I've only eaten here once, during a very slow lunch hour for them, but was very happy with my choice. I got the almond-crusted trout, with two vegetable sides (green beans and steamed broccoli), as well as the redlands house salad with a vinagrette dressing on the side. The salad came first, though it took much longer than I would have expected for them to bring (considering they should be pre-made and only require finishing touches before going out), but it was a hearty enough salad. Plenty of egg, cheese, bacon, and actual vegetables to make it worthwhile. The fish was surprisingly not slow coming, they plopped down this GIANT piece of fish right as I finished my salad. Large enough I thought it'd be two meals, easily, and they had enough vegetables that I would be more than enough left over to have two servings there as well. Trout was perfectly cooked, with a good (almond-induced) crunch that wasn't too distracting from the flavor and texture of the fish. Vegetables were topped with oil, garlic, and parmesean cheese, which was unexpected and unnecessary, but not exactly a bad thing. There were several stops on my list during my visit here and I'm glad I didn't skip this place. I started with the Thai Kai salad. It had a bed of mix greens covered with chicken, peanuts, and tossed in a mix of cilantro vinaigrette and Thai peanut sauce. It was a great Asian inspired salad. My friend had the Steak Maui and potatoes. I had a small it and from what I could tell it was really good. The service was average, nothing to rave about. Tried the house made veggie burger! 10 out of 10. It's delicious great size and flavor, comes with shoes string fries which I'm not a fan of.. flavor was good they are just so thin... lol But if you are looking for veggie friendly options they have you covered. What a big disappointment. We had reservations and got seated on time. It was so cold there that the men complained about how cold it was there. He told the server, and her reply was, "We keep it cool for the cooks." Our dinner guest told the server, "If you don't keep your customers comfortable, you won't have to worry about the cooks because you won't have any customers. Ate here tonite for Valentines Day. This was our first time dining here and we were very pleased. Our server was Kayleigh and she was very professional, polite, knowledgeable and attentive. The ambiance was very romantic and perfect for the occasion. I had prime rib which was delightful--hardly any fat and very falvorful. Plus a large side of mashed potatoes and an ala carte side of haricot verts. They were out of the artichoke appetizer which was just as well because my Kai Thai salad was HUGE--at least twice as big as most other salads. Basically an Oriental salad with chicken. However, once getting the burgers home, there was no condiments, glaze on the burger, or utensils for the side. Also, the potatoes were heavily salted on the outside. Delicious! If you're in the mood for a steak, Steak Maui is a great choice. It's grilled to perfection, topped with a nice glaze and extremely tender. The mashed potatoes are creamy and full of flavor. The special Cajun Trout with coleslaw and oven roasted cauliflower (instead of rice) was good as well if your in the mood for something spicy. The cauliflower was perfectly seasoned and just the right textured. However, I would recommend getting a different side other than the coleslaw because it was on the dry side. Lastly, if your in the mood for dessert you MUST try their carrot cake, even if you're not a fan you will be a fan of theirs. Great experience at this place I had never heard of before. I'm new in town so I'm glad to be exploring all these great places that are new to me. I've been told it's a regional chain and it was in the same parking lot as an outdoor mall with other types of restaurants around. They had a very friendly hostess who showed us to our table. I had the Bayou pasta which included crab, shrimp, and scallops with a white sauce. Was good and had a bit of zing to it with the spices! Other had the grilled salmon, chicken salad, and chicken platter with Brussels sprouts. The chicken platter was amazing and came with two sauces for dipping. My husband and I went to Norwood to do a little shopping and decided to try Redlands Grill by J. Alexander's. I was expecting this place to be a burger place but was little confused when we walked in to see that it was a really fancy place and I expected the prices to be so high that we could only afford a side salad or something. After waiting for our waiter for about 15 minutes, and almost leaving, we were finally greeted and provided drinks. We were there for lunch and I was surprised by their exceptional menu choices. I had the macadamia crusted codfish and broccoli and my husband had the chicken tender, fries, and coleslaw. My fish was so delicious. I loved it. The broccoli was another thing. I was expecting just regular steamed broccoli with a little salt, butter and possibly pepper - but they made the broccoli with some