I'm 100% Japanese, so I love sushi. My friend and I wanted to eat sushi, and I'd never tried Kibo sushi, so we decided to give it a try. It was Happy Hour, so we ordered a few things from the Happy Hour menu. I ordered the salmon-baked roll and the Vegetable tempura roll. I love the taste of salmon, so I always order salmon rolls wherever I go. Sorry, but honestly, I didn't like the baked salmon roll here; there was too much sauce, and I couldn't really taste the salmon. Americans might like the taste. The vegetable tempura roll was ok. I think the rice was not tasty in either roll. The jasmine tea was my favorite type with blooming jasmine flowers. The service was excellent. There are also large tables, so it's good for families and groups. The parking lot is in front of the restaurant. read more

I came here with a friend as we both enjoy sushi. They have happy hour which has variety of items in it. So she was good and at the spicy garlic edamame was definitely a favorite. I don't recall exact roles, but one of them was lemon and it was good. I will definitely return in the near future. read more

I accidentally entered through the side door, mistaking it for the front but the staff was accommodating and allowed me to choose any seat since the establishment wasn't that busy. My server was pleasant but could have been a little more engaging, though I understand her job can be challenging. The atmosphere was inviting and well-maintained. I ordered a strawberry lemonade, which was excessively sweet, reminiscent of Kool-Aid, so I only consumed a small portion otherwise I'd get a headache from the sugar. I selected the 3-item dinner and requested to substitute the California roll for a tuna roll at an additional cost, but I was informed that I could only choose three items (well). So, I accepted this and opted for teriyaki chicken, gyoza, and sashimi, which I enjoyed. While the meal was super solid, the teriyaki chicken had a burnt flavor and was tough. I attempted to finish it but ultimately left some uneaten. I guess I left quite a bit because they offered a box for leftovers, which I declined. I understand why this place is popular, but the chicken was disappointing. I have to keep it real and deduct points for the lemonade, salad, and chicken. Quick seating on Friday for happy hour, friendly service, food came out in less than 15 minutes and was surprisingly good quality for happy hour prices(from 8pm till closing everyday). The sushi pieces were probably best bang for your buck because the piece of fish was much bigger than the rice it was sitting on top of. The steak for the teriyaki bowl was so tender but clearly someone forgot to season it with salt before cooking it and I felt their sushi rice was slightly undercooked but still edible.The spicy heat roll was definitely spicy which I enjoyed and the tuna belly roll was bland. I came in here after getting my imaging done at CMH. I came in during happy hour. Customer service was awesome, they let me sit wherever I'd like. They quickly ordered my food and it did not disappoint at all. I absolutely loved the sushi. The ambiance was very chill and dark lit which was nice. Went during happy hour and the menu is great during that time. We started with the spicy soy beans, then had the Lemon Roll, the Memo special roll, and the Red Sun Roll. I recommend coming for Happy hour from 8pm to close if you want to give this a try. The happy hour menu has a great selection of rolls and sashimi. The regular menu has a large selection of specialty rolls though that I recommend you give a try as well. This place does get busy and if you come during happy hour then expect to wait a little. If you can show up 15 minutes before happy hour, then that would be the best time to get a table faster. There were a lot of cooks and waiters/waitresses during this hour. They have a lot of seating available but when I went, it was all filled up. The happy hour prices are worth the wait though. I don't know anywhere else where you can get a large hot sake for $2.99. We will be back though, even if it's not happy hour. They have a lot of sushi roll and plate options in their regular menu. I also saw a lot of online orders being done too so we might do that as well. read more

This review is for kibo's crazy hour (every night from 8pm to close)! 5 stars for service and unreal deals! We've gone Thursday nights and usually end up with the same waitress who is so sweet and patient. She recommended her favorite roll (the memo special) to us and we're obsessed. We spent $35 on dinner and that got us drinks, appetizers, a couple rolls, AND a chicken teriyaki bowl! 4 stars for food. Solid happy hour options, with the understanding that although it's not the highest quality sushi, it's still good! I love ordering miso soup, edamame, gyoza, the memo special (spicy shrimp with tempura salmon roll!!!), the crunchy roll, an avocado roll, and an asahi or kirin with a hot sake. Tip - you can join the waitlist remotely from the Yelp app! There is usually a wait (on the Thursdays I've gone) so getting on the waitlist ahead of time is really helpful. read more

