    Cucumber roll and avocado roll
    Sharon E.

Took an overnight trip to Ventura with my husband and we decided on the Sushi House for dinner as it was walking distance to our hotel. It is small and quaint with an outside patio as well as a few tables inside. We chose to sit inside and our server/host told us to sit wherever we liked. He was prompt in taking our drink order and upon returning we decided to try some edamame and the kappa cucumber salad for appetizers. The edamame was steamed and tasted like you would expect steamed edamame to taste. The cucumber salad was a touch underwhelming. The cucumber and daikon were fresh but the ponzu sauce lacked a strong flavor. We asked for additional dressing and our server was more than happy to oblige our request. For our entrees, I selected the Santa Rosa specialty roll and a yellowtail house roll. My husband ordered the cucumber roll, avocado roll and vegetable roll. All of our rolls came out together. They were fresh and I enjoyed the cucumber mixed into my yellowtail roll. The Santa Rosa roll had a nice spice level without overpowering the fish. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his vegetable roll. He said it was one of the best he's ever had. It was full of different veggies, including asparagus, avocado, cucumber and sprouts. Overall we enjoyed our taste of the Sushi House and would consider returning when visiting Ven

Super fresh fish this was a solid sushi spot. Great customer service as well. Parking is a battle

Came here in a whim . I've been hearing a lot about them so wanted to try them out since I was in the area. Nice service that's for sure . They keep everything pretty clean too. We ordered: Seared red snapper was too dry for my liking and didn't have much flavor to it. Escolar was good. Usually can't go wrong with this sushi . Toro came out instead what I actually ordered , yellowtail belly, but I didn't feel like saying anything since it already came out lol. It was good tho. Giant scallop wish it was cut better. But the consistency was great quality. California roll (not pictured) was pretty good. Overall the sushi was ok but if they worked on perfecting their rice (it was dry and tasteless. Hopefully I came on a bad rice day idk) they'd be so good especially with their location being right next to the beach. Plus they have a cool patio area to enjoy the nice weather.

I think this is our 3rd time here? Not too impressed with our dining experience... when we got here it wasn't busy "yet" but still felt a little forgotten out on the patio. It's a very tiny restaurant with a very tiny patio. They really could stand to upgrade their tables & chairs (especially the chairs!) it's all old stuff and super uncomfortable... It became very busy and one guy is running everything so our service was understandably poor. The food was just "ok" - one of their sushi specials was the halibut so my husband ordered it and said he didn't like it at all, it was tough. The seared garlic albacore was "good" but sadly seared with a blowtorch and we could taste it yuck! The rolls were pretty good... the Rincon Roll definitely did not have all the stuff in it that the menu described but still was tasty. We waited a long time to be checked on in between orders and when the guy finally came to ask if we were doing alright, we told him we'd like to order more food & he tells us it's really busy so it's probably going to be a while...? Ok? So are you discouraging us to not order more food? Well we did and Honestly it didn't take that long. But the appearance of the roll was not pretty, it looked rushed and plopped on the plate. I'm just being honest? One of the most beautiful things about the sushi experience is presentation and this experience was disappointing. Clearly they were Understaffed. This TOTALLY affected our dining experience which makes us think twice about where we're going to drop $150 on sushi. They needed at least 2 more servers and maybe another sushi guy? Just saying.

10/10 service and food!! Even though it was packed (well earned), the waiters and chefs were so fast. Fish tasted super fresh and was FLAVORFUL - new favorite Ventura spot!

Any idea if they offer anything gluten free? It's so hard at most sushi restaurants to find anything gluten free because soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, the seaweed wrapper as well as all tempura items have gluten...

We do have a variety of gluten free options as well as gluten free soy sauce just make sure to ask your server!…

Id like to start this review by mentioning that the store is definitely under new management. As…read morepreviously this restaurant would be a 4.5. But times have changed and so have the food. We ordered 5 things, 2 rolls, one meh, the cherry blossom, one expectedly good, the crunch (reliability good across all locations unless something is seriously wrong) And finally one so bad that it was sent back after my father and I tried one, the Thomason. My father ordered the chicken katsu, one worthy mention is the oiliness of this along with it being significantly more bread than chicken. Gyozas (fried) were equally oily and the sauce being entirely unflavored, in favor of more oil. Finally ambiance, leading back to the first point, it's certainly new management, as previously, the ambience was immaculate, the staff were mostly Japanese, the songs were good, and while the seating was certainly cramped, it felt natural in a very Japanese way. Now the previously mentioned tight-quarters is quite glaring, as the music is the classic mix of pop and rock that fills places with no identity, the staff are mostly Mexican, and while I have nothing against that, its quite weird to be in a Japanese restaurant listening to Spanish. Unfortunately I am one who reviews only when something extremely interesting happens with the food and location, and the interesting happenstance at this restaurant is how much it is not worth your time or money anymore.

I have no idea how I have missed reviewing this spot…read more We go to and work at the California Strawberry Festival every year coming from Mesa, AZ. It used to be in Oxnard, and we had a tradition of a group of us going out on the Saturday night of the two-day festival. It then moved to Ventura so it could use the county fairgrounds and be a larger gathering of people at the annual event. Since it moved, we decided to find a new place to eat. Originally, we picked out about three different places, from Yelp, of course. Drove to the first two and they were crowded with limited to no parking. So, we all ended up at Sushi Fresh and have not looked back. Great staff inside. Greeted and felt welcome from the start, we now look forward to returning and seeing the same smiling faces each visit. You know it is a terrific place when the staff does not have high turnover. The food is fantastic. The sushi rolls, edamame, etc. are wonderful but the best part is how many items they have that are not sushi, in case you come in with a group of diverse eaters. Personally, I go for the dinner box - pick any two entrees and it comes with rice, soup, salad, and your choices. I usually get a teriyaki chicken and a sesame chicken, but this time went with the teriyaki and a Mexican Roll. Loved it. Already looking forward to our next visit, next year. Highly recommend this place to friends and family year-round even though we get in just once a year. Totally worth it.

The food is good and consistent. Have great happy hour prices. Can get pretty busy so we like to…read morego early.