sort of fancy cheese (that I couldn't see) and it tasted like strong lemon on broccoli- which I didn't like. I'll know for next time. There is a bar area in the front of the restaurant which has televisions. I would have requested to eat there, just so we would have something to look at while waiting for our meals. I'll know for next time. I felt underdressed because I believe I was the only one wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, so next time, I'll try to look a little better. LOL. The kitchen is open and it appeared that the food was made fresh to serve. I would always pay a little more to have freshly made food rather than food that has been packaged, microwaved or whatever they do with some of the "fake" food that's out there. Redland's Grill AKA J. Alexanders down south (TN and GA) is a long time favorite of mine that I've been going to over the years in the other aforementioned states. I was pleased to find that the restaurant and dishes I've grown to enjoy over the years are pretty much the same. Even though it's a chain, I have always been able to count on J. Alexanders providing a quality meal. I usually only ever order a few things when I visit and you can't go wrong with them in my opinion. Appetizer Recommendation: * Spinach and Artichoke Dip - Their version is a perfect appetizer with plenty to share for a table of 4. This spinach dip is the one which has always set the standard for me and other places hardly ever compare. * Calamari - Pretty standard option but it's not chewy at all which is good as you can ask for when eating squid. Dinner Recommendation: * Chicken Fingers - Yes, I said chicken fingers. They have perhaps the best chicken fingers I've ever had. They are always perfectly fried, fresh and tender. The plate and portion is massive. It doesn't hurt that their BBQ and Honey Mustard is excellent for dipping not only the chicken but the fries as well. * Filet - Don't dismiss the steak here. It is right on up there in quality with any steak you can order. Dessert: * Carrot Cake - My favorite type of cake and theirs is one of the best. If you love carrot cake, then this is a must try. Menu Hack: * Ask for a basket of croissants with your meal. They are freshly baked and topped with honey butter, almost like eating a dessert. We frequent this restaurant at least twice monthly. For such a long time the same very respectful head hostess has greeted us with great respect. Last evening we were greeted by the most incredibly rude younger woman! Jim called ahead, as he always does, for our usual 7:30pm reservation. The parking lot was packed, Jim dropped me off so I could check us in. Ms. Hostess said we did not have a reservation and she would need to see our text. I was standing there while I watched several other couples put on a wait list, I was not. When Jim finally arrived, he told her he did have a text but deleted it since he's never needed it before. I miss dining out but safety is most important to me as I have a 73 year old mom with several pre-existing conditions. J. Alexanders is the pinnacle of great food and even better service. My friends and I were in Nashville for a Half Marathon and was introduced to J Alexander's by a family friend. The restaurant though a chain had a good hometown feel to it. The atmosphere was casual but upscale with dark lighting. We were seated immediately and our waiter was to our table in minutes. He was very gracious and answered every question we had about the menu. That night we ordered the Kale salad with bacon. Most of my party did not want their bacon, so I asked for their portion of bacon. My main meal was sirloin steak burger with arugula and thousand island dressing and fries. With my dish I also asked for extra arugula. What I loved about J. Alexander was that not only did they bring me the extra bacon from the delicious kale salad, but also the extra arugula with no extra charge. The food was very flavorful and was brought to the table quickly. One of the ladies in my party ordered club soda while the rest of us ordered water. Anytime our water glass became low, the passing waiter or waitress would refill our glass without us asking. The patron who ordered club soda was asked if she would like another, which she did. The waitress noticed that she had a lime in her previous glass, and without her asking, brought her a fresh lime. That was great service. When we received our bill, the waiter made a very positive attempt to pronounce our names and provide us all with the correct checks. That was also a very nice touch. J. Alexander, though a chain is a wonderful restaurant to take on a date or a quiet night out. It is formal without being stuffy. This a good restaurant with good food. It's a little pricey but you get big portions for what you're paying. They have wine, beer, and other alcoholic beverages. They're good for brunch, lunch, and dinner. It's a little bit dark in there so it can be hard to see but it's nice and quiet. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive.
