Found J&R on facebook and super glad I did! Its been hard trying to shop for privacy trees because you never really know what you will end up getting until day of install. I've seen advertisement for 5-6 ft or 6-7 ft and the quality/fullness of the trees seem to varies on the landscapers. This season was also apparently tough on inventory and some of the landscapers I spoke with had trouble getting the trees at the right height we wanted. (I know construction supplies are low too, we've been looking into other home reno projects) Jack was very responsive from the beginning when I first reached out and when I asked, sent me photos, video and even face timed me to show me examples of the trees I would be getting. His brother also paid an in person visit and chatted with my neighbor and I about what they can do and the location for planting. I spoke with a few other landscapers but ultimately went with J&R because they were responsive, straightforward and the price was competitive! Holy cow my lawn is amazing. All my life, I've walked through perfect lawns and wanted my own. I contact the two landscapers and I'll tell you why I picked Jack: 1. I asked him what type of grass I needed for a dog and he said "Kentucky Blue Grass", which, according to Google, was perfect for my area. 2. I asked him if I should sod my lawn to save money and he honestly told me that the sodding should take place in the fall. 3. I made the mistake of passing on the sprinkler. I realized my mistake after Jack told me that I need to water the backyard for 45 minutes everyday the next two weeks. When I told Jack I made a mistake, he texted me back with the number to his water sprinkler contact, Anthony, who was also nice on the phone. The point is that Jack knows what he's doing. I can't believe it only took two hours to flatten my backyard, apply some soil, and sod to perfection. read more

Omg these guys are amazing! I moved into a brand new property and the landscaping was decently done but the flowers were horrible! I'm no expert when it comes to flowers or gardening but J&R definitely was! They redid my landscaping and fixed the soil in my backyard and created another area for gardening at the front and side of my house! I really should write this comment earlier. This is the best best landscaping company ever! We have a nasty neighbor who always park their junk car right in front of our bedroom and moving multiple times day and night. I called Jack asking if we can plant a row of shrubs. He's being so considerate and very patient with all the questions I asked. He showed up in a week and planted them in 2 hours. He is my hero! Although the neighbor issue still exists but it helped a lot with noise! They also helped us removed many wild trees and shrubs. We all love his team!!! read more

I'll start by admitting I can be a difficult customer and often spend way too much time getting estimates, changing design plans, and mulling over vendor reviews. My backyard project was no different. I received estimates from five reputable companies on Long Island that were either recommended through a Facebook Moms/Dads group, Yelp, or through word of mouth. It just so happens that I liked all the landscaping companies I brought in and all had very similar ideas however, J&R stood out from the rest in two distinct ways. First, the price was reasonably lower than others and second, Giacomo was as honest and reachable as any vendor I have dealt with. It never felt I was bothering him after numerous calls with plant suggestions, pricing questions, and scheduling during COVID. Keep in mind my job was probably on the lower end for them as these guys do jobs both large and small in ultra wealthy areas and everywhere in between. That said I felt like I was a priority. The owner always called back within minutes and was a pleasure to speak with. When install day finally came all three owners were onsite both days with their workers helping and coordinating the project to ensure the work was done as we planned. This is unheard of. The material they used was the highest grade and the final product is even nicer than I imagined. My property not only was cleaned afterwards but throughout the entire job. These guys are as OCD as I am. In the time of COVID they were overly cautious, all wore masks and gloves, disinfected regularly, maintained distance, and even worked with limited quarantined staff to mitigate spread. Most importantly these guys care more about your happiness than money. I asked if they could touch up my front yard, fix other shrubs around the house, adjust plants back and forth, and they did it with a smile and without extra costs. All these guys do is talk about their family and thats how I was treated. I know I can call these guys tomorrow, in a week, in a month, in a year if there is a problem and i know they will pick up and happily address the issue. Like many others on Facebook have said before: if you want a high end design with white glove treatment for a reasonable price than J&R Custom Landscaping is a great choice. Thanks Giacomo! We had J & R landscaping install sod and plantings in my backyard. We couldn't be happier with the job that was done. The pricing, timing, quality of work and friendly staff were all a pleasure to work with. We were in need of a quick install during their busiest season and Jack (knowing I was in a panic) juggled his schedule to accommodate us. During install we also worked with his 2 brothers, Johnny and Mario, they (as well as the workers) couldn't have been nicer or any more accommodating. The clean up was amazing as well. J&R is the best landscaping service that we used. We fist had the forest growing in the backyard looked at by Giacomo. He told my husband & me that the zoysia grass needed a kickstart with nitrogen. Dennis considers himself a garden expert. He really did not like what Giacomo was saying. Giacomo assured him with new fertilizers & a new time schedule the zoysia would grow greener earlier in the season. Giacomo was correct. Our lawn never looked so good. Then The whole team came - Giacomo, Johnny & Mario. They removed all but two of the shrubs that surrounded the back yard deck. They removed two redwood steps in the front of the deck & also on the side of the deck. The brothers put a truck laid of soil under & around the deck. Their helpers smoothed the dirt around the deck. We now removed a housing violation but also vastly improved the looks of the backyard!!! read more

They did a great job procuring beautiful, full, healthy trees and bushes, and a gorgeous array of perennials, and planting them in natural looking arrangements. As before, the pricing was very competitive, and I am left with the feeling that they really took care me as a repeat customer. My husband and I bought our home in 2020 during the height of COVID all while I was pregnant and with a toddler running around. Let's just say it was a crazy time for us and we were looking for a landscaper that could not only deal with but thrive with our wonderful world of "crazy." We found 3 companies through Facebook mom/neighborhood groups that came and gave us estimates and recommendations for our home. J&R was the last one to come and Giacamo could not have been nicer and more honest with us. He rattled off a bunch of amazing ideas and when I asked him to send us a list of them all he graciously did...the same day. He even gave us his estimate the same day as well which was reasonably lower than the rest but with higher quality plants and products. He also offered to meet us at a nursery to show us his ideas in person. We made our decision to hire him right there as he showed us the beautiful plants and flowers and colors he planned to use in our yard and how easy it was to talk to him and work with him. He never changed his cost even when we made adjustments to the original planned design. He covered off on concerns we had regarding lifespan of everything we had chosen and made us feel like we were family at how much he cared about our home. Like someone else said in their review last year...we were not on the high priced end for them but you would never know it by the way we were treated. We texted him with questions during and after the process and always received a quick and thorough response. When they came to do the planting my 3 year old son was playing and saw all the "fun" dirt. They went above and beyond to make him happy by digging him a dirt patch in the corner of our backyard and promised to plant him tomatoes next summer to help him learn how to take care of something important to him. Like I said...they treat everyone like family. We absolutely love how our front and back yards look and it's all thanks to them. They provide high end work for a reasonable price and are the easiest, nicest, most awesome people to work with. We look forward to seeing them when they come to do the Spring cleanup. As the season starts to approach for people to look into new landscape design....J&R is the ONLY way to go. read more
