We finally found great sushi in the Ventura area. Small but cool place with wonderful people. The Service (Lauren/Loren?)-excellent Cleanliness- efficient and friendly. Both our meals were incredible. Toro roll was so fresh the toro had a clean buttery flavor, so mild, obviously fresh. Katsu was very good- moist and tender. Everything was happily more than we expected. Will return to try the Avocado Bomb everyone was preserving. read more

It's a little hole in the wall that can be good sometimes, but not this one. Kind of looks dirty, which you don't want for a sushi house. The waitress doesn't speak English, which is fine, but not when they can't understand your order and bring you the wrong food. Will never go back there again. My husband thought it was deplorable. Fish quality is probably 2-3 stars if you're comparing it to upscale sushi restaurants but the service was 5 stars and most importantly the location of this restaurant. I was getting major cabin fever yesterday so I went for a drive with my mom and daughter and gave my mom an assignment of looking for a sushi restaurant that we can go to that had outdoor seating. She noticed this place was #1 on her google search so we checked it out. I did not have high expectations since I saw that it was close to the water. wonderful dinner by the beach! started with Shrimp vegetable tempura...so yummy light tempura batter. Moved on to the Caterpillar Roll and the Dynamite Roll...so fresh and tasty. The waitress working tonight had the nastiest attitude ever. The whole dining experience we had to deal with her passive aggressive comments and impatience. Throughout our meal we would order more items and she would say "To go?" in the most disgusting tone. Like geez. She even asked to bring our check out while we were still eating. We were there literally less than an hour. My family came in from out of town to have a nice meal and catch up. At one point my family member asked for "spicy sauce" and she responded "Sriracha" in the most annoyed and know it all demeanor. WTF sorry my older bilingual family member doesn't know the name for Sriracha. Not sure what was done to offend her or if she just had a bad day but from previous comments it looks like other people have also dealt with similar negative experiences from the staff here. The Santa Monica roll was one of the best sushi rolls I've ever tasted. The scallop on top were fresh and sweet and there were herbs and pops of yuzu that made it really lovely and complex. I went by myself around 5:30pm and service was great - fast and just attentive enough. read more

This place near the beach and not far from where my hotel was at near San Buenaventure state beach. Ate there 3 times even with In n Out right next to the hotel. Got the jalapenos and mushrooms all three times, they were fantastic. Thought the jalapenos might be too much heat but they were perfect and not too hot at all. Got a number of rolls and some nigiri, fish was fresh and the rolls were all very good. Tried seafood pasta and it was ok but nothing special. The place is rather small but also has some outside seating. It was never packed while I was there and the service was prompt and courteous. Would definitely recommend if staying the area. read more

Took an overnight trip to Ventura with my husband and we decided on the Sushi House for dinner as it was walking distance to our hotel. It is small and quaint with an outside patio as well as a few tables inside. We chose to sit inside and our server/host told us to sit wherever we liked. He was prompt in taking our drink order and upon returning we decided to try some edamame and the kappa cucumber salad for appetizers. The edamame was steamed and tasted like you would expect steamed edamame to taste. The cucumber salad was a touch underwhelming. The cucumber and daikon were fresh but the ponzu sauce lacked a strong flavor. We asked for additional dressing and our server was more than happy to oblige our request. For our entrees, I selected the Santa Rosa specialty roll and a yellowtail house roll. My husband ordered the cucumber roll, avocado roll and vegetable roll. All of our rolls came out together. They were fresh and I enjoyed the cucumber mixed into my yellowtail roll. The Santa Rosa roll had a nice spice level without overpowering the fish. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his vegetable roll. Placed a takeout order at 5:45pm tonight and was told it would be ready in 40 to 50 minutes. We arrived at 6:30pm and waited in line to check in. The hostess couldn't find our order but assured us it had been entered and said we were only waiting on shishito peppers because everything else was already made. After waiting another 15 minutes, we were then told they had just started making the rolls and no time could be guaranteed because they were busy. When we asked if the order had actually been placed when we called, she became very rude and defensive. We ended up canceling the order. When she pulled it up on the screen, it was timestamped 6:40pm, after we had already arrived. So the order had not been placed when we called, despite being told it was, and we were given false information about its status. Being busy is understandable. Lying and being openly rude to customers is not. Really disappointing experience. read more

