They were very polite and professional, but they tried to overcharge me and they lied to me about what I needed. They wanted $1,100 to replace a worn out bearing and $800 for a new muffler. I thought that sounded high (I expected it to be a little more expensive but not ThAT much) so I took the car elsewhere for a second opinion. I just paid $600 for both repairs... a THIRD of what J&S quoted me... and it turns out I didn't even need a new muffler. Only the adjacent part was broken, but J&S tried to claim that you can't just replace that part, you have to replace the whole thing. read more

I am extremely dissatisfied with the service i received from J&S! I've taken my car there in the past and never had a issue with the service. I took my 2010 C300 in for suspension issues Mike the owner check the car and priced the repair cost at $4,200. Since i trusted Mike and had work done in the past I agreed to the price. about a week after i got my car back i heard a knocking sound coming from the front passenger side of the car. I took the car back spoke with Danny left the car to be checked out and Danny advised me that he didn't find any issues and it's probably just the shocks and struts settling in. I said ok however the noise got worse and i brought my car back and spoke with Mike the owner who heard the noise and even went on a test drive with me to verify the issue. I made an appointment to bring my car back the next day feeling that my issue would be resolved however instead i received a phone call from Danny stating I needed the control arms replaced and the bill would be an additional $1,294.20! I advised Danny that on my previous bill it stated that the control arms were checked and OK now your telling me they're worn out. WTF! I even asked hey come on can you give me a better price than that? "NOPE" I didn't even mention that i discovered screws missing from the under carriage of my car that had them replace. I don't like giving bad reviews But i don't like being taken advantage of either. I waited a few days before posting this thinking Mike would call a loyal customer to make it right but nothing. Took my Audi a4 in for check engine light, so first we agreed on on price then Manager so we can get everything fixed for just $300 more and now charge me 3400 for a check for the engine to be fix which didn't even get it fixed because they fixed the engine check engine light didn't fix none of the electrical issues I've been having because every time I leave the car to mechanic shop they mess something else up a fix the problem take it in fix that problem and cause a bigger problem on my car now I'm having electrical issues and now there's saying we're only supposed to fix the engine also, they don't want to fix the electrical problem so now my car dies while driving on expressway & radio turns off too. Omg where do I start! I found this repair shop as it was a foreign car repair shop and not far from home. I looked at the reviews on Yelp as well as google and this place seemed to be one of the better options. 1-2 week prior i had taken my 2015 Benz GLA 250 to the dealer which is always overpriced and was informed my turbocharge was bad. When i spoke with the repair shop told them i was informed that the turbo charge was bad and i needed it replaced. I received a call from Mike i want to say prior to changing the turbo and said that if they change the turbo basically there could be other things wrong like the engine. So i proceeded to have him change the turbo for $2900 as i was informed by the dealer that that was the issue. I got a call the same day close to the shops closing time and they said i can pick the car up. I pick the car up turbo replaced but the car is still NOT drivable nor does it accelerate, making a loud noise, shaking, and smoke/combustion coming out the tailpipe. I get about 50-60 feet from the shop and turn around to take the car back. Yet I'm a female and don't know half as much about cars but i understand that the turbo could have caused some issues with the engine but i would think that a a repair shop you would assess what all is going on instead of just changing the turbo and letting me pick the car up malfunctioning. I don't know if Mike is the owner but very unprofessional and didn't really seem to care especially since i had already paid for the repairs . But it's definitely obvious that they didn't give a damn about my safety because they could not have test drove that car before letting me pick it up. Mike tells me they didn't drive it after fixing it because if something happened to the car it would have been on them... so you fix a car but don't see if it's working right after you fix a major part?????? Then proceeds to tell me that he wasn't sure now that the turbo is fixed if it's the timing chain or something else and to look at that if they have to pull out the engine 2K plus whatever it would cost to fix the problem that could range from 2-6k . No thank you Sir you lost my trust when i picked up my car in the condition i did even if there was another problem why not call and tell me that to see if i want it further assessed before you just let me pick up an undrivable car. I had them change the rear main seal on my Jaguar and two days later the check engine light came on, they told me it needed both o2 sensors changed for $1000. Two days later light came on again, this time they tell me I have a huge vacuum leak, another $1000. Two days later light is back on again. I change the coolant reservoir and sensor and find out they used some kind of sealant on the sensor and it wouldn't work. I went back to show Mike the owner and his reply is my guy wouldn't do that, I had changed it 3 years earlier and there was no sealant used. He never even went to ask his mechanic. read more

