This is a great Puerto Rican restaurant! I haven't seen a lot of PR restaurants in the states but I'm proud to finally see one and amazed that they offer Mofongo as a dish. I ate here twice during my visit, I had the pork Mofongo and the shrimp Mofongo and OMG it took me back to the island! Not many people that this dish is extremely hard to make right and these people make it right. You get a lot of food for what you pay for so be careful with how much you order. The first night I ordered rice and beans with my Mofongo and I couldn't touch my rice and beans because I was so full from the Mofongo alone. So I highly recommend this restaurant and if you have never had Puerto Rican food then you need to stop by and have a Mofongo right away! read more

I don't live near this restaurant but there aren't a lot of puerto rican restaurants in Dutchess County. On my wifes birthday I ordered dinner for 4 from Izla and sent my daughter on the 40 minute drive to pick it up. When she returned home an hour and ten minutes later I realized that Izla neglected to include one of the rice sides I had ordered. An honest mistake I thought so I called IZLA and asked them to simply credit the cost of the side to my credit card since it didn't make sense to make the 70 minute round trip for a side order. They flat out refused to credit my card stating that my only option was to come back and pick up the rice THEY forgot to include. I asked to speak to a manager and they refused and when I pressed the issue they hung up on me. Needless to say I won't be returning to this poorly run establishment. Anything I ordered with ground beef was had no flavor. the pastelijos (empanadas) were tasteless it was like browned ground beef put in the shell and I ordered 14 so everyone could try them . I've ordered from Izla about half a dozen times and the food is always great. Authentic Puerto Rican food with no gimmicks. This place serves good food but the service I received today 7/8/2020 was terrible. I support my local businesses and my family orders from this place a lot, and especially during this pandemic when businesses are closing down due to state restrictions. But today was exceptionally bad service that I never received here before and I had to put it up. Please get better servers or train your employees to treat customers in a pleasant manner/humane manner at the least and leave the attitude at home. They are in a customer service industry and businesses either thrive or fold depending on the quality of their service they provide to their customers, and especially local customer who are trying to keep small businesses afloat. The girl that served my food was straight up nasty to me. She basically threw my food on the pickup table and walked away while I was asking her for some additional steak sauce. This establishment is portraying itself to be authentic Puerto Rican food. The food is not. It is also Over priced. Service is subpar at best. The vibe inside is of a school lunch cafeteria. Food is served on lunch trays in take out containers with plastic utensils.There is no system in place of serving the tables. No table numbers or anything to distinguish what goes where other than the employee who took your order at the counter's memory. The food was brought out by behind the counter workers and orders were placed on wrong tables. Then after the employee and that wrong guest received that meal the meal was carried yet again to the correct table. The wait time was 30 minutes plus for seated dining in guests and the biggest red flag was that when entering the establishment there is no smell of food so obviously everything is reheated. The flan was pale and had no caramel sugar on it. Boricuas you know what I mean! I don't recommend nor will I patron again. read more

This review is tough because of how different this restaurant is since it is counter service and then they deliver the food (think of it like an unorganized Panera). Ordering: 1 star but would be zero in reality. They have two registers to place orders. There are no signs so everyone is grabbing menus and crowding around the entry way. Some patrons try to organize a line while others try to just jump in. Overall it's chaos and the employees do nothing to help. When the person in front of us finished ordering we went to the register the employee looked at us and walked 5 feet away to look at order tickets while there were 5-6 other employees there just standing around. We stood there like fools trying to figure this out then the person at the other register decided he could take our order. After we ordered we were told the food would take 40 minutes. Shocked, but since we already ordered, we stayed. The real issue here is that management needs to organize and have enthusiastic employees. Everyone at or behind the counter moved in slow motion and had the demeanor of a person whose dog had just died. Try hustling and smiling and the customer experience will be greatly improved. Dining Area: 1 star. The chairs have to be the most uncomfortable ones I've ever encountered and are metal so when people move them it sounds like a crash. Seating is cafeteria style and while the tables are fine, if someone needs to join at the other side you have to get up to allow them to pass. It's very cramped even though the space is large enough. Food: 5 stars. My wife had the Ropa Vieja with fried plantains and red beans and I had the Pollo Ajillo with red beans and rice. All were very good and the red beans were excellent! The garlic sauce for the chicken appeared almost like an Alfredo sauce which looked strange but was quite tasty. Beverages were fountain drinks. Also, no alcohol if that's important to you but we were fine with soda. Server (food runner): 3 Stars. She was actually the only employee we encountered that showed any personality. She was as efficient as she could be in their setup. They don't have trays so they just bring as much as they could carry and make multiple trips. The silverware they give you when you order us a fork and a spoon, so when she was arriving for last trip we said we needed knives. She said she knew that based on what we ordered and already had it...one knife for us to share (strange). Additionally, food arrived in 15 minutes instead of the 40 we were told. Overall, I will definitely have their food again but think I'd only do takeout instead of eating there. Also, takeout has a separate entrance which is just the other side of the counter, but will avoid the chaos of the restaurant dining side. read more