Hubby and I were headed back to Santa Barbara from LA late one afternoon and found ourselves hungry for an early dinner. We decided to get off the 101 at Seaward and grab a bite at one of the restaurants down by the beach. The trick was that we were looking for something healthy, heavy on proteins and veggies and light on carbs, fats, and sugar. That ruled out all the burger and fries places and most of the Mexican menus we found by the beach. But, The Sushi House was a great fit for our dietary needs! (And it also had the highest Yelp ratings!) We both had the salmon teriyaki combo bowl which came with lots of beautiful, fresh veggies (carrots, cabbage, zucchini, and broccoli) and miso soup! The salmon portion was well-cooked, generous, and perfectly fresh. It hit the spot! We were particularly happy that they let our puppy join us at our corner patio table, where we could give her a bowl of water. Spent about 300.00 over 4th of July '25...all take out that was picked up. 1st order for Thursday they missed giving me part if my order. I did not call or make a fuss no matter they were asked that all was there. 4th the hostess was in dire need of simple etiquette training. Rude disposition and stingy with condiments. I graciously tipped 20% as I know servers make their money this way. Sushi was good but for this hostess-servers rude demeanor I'll never revisit this place. Sushi roles I had was excellent - I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Cucumber salad listed as a "must try" on the menu was just ok and sushi also wasn't amazing. Service was good and waiter was kind to offer me to charge my devises on the wall plug, albeit the owner or manager (?) at the end making an unfriendly comment about it. We went in the other night and got a Togo order fairly close to closing and the staff was all friendly. My personal favorite thing we got was the garlic mushroom edamame. The edamame was so fantastic. It was sautéed with fresh garlic, onions and mushrooms! That was some of the best edamame I have ever had!! The fish was all very fresh as well! Came here in a whim . I've been hearing a lot about them so wanted to try them out since I was in the area. Nice service that's for sure . They keep everything pretty clean too. We ordered: Seared red snapper was too dry for my liking and didn't have much flavor to it. Escolar was good. Usually can't go wrong with this sushi . Toro came out instead what I actually ordered , yellowtail belly, but I didn't feel like saying anything since it already came out lol. It was good tho. Giant scallop wish it was cut better. But the consistency was great quality. California roll (not pictured) was pretty good. Overall the sushi was ok but if they worked on perfecting their rice (it was dry and tasteless. Hopefully I came on a bad rice day idk) they'd be so good especially with their location being right next to the beach. Plus they have a cool patio area to enjoy the nice weather. read more