Took my car (2009 be cc) in for repairs around the holidays, my car was ready for pickup for 3 days (new year weekend shop was closed) and they shipped it off to a tow truck company (they gave a towing company my car keys) saying that I abandoned my car, everything inside my car is missing. Tools, jack, scan too etc. I filed a police report and filed a civil suit against them. They didn't fix my car and I had to pay $250 to get my car from a towing. read more

So I took my car (C300) in for a normal Service A. They recommend that I change the serp belt because it will *soon* not work as there is a lot of wear & tear on it. OK. I say go ahead. And yes, it was pretty expensive. LITERALLY THE NEXT TIME I DRIVE MY CAR I FEEL A TEAR and my car stops mid traffic. I had to call a tow-truck. Worst experience ever. I take it back bc something tells me they screwed up. YEP, they did. The manager said he's sorry the pulleys didn't work and the *NEW* belt they put in tore. I said, "Didn't your guys check them? I mean your replacing the belt....why wouldn't they check them?" He said that was their fault and they SHOULD have checked. What happened next? I have to pay for the pulleys and service. Down another couple hundred dollars. He said he will only "warranty" the belt. Yeah well that's the least you could do, replace the faulty belt you sold me. NEVER coming here again. Took my car in for a tune up and oil canister/filter change, he never changed the oil saying an oil change wasnt done only swapping the oil canister/filter. The Reciept says OEM Oil Filter only for me to find out its AFTER MARKET!! You really messed up dude. Got a foreign car? Look else where... I've been going to J&S for a couple years now and I've always been satisfied with their work. They only use OEM/Bosch parts (which are under warranty) and my car always drives like a champ afterward. I've brought my car in twice since I bought it two and a half years ago. My car is an 03 Volvo with 85,000 (now 125,000) miles so it has required some work. Other mechanics would told me I need a new this and a new that (very similar to my dentist) but at J&S they only tell me what I absolutely need. And if you need a few things worked on, and you're on a budget, they can advise you which should be done first and maybe even work out a payment plan. I feel the fact that I've only been there twice speaks a lot for their work. You go there, you get your car fixed and it's fixed; End of story. No recurring problems where you need to keep bringing it back to the shop. read more

After my car went off of warranty I was leary about continuing to take it to the dealer. I was referred to this shop by a friend and what a gem. There prices are amazing, just don't expect coffee and wi-fi in the waiting room. There is a bus stop right across the street that will take you the blue line or green line, or if you ask nice they can drop you at the train. We had our 2009 Jetta 2.5 in for having an issue with the fan speed on the blower motor. This is a common issue with the Jetta from this generation. I called ahead of time and spoke with a gentleman over the phone. I explained what the issue was and he said that it was a common problem. I also explained that I thought it was the blower motor resistor. He quoted a price of $85-$165, but in his defense, he stated that he would have to take a look at it. I thought it was a fair price considering the cost of the part and that the job would usually take 10 minutes for a qualified mechanic. It also could have been something else like a short causing an issue with the blower motor or something else. My wife dropped off the car to be worked on around the time they open. The work seemed to be done around 10:30am. That all seems good until you get to the bill. The bill was for $282.42. The part was billed at $98. The original part with VW can be had for $51.34 for oemvwparts.com as of 06/17/2014. In addition, I was told after calling back that there was a 2 hour labor minimum. I asked the person who answered the phone if this was explained to my wife. He stated that it was not and that she did not ask. I could have gone to the dealership and had the work done cheaper. The whole point of going to an independent shop is to get work done cheaper than at the dealership. The dealership part was cheaper and the $140 they charge to look at the car would have been applied to the parts and labor. I wanted to like this place. It is a few blocks from where I live and we can walk and drop off the car. They did fix the problem so its not like they didn't fix something and charge me for it. They did, however, totally overcharge my wife. For something that would take a novice 30 minutes and $51.34 plus shipping, we were charged $282.42. Color me one mad consumer. My feelings are such that I feel they took advantage of my wife because she is a woman that does not know about cars. In my opinion, a reputable shop would have explained the minimum 2 hour labor charge at $85 an hour and explained the work would take far less than that before completing the work. I thought that they had to replace the entire blower motor assembly for the price they charged. Overall, that is some shady business practice. read more

