I visited the Riverside location on a Friday night for a Spa Yoga class for the first time. Coming in, I was unsure of what to expect, and a little nervous! Once I got there, I was warmly greeted by the instructor. She knew it was my first time, and personally walked me through where to put my belongings, gave me a quick tour of the facility, and showed me where to find the items needed for the class. I felt right at home. The class itself was everything I had hoped for; calming, restorative, stretchy, and I left feeling amazing. The room was set to warmer than "normal" but not a hot yoga situation. I can't wait to try other classes at this location!! read more

Whether you go to EP or Prov location you're in for a treat. Fantastic teachers that are both knowledgeable and caring of what your practices look like to you. Parking in Prov can be difficult but that's city life for you. Though there is a fair amount of metered parking close by. From Yin and spa yoga to sculpt and strength classes PPY is wonderful. The slow & strong class with Nik is so restorative and empowering. I loved that he said, " even real trees sway in the breeze, it's okay if you wobble," and, "it's not a performance, it's a practice." His instructions were clear and easy to understand which is great for someone like me who's been practicing for years but not all that consistently. When I left I felt melty and boneless in the best way. Definitely take Nik's class if you're looking for yoga that will simultaneously relax and invigorate you! read more

I don't even want to give PPY a 5 star rating because it will crowd up my yoga classes This place has been a little oasis in the midst of a hectic work week and I am so grateful to have found them!!! The trainers are so kind and seem to care so much more about your well-being and mindset than other places I've been. It is definitely a bit more advance, I don't know how many first time yoga-goers I would recommend it to, but if they hold a yoga 101 course I'm sure it is/would be an awesome place to learn the basics. I would recommend knowing basic poses and their Sanskrit names for a majority of the classes. There is a good balance between physically intensive and restorative/meditative classes, but the spectrum is wide so be sure you know what you're signing up for!!!! read more

I'm new to yoga, but PPY got me hooked me through 30 days for $30 new client offer. Even though I didn't know any yoga going into my first class, the instructors are great at explaining and demonstrating the poses without breaking the flow of the class. They emphasize that if you need to make modifications or take a break, that's totally ok. They offer hands-on assists, but always give you an opportunity at the beginning of class to opt out. I also appreciate that the new client deal also comes with two tokens for a free mat rental--I wasn't sure if I wanted to invest in a yoga mat right away! The studio is always clean and welcoming. It's a relaxing experience from the moment you walk in the door! I'm a sucker for when they burn incense or pass out lavender-scented towels at the end of class. There's a huge variety of classes at pretty much every hour of the day. Obviously, the classes during peak hours are busier, but it's never so crowded that it's uncomfortable. (I've never gone in the early AM though.) There's a small amount of parking at the studio, and it's sometimes possible to find street parking (especially if you're there in the evening). read more

Good For Me I am a yoga newcomer. A few people I work with come to PPY and recommended it. I've been to seven sessions now and I have to say I am impressed. The classes that I have taken are informative and helpful. The place is very clean and inviting and the instructors make me feel welcome and personify the message Yoga is trying to define. I have been a client at PPY since late February. I am on the extreme end of COVID precautions and was searching for a studio that was taking all of the CDC recommendations AND then some. I toured a few studios across the state and when I went to PPY on Eddy st and their East location I knew it was the right fit. Walking in I was greeted promptly and immediately taken aback by the exceptionally clean and open airy lobby space. I already had a good sense that this was a studio with High standards. The other thing that made this the right choice for me was the variety of types of classes and class times. I wanted a studio that if I woke up late I could find a later class time or if one day I'm in the mood for something different I have some variety. I have been to pretty much every type of class including sculpt and I think there are a variety of teaching styles presented though generally I would describe this studio as being on the way higher end of difficulty. There are certain classes I would (and have) brought a beginner student to but many of the more popular instructors and class times I would describe as very challenging. I do think the instructors are accommodating to various levels though. The last piece I want to land on and the reason I've dusted off my yelping to write this review, is Amy. Amy teaches some classes and mans the desk during busy times and I have found her to be so welcoming, helpful and kind literally every time I see her and when I was talking to her about upgrading my yoga mat and purchasing one from their retail space she alerted me to perk points I had been accumulating and didn't even know! I thought that was such a considerate and thoughtful gesture for her to make sure I could be getting a discount on my purchase by following a few additional steps. Iv'e been a member here for about a year and a half and I love it. $89 a month gets you unlimited access to three different studios. The Annex location is right down the street from the larger studio and classes typically start 15min apart, perfect for when you want a smaller class size or are just not interested in what's offered at the big location. I really love that they offer level 2 classes, yin yoga, and foam rolling on top of vinyasa style classes. Plus they have the kindest and most helpful teachers I have experienced in Rhode Island. My strong yoga practice is one of the major cornerstones of my physical and mental health. I'm so grateful for this excellent studio! read more

