different ice creams for her birthday. We were so full from dinner we couldn't eat all the dessert but it was good! The server was good and attentive. We were there over 2 hours for a dinner which surprised us when we were leaving there was quite a bit of time between bread, salad, entree and dessert so I guess things took time but we were enjoying each others company so it didn't bother us. If you haven't been here before, get down here as soon as possible. I am super impressed with this restaurant. You might wonder about the meaning behind the name. It's a nod to the founder of Procter & Gamble's son, James Gamble, who was the last mayor of Westwood when it was it's own city. Of course, P & G invented Ivory Soap, so that's the tie-in. Found Ivory House on a list of really good restaurants to try and am I glad. Went there with another couple for lunch, and everything was delicious. Their motto is "Familiar Food, Elevated". It's beautiful on the outside with outdoor seating and gorgeously vibrantly flower-filled planters. Inside is quietly elegant without being fussy with the navy blue surrounding the space and accents of gold. Gold flatware on the table and even the tops of the salt and pepper shakers were gold. With these details, there is a very polished yet comfortable ambience. There is a special everyday and today it was tacos. What a great deal! I opted for the Blue Fin Tuna Shareable with added ingredients of peach, beets, black garlic, miso hummus and grilled naan. It was an artful presentation, as well as tasting amazing. Everyone else greatly enjoyed their tacos. Afterwards, we ordered the Peach Pandowdy for dessert while our friends enjoyed uniquely flavored ice-creams -yum! Not only were we greeted warmly by everyone, but were thanked for coming in, too. This place does wine tastings and wine dinners to include a 5 or 6 course gourmet meal paired with various wines. It sounds like these are done approximately on alternate months. Can't wait. We already plan to go back for dinner, weekend brunch and the wine events. Was excited to try Ivory House after a friend visited here last week. Good to see a place setting up shop in Westwood. 3 Stars is weighted against the price point - at the menu prices they are going up against the likes of Jeff Ruby's and unfortunately the service and food just isn't up to the same standard. Ambiance: The restaurant is gorgeous. Decor and furnishings are great looking. Service: Service was good. Attentive and consistent but not stellar. Again at the price point it should be better. One minor quibble is that when we have reserved online at Ruby's, Jags, Nicolas and noted what were celebrating (this was a birthday) they have always acknowledged that when dining and added a special touch. No such thing here. Food: We ordered the Wagyu Smoked Carpaccio, Miso Hummus and French onion soup as appetizers. The carpaccio was great. Hummus and soup good. My son had the Wagyu sliders and liked them - I did not get to try them but as a 6 yr old he gave two thumbs up. My wife had the steak Diane ($56) and I had the bone in ribeye ($79 on menu but for some reason was $90 on the receipt). The steak Diane looked more like a beef pot roast. Too much sauce (which was too salty) and the presentation was just bad. My ribeye was cooked to order and perfectly fine. The sides though, mac&cheese and brusselssprouts were let downs. The mac&cheese was either undercooked or overcooked (dried out when baked) and the brusselsprouts were definately overcooked (charred and soft). They were also quite salty. Last but not least we ended up having two desserts. Carrot cake to go, and triple layer chocolate mousse cake to have there. The carrot cake I had today and it is good. The mousse cake though was not good - it seems like it had been frozen and an attempt to thaw it had been made but it needed to thaw further. So anything that should have been 'mousse' was just really hard chocolate. At $14 it was a real let down. Conclusion: Total for meal with two cocktails was $261. Again at that price point I would skip Ivory House and go to any of the Jeff Ruby restaurants, Jags or the like. Too many better options. Some tweaks here and there would go a long way. Glad we tried Ivory House and hope they can make some improvements to justify the $$$$. read more

Great service aways. Great happy hour menu. Small bar, but they get it done. It's a whisky and wine place. Not a huge selection of beer, but its not a beer joint. The spicy margarita is my fav. Two things that outshine the rest of the amazing menu. 1) The tomahawk pork chop. The glaze is one of the best I have ever had. Perfectly cooked (I have had it 3 times now). 2) The creamed corn. Nothing like the stuff in a can. Last time I was there I got 2 sides. I both were creamed corn. If I could only get one thing here it would be their corn.. well maybe the carrot cake..or the bread. Sorry... get the corn you will not be disappointed!! It's a $50 to 75 average a plate kind of place and we can only afford to go to dinner here on special occasions, but anyone can afford the happy hour and I suggest you do. This has to be one of the nicest restaurants on the west side. Very clean, well thought out design and and food was extremely good. They take your temp as you walk in the door and setup dividers between tables for COVID. We felt very safe and relaxed eating inside. The menu might cause a little sticker shock to the average west side resident, but its a chef prepared meal and worth paying extra for an amazing meal IMO. Plenty of free parking behind the restaurant with easy access to the outdoor patio or main entrance. It's a large interior that can seat a large crowd comfortably. We both highly recommend this restaurant for a special night out or weekend brunch. It's also within easy walking distance to the Westside Brewery and Nation Westwood, which is another great place to eat. Park and check out to all 3 for a fun night out. read more

It is a very elegant brunch spot and had a live piano music. We got the salmon BLT and the Wagyu burger. ( and $5 mimosas Sunday brunch!) We split both of them so we could try variety. The salmon BLT was so flavorful and delicious. the Wagyu burger was one of the best burgers that I personally ever had and that says a lot since I live 25 years in Chicago. The salmon was the absolute best crusted salmon I have ever had, filet was very good and charred asparagus was fresh and flavorful. For dessert the chocolate torte was great and could be shared. Blueberry buckle was good but couldn't be shared and lacked the strudel topping. Finally we had French press coffee with amazing flavor.