I think this is our 3rd time here? Not too impressed with our dining experience... when we got here it wasn't busy "yet" but still felt a little forgotten out on the patio. It's a very tiny restaurant with a very tiny patio. They really could stand to upgrade their tables & chairs (especially the chairs!) it's all old stuff and super uncomfortable... It became very busy and one guy is running everything so our service was understandably poor. The food was just "ok" - one of their sushi specials was the halibut so my husband ordered it and said he didn't like it at all, it was tough. The seared garlic albacore was "good" but sadly seared with a blowtorch and we could taste it yuck! The rolls were pretty good... the Rincon Roll definitely did not have all the stuff in it that the menu described but still was tasty. We waited a long time to be checked on in between orders and when the guy finally came to ask if we were doing alright, we told him we'd like to order more food & he tells us it's really busy so it's probably going to be a while...? Ok? So are you discouraging us to not order more food? Well we did and Honestly it didn't take that long. But the appearance of the roll was not pretty, it looked rushed and plopped on the plate. I'm just being honest? One of the most beautiful things about the sushi experience is presentation and this experience was disappointing. Clearly they were Understaffed. This TOTALLY affected our dining experience which makes us think twice about where we're going to drop $150 on sushi. They needed at least 2 more servers and maybe another sushi guy? This sushi spot showed up on my Instagram feed and decided to give it a try since I never been or heard about it before. As an avid sushi eater, I like to try different sushi restaurants in my area. Let's start off with the ambiance, it is a small little restaurant with some outdoor seating on the side and maybe 3 large table that sit 4 and 2 tables that can sit two people. I think there is also a "bar" area but very small and seemed a little crowded to sit there. My sister and I came on a Saturday so parking in this area is little to no parking so if you are hangry or an impatient Parker, don't come on a weekend. When we arrived we had the choice to sit outside on a bigger (park like) table or a small table for two indoors. It was chilly so we decided to eat inside with the smaller table. The only reason why I am mentioning this is because I like to order multiple rolls and was afraid of not having enough room on the table. Anyways, we were given time to look at our menu and the waitress asked if we were ready. It kind of felt like she wanted us to order everything at once as more people where coming and wasn't a lot of tables (meaning appetizers and rolls) so I did, in hopes of it being received in that order. Unfortunately our food was served to us in complete weird order. I got my oysters (which were an appetizer) after my rolls. Not only that but i had 3 rolls plus my sisters appetizer on this little table and then the waiter some how expects me to move stuff around to add the oysters to this tiny table. I honestly don't like complaining but this really made my experience feel so rushed and careless. But the food was absolutely immaculate. The fish was fresh tasting and the flavor was impactful. Each bite made me want to cry. What we ate: - Calamari: Sister said it was pretty good light and crunchy. - Oysters: Huge and fresh! Could barely eat in one bite lol Wish I had Tabasco sauce though but I added soy sauce. - Baked salmon roll: My little sister absolutely devoured this roll. This baked salmon roll had avocado in it and I was worried she wouldn't like it (as she doesn't like avocado) but she said it was one of the best baked salmon rolls she's ever had. - Sushi House roll: this was absolutely a must try. All the flap towers there and I kept want another bite! - Santa Barbara Roll: the tuna, salmon and yellowtail were yummy and fresh tasting. I wanted to get more rolls but unfortunately I just felt like there was not enough room and didn't want to get anything else. Overall, the food is absolutely amazing and I do recommend coming here just maybe not on a busy day or when you're hangry lol. I normally don't like giving low ratings but the service kind of threw the vibe off. If I could it's give it 3.5, as the food was amazing and I understand that it's busy and maybe the waiter just wanted to make sure everything was placed and people could sit. read more

Really, really good sushi. We ordered four rolls and all were fantastic. The service was great from start to finish. The prices are much appreciated. It's not rock bottom cheap but not over the top either. The prices are at a real sweet spot. The vibe is pretty cool. Small beach shack feel. My friend and I ordered takeout from Sushi House last night and I was not disappointed! It was ready within 10 minutes and we were stuffing our faces within 15. I don't often order rolls with raw fish but decided to take a walk on the wild side and order the Hueneme Roll which was so fresh and tasty, I'm so happy to have found a roll I genuinely like. My friend ordered the Lemon Drop which was good but not my favorite. We also enjoyed yakisoba with chicken, the portion size was HUGE. I'll be eating it over the next 3 days I suspect. And lastly we got the edamame which comes with garlic, mushroom, and onions and was soooo tasty. I've never had edamame like that before! Will definitely be back. read more

Been here enough times now, time for the review! Upon walking in I was greeted immediately ( it's fairly small inside ) but the sushi bar has a lot of seating. I've had a lot from here. But as others have said and still stands true. The avocado bomb here is famous and a well known. You truly can't go wrong with ordering this. I've had plenty of their sushi and kitchen items. Some of my favorites are the soft shell crab, salmon tartar and well of course.. I already said it, avocado bomb. The fish is fresh. Never had a bad experience with their food here. The staff is very nice and welcoming. There is nice outside seating and plenty of parking ( lot right across the street ) So why 4 stars instead of 5? Well.. the inside is rather outdated. A bit of "design" clutter that isn't needed. Other then that? you can't go wrong here. You'll enjoy their sushi and the atmosphere. This is by far the GO TO sushi spot in Ventura. read more

This restaurant is on a street 30 seconds from the beach and is the essence of Ventura, not fancy but good food and vibes, small, locals and tourists from renting the surrounding beach houses will be your fellow patrons.
