We took a year and a half to make up our minds what kind of roof shingle we wanted for our home. That being said, it only took me to the time of the estimate to decide that we would hire J& J Roofing for our residential project. We had several estimates from other local roofing companies and needless to say they were neither professional (untimely with estimates or pricing) or knowledgeable of the various tiles as they applied to our home. Jush prepared at least four estimates promptly for us over that time period when we were going through the choosing tile process. He was consistently pleasant and informative. Justin was the coordinator for the onset of the project and again super nice and professional. It is rare to find folks out there that not only know what they are talking about but are genuinely nice. They replaced our entire good-sized roof in 5 days. Just got off my second phone call with this company. I am in escrow right now and I was told that they have someone specifically that handles escrow bids, that it looks like they have an opening for the time I needed, and that they would call me back to confirm their availability. Well, it's the day of and nobody got back to me yesterday so I called back. DO NOT USE FOR ESCROW BIDS. It is apparent they don't put them at high priority and now I am stuck without someone to make a bid during my inspections today. I was told: I'm sorry someone didn't get back to you and tell you, we are normally booked weeks in advance. Well here's some advice: Let EVERYONE in your office know, or at least your scheduler, that you are booked weeks in advance. This was a no brainer gone dumb. I don't write many reviews. I know that makes me a bad yelper (and probably a bad person) but when something is so outstanding (or so bad) I have to give a shout out. Mike Glass at J&J Roofing was absolutely incredible. They not only gave me a great quote, did the work on time, but they also took care of some post-installation problems with out any hassle and did so in a way I consider to be above and beyond. The entire process with J&J really went like that. Each email was replied to with a great amount of time and effort and far exceeded any communication I've had with any other business, let alone any contractor (which, in my experience, have been always tough to get to use email well). Called and spoke to Shane. They said they're not scheduling until springtime of 2016. They must be very busy from everyone scared about El Nino rains. At least they're doing the responsible thing and not trying to overbook themselves and providing poor customer service. I found the same thing from other companies. This is an awesome company. We used them back in 2011 to repair a significant part of our tile roof. Many companies suggested that we replace our original tile, but Mike said there was no reason to undertake a brand new roof (at a hefty price). He even told us that we could hold off on a small portion of the roof if we wanted to as it would hold up for another 5+ years and here we are 6 years later needing to replace that smaller portion...just as he said! Sorry to say, I had a dreadful experience with this company, that caused me to spend a lot of extra money (after I was forced to fire them and hire someone else), and put me at risk of a really terrible job, just avoided, thank God. Here's what happened: after a fair though not cheap bid for replacing a very old roof on a garage apartment and all the decayed facia board, things went well with the tear off and nail down of plywood, but started to go south fast, the moment the "facia board" arrived on site, and I use that term guardedly. A contractor who saw it later said it looked like old, rotted douglas fir that had been pulled off another roof, painted badly, and brought to me. In addition, while the 4 sides of the roof needed runs of 24' each, these boards were only 10' long, which meant that each side would have 10'x10'x4' lengths nailed together. I stopped the work immediately, and the next day told Matt at J and J that proper facia board in the right lengths, pre-treated for insects, sanded, and pre-primed, was available at our local Stock Lumber, and that I'd be happy to pay extra for it. He apologized for the lousy facia board of the day before, but instead of jumping on my offer, continued to try to convince me to use douglas fir--rarely used in roofing as it's a favorite of termites and also not durable enough for exterior use. At that point I began to realize something fishy was up--either J and J knew nothing about roofing (unlikely), they had too many douglas fir boards in their warehouse, or they had subbed out my small and seemingly insignificant job to a cheap crew for labor and materials. Whatever the case, I had to fire them. Given their glowing reviews here, it is my guess they do pretty well on the big jobs though skimp on ones perceived as less, so BE ON YOUR GUARD!!! For any work beyond what is required in the building codes, stipulate precisely what you want, though if you're like the average homeowner (me), you may not know that until it's too late. Frankly, I would try elsewhere, at least for now. Seems like something is up with them. read more

