Boy, you're their best friend while you're test-driving a car, but you're everything but a child of God once you try to negotiate. I drove a vehicle on April 17th, and really liked it, and called the next day to negotiate, and got a very quick no and--worse--John laughed right in my ear. I get that business is business, and I get they have to make money, that is never an issue. What I would appreciate is someone saying, "Maybe there's something else around that price point we can find for you" instead of a flat no and a laugh that makes a potential (at the time) customer feel like a criminal. Don't think for one minute anyone should spend money at a place that treats you like an imposition and feels like they're lowering themselves to work with you. J and R Sales--you had your chance. You're not getting another one. I bought a 2013 SUV Cadillac a year ago. After a day or two of having this vehicle I thought I better turn on the air to see if it works. It did not so I had to inconveniently bring it to their shop across town, get a ride home and back. I've had it for little over a year and I have so many electrical problems!!!!!!! The seats don't program or the side mirrors. The radio has static at on many stations that I listen to. Bluetooth don't work. The screen is Janky, when I do turn my air on the passenger side, blows out heat. The right passenger seat doesn't heat up. I was waiting for the car wash, and my hatch went up twice on its own. A couple months later now my hatch won't open. I am beyond upset because it's gonna cost a lot of money to fix. I will never go back to that car lot ever. They seen a woman sucker coming and sold me the biggest pile of crap. I went over to the auto luxury mall told them about it, the guy looked down with a smirk and shook his head with unbelief. i've never had a problem with any car lot before. read more

Zero integrity! My wife was looking for a car for her sister & contacted Scott. He told my wife car was in like-new condition and hadn't been smoked in. She asked if there was any damage to the vehicle & he said NONE. They put a $1000 deposit down to hold the vehicle. I stopped to inspect the vehicle & found duct tape patching the molding around the sunroof, 3 major paint scratches/repairs and smoke smell & cig ash damage in the interior. They had no explanation for the damage & acted like they hadn't noticed it. They refused to refund the deposit even though they didn't disclose any of the damage. BTW, they were asking high book value for this car! They are crooks & extremely rude! Leisure-suit motors would be better than this dump. Don't give these sleaze-bags your hard earned money. Don't give them a deposit but, if you do, use a credit card!! read more

If buying a vehicle from this place, they will not back up their product. I traded in a vehicle and gave them $8000 on top of it. The stop leak in the engine cooling system gave out within first few days of buying this vehicle from J & R auto sales on the east side of Sioux Falls on 12th and Sycamore and the business was not interested in helping me out on a $100 repair. Once they have your money, they could care less about you as a customer. After being told I was on my own, I told the dealership I'd give them an opportunity to make things right before I would start writing opinions letters to the newspapers and posting bad reviews online. I guess $100 to them is more important than their reputation. Spend a little extra and go to a dealership that will back up their product. read more

I've given myself numerous weeks to cool off before I write this review. Needless to say, it hasn't helped. If you could vote negative stars I would. To start out with, they were moderately pushy. I attributed it to Covid and needing some sales. I was gently harassed about buying the car by text. Nothing too aggravating though. I ended up fallIng in love with a silver 2016 Ford Fusion and decide to purchase it. They had told me the owner of the business would drive this car home and enjoyed it immensely. Let me preface this by saying I have worked for a dealership in the past. A small hometown dealer that emphasized buyer experience and quality vehicles with transparency to previous vehicle issues. Which was why I was attracted to J&R. Small, been in business for thirty plus years...it SEEMED solid. Upon purchasing this vehicle I didn't haggle with them. I considered it my Covid Contribution, being in healthcare I was fortunate to have a steady paycheck and I wanted to pay it forward a little bit. The delivery of the vehicle would be rated a negative ten if I could. They didn't vacuum it one last time, or run it through the car wash. There were no personal touches that said they cared. I got to friendly's about half an hour away and the car wouldn't turn over, then Brian had the audacity to ask if I was starting it correctly. Check engine light was now on. They said to bring it in the next chance I got and they would fix it, I also asked them to make good on their promise of getting me a good deal on tires. Upon bringing the car in he knew nothing of tires, and I was charged half of the cost to fix it. I was mildly perturbed but trying to be civil. Not 24 hours after picking up my car, the check engine light comes on again. I was furious. I know that when you hook the computer up to a car you can cancel the code regardless of the issue being fixed or not. So here I am thinking what did I get myself into. I call the dealership and speak with Brian, asking him flat out if the car had thrown codes and they cancelled them instead of fixing. He out and out yelled at me over the phone horrendously insulted that I would suggest such a thing. Again, I took it because I don't want to accuse someone wrongly. This time I take the vehicle to a certified ford dealership- I end up breaking down on the way in and having to be towed. I walk out with a 1200$ bill -tires and evap valve. Three weeks after purchasing this vehicle with the most expensive after market warranty which they said between insurance and warranty they get almost everything covered all the time. Whether or not this business cancels codes without fixing, I can't tell you. All I know is that they didn't stand behind their extremely expensive car that they made an exorbitant amount of money off of, and topped it off with yelling at me. I will say however, I think it strange how there are other reviews of codes being thrown immediately after purchase. Regardless, my lesson has been learned. Always haggle, always read reviews, never go through this perfect example of a shady dealership. I fully plan to contact the Better Business Bureau. I would call the dealership but I don't particularly feel like being treated like crap, and have no desire to speak with them again. Not to mention, I specifically asked dealership if they had updated all recalls. They replied that they had indeed. Imagine my surprise when Ford informed me that the recalls had NOT, in fact, been replaced. A dealership operating in this manner has the potential to get someone killed. read more

