As we got out to the car, one friend remembered he forgot his leftovers. Went back and box was already gone. It was actually 1/4 of a burger. Manager said we will make you a whole new burger. He said no no no no need. The manager insisted. Asked what he wanted on the burger and if he wanted fries and he said actually, it was just for my dog i.e. a real doggy bag. Although I would normally give this restaurant a positive review, I am offended by a $4.08 "package fee" they have added to carry-out orders. Took friends to dinner at this location. Had the French dip. I highly recommend this dish. Everything was wonderful. My friend ordered the same dish and had the macaroni and cheese as a side. The Mac and cheese was fabulous. My other friend ordered the burger with smashed potatoes. The potatoes were so good. Service was amazing. I had an amazing experience here! I ordered a Filet and it was really good. They had a special crab dips and they were really good too. When we were ordering dessert, the waiter asked if we've tried the carrot cake and when we said no, they gave us a carrot cake on the house. I am usually not a fan of carrot cake but the carrot cake here was so good. I will definitely order it when I come back. The seats have candles lit and the lights were dimmed. I brought my brother to this J Alexander's on a Tuesday night. The place was packed! We barely found a parking space in the huge parking lot. My brother is a vegan and I wanted him to try the veggie burger. Surprisingly, we were seated right away in a nice corner booth. Olivia was our server and it was only her second day at J Alex. She did a wonderful job considering the huge dinner rush. My brother ordered the veggie burger without cheese or mayo. The glaze on top of the burger looked amazing and the lettuce and tomato on the top bun were incredibly fresh. The lettuce was so crisp. He loved the whole meal! It was one of the best burgers ever. My Ahi Tuna Salad was a 10 out of 10. The tuna was perfectly seared and the salad was so fresh. It was delicious! My side of broccoli was amazing as well. We ordered the Four Vines Zinfandel. It was very fruit forward. We liked it. We also had the amazing carrot cake. It was warm with a nice melted frosting. Our night at J Alexander's was excellent. After many visits, we wound up with a poor server ce from heather. She did not have a table that we requested, there was an open table that she said had to be utilized at 5, it was currently 3:20 pm. She had an attitude from the very beginning of our visit, and our reservation was for 6 people. We had to wait till at least to people left their table. What a wonderful start to the weekend by going to J's. We started off by sharing the redwood salad and it was excellent - the chicken in it was really good- you could order this as your meal and be satisfied. We also went with the crispy shrimp appetizer and this is filling as well so to the sauce - but it's so tasty I definitely say to try it out. For entree I had the French dip and it was cooked to perfection and the horseradish sauce is a must get with this - so good! We also had the full slab of ribs and these were cooked to perfection BUT we weren't a fan of the bbq sauce - it was too sweet. The fries here are really good and I would skip the coleslaw. Had a nice experience at J Alexander's. I will give it a 6. I ordered a prime rib medium on a hot plate. I will say I know most places don't know what that means so when the plate wasn't hot I wasn't pressing the issue. What I am pressing is that I left around 6:30-7p. I mistakingly left my to go bag. Someone took it to the front . When I called back they had already tossed it But when I called to rectify the issue they gave me and entire new order to go. I have Been going here at least 10 years and today they charge $4.00 to split a salad onto two plates and another $4.00 to cut A 16 Oz prime rib between my son and I to cut two it on to two plates. We declined the the cutting charge for the salad and the prime rib. My son ordered a soup appetizer and we each had 0ne glass of wine . This place is very nice. Has a huge bar which is where I sat because I am I am dining alone. I Just had the filet kabobs. Probably will NOT order these again. I requested them to be cooked medium rare. What I got was medium to medium well. I have never had a tough filet until tonight. It was tough to cut and to eat. The vegetables on the kabob were not evenly cooked. They ranged from raw to mush. Very disappointing for such a high rated restaurant. The bartender took great care of me. He was pleasant and was quick to welcome me and serve me. The only downfall, he asked me how was my dinner, I said it's ok in a dissatisfied tone. He restated what I said and I replied with the same dissatisfied tone that it was ok. He left it at that. I am not complaining about his reaction because I have a cardinal rule to never send my food back to be replaced or expect to not pay for my dinner as long as I can eat it. I just know to never order steak from this place again. Sorry I did not take a picture of my dinner. Do I recommend this place, yes, great place for a date night. Came here after Christmas shopping and ordered the baked goat cheese and the Hong Kong shrimp for appetizers. Both were absolutely delicious. Had the Hyde park chicken sandwich and that was very good as well. My friend had the chicken Milanese which I tried and it was delicious. I will be getting that next time. I've been here a few times and it's a really nice restaurant. It's a huge space with a bar area and plenty of tables. I was recently there on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. Pear martini is well balanced, delicious, and worth a try. Key lime pie with espresso is a sweet and savory treat - another must have. Other menu items such as burgers, steaks, and fish is hit or miss. Crispy chicken platter is worth a try so is the pasta soup. The service is typically very good and attentive. So I was boring and just ordered a club sandwich which was fine but I got a side of vegetables instead of fries and had the bartender pick for me she got me the broccoli was freaking amazing! This is a reliable outpost of that great brand. service: Bar staff was busy, but professional. Food runners were super polite. We had a reservation and hostess canceled politely when we got seats at the bar. bar: My Bulleit Rye Manhattan ($16 as of 02/2024) was fantastic and with the correct Luxardo cherry. Typical great wine list of all J. Alexanders. food: My wife always gets the Thai Kai ($19) and this version is exactly like all others, which is to say fantastic! I ventured out and tried the Hong Kong Shrimp ($18) as my entrée. Although touted as an appetizer, this was a great dish! details: The place was crowded on a Saturday night. Reservations recommended. Plenty of surface parking right outside. This interior is more open than many J. Alexanders. The high vaulted ceiling makes the room feel much more open. read more

Time for an update after 2 years. First of all, all of the people at the hostess stand were friendly, kind, and accommodating. They honored the time of our reservation even though I thought it might be a problem with how very busy it was, every table was taken. If one has to wait to be seated there is not a particularly good space to wait, one is left standing in the doorway. Our waiter was as wonderful and delightful as the hostesses. I wish I'd gotten his name so the managers could know just how charming and attentive I thought he was. The fish I ordered was over-seasoned. It came with heaping mounds of rice and Cole slaw. I also ordered fries because I've been craving fries but had forgotten that they are thin, I prefer thick fries but they, too, were a heaping mound. I didn't ask my dining partner how the fish tacos were but I know they are pretty dependably good. It's not inexpensive but I think it's a pretty good value. Also know that they have a very large bar area, a very large parking lot, and outdoor dining. read more