Backstory on our roof: We purchased our home about 4 years ago and at the time our roof looked great, only one layer of composite shingles and the (supposed) integrity was confirmed by a (reputable) home inspector that we hired during the process. Within the last year, large sections of our roofing shingles began to literally slide off or were blown off by the wind. After two consults with roofers, turns out a majority of our nice looking "solid" roof was never even nailed down!!! Not sure whether I was more mad at the guy we bought our house from or the home inspector we hired! Appalling lack of care and disregard for even a standard level of workmanship. Enter J&J Roofing: Full disclosure, my husband and I know little to nothing about roofing, so in fear of getting ripped off and/or getting another half ass roof in place of our existing one, I spent considerable time scouring ratings and reviews on Yelp! (even the "hidden" reviews) in hopes of finding an honest and reputable roofing contractor. J&J Roofing was one of the top rated serving our area and reviews were detailed and solid so I reached out. I received a prompt response from Mike Glass (who I now know is part of the long running family business). In terms of cost, we were really hoping to get away with repair and not full replacement but that was just not going to be possible based on how poor of a job the previous homeowner had elected. Mike was one of the most helpful and informative people I have ever had the pleasure to work with. The Process: J&J came out to make an initial evaluation of the condition of our roof. Mike and I exchanged a number of emails leading up to an in home consultation where he presented us with all options and costs based on their evaluation. Following that, it still took us a few months for us to commit to the full re-roof plus we had an emergency water heater repair during this time which set us back as well. Mike was unbelievably patient with us during this time and he continued to answer any questions we had leading up to committing to do the work. He even came to our home again to show us roofing samples and help us navigate the paperwork needed. Mike also informed us about the relatively new HERO financing program, for which his company is a certified contractor. The HERO program offers financing to homeowners for all types of energy efficient upgrades including installing a "cool" roof. There are no upfront costs and the financing if facilitated through your annual property taxes with terms extending up to 25 years. I was unfamiliar with this program initially but Mike provided all of the details and after researching the validity of it further we decided that would be the only means by which we could assume the cost of work. Mike was very honest and on the level with us. He went above and beyond in terms of explaining things to us. We did our due diligence to get multiple bids and J&J was right in line in terms of cost so we knew we had selected the right company. Once the paperwork was signed, the rest was really a breeze! Scheduling the job was fairly quick. The job took 3 days in total (tear off to finish). The work crews were on time, professional and kept us informed of any issues. They also installed a solar attic fan we had requested and replaced two skylights that was required when tearing off the old roof. The Experience: 5 STARS all around! I highly recommend this company for anyone who is looking for roofing work or, like us, needed an honest, responsive and helpful contractor to guide us through an otherwise unpleasant experience of undertaking a major, high cost home repair. J&J fixed a roof of my 4 plex apartment. They came quickly and emailed me a detailed estimate right away. The apartment is very old and they ended up doing extra work that was not included in the original estimate. They only charged me the original price! A week later, my other contractor found a small hole near a gutter. The hole was not exactly on the roof but J&J came right back and sealed the hole with no charge. They are focusing on building a long term relationship with a customer rather than getting as much money as possible in a short time. Highly recommended. read more

All I can say is "Beware when hiring these people!" We had a leak in our roof and they sent out a man who was "positive" that his patch work would solve our problem. It didn't. We called them back and Matt came out and said we needed more extensive work. He sent out a proposal on the work and when I called him back to explain what it meant ( I was not up on roofing lingo ), Matt was very condescending towards me. When I called him on it, he said he had an "Anger Management" problem and apologized. That was all well and good and we approved the work. We set a date for the work. My husband called saying they didn't send the contract, not realizing that the work description was the contract. The day they were suppose to show up I looked at Matt's e-mail and realized that he got "angry" at my husbands confusion and terminated the job. If Matt is unable to discuss issues like a normal human being then this company is not worth it. He will fly off the handle at any given moment and leave you hanging. And he will do it through e-mail. They are unprofessional, insensitive and down and out rude! read more