When they called to finalize a few things over the phone with me I let the manager know that a racist comment was made...his response was "are you black?" I will never buy from them again. Pre-Inspection is a Must!!!!! I purchased a truck from J&R Auto in early March. Drove well, looked clean inside and out, and under the hood. I did not do a pre-inspection and did not climb underneath to look it over. I was told that all the vehicles J&R buys go to their North location and are inspected by Quality Auto. Within 3 days the battery died (which it was an older vehicle, so that can happen). A few days later, the check engine light came on. The dealership ran the codes and 2 popped up. They said that they would work with me and had Quality Auto do the work - new catalytic converter ($300). I picked it up and the check engine light was off. Now, to replace the catalytic converter, they had to put it up on the hoist, so they could see everything underneath. Shortly after, it came on again, and the brakes seemed pretty light, like there were hardly any brakes left. I took it to a different mechanic and had to drive in low gear to feel safe, as you couldn't stop quickly. Before they fixed anything, they called me to come down to look at the underside of the truck. Rust was rampant underneath and had completely taken out the brake plates. I called the dealership again and they had me take it back to Quality Auto to be checked out. I asked the guy at Quality if they inspect all the vehicles from J&R and was told "not all of them." I asked if they had record of this truck, and without even looking, he told me "no". I expressed my frustration with the salesman and he put me in touch with the President. I asked him to take the truck back and a full refund, as major deficiencies exist and that this vehicle is not safe to drive without thousands of dollars of repairs. I asked if they, as a dealer, had any responsibility to make sure the vehicles are safe to be on the roads and do comprehensive inspections. He told me that they are NOT required to do that! He would not take the truck back for a full refund, however, we compromised that they would give me full value of what I paid on trade for a different vehicle from J&R. I drove multiple other vehicles and they all seemed to have issues. In this process, I worked with a different salesman from a different location and asked about inspections. He told me that before the vehicles hit the lot, they are first taken up to the North location and inspected. I specifically asked about underneath, brakes,... and was told that "whatever needs to inspected is inspected." Obviously that is not the case. A couple good things to note.... They were never pushy with me, which I appreciated. When I asked to have a vehicle inspected, they had no problem with it, which is what I did with the one I actually went with. They probably did not have to take my truck back for the value I paid, but did so to help alleviate my frustration. The bottom line is to have an independent mechanic check over the vehicle before buying. read more

They are just in it for the money and they barely know anything about cars. I bought a 10 year old RAV4 from them and the transmission leaked the next day. I took it back and they had my car for over 6 weeks before I demanded them to hand my car over. They didn't fix anything they promised and know I've put another $3000 into it only to have the transmission leak and now I need a new one! I purchased a 2018 Toyota RAV4 2 weeks ago. I called the next business morning to return it. This vehicle does not get even close to the gas mileage that was advertised. I noticed no dents so asked if there was any damage and they said just a small wreck that was fully repaired, that reflected in the carfax, when in fact they purposely kept the vehicle dirty to cover up the chips in the paint. My inexperience showed with this purchase. I take full responsibility for that, but don't know of anyone that washes every car they test drive after being told that. They advertised this vehicle as seating 5 but in fact it only seats 4. No middle seat belt in the back. This is a very important detail, I'm a grandmother and have my grandchildren alot. This does not work for me. They knew that from our extensive conversation about it and refused to take it back when I discovered these issues. He said he would do a trade in but that they would only give me the trade in value. That there was no way I'd be getting my money back that I paid. I'm devastated and appalled that they would treat there customers in this way. I will now have to contact an attorney and hope that something can be done. I also gave them NO permission to take my picture, let alone post it on their Facebook page and wherever else they felt it necessary to post. So be aware. read more

Bought a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Drove it home antifreeze leaking, security lock won't let you start the car once we stopped. Get it going, figure it's the water pump that's leaking. Call them and take it back they fix the water pump, but costs me $100 not a bad deal. Get it home again, radiator leaking. Need new radiator, not the end of the world. Take it to my mechanic, yeah the vehicle had been in an accident. The radiator got shoved back and the A/C condenser is ruined because of this. My mechanic has to pull the front out to get in the new radiator and A/C Condenser. They put the bad in Used Cars Salesmen..........They would sell a broken life support machine to a hospital. read more
