My friends and I went here for The Set, an R&B party that we all enjoyed! The party did not start til 10p that night and to start with parking, there is a garage locally that you can park at. It costs $40 for a flat rate and that was that; the walk in took maybe 4 minutes. FOOD POISONING !!! do not eat here . I hate having to leave a review like this, but I feel it's important to share my experience. On July 2, around 3:00 p.m., a friend and I visited this restaurant for lunch. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich without the bun, and it came with a side of fries. Everything seemed normal at the time, but later that day I became extremely ill. I have since been diagnosed with food poisoning, and more than 48 hours later I am still dealing with the symptoms. Based on the timing of my illness and my medical evaluation, I believe this meal was the source of my food poisoning. This experience has been physically exhausting and has completely changed my confidence in eating here. Food safety should always be a top priority, and unfortunately my experience has left me very concerned. I sincerely hope the restaurant reviews its food handling and preparation practices so no one else has to go through what I've experienced. We went this weekend for a friend's birthday and had a great time! The food (cajun oysters, clam chowder, and omelette) was delicious! But the service was the standout! Peter, the manager, was warm and welcoming, and our server, Josue, was PHENOMENAL!! We had a large group and he was incredibly patient and accommodating, and has the warmest energy! The location of this restaurant seems a bit random, and at first, I couldn't tell if I actually pulled up at the right spot. When you get inside, you go upstairs and there's an outdoor patio area but then the inside looks a traditional sports bar. There was a game going on when I arrived, but they cut it off at a midpoint, and played Dominican music for the majority of the night. I'd say the music and the aesthetic of the restaurant seemed really mismatched. I ordered the char-grilled shrimp with rice and broccoli. The meal was quite delicious. They were generous with the amount of shrimp on the plate and I enjoyed the medley of vegetables on my plate in addition to the broccoli. My friend had the crab cakes with a side of roasted potatoes and spinach. She seemed to enjoy her meal. The Tavern at Ivy City Smokehouse is one of the District of Columbia's best seafood restaurants and social scene. I'm sure that Republicans are welcome but the tavern is a Democratic club house, frequented by both federal and D.C. government employees. Happy hours here may catch an earful of politics with guests at the bar singing the blues about this administration and what they like and dislike. This is a very special place unlike any I've been to in the USA. The restaurant is on the second floor over a massive smokehouse factory where smoked fish is produced commercially. If you're lucky and there for lunch you might get to se and smell the hickory and apewood burning and see the clouds of smoke pour into the Ivy City skyline. The staff here are outstanding. Most front and back of house employees have been with the company since they first opened and all deliver great service. Their menu is straight to the point. They specialize in seafood but have plenty of other options including stea, brisket, chicken, gluten free and vegan, as well as a kids menu. This restaurant is a Michelin Guide Gourmand Bib award recipient every year since 2018, so if you complain about food here, you're in the wrong restaurant for your tastes. However the food the served seemed more upscale based on the price. The food was fine nothing amazing. I had a crab cake & my partner had the steak. The crabcake was good but I've had others similar in quality the same price. And my partner wasn't the biggest fan of the steak since it was there was too much char & he couldn't taste the steak. Decided to visit on a Saturday evening and it was a packed house with the Ravens game showing! The multiple screens made it easy to watch the game at every seat at the table. Also, even with it being it packed the staff was very attentive and friendly. We all decided to try the restaurant week menu. I was surprised that a majority of there options were seafood or had seafood in it. But honestly I am happy they did because the Branzino was the best dish we had. Everything else was a bit disappointing. We started with salads. The mixed green salad standard and the dressing had a great flavor but the amount of dressing was a little too much for my liking. It would have been more enjoyable if the dressing was on the side and I could manage the salad to dressing ratio. For our entrees we tried the ribs, smash burger and Branzino. The ribs were the most disappointing because I was expecting exceptional ribs from a smokehouse but these weren't my favorite. They weren't flavorful and while the bbq sauce helped, it was vinegar based and unfortunately the only bbq sauce they offer. The smash burger was okay. The best part was the bacon. The size of the patties along with the other things in the sandwich made it more of a slide burger than smash burger. Saving the best for last, we have the Branzino. I was most surprised by how good the Branzino was prepared because we ordered it reluctantly. The flavors were throughout and the fish was light and juicy. It a was served with rice and vegetables. Unfortunately, the rice was very buttery and the vegetables were too salty. I normally would have cared but the Branzino made up for the rest of the dish. We ended the experience with their cheesecake. It was really delicious! Overall, it was an okay experience. read more

