This season was also apparently tough on inventory and some of the landscapers I spoke with had trouble getting the trees at the right height we wanted. (I know construction supplies are low too, we've been looking into other home reno projects) Jack was very responsive from the beginning when I first reached out and when I asked, sent me photos, video and even face timed me to show me examples of the trees I would be getting. His brother also paid an in person visit and chatted with my neighbor and I about what they can do and the location for planting. I spoke with a few other landscapers but ultimately went with J&R because they were responsive, straightforward and the price was competitive! She said in a nasty tone, "Well I'm looking at my system and it does not have a confirmation from you." I said "I don't care what your system says. I did confirm. I'm looking right at it." She repeated, very argumentative and condescending when she should've been apologizing: "I'm looking at my system and everyone else is confirmed but you're not." I said "Then your system is broken because I confirmed! Check your email. I confirmed." Now she yelled at me "Don't speak to me like I'm a child." Excuse me? SHE was the one scolding ME like a child, when she should've been APOLOGIZING for standing me up when I had a confirmed appointment! IN ADDITION: This whole business of "confirming" is ridiculous. I made the appointment, and I didn't cancel it. Even if their system somehow missed my confirmation (which is inexcusable) you don't CANCEL an appointment without contacting the customer. They have my cell number. They should've notified me that they were cancelling. Then I could've directed them to my confirmation email which they somehow missed. Also: Their email made it sound like confirmation was optional. It said: "Hello. This is a reminder that Phil will be with you on (date) between 2:30 & 3:30pm. Thanks, Dom's Landscaping. Reply yes to confirm or visit (website). Thank you." That email says Phil is coming! It does NOT say (but it SHOULD say): "If you don't confirm, we won't show up, and we won't even contact you to let you know we're standing you up." Since that is apparently their policy, they need to make that clear. But again, I CONFIRMED! I have proof. And I waited! And no one came. And when I called, I got scolded, even though it was THEIR FAULT. This is a terrible business.

Sometimes it's not fun to be right. I sent a request to…read moreseveral gardeners on Yelp. I outlined 3 things needed done. Just Clean Lots replied with a Robo response or Cut & Paste. Very generic "happy to help you with your garden related tasks". And "we must make an appointment". I didn't respond because I KNOW that the people who must appointments are always the WORST. They delay things forever. They tie up your whole day for nothing. And they charge way more! I like the companies that are a guy who has some other guys that work with him and they get the job done. After a few days, they reached out again. I replied and said that the robo reply wasn't good and that I'm not making an appt without knowing if they even do the tasks I needed done. I was assured that they could help with all 3. On Monday, they asked if they could come Tuesday of the following week. I said there was no way I could wait that long. Especially since there was so little change that there prices wouldn't be unreasonable. I need to know sooner rather than later if I need to move onto the next. I was talking with someone that I believe said she was the Operations Manager. Sigh... again, managers, having to inspect everything (rather than working from my description and the numerous pictures I supplied) and I told her it needed to be in a day or 2. She got back to me and proposed Thursday. That wasn't the day or 2 I wanted. But it was easier to accept than keep going back and forth. This was all on Yelp. So, I can't say if it was all one person or different people. I did get a message later saying that Wednesday would be possible. I said ok and said that anytime between 10AM and 3PM would be ok. Not that I like 5-hour windows. But again, to minimize the back and forth that would be necessary to fine tune a time. So, stayed available all day today. Made sure to be done with showering, etc before 10 so's to not be occupied if they came. 10AM came. 3PM came. Now, 5PM has come and gone and not only no show, but no contact. No request to reschedule. No apology for standing me up. Nothing. Part 2 - replying to Justin's comment You misunderstood. I don't mean that the estimate gets higher by being a week later. I mean that companies that make a trip over to spend time estimating charge more than companies that don't. They have to make up for the cost of the time of the person who is estimating rather than that person being on a job (whether it's gardening, painting, cleaning or any other work). What is referred to in your reply to my review as "building a relationship with the customer" is the exact opposite of what I want. I want the work done and not to be bothered. I shouldn't even have to be home. My gardener comes once a week and we see each other in person once a year (or less)! The best way to "build a relationship" with me is to accommodate my preferences as a customer. Not to force me to do things your way.