Overall, I really loved this place! My mom and I were in Ventura for the day and needed somewhere to eat, we love sushi so much so we decided on Kibo! No one was in the restaurant when we came in, just about an hour after opening, but as soon as we walked in we were welcomed and sat! We ordered the Garlic Edamame, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Baked Salmon Roll, Foursome Roll, and the Garlic Albacore Roll. Everything tasted amazing and fresh-- the only roll I wouldn't order again is the Garlic albacore roll, but that's one of the many fish we have yet to try and it doesn't seem like it's for us! Totally fine. The foursome roll was AMAZING because you get a side of tuna poke and it was perfect to put it on top of the roll itself and the crispy rice! All in all it was a great experience and for everything (add a soda and a green tea in there) it was $100 with a tip for the two of us! We even had food left over! I wish I could've snagged a picture but we were too excited to eat! We will definitely be back :) read more

We have been enjoying Kibo sushi for years until recently. The last three lunches have been a major disappointment. My wife and I always order the same lunch. Today was the worst sushi we have ever had. The server was grumpy. This place has fallen off our list of lunch places. Not recommended. read more

This is quickly becoming a favorite for my family. We love the early happy hour! I usually get my kids after school, and they will ask, "Kibo?". They have their standard order, my daughter gets the miso and 2 avocado rolls, and my son does the same except he orders 2 Philadelphia rolls. The serving size is very generous, and the ingredients are always fresh. I appreciate that the servers are kind and attentive to their needs. The place is kept dim, which can feel a bit more of an intimate setting even when just dining with my family. My son and I really like coming here for our mom son dates. Especially during happy hour. You'll find great deals at happy hour. I really like their miso soup too start and the dragon roll. If you're on a special diet like keto they have some great riceless options. Like the Cucumber roll, OMG roll, and a couple others. They're delicious. You can't tell you're missing rice. The service is pretty friendly but not consistent checking on the tables. We usually have to wave someone down for a refill or napkins. I love Kibo! We have been coming here for years and never had a bad experience. The restaurant is surprisingly really nice inside and always clean. There seems to consistently be a lot of workers around, so the service is usually pretty great. They have a large menu with lots of variety that is fairly priced. There are many unique sushi rolls to choose from. One of my favorites is the BBQ Roll. It comes with beef short rib and is so darn good! Probably the best part about this place is the Happy Hour. They have great Happy Hour options (appetizers, rolls, drinks, etc) every day from 3pm-5pm (I believe) and again from 8pm-close. It does tend to get a little more crowded during Happy Hour, but I have never had to wait long for a table. I always recommend Kibo for a good sushi spot in Ventura. read more

Used to be a regular here (15+ visits), however, contrary to what their website and Instagram advertises, they do not do Sunday all day happy hour. To start we sat at the counter area in front of the cooks. I don't think they realized we spoke Spanish because we heard them vulgarly talking about the female waitresses every-time they walked by. Disgusting behavior they need a sexual harassment course. Second I ordered the Salmon Sashimi for their 8pm happy hour and that same night I started throwing up and got food poisoning. NOT for sushi snobs. I'm not trying to write a negative review. My goal is to just forewarn people who are a little more discerning about the quality of their sushi. We found ourselves out in Ventura and wanted to grab a quick, light sushi lunch. After Yelping what was in the area, we saw Kibo had 4.1 stars and hundreds of reviews. Yelp hardly lets us down, but unfortunately this was one of those times. This establishment excels on the big portions and extensive food & drink options (think multi-page Cheesecake Factory-like menu). It seems people give it high ratings for the party-ish, happy hour. But, if you're looking for someplace that focuses on quality fish, appropriate portions and attention to details, this is not the place. The rolls reminded me of when we had a DIY sushi-making night. We bought all the right ingredients and YouTube a how-to video. Still, our inexperienced hands created these bloated, unsophisticated rolls that ate more like big rice balls with excess filling. Once again, I'm not trying to be harsh. This is just a helpful review for my fellow foodies who might find themselves in Ventura looking for sushi. read more

Came here with my girlfriend to take advantage of the happy hour offerings from 8-close. We came around 8:15 and were put on a waitlist and sat around 8:45 at the bar. Service was really fast and food came out equally as fast, even as the place was packed just 45 minutes to their closing time. Definitely take advantage of their $1 beers and happy hour menu. I've been passing by this sushi spot for years and never thought to take a chance on it, but now that I have I will absolutely be back! I've been at fancy sushi places that couldn't hold a candle to the freshness of Kibo. Every roll was perfectly tasty without the "fishy" taste that subpar sushi can have. Generous portions and a wide selection to choose from. Plus the beer and sake menu was great, they even had flavored soju! Luckily, we were there for happy hour. I was amazed at the extensive happy hour menu and the incredible prices! For about $20 each we left with full bellies of delicious sushi. I will absolutely be back.