I'll be generous and give this studio three stars. I was hoping to make this studio my yoga home as it is very conveniently located to my work. I was initially psyched that when I stopped by to inquire about the studio and classes that the front desk staff and instructors were super friendly and kind. I took advantage of their intro offer and took a number of classes at the main studio and also the Annex. I found the classes at the main studio to be too hot and way too crowded. I mainly do yoga to get a good workout, stretch and relax my mind, but I was really anxious throughout these classes with so many people crowded in the room. It was hard to relax and feel mindful. The classes I took at the Annex were less crowded but were very slow, IMO. Much of the class time was spent stretching and rearranging various props around the room, including folding chairs, which seemed odd to me. I can do that kind of yoga at home by myself for free. I also didn't like that there's not really a reception area in the Annex except for a few benches. So, if you arrive several minutes before class, there not a comfortable place to relax like in the main studio which has several comfy chairs. Additionally, good luck finding parking in this area. There are only a few spots at the actual studio. Otherwise, you could be parking on the street and walking a good distance to class. This is not a huge deal in the summer and fall, but potentially brutal in the winter. I believe they are expanding to another location in the area and will give them another try at that space. I hope that the new location is less crowded. I'd also like to see some lower heat (80s) or no heat level classes offered too. read more

Providence power yoga, has yoga classes for the skilled and the beginners. I like Providence power yoga because I can always find the class to fit the time that I need. Some of them a little bit more difficult, and some of them easier. As a beginner, I find them to be a little difficult to follow, but the more I attend the easier they are. The instructors alway guide you when you are unsure if the moves. Parking can be a little difficult. read more

I never think to review anything but restaurants. Trying to expand my horizons! I've only taken a few classes here but they have been varied and all good! Robyn's Saturday 8am is a winner every time. Today she threw a curve ball. Her usual high energy was just as strong and powerful as always but more...laid back and reserved...than usual. I had done a long run before and appreciated every second of that and the good stretches we got! The two other instructs I've had have also been wonderful and the owner is lovely. Give them a try but please leave me a spot in that Saturday class!! read more

I love love love this place so many options so many great instructors I couldn't imagine going anywhere else

I think the studio has a lot of potential, but they really fall short on some things. My major gripe is they over pack the studio. I'm sorry, but its honestly a rip off. Its not appropriate to charge $18 dollars a class and you cant do sun salutations. Theres very literally less than 1 inch of space between mats. Everyone is sweaty, do you think I want to have the ladys next to me legs on my mat? I really cannot stress this enough PPY you need to lower the number of people allowed in class at once. I also find the selection of classes and the actual practices to be limited. The teachers themselves are very nice and I'm sure very educated, but every practice seems very basic to me. I don't think theres any ability to deepen your practice. And even if you want to take your own variations you can't because you got some stranger butt all up in your personal space. That being said the studio its self is beautiful and everyone is very nice. Its also worth noting that I go to the main studio on Bassett St; went once to the East Providence studio and it was empty. I'm thinking now as I type this perhaps I should look into the annex schedule. East Providence studio is too far away from me. I'll be looking into other studios for now but its nice to know PPY will be there. read more

With everything going on in the world, PPY has provided a sense of grounding and normalcy. From week 1, they switched over to online classes and providing them for everyone. Great classes, great instructors, a lot of offerings and variety throughout the day. The studios seem clean but the classes get way too overpacked. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but it's really hard to relax when you are squeezed in a small room with 50 other people. There is also hardly any parking, so you have to arrive a bit earlier than usual to account for that. Despite the shortfalls, I'll still return and buy a membership because the classes/instructors are superb. read more

Went here a couple days ago for the first time + really had a great experience! The place is adorable + has really cute changing rooms/area to hang your stuff. There is a large lobby area where I noticed a group of ppl talking about nutrition in precious arm chairs--- this is so crucial so you are not walking into HOTNESS as soon as you enter the place. They offered free oranges + something to drink when you check in-- love! The yoga studio is a separate room and HOLYSWEATFEST awesomeness. Their studio was not only heated but humid so I have never sweat more in my life. I felt a complete body cleanse after I left-- more so than any other studio I've been to. The instructor was professional + encouraging... I am pretty sure there were times she was yelling but it was more like HOLD THAT DOWNWARD DOG ONE MORE BREATH + it really made a big difference. I attended the Baptiste Power Vinyasa with Victoria Lockard for 75 minutes. They have complementary mats + clean towels that smell like heaven. They offer lunch time classes on the cheap! There is street parking + a small parking lot but the area is a little iffy at night so be careful! I will be going back + hopefully often! If hot sweaty yoga greatness is your thing, this is your kinda place. read more

