After cuticles and filing, she asked me to pay so I wouldn't ruin my nails later. When I pressed the tip button with her watching over me, she immediately took back her iPad, said some shit in Vietnamese to her partner, & came back doing the fastest and messiest job. I had to correct her and make sure she fully painted my nails (she kept missing the top portion). I'm already paying you for this service. A tip is never mandatory nor is it your right to treat a customer lower than normal because the tip isn't to your expectation. Would not recommend coming here. Love this downtown gem! Conveniently open on Sunday (as of now) and love the color options and more importantly, customer service! I found Ivy's at the beginning of August 2017 just before my baby shower (same day booking!) Ivy responded to me immediately and was able to work with my last minute appointment. The space is cozy however the girls are so nice and do not rush you at ALL even if someone else comes in that is clearly after you! I've seen this happen twice at this nail spot and never feel like they hurry to the end of the service. Prices are incredibly fair - pedicures are awesome, even if you go one step above a standard that includes a salt or sugar scrub. Truly disappointed that I have to write this updated review, but after the treatment my loved one received this week I feel it's necessary. When I first went to Ivy I was impressed with her work ethic, she seemed to really care about her customers and went out of your way to make sure you were happy with the final result. I don't know what has changed, if it's because she got more popular due to good reviews, or if she just doesn't care anymore, but whatever it is, she needs to get it under control before she loses more clients. I'm the type of person that If I really love a place, not only am I loyal to it, but I will tell anyone who will listen that they should go there. One such person was my Mother. She's been a client of Ivy's for over a year, My Mom is loyal and time and time again she kept telling me how Ivy was hurting her when she was doing her nails, also she kept cancelling appointments or changing days, and since my Mother has appointments scheduled throughout the week this causes issues, case in point this week Ivy cancelled my Mom's Monday Appointment last minute and told her to come in on Wednesday afternoon, So my Mother went in yesterday to get her nails done and there was NO IVY. When my Mom called her on her cell, Ivy's excuse was she was at the dentist? Hello, don't you call a client and tell them you can't make it, she had all day since my Moms appointment wasn't until the late afternoon. This is my second review because my last one was a year ago and I've been going consistently since. Ivy is still the best she's always able to switch it up when I want to try new styles and they always last me without chipping or breaking. I always get acrylics sometimes with the white tip or sometimes she'll paint the white tip with gel polish (lasts longer) depending on the style I want. I added a few pictures for reference. I went in to get my acrylics removed, it was my first time ever getting acrylics so I didn't know what to expect when removing them. She didn't soak them in acetone at all and just clipped them a little and started ripping them all off. The tool she used to rip them off wasn't even a real tool it was another nail she will probably use on another customer which is extremely unsanitary. Then she clipped off all of my healthy nail growth and barely filed them. Now parts of my nails are flaking off and there is still glue all over them. First time at Ivy's nails. I selected her because of the reviews I read on Yelp. I called to make an appt. and she was able to take me that day a couple hours later. She is really sweet and has another young gal working with her and she was really nice too. My pedicure looks EXCELLENT! Ivy did a beautiful job and the spa treatment was well worth the cost. I also had a basic manicure that was done by the younger gal (I'm sorry, I don't think I even had her name.) My mani looks really good. She was really fast and it looks very nice. Pros: Appointment availability is really fabulous. They accept walk-ins and had a few while I was there. Excellent service such as shaping, callous remover, spa treatment, mask, etc. Ivy and her assistant are friendly. Very cool. Polish looks so pretty, shiny and smooth. Comfy spa chairs. Offers water while you have your mani/pedi. A few hundred colors to choose from. Pulled fresh sterile tools from the steamer box. These gals know how to make your tootsies look summer ready! Really cute Victorian building shared with a salon. Nice music playing. Uses the disposable liners in the foot bath. Has such lovely products for the Spa Pedi. Pay with cash or Square Up. Cons: The room was a little messy - looked like a teenage girls bedroom with to-go cups, plastic grocery bags on top of stuff, jackets, etc. It was kind of odd. Perhaps because the room is so tiny, there isn't really any place to put their own stuff down. It wasn't dirty, it was just messy and made me feel like I was sitting in my college-age daughter's dorm room. The reason for the four stars is: #1 - I believe the big thick emery boards are shared among clients. I realized that as I was getting my manicure. A woman who had been in at the same time as me was getting a pedicure also. We were having our toes shaped at the same time and I happened to notice she had that black toe fungus under a couple of her toenails. (No judgement on her or anything like that, I just happened to see it.) The emery board from the other woman's feet was used on my fingernails during the manicure. GAH!! By the time I realized the same board was used, it was too late. I was pretty much done having my nails shaped. It was like a sudden panic washed over me when I saw the board that Ivy had been using on my toes was sitting right where she left it and the other emery board from the other pedi was gone!! And on my fingernails! I may be over reacting, but I'll definitely watch my nails for a while. I have no idea if the fungus spreads. #2 - Couldn't tell if the callous remover block was used on other people because I never saw her take it out of a package. It was just sitting on the supply cart. Hopefully, I don't sound insulting or jerky because I really like my nails and feel they both do excellent work. Really. One of the best I've had. I'm just a little iffy on two of the supplies. I will most likely go back, but will bring a couple of my own supplies such as the scrubber for callous remover, an emery board for shaping, and my own polish (polish - just because I am a creature of habit.) read more
