I made an offhanded comment to my friend about this, and the owner/associate chimed in that the wall wasn't smooth, so a mirror couldn't be mounted. And by chimed in, I mean, in a confrontational tone, saying "you might notice the wall isn't smooth, so...etc. etc." I sincerely doubt some semblance of mirror can't be hung on a wall with edges and grooves. Not to mention, I wasn't even talking to her. 2) At one point, my friend forgot to take her hanger out of the fitting room, and the owner/associate made a comment about how if you don't bring out all the hangers, it makes her think something was stolen. The best part of this is that my friend put her backpack outside of the fitting room initially to make it clear she wasn't stealing. However, the backpack was blocking the back door so she asked my friend to move it (that made sense, but why over-explain/bring up theft at all). Her manner of explaining and her tone made the whole thing so aggressive and awkward. Something similar happened when I took my mask off to change and went outside the fitting room to look in the mirror. She told me to put it on and went into this long soapbox speech about how she's here all day, etc. etc. I simply forgot to put it back on as I moved from the fitting room to the mirror - telling me to wear it would've sufficed without the histrionics. I am just as concerned about the virus as she is. 3) I feel like the owner/associate was looking over my shoulder the entire time. I don't think it was a race thing, as my friend is lily white, but who knows. I just wanted some 80's clothes, since I go to 80's cover concerts every month, and I got this lovely experience instead. Perhaps she is used to dealing with rude Hollywood types, as the website says they sometimes provide clothing for shows. Her energy certainly matches those types. I am now looking at other reviews from POCs and it seems this is a common theme for this business. AVOID. Go to Hamlet's Village instead.

If you're in the market for a pink ballgown or a logo t shirt, this may be the place for you. But you have to enjoy feeling like you're bothering the sales staff by merely being there. You'll get ALLL the friendliness you need in an equivalent store in Japan: Maybe even too much, honestly. My partner was treated well consigning a fall jacket, and that's done partly electronically now, including making the appointment and receiving your estimate. The employees at Beacon's Closet may be more polite but they make you wait around for your estimate like a dog. Tokyo Joe's does not: They will send it to you afterwards. *There's also high turnover of merchandise in the tiny store: When you're not there there's a ton of activity behind the scenes.

So when Kitschy Flower announced a vintage doll live sale and holiday event at the shop, I knew I could not miss it. I gathered up some of my most fashionable to attend. We did the RSVP on line. Some last minute guest tagged along and also went to shopping. There was an array of treats and fun beverages. So lovely to see the Mickey (Mickey Boardman) and Baby Lynnie (Lynn Yaeger) did their Friday live show from the event and Cole (Kitschy Flower from Atlanta) popped in showing the doll highlights. Everyone working was insanely stylish and adorable. I could put them in my pocket. The doll fans were also dressed to impressed. I was so happy to feel the holiday energy and the creativity from the event. I knew I had to leave with a new little friend. I snagged an adorable kewpie baby. My friends found vintage clothing and jewelry that they had to take home. Everything was reasonable for what we got. Some items are more expensive since they are more rare. I got a mushroom avocado kimbap from Kimbap Lab, and it was exactly what we needed - large rolls of sweet rice, fresh vegetables, and smooth avocado with meaty mushrooms, all wrapped in a slick seaweed sheet. Just enough to fill our bellies but not slow us down as we ventured further into the Market. If you're doing the same, stop into Kimbap Lab at Pearl River for the perfect snack.
