Wow, where do I even start? This place is truly a hole-in-the-wall gem in Ojai, which I honestly would not have expected. I was golfing nearby and decided to stop by today. I first heard about this restaurant from one of my clients, who absolutely loves sushi and has been here multiple times. We got there 30 minutes before opening because the lines get long, and I think they only have around 18 tables or less, including the bar seating. When we arrived, there were already about 10 people in line, and keep in mind, this was still 30 minutes before they opened. Luckily, I was able to get one of the tables and did not have to wait long to be seated. Just know that even after you sit down, there may still be a bit of a wait. Our server was very efficient and did a great job handling all of her tables. We sat outside, which was the best choice because the fresh air made the experience even better. Now let's talk about the food, because we had a lot. We ordered the duck skewer, chicken skewer, sashimi salad, miso soup, a roll that I cannot remember the name of, but it had all kinds of fish in it, and spicy edamame. The spicy edamame was super oily, so I had to use paper towels to wipe some of the oil off, but it was still good. Overall, for the food, experience, and atmosphere, I would give this place 5 stars. My plan is to try everything on the menu since it is not a big one, and that is something I can actually do because I golf in Ojai on Sundays and the golf course is only about a 4-minute drive away. So keep an eye out for my updated review. As always, these are just my opinions. Please visit this restaurant and let them know African Girl sent you.

A hole in the wall Japanese restaurant that is a must try! What I liked about it was not a huge menu, and items that seem more real/authentic than usual sushi restaurants. No Americanized menu items with all the sauces. Also the chicken wings and pork belly was so tender and juicy. And of course flavorful. It can be a wait so just be prepared but it's worth waiting for. Service is fast and friendly. Attentive staff. So delicious! Highly recommend if you are in Ojai!

This hole in the wall has a great vibe. There are traditional and non traditional yakitori such as duck and lamb chops. Really enjoyed my uni nigiri. Hamachi kama was on point. The courtyard is a pleasant place to wait. Seated as promised.

What a special little spot. Had dinner here this evening, friendly service and really delicious bites. The fish was very fresh and the tare on the yakitori was also very good. Specials beef tongue and chicken skin were excellent!

A must try! We came here for lunch and the restaurant is small, but intimate and stylish. They have a small menu but that's always a good sign for an asian restaurant! We got the tuna bowl and chasiu ramen, and both were great. The tuna was high quality and well portioned, and the ramen noodles were bouncy with a rich broth. We also think the price is extremely good, especially for the tuna bowl considering the quality. This is the best food I've had in Ojai.

Izakaya Full Moon is a hidden gem! The sushi is incredibly fresh, and the duck and chicken skewers are absolutely bomb. Perfect spot for great food, chill vibes, and amazing flavor every time. Highly recommend!

We were craving Japanese food and decided to try this place based on Google Maps. We ordered the lunch special bowl with tuna, salmon, crabmeat, and ikura for $18. While the flavors were good, the portion felt unbalanced--there were only two thin slices each of tuna and salmon, but a lot more rice, making it hard to enjoy the fish with the rice. We also tried the char siu ramen for $20. The portion was small, the broth was a light chicken base and not very rich, and the char siu came as just five thin slices. Overall, the taste was enjoyable, but the portions seemed oddly small and not quite satisfying.

Found out about Izakaya full moon because of an ig post and I'm so glad I did! The restaurant is a walk in based establishment. We came on a Saturday around 7pm and were seated in less than 30 mins. I really liked the chicken meatball and mushroom skewers that we got. They were perfectly charred and the sauce over them was delightfully sweet and salty. The cut tuna roll was also delicious! The tuna was fresh and fatty. I was super excited to try the Uni soba but was thoroughly disappointed. They described the broth as creamy. There was no real flavor. There was a broth reminiscent of a Maruchan ramen broth where you've added too much water. But!!! The uni and salmon roe in the soup were fresh and lovely. Please don't order this though. They offer tai-chazuke which I should've gotten instead. The lemon sour I got was light and refreshing. The ambiance is warm, inviting, yet simple. The service was a bit slow but friendly. They seem to be a bit short staffed. However if you order sushi and sit at the bar you'll get it right away. I would love to come back if I'm ever in ojai

We visited Izakaya Full Moon on a Sunday at 11:45am, and being one of the first ones there was amazing. We usually come for dinner, and the wait can be up to 45 minutes, but this time we were seated right away! The lunch and dinner menus are different, with the lunch menu focused on Ramen and Don Small Bowls. While sushi wasn't available for lunch, the sashimi salad with salmon and tuna more than made up for it. I also had the Salmon Rice Bowl with Ikura (salmon eggs), which was another great substitute for the sushi we usually enjoy. We shared the Tsukemen, which is our favorite type of ramen to try if it's on a menu. Theirs was packed with flavor, and sharing just one bowl was more than enough for the two of us. It's always a great experience here, and totally worth the drive to Ojai. We'll be back again for dinner!

I ordered lunch special - 3 rolls with salad and miso soup. All of them were $18 which was AMAZING DEAL for portions of food. Mine included fried California Roll, Spicy tuna roll, and Philadelphia Roll. It was honestly a lot of food for that price. However, rolls did not have outstanding flavor highlights. Pretty mid. However you get at least what you expect. - Flavor: 3/5 - Service: 4/5 - servers were nice - Price: 4.5/5 for lunch special. They have a parking lot in the back which was super convenient. We didn't have a reservation but we were seated at a table immediately. The dining room is cozy and the decor is sophisticated, but not pretentious. Our server was friendly but not intrusive. We were a little hesitant about having sushi on a Monday but there was no reason. Everything was super fresh. Nothing fishy. We had 2 rolls, 3 sets of pieces, the gyoza, and the stuffed jalapeños. I had a craving for spicy tuna over crispy rice, so I asked our server if they could make some since I didn't see it on the menu. They did and it was 10 out of 10. I would say the portion sizes are pretty generous. The individual pieces of sushi were more like the size of 2 I'm most other restaurants. If I could offer one suggestion it would be to go a bit easier on the sauce for the rolls. Let the flavor of the food be the star.

Had reservations for 7 pm dinner on Friday. The place wasn't busy during our entire dining experience. Aside from a larger table of ~10 people and 2 smaller tables, the place was empty, which was nice and quiet for date night and anniversary celebration. The 9-course Kaiseki was plate after plate of flavor. Highlights: - Course 4: Somen with sweet broth, grilled beef, and grilled green onion. THIS. The beef was so good, I refused to swallow, so I could savor the flavor. Fatty in flavor. Lean in cut. Somen cooked to perfection. - Course 7: Chilean sea bass simmered in bonito chicken broth with daikon and green beans ~ THE SEA BASS WAS GAS. Marinated in miso before grilling, the tenderness and juiciness of the sea bass is locked in prior to simmering in the broth. Chicken broth with the bonito added depth to the dish. - Course 9: Black sesame pudding with tangerine jelly ~ THIS. This dish embodied the level of black sesame I expect for any dish. Tangerine jelly cuts through as a nice refresher for the next bite. Perfectly not too sweet. All in all, I had the best experience. Each component of a dish adds its own flavor that completes the dish as a whole. Ultimately, one of my favorite culinary experiences that took my taste buds on a journey! Would return!