I live in Berwyn and gave J & S a try. I trusted them to change my front and rear brakes. They charged me $700.00 and at first they seemed to have done a great job. However, I noticed my breaks would squeal. I took it back to them to check and they said it was due to the humidity??? I took my car to get checked at NTB in Countryside and they told me that there is nothing wrong with the brakes... With the exception. If the fact that they put the cheapest brake pads known to man. They charged me for premium brakes and put junk on my foreign car. Don't trust these guys, eventually, you will get burned. You have been warned. read more

I took my car to the dealer on Tuesday and was quoted $1,500 for a VW Touareg rear drive shaft. I called J & S and spoke to Mike who quoted $750 for the same repair. Without hesitation I arranged to have a tow truck pickup my car from the dealer and delivered to J & S on Wednesday. Mike admitted that he had misquoted the part and work but that he would honor what he told me...won me over right there! And...I was able to pickup my car on Wednesday at 5 pm! 2 horrible experiences here: 1. I had a leak in a radiator hose. I brought it to them and they quoted me $200 to change the leaky hose and also the bottom hose. They told me a might as well change them both. Since the hose that was leaky was on top, I was able to buy it for $10 and change it myself in 5 minutes. 2. I have been having an issue with my car not blowing hot air when I'm running the heat, going back about a year. They told me that they needed start with replacing the car's thermostat. After this, the heat was still not blowing right. They told me it was that the heater core needed to be replaced for $1000. They did the work, but when I got the car back the radio stations were not coming in (my guess was the antenna wasn't hook back up), but I didn't tell them where the radio face was, so they probably didn't test it after they reconnected it. Well a week later, the heat is blowing cold air, so I bring the car back (they also needed to deal with the radio issue too). Al (one of the owners) tells me that there is nothing wrong with the heat, that it is blowing fine (it wasn't when I left it). I ask if the coolant levels are low. He says no, and there are no leaks in the coolant system. He also tell me that my radio is hooked up properly but it is not working. So I ask him what they are going to do about the radio. He says there is nothing they can do since they don't fix radios. I say, "then take it somewhere that works on radios and ask them what is wrong with it" He doesn't want to do this either. I say, "well the radio worked when I gave it to you guys so you need to either fix the radio or replace it" He then says, "how do I know that the radio wasn't broken when you brought it in?" Now I have paid these guys thousands of dollars over the past 4-5 years, and he's accusing me of trying to scam him for a radio. He says he can replace the radio, but I will have to pay for it. I won't agree to this so he tells me to call his partner mike the next day. I go to the shop the next day, and Al says "oh, my mechanic told me the radio wasn't working, but it turns out he had it on a bad station, sorry". Hahaha. I take the car for a ride, and the heat is "magically" blowing fine again so I take the car (the bottle of coolant in the trunk is a mysteriously a little lighter thought). Well, a week later the heat is blowing cold air again. So I bring it back. They tell me that the heat is blowing cold because the car is leaking coolant from the head gasket and it will be $1000 to replace it (this was verified by the dealer). So I wasted $1000 replacing the heater core. After this and the radio incident, I just wanted to be done with these jokers, so I picked up the car and haven't been back since. read more

For many years I would take my car to the owners Mike and Mark, now that Mark has been bought out and replaced with Mike's brother. Mike doesn't honor their work. Recently I had a valve cover gasket replaced due to an oil leak, several months later I smelled oil in my vents, Mike looked at the car and said it was unrelated to the valve cover gasket replacements. As the condition got worse I took it back, he then realized it is indeed coming from the valve cover gasket. But they told me that it is now 8 months and they can't honor the 6 month warranty. I then told him that they knew about the oil leak prior to the 6 months and asked how long should a valve cover gasket last? read more