Disclaimer: I have taken a total of four yoga classes in my life and all of them have been at Providence Power Yoga. First, the space is unbelievable. The foyer is calming that is painted with a soothing blue and has great seating. There is usually a smiling staff member at the desk who will answer your questions. I walked in and explained that I have NEVER taken a yoga class ot even tried a yoga pose. The owner, JoEllen Hockenbrough, happen to be there at the time and completely put me at ease. She assured me that I would get great benefits from yoga and that the community is nothing short of supportive. Most of the classes are heated (95 degrees) and they provided rented mats, sell coconut and regular bottle d water, and offer free yoga blocks and straps for your use. There are four ample dressing rooms and a separate room for massage (!), which I haven't tried. In my four classes, I have had a different instructor each time and they all have been very good. JoEllen (by far!) is the best so far. She really made me believe I could complete the poses and I *did*! Things to keep in mind: There are no showers There is some great trial memberships (I am trying the $50 first month unlimited yoga!) It is located in the Brown/RIH triangle, so expect students and healthcare professionals But overall- it has been an amazing experience! read more

To me, PPY is like the beautiful person sitting at the end of the bar that you lust over from afar, finally work up the nerve to talk to, and end up disappointed learning there's less there than you hoped. I loved my discounted trial month for $30. I never considered staying on past the trial month - $80/mo is on the high end for me given the packed classes, crappy parking, and lack of actual instruction. Loves: Early am yoga sculpt class! Only time I ever felt like instructor knew I was there due to smaller size. Cool lavender eye cloths following some classes! Well kept studio space! Plenty of extra equipment to loan! Attention to sanitation wiping down mats and weights after every class. Good service. Emma Lipkin!! Dislikes: Price, crowded classes, parking, crowded classes, lack of 1:1 attention from instructors, instructors generally assume general to advanced yoga terminology knowledge, and not a whole lot of communication between instructors and class, whether that be asking about injuries or taking a quick survey of specific things people would like to work on. My commute sucks. If you know me, you have heard me complain about it. In addition, it makes me miss 99% of yoga classes in my hometown (Newport). PPY opened and is literally in my parking lot at work... how much better could that be? As soon as this happened, My zen was taken to a whole new level and my road rage abated. The place is so cute and fresh. It makes you want to stay and hang out with your girlfriends to discuss yoga with afterwards. The decor and furniture is inviting, young, and hip. It makes you feel like you are in your friends living room. There are places to change and store your clothes (during the class) as well as mats for long term storage. Being in the city.. that makes it so easy! They offer towels to all students (which I have never seen before), free use of mats (again, rare), and beautiful passages during savasana. They offer both cork and foam blocks, as well as ample spray to wipe your mats. They also offer free tangergines/tea in the waiting area. It truly is the gold star to customer service. My only complaint is that there is no showers, as I go straight to work from class (don't tell my co workers). The schedule times are made to fit around those who work... I love how there are morning classes. On days that I know I have stuff to do after work.. I love knowing that I can come in early and get my yoga done for the day. The classes are challenging, spiritual and rigorous. I also love how in the summer they do outdoor yoga on the docks. Those were some of the best classes I have ever taken. read more

I had been looking for a yoga studio for a while before finding PPY. Joellen has created a beautiful space. Not just with the physical space - which is spacious, clean, and has changing areas, props, complementary towels AND mats, but also with the feel of the studio. There's a real sense of community and warmth. The energy is always positive and genuine. It would seem that all that would be a given for a "yoga studio" but many studios in their attempt to create that kind of atmosphere just end up being cliquish and at worst cultish. I've been coming to PPY for almost a year and haven't found a class I haven't liked or loved. The classes can be inspiring, challenging, restorative, or playful... sometimes all of the above. As the studio has grown, they've also begun to offer classes beyond "hot" and "power" yoga which is nice for variety. My practice is not as regular as possible, but I always always look forward to a PPY class. read more

Such an amazing work out! Love going to a yoga studio that focuses on strength and where you can see results. I did the new student 30 day unlimited classes and I absolutely loved it. Every single class was intense and I left soaked in sweat. I think I went to 10 or 11 classes. I went to two locations, providence and Riverside and both studios had a great feel, parking was not an issue either. Sometimes I feel dissatisfied leaving other yoga studios, feeling as if I did stretch and relax for 90 minutes, but I didn't get much out of it in terms of an actual workout... that is not the case here! read more

