Grilled chicken platter with garlic bread and mashed potatoes.
    Tina C.

Large parking lot that was barely filled on a Fri evening should have been my first red flag. Inside is cafeteria style seating and a counter to order. Staff is friendly and gave me free tap water. I ordered the bbq chicken platter with mashed potatoes and gravy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good, but I wouldn't come here just for that. Garlic bread was hard and didn't taste like garlic. Chicken was cooked well, but the sauce was VERY sweet with zero hints of smokiness. What a disappointment. I tried my dining partner's pulled pork, and it was the same sickly sweet sauce. The Mac and cheese was 10000% Kraft Mac and cheese. Also the menu had no brisket, which you could find at even an average bbq place. Although it's difficult to find decent bbq in this area, I would not recommend Cubby's.

Cubby's BBQ 249 S. River St. Hackensack, NJ 07601 Full Rack Baby Rack Ribs The plate is pricey, but you will definitely get your money's worth. The slab of ribs was gigantic. The soft, tender pork falls right off the bone. As a barbecue sauce junkie, I highly recommend requesting an extra cup for that added touch of tangy, savory flavor. A selected sided and garlic bread is also included. An up charge applies for some of the sides. #cubbys #babybackribs #hackensacknj

I have not been here since I was a kid. Not sure why. But I am so glad my family said hey let's eat here. The food is very very good. They make hotdogs deep fried - rippers. Yep. And they make them right. I had a chargrilled burger that was fantastic. Fresh. Juicy. Bun delicious. French fries were crispy and yummy. Free soda refills. Coleslaw on the side was very good. So happy I rediscovered Cubbies.

A full rack actually means a full rack here. You know it is going to be good the moment you do a small little tug and the bones comes out clean. Only problem i had was the garlic bread not really flavorful. Since its not the star, im not deducting a star for that. I know people have different preferences for bbq, so this is the wet type.

Great customer service. Clean and fast. We hot dogs, fries, chicken tenders, pulled chicken, sweet potatoe fries and sangria, which was very good. Inside and outside seating. The lady helper was very nice and attentive. Sorry was starving and forgot to take pictures of the food. lol

Food and Great service. Sandwich and burger are on larger size. Took half of it home

Watch out for all the extra fees. Cut in 3 pieces for $1 fee is wild

Ordered a full sized pulled pork sandwich on garlic bread - a bit pricey for what it is... Watch out for extra fees. When he asked if we wanted onions, said sure, didn't know it was an additional $1. When he asked if we wanted it cut into 3 pieces, said sure, didn't know that would be an extra $1 charge as well... cause we sure didn't need it to be cut at all if they charged for that. Long story short, don't get bamboozled like we did. Felt a bit too saucy and mediocre for the price and what it was, but maybe I didn't enjoy it as much cause I was salty about all the unexpected extra fees.

Pulled pork BBQ sandwich, $12 half and $22 full.

It's not cheap, $30 for a half rack of ribs. Had delivery that was quick and simple even though the fries were completely soggy by the driver 5 min away, I don't blame them for that but you may want to eat those in person. They do have fee on Uber to deliver. Sweet potato fries were too mushy so I'll leave that to someone else to review who eats them in person. The garlic bread pulled pork sandwich was good if you like ketchup flavored barbecue sauce, it's not too smoky but is overly sweet and salty. After reading other reviews I even asked for less sauce... but not sure if that was managed (wouldn't be surprised if they had it already pre-sauced beforehand since it was fairly evenly distributed and not just one on side), but I have definitely had better. And anything extra topping you want, including cheese or other toppings is all an extra charge. You can change the bread from the plain to garlic without fee.

I heard about how good the ribs are from one of my Coworkers. Amazing Ribs, I could not help myself to finish them as soon as I started eating them. The owner came out as I was ordering, and was a pleasant person to chat with while waiting. I can't recommend this place enough! The Cajun Mac n cheese as well as the ribs were absolutely excellent. I'll be back again!

First stop was to the men's room. It smelled like summer camp (not in a good way). The staff is very friendly and efficient with a large fun looking menu. The mac 'n cheese was really good but it was downhill after that. The sliced steak sandwich was greasy and tasteless. The ribs were borderline boring. Expensive too. Perhaps this is why no one else was in the place for a Saturday lunch. If I return, it will be for the hot dogs but there are plenty of other places for them.

6 Piece Buffalo Wings, Cajun Mac N Cheese
    Jane C.

I came here for lunch with a group of 7 on a Sunday. You order/pay at the counter and seat yourself. I got the 6 pc buffalo wings and a side of mac & cheese. I ordered the regular mac & cheese but the employee put in cajun. At first, I didn't really mind enough to ask for it to be fixed. But I kind of wish I had gotten the regular because the saltiness of the buffalo wings + the saltiness from the cajun seasoning was too much sodium for me. The wings looked quite small, especially for the price. It also comes with celery, blue cheese, and extra buffalo sauce on the side. I'd like to come back to try other menu options, but I wasn't super impressed with my first experience here.

Used to eat lunch here back in 2013/2014 when I lived in Hackensack. Used to love their food back then. Came here last weekend after bowling. The food didn't impress me anymore. The ambiance and decor are still top notch though. I am unable to pinpoint what's missing but the Mac and Cheese is not as good as before. I do recommend the rack or ribs though because it was so tender and delightful. The garlic bread was also very tasty! The service was great and the servers and cashiers were all polite and quick.

Owner Pablo and his staff introduced me to five of the most popular items on the menu. Empanadas: These Argentinian turnovers come in five flavors: Beef, Chicken, Caprese, Spinach, Ham & Cheese. Have one or have them all; the choice is yours! Buenos Aires Salad: This may be an appetizer, but this salad practically eats like a meal. My favorite toppings were the avocado and shrimp. I don't have an acquired taste for hard boiled eggs; but everything else was perfect. Argentinian Grill for Two: Although this barbecue is meant for two, it can easily serve three people. This carnivorous entrée is filled with all of your favorite proteins including skirt steak, blood sausage, Argentinian sausage, and beef ribs. All meats are cooked with wooden charcoal so it has that authentic hint of wooden flavor. As a bonus, this entrée is served on a table grill with charcoal. Grilled Sea Food With Lobster: You won't need to travel down the shore for seafood when you explore this dish. It has all of your favorite dishes from under the sea. Seafood Mix With Rice: Here is a variation of the previous entrée except everything is served over a heaping pile of yellow rice. If you are fan of soccer, this is definitely a perfect hang out spot. Everything else, you grab at the buffet - including seafood, fish balls, veggies, and noodles. The BBQ items are just okay, but that tends to be the case with you have hot pot + BBQ. The hot pot beef was good but the lamb was super gamey, which turned my broth into a gamey lamb flavor, making everything else I cooked in there have a trace of that too. Bottom line - skip the lamb. As for the buffet, they have a lot of options. Aside from the typical hot pot items, they also have some Korean dishes like kimbap, japchae, kimchi, as well as some fried items.
