Overall, I was happy with the moving service. I used Ivy Movers to move my stuff from one University City one-bedroom apartment to another. The movers were very efficient and careful, and finished everything in almost exactly three hours, even though we had some issues unpacking at my new apartment due to needing to share elevator space. The one downside, which was extremely frustrating, is that the movers are very uncommunicative prior to the move. They only responded to every other email, gave me no instructions about packing my stuff (and paying in cash), and didn't give me a day-of contact number, even though I emailed them about it repeatedly. The movers also showed up thirty minutes late with no advance notice, which got me a bit edgy. But my stuff got moved, and they didn't charge me for the overtime minutes. I had a really good experience with these guys. It seemed a little sketchy at first -- their website is fairly minimal and they prefer e-mail communication. But I was moving 1200 miles with too much stuff to haul on my own, and when I emailed them the date of my move to inquire about availability they e-mailed right back with not a flat rate for the whole job that was significantly lower than estimates I had been getting from other firms, both local and national, so I decided to give them a shot. On moving day they showed up with the truck about an hour late, but that seems to be about par for the course for most movers. When they showed up they were personable but no-nonsense, moved all my stuff into the truck efficiently and without problems. On the other end they unloaded just as well, and none of my furniture or glassware was broken or smashed or anything. There were no hidden fees anywhere, no mishaps or miscommunications. I uses this company in the midst of a rather hectic move in which I had to find a mover in two weeks for an icy march Saturday. The two guys that came were nice, strong, and very quick. Everything was wrapped up nicely and my one bedroom was packed into a truck from a 3rd floor narrow walk up within 25 min, including my large heavy couch that took 1.5 hrs to get into my apartment. They drove responsibly and noting shifted and got my things to my new place without any breakages or damages. Paid cash on the agreed amount, really made an otherwise stressful day really chill. Onto the bad, they were easily accessible by email but their answers were short and lacking details, such as the size of the truck, furniture dollies, how many people, insurance, etc. eventually turns out it was all fine. the number that they gave was a goggle number which was never answered and they came an hour late without letting anyone of us know. I kinda expected this given the previous reviews and factored it into my expectations but just having a working number and someone who answers the phone would be super helpful. Efficient moving machines! I have a notoriously heavy marble table that one of the movers picked up like it was cardboard. They completed my moving job in about an hour and did anything I asked. My only negative is that they are not the most communicative and friendly. I think part of being a professional company means having that level of professionalism that makes customers feels comfortable, and they were so beyond silent it was a little awkward at times. Some people might prefer this trait in movers but for me it felt weird. Overall, fast workers with no damage to any of my things with fair prices. read more

They showed up ten minutes early. They moved my daughter at Penn. I am 2600 miles away. Contact worked well by email. Took a day to respond; fast efficient, reliable, they assembled her bed frame. They confirmed and booked me after I had contacted them with only three days notice. I contacted six other movers....they were all sold out or wanted weeks to months advance notice. Terrible / lack of communication which added unnecessary stress to a big move. I used them previously for a local move which was okay though the fee was higher than quoted and furniture ended up with scratches. I tried to book them again for a cross state move because I didn't have time to shop around but communication was painful from the beginning. They would take days to respond to questions. Tried calling many times to get answers to my questions over a 5 minute conversation given the very slow email correspondence. But John, the only point guy NEVER picked up. He texted once so I tried calling the number he texted from and also texted him back, no response!! I asked for a phone call in my emails but that was ignored so I never got a call. I persevered with email and eventually got enough replies to email back that I would like to go ahead and book. That's when the communication died completely! I called and left messages, sent email follow ups. I was left to scramble to find new movers less than 2 weeks before a big long distance move and of course most movers were unavailable because of the season. I guessed they could no longer deliver the service but why not just inform me instead of going silent? I will not be using them again. read more