This one...not so much. We went last night for a late dinner. Ordered calamari which came out burned to a crisp! And honestly I thought didn't this happen the last time? I didn't put it in my last review but I swear it happened here before. Now previously our server was great. Last night the server was just mid. He never asked if we wanted anything to drink other than the water he brought. Which was fine. Everyone needs more water. He brought out the bowl of burned calamari with no appetizer plates at all. We had to ask for those. And still never asked if we wanted someone other than water like soda or cocktail nothing. I couldn't eat the calamari. The tentacle pieces were almost black. LOL. My smash burger was good but there was some really hard piece of plastic or shell or something in my fries. I had eaten most until bit down on whatever it was. Hubs salmon was good but the server just wasn't. Perhaps he was having a bad night. The place wasn't busy at all. But for these restaurants to now charge these EXTRA service fees, 5%, it would be nice to have just basic level decent service. Ivy City Smokehouse is beside City Winery. There is a small market downstairs that sells fresh seafood. The restaurant is upstairs (yay they have an elevator). The outside patio is nice. There is an event room with a stage. I bet this place is packed when the weather is warm. The closest metro is about 11/2 miles away. There is a bus stop about three blocks away. Free parking is available across the street, on the same block. That fills up quickly after 4:30pm. Pay attention to parking signs. One side of the street has paid parking spots. Parking enforcement is diligent. The parking garage is half a block away. The menu includes seafood and meat dishes. They also have pizza and lots of sides. The side portions are giant. The tip was already included on my receipt. In the evening, be aware of your surroundings. read more

A friend and I decided to stop in and we're pleasantly surprised by the lounge, ambience and delicious bites. I will say, I wish I knew they had an elevator as all of those steps took my breath away... But again the food was delicious. We sat at the bar and our service was spectacular. Our bartender made sure that we were well taken care of Decided to get the Rockefeller oysters and a wedge salad with salmon. The oysters came with that delicious buttery bread, and we definitely ordered more of that bread. #Carbs. The salad was definitely fresh and stellar. The salmon was extra and not necessarily needed but it did add extra protein and flavor to the lettuce. I love the fresh chunky blue cheese bit as well. The drinks could be a little stronger, however, they are delicious. But if you like to taste your alcohol, I definitely recommend just drinking straight. I will say everything was delicious. I ordered the chowder, the ribs and the cheese cake all had perfect seasoning and excellent quality. My friend ordered the Bronzino which was cooked perfectly. our friends were having ouri birthday dinner there and sent over a smoke fish board that was to die for. I know my smoke fishes, and these were smoked to perfection. One more thing you need to valet, at $20 but that's the going rate for the area. I've been here twice. I will be back. Food: They mark their menu for gluten-free (GF) and there are many options. I had half-rack of ribs both times with fries and slaw. So good! Ask the kitchen to fully separate each rib. The first time that I went I went through several knives to separate the ribs. Atmosphere: Casual. This place is spacious. Although I made a reservation both times, there were empty tables (not sure that there was staff to cover all of the empty tables). Both times, the weather wasn't nice enough to sit outside in open patio. Service: Prompt and courteous. No nonsense. Caveats: If you don't pay with cash, they charge a 3% fee. But, the food...that's another story! I ordered the fried shrimp Po'boy and I can tell you that the seafood here is not fresh, this sandwich was horrible!!!! Other members of my party complained about the lack of flavor and freshness in their shrimp meals as well. But, other members had the brisket and they raved about it. Maybe I'll give that a try on my next visit. Overall the music was excellent! The service was excellent! The drinks were excellent! My food, not so much! I think I enjoyed the shoe string fries the most and struggled to eat the sandwich. I literally poured sauces on it and still nothing! We came to this establishment because they were having an R&B event which was $20. They do have security at the door to check your ID and bags. We were a bit early so when we arrived we went over to the bar and grab a shot . The bartenders were nice and made a few suggestions. This locations has about 3 different bars one in the main area where you can sit down and eat, one outside on the patio, and another inside where the live DJ is located. We sat outside for a while but it was too hot . So we went into the main area and sat at the bar again the bartender was nice, suggested a few drinks. We ordered a dozen steamed shrimp which were so good . Had conversations with those around us and enjoyed our drinks while we waited for others to arrive. About an hour later the place was beginning to become packed outside and in the open space they have designated for you to party. The music was excellent, the security did check for your wristband to make sure you were of age since this place has two sides.