Food was terrible. Service was also terrible - counter girl couldn't even adequately describe the food. When we ordered lunch, they said it would take 20 minutes - it took over 30. That's a long time to wait for not even a real sit down lunch - it's counter service. & because it took so long, I at least expected the pernil to be pan fried or crisped up in some way. The food looked like it was literally slapped on the plate - it definitely shouldn't take that long to do that. Further, my daughters kids meal contained a huge plate of rice with about the dinkiest chicken leg you could possibly imagine. My mother's mofungo was dry & tasteless - she even left almost all of it there. Also, garlic or green sauce was nothing but vinegar. Our office decided to try lunch here and it was the worst. The food arrived cold and was sent without sauces or utensils. It was a fairy large order. The pork was overly salty and slightly under cooked. When my coworker called to ask about the utensils and sauces, she was put on the phone with the manager, Jessica, and she could not have been ruder. Shame on her lack of managerial skills. She told my coworker that if we didn't like it, we should just get what we paid refunded from the credit card company. Unprofessional! Then she told my coworker, "have a nice day" and hung up the phone on her. Wow! Never again will we order or go there. We are a large office and patients are always asking for recommendations. 3 stars because the food was good not great I'm guessing those that rated 5 stars haven't been to Puerto Rico or even the Bronx .when I go out for Spanish food it better be tastier than my Spanish food. I would go again if I didn't feel like cooking but would not sit at the restaurant. Not cozy, seats are not comfortable they're metal like eating at a cafeteria and for the price of any meat you get 2 sides I would think rice and beans go together not counted as 2 sides they should at least give you salad but that's a la carte. We just tried this place for the first time and it was truly amazing. The staff was so friendly and helpful, offering input and guidance on our first time visit. We did take out, which was ready pretty quickly for how busy they were. The food traveled so well, and was still the perfect temperature 35 minutes after we left the restaurant. I did place a take out order during COVID, and I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. I always wanted to try this place and get a taste of home (Puerto Rico). I ordered chicharron de pollo (deep fried chicken chunks) with white rice and tostones. The chicken was very dry, and the tostones was not very flavorful. There was no garlic provided, which is a must I must say. The rice was the only thing great. I loved how it tasted, the only thing I was mad about was how the beans was extra. Omg the fried avocado wedges are amazing... they come with some amazing fruity dipping sauce(I think it's passionfruit) . Together it's sweet, crunchy, but the avocado is still creamy. Empanadas weren't anything special - could've used more flavor. read more

One star! Why? I have 50 years experience eating Puerto Rican food, in the states and in Puerto Rico. Nothing that my friend (a Latina) and I ate at Izla tasted anything like "real" Puerto Rican food. We had Arroz con Pollo, Pernil, Arroz con gandules, plantain maduros, Tostones, frijoles negros (black beans), Yuca con mojo and flan. The Arroz con Pollo was made with chunks of white meat chicken & potatoes - no chicken on the bone, no dark meat at all. No olives. No flavor! Nada! In all my years I never had Arroz con pollo without chicken on the bone and some olives or capers. Nor was it made with chunks of potatoes! The Pernil was dry, not a hint of garlic or oregano or any other spice for that matter. Tasteless. The Arroz con gandules was passable, barely. The Tostones were ok as was the Plantain maduros. The Yuca was terrible! The black beans had no flavor either. And the flan, tasted like bread pudding. Go to the Maya Café, nearby, and asked for their flan. If you are unfamiliar with Puerto Rican food and you want to try it, this is not the place. If you are familiar with the food and have dreamt of having it somewhere in the in the Hudson Valley, this is not the place. read more

Bad atmosphere. Thought and hope it would be a restaurant type place and authentic but it like a cafeteria. Order at a counter and get your soda or water from a fountain. Very uncomfortable chairs that you can't sit up straight to eat in. Food was so bad and tasteless. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the food is pretty good - but unfortunately as other reviewers have mentioned the customer service & execution of this place is atrocious. We've gotten take out from there 3 different times & it's been 3 different experiences, the place has zero consistency & the staff just doesn't seem to care. The first time we went, I ordered inside, waited about 10-15 min & it was pretty great, the price was reasonable & we had leftovers for the next day. The second time, they told me it would be 20-30 min, I arrived 40 min later, & the guy behind the counter chuckled when he realized no one had even started my order yet. They had to sub a side as they ran out of plantains (not sure how a Puerto Rican restaurant can), if they would have started the order 40 min prior when I called it wouldn't have been an issue. I waited another 10 min & they gave me a tres leches cake as a consolation but the whole thing came off as really unprofessional, there's 4 or 5 people working behind the counter & everyone just seemed in a daze. I just had our third/most recent takeout experience there, & while I didn't have to wait for my food this time we opened it up to find that all of the portions of meat were half the size they usually were with an extra side of white rice I didn't even order. My friend had also gone with me & tried to take pernil & rice to go but was told he would have to wait at least 25 min - again I'm not sure how this is possible as we were literally staring at the food & all that had to be done was scoop it. I'm sure I'll be back as we love the food, I really want this place to succeed but I guarantee it'll go out of business if they keep up the awful customer service & long wait times.