Sometimes i need just a release from the world, shut it all out, let it all go and melt away. This place really bring the yogi out in me. Liz's sunday candlelight class are just perfect. Warm class, usually with nice candles to eliminate the room. I can really concentrate on my chi as i hold my static pose and the lavender towels during your vinyasa is a nice way to end it. Liz instruction is amazing. Just enough to keep you wanting more. What can i say, she's AMAZING! The studio has a very SPA like-feel, even though it's in the heart of downtown. I really do feel they made a place where you can disconnect for an hour or so from all your troubles. 12 bucks for students like me, and 15 for other for a pick up class is worth it in my wallet. There is no better studio than ppy! Having eczema, I was reluctant to join a heated studio but after attending one class here, I was unable to stop coming! Staff is very friendly and there is one main studio at this location. It can get cramped because of how many people want to attend, so you have to get there early (also parking can be a nightmare). There is a range of classes from yoga sculpt (yoga meets Pilates With weights) to yin yoga (stretching classes) to great vinyasa classes. My favorite instructors are Mim, Jill, and Shannon. Also for beginners there's a 30 dollars for one month unlimited! ( that's how I got hooked. I went 20 times that month!) and for those who don't want to get a monthly unlimited (80 dollars a month with a free monthly guest pass) there are scattered 8 dollar classes throughout the day. read more

The 6:15am heated power yoga sculpt classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Jillian are my *jam*. I wish the studio offered the Monday and Wednesday versions of this class that they used to offer. Tbh, I would go to any sculpt class that Jillian taught. I have a lot of difficulty finding classes that I enjoy or are strenuous enough as to feel like a challenge. In the past, I've taken a ton of "trendy" workout classes - barre, spinning, etc - and nothing has worked for me. This class is different. I come out each session drenched in sweat but feeling like I've worked my body, and over the last four months of class, I've noticed a difference in strength and muscle tone. Jillian tries to shake up the routines for each class, so they always feel fresh, and the high-energy, fun pop playlists she curates make class whiz right on by! read more

Full Disclosure: I work in the Jewelry District and have only attended PPY's 45-minute lunch-time classes thus far. That said, PPY is by far the best yoga studio I've had the pleasure of striking a pose in in PVD! Seriously, this studio is BEAUTIFUL. They provide all sorts of accessories for use within their classes, and even provide complementary mats for use in their classes too! The two instructors I've had so far for the lunchtime classes have been friendly and professional and that fact shines that through the environment of the studio. I can't even begin to express how pleasant it is to see a friendly face that greets you by name for the lunch break classes! Every instructor I've met does such a wonderful job of helping you find that happy place inside your head where you haven't a care in the world. When savasana ends I feel like I've released all of my tension, let it go, and just melted away. I then can float effortlessly through the second half of my work day and find myself being even more productive because of it. Lunchtime classes here are well balanced and scaled to suit all types of yogis, from complete beginners to more advanced students. They keep their heat at a warm--but not sweltering--80F for their lunch classes. I still find I sweat mildly, but it's never, but I never feel I require a shower afterward. Most of their lunchtime clientele is standard jewelry district fare: students, medical professionals, and young professionals. The studio is more upscale than others I've frequented. Prices generally seem to reflect that, BUT their lunch classes are an extremely reasonable $5 AND they give you the option to sign up for a 30-days-for-$30 deal if it's still your first week! When you walk into their studio, expect a clean and fresh lounge; plenty of cubbies to stash your things and numerous hooks to hang your coats. They even have changing rooms and a bathroom that I would assume is also very nice. I've heard they sell bottled water and coconut water and they also have a very nice selection of mats, clothing, and accessories for sale behind the counter as well. If that wasn't enough their customer service even goes so far as to provide a basket of fruit on your way out of the studio. Unbelievable. In summary, if you're in the market for a yoga studio in downtown PVD or the jewelry district, look no further. You've found it! read more

PPY is an absolutely fantastic studio, if you like people so close to you when you practice yoga that they're sweat literally splashes onto you (gross), and you like paying $22 a yoga class. Such a wonderful and welcoming studio. I recently moved to Providence and was seeking a yoga studio that would suit my needs and make me feel at home. PPY definitely did this. All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and you never feel out of place. The studio is also very clean and has a great array of props. I love how the classes are challenging but the teachers always offer several alternatives for most poses. All teachers are great but I found Liz G and Jillian to be exceptional! Another thing I loved about PPY is that they are understanding when it comes to being late. I have been to studios before that would not let you through the doors one minute late but JoElen and her staff are so understanding and never made me feel bad about being a couple of minutes late (most of the time due to traffic).