These guys made moving so much easier! John was very communicative from the beginning and confirmed multiple times. They showed up a few minutes early and finished the move with time to spare even though I was moving into a fifth-floor apartment with no freight elevator. I had many more items than I initially told them about, but they still took care of absolutely everything, including taking apart and reassembling my bed. I second the majority of the recent reviews of Ivy Movers - curt email responses, no confirmation prior to the move, no phone call on the morning of the move despite request to do so for parking purposes, no phone call when they were running late (1/2 hour), and no apologies for being late. As anyone who has moved or is planning a move knows, it is one of the more stressful times and a little reassurance and professionalism would have been appreciated, but it was not the end of the world. The biggest problem with the lack of communication resulted in Ivy showing up with a truck that was way too small for my move and inventory - which was provided over a month in advance and in great detail, and the "largest truck possible" was specifically requested. To their credit, they made right by their mistake and were able to order a trailer to hitch to the truck so that two trips would not be necessary - I did not have to pay for the trailer rental or the additional idle time while they went to get the trailer and load it, but it made for a much longer day. However, the 3 guys were very nice and worked hard throughout the day. I think I would go with a more experienced and established moving company for my next move, especially when I upgrade my furniture throughout the years, but would recommend Ivy for smaller jobs (1-2 bedroom apartments). The price was definitely right for the quality. IF IVY IS READING THESE REVIEWS, TAKING THE DRAWERS OUT MAKES MOVING A LOT EASIER (and results in less damage to furniture and walls). Decided to hire movers 4 days before my move and these guys quoted me a flat rate from Center City to East Falls (2 guys/3 hours/truck rental). Not much communication which did concern me at first but got a text that morning and they showed up 15 minutes early. Even though they used blankets on the bigger pieces of furniture, I did notice a few small scratches so I would either provide extra protection or call out the important pieces before they start the move. I've used Ivy Student Movers for 3 different moves and every time they have been on time, fast, professional, and very affordable. Every time they have moved me in under 3 hours (usually under 2 hours - I have a one bedroom and these guys hustle when loading and unloading) for a flat rate and nothing has ever been broken during the move. They were very accommodating with the schedule, even when we had to make several changes to the date and time last minute. Both movers (Patrick and John) were VERY hardworking and strong! They did the move in half the time that I expected. They barely took any breaks, in fact I had to encourage them to sit down and drink some water. First, the company responded to my request with a fair, clear quote and stayed in contact leading up to my moving day. The actual movers were prompt, friendly and diligent. These guys were great. I was moving within the city and opted for the $285 flat rate for two movers and 3 hours of time. Three guys arrived ten minutes early and got right to work. They had no problem with my fourth floor walk up and narrow stairs; they were extremely fast and very polite. I couldn't really tell if they scratched up my walls moving out, there were already a lot of marks on them, but they were careful with my stuff. I had a large bedroom's worth of furniture and a bunch of stuff and clothes, and the entire move took 1 hour and 10 minutes. Would definitely hire them again! read more

The service I received from Ivy Movers was so substandard. I should have suspected that there was a problem when I tried to speak with the movers to confirm the details and ask questions about the specifics and instead I just received an email in return saying we got your message, cash please and we will be there. Nevertheless, I took and risk and trusted that they would stay true to their word and the price quote and I decided to go with this company. On the day of the move, they showed up over an hour late with no apology. When they arrived, they estimated far more time that I imagined professional movers would take to get packed up (another detail that could have easily be discussed by phone had they returned my calls) which made us late for the move-in at the other place causing an increase in price on my end (I had to pay for freight elevator operation on weekends). Somehow during this pack-up at the old place, the movers believed that they were finished with the moving and asked one of my friends should they leave. The friend later told me that she told them to ask me (which never happened). Apparently, they took that for a yes and headed out with all my stuff. Soon after, when I inquired as to where the movers were (as I was making sure everything was clean and out of the apartment), I was told they left and to my dismay discovered that the movers put the items headed to the trash in the middle of the sidewalk. This meant I was now responsible for moving things that I requested be moved. When we arrived at the apartment, the freight operator had left hours ago since we were then over two hours behind schedule. Like many things in Philly, the person at the front desk told me there is no way to find the person that there was no other person who could do the job and this was not an emergency to contact someone else to be able to move in. She suggested that I move the things in on one of the busiest street downtown by walking the items around the block. As I am beginning to accept this absolutely insane idea, by some act of grace, the operator is reached and returns. Nevertheless, an hour had passed. When the job is complete, the movers are now very aware of who they should speak to (although weren't clear about this when they left the first place) and tell me the total is hundreds of dollars more than discussed by email. Needless to say this was a big surprise to me given that I was quoted a flat rate and imagined that everything would and could be done in this time (in fact the extra time was due to the confusion in regards to the operator). Furthermore, this is something that again could have been discussed by phone so that there would not be assumptions or expectations incongruent with their sense of reality. Needless, to say my push-back on the price and my experience lead to further displays of shoddy business management and immature and unprofessional conduct. Without belaboring all the details of the story, I will say there is absolutely never an reason to threaten a customer. As a woman, to be threaten my man who has been dishonest and unprofessional is not dishearten but is frightening. Ladies--go with a movers who will not try to intimidate or threaten you. I read YELP reviews before booking these guys--- so the terse e-mails and a late arrival didn't throw me. These guys are the REAL DEAL!!! I booked a week in advance and they could accomodate. I took the flate rate deal--- truck plus three hours for flat rate of $285. Once they arrived, it was absolutely non-stop, CAREFUL moving of boxes (including 28 book boxes alone!) and furniture --- nothing dinged or even dented. Moved from second floor 1 bedroom into a storage unit. The entire process from start to finish took just a touch over 2 hours.
