He did a quick preliminary diagnosis and gave me a fair quote for the alternator parts and labor. A few hours later, instead of just doing the expensive repair, he called me and explained that the alternator was actually fine -- the real problem was a wire that was shorting out and causing the symptoms. The repair ended up costing significantly less than expected because they were honest enough to fix the actual issue instead of replacing parts I didn't need. I also had them change the fluids and filters while it was there. He said it looked like my spark plugs needed changing as well. Everything was completed quickly and professionally. It's hard to find shops that are this honest and transparent these days. Highly recommend Total Care Transmissions for their integrity, communication, and quality work.

I kept calling them every day, and they kept telling me it wasn't ready. After 5 days, I went to the shop in person, and it still wasn't ready, so I told them I wasn't leaving until they fixed it. They finally started working on it, but I had to wait many hours. When they finally replaced the clutch, I asked the shop owner to test-drive the vehicle to make sure everything was fine, and I handed him the key. I immediately noticed he looked annoyed. He started driving while keeping the clutch pressed about a quarter of the way down. With a brand-new clutch, new pressure plate, new flywheel, new master cylinder, and a freshly bled line, that is not good. The clutch is hydraulic and responds immediately. I didn't say anything during the drive, but he was driving around 30 to 35 mph on the streets near the shop. When we got back, I told him he had been riding the clutch the whole way. He said nothing was wrong. At that moment, smoke started coming out from under the vehicle. I opened the hood and saw smoke coming from the transmission, and it smelled like a burnt clutch. He said that was a normal part of the process and that all clutches smoke when they are replaced. He said there was nothing to do. Very disappointed, I took my vehicle and left. I drove a couple of blocks, then had to turn back because they had forgotten to reconnect the rear differential. The vehicle was only moving with the front wheels, and the owner had been driving it that way with 4x4 engaged. At 30-35 miles per hour is not good for the differentials or the clutch. I returned to the shop and demanded they fix it. They did, and I only asked whether they were sure everything was okay so I wouldn't have to come back again. Then they started my vehicle, revved it, and did reverse burnouts to show me the rear differential was connected. That was very rude and I did not like it. That is why I say to avoid this shop. They are not professional. Honestly, I also had some extra parts there that I had bought, and when I left the shop they were gone. They were clutch-related parts I had bought as extras. I can't say for sure that they took them, but they disappeared while the vehicle was in their shop and on their property. If you think it ended there, let me tell you it is getting worse. About 9 or 10 weeks after going through such a terrible experience at that shop, Energy Transmissions, my clutch started having trouble getting up hills. I also have trouble getting onto the freeway. I do not drive off-road; I only drive on the road.I use it every day for my daily trips. The issue is that the clutch no longer disengages where it should at the lower part of the pedal travel. When you press the pedal, it should disengage lower down, but now it disengages very high. I have to buy another clutch and pay labor again at a professional shop. Next time I will be much more careful. I'm making this warning so people do not fall for it blindly. If someone reads this review before deciding to go to that place, I hope they take it into consideration. Sorry if I said anything inappropriate; what is happening to me is very frustrating. My apologies if I didn't use the exact right words, but basically I'm trying to tell people to avoid that shop so they don't end up having a bad time, a bad month, and an expensive bad experience Please avoid this shop.

Spoke to the owner Mario who was able to accommodate my car transmission removal and replaced. I had my car towed here and Mario and his staff Rhonda and Miguel were all professional and helpful. The surrounding area is rough but the shop assured me my car would be secured. It took about a week to complete the work and the cost was more reasonable than at the MBZ dealer where they quoted me triple the amount. I waited over a couple months before posting this review just to make sure all was good. If you own your car and it's beyond the warranty coverage and the transmission goes out, I suggest you call Mario for the job. Recommend

I called several places before deciding on M&R, and most shops just gave vague answers or high quotes without even looking at the car. But when I spoke to Señor Mario, the owner at M&R, he explained everything in detail, gave me a reasonable price using OEM parts, and made the whole process easy and trustworthy. The service was quick--faster than I expected--and both Mario and his wife were super friendly. They even gave me a military veteran discount, which I really appreciated. Overall, I trust these guys completely and would recommend them to anyone in San Diego (or even beyond) who needs transmission work done right. I'm definitely planning to bring my '98 Jeep there next time. Thanks again to M&R! Muchas gracias, Señor Mario!

The shop performed significant engine-related work, and after about a day and a half in the shop, I paid roughly $1,400 for the repairs. Unfortunately, only a few weeks later, the same P0300 engine code returned. When I contacted the shop, they advised me to bring the vehicle back so they could take another look. However, despite several attempts to coordinate, we ended up playing phone tag and the follow-up experience never materialized. I will say that the customer service was excellent while my vehicle was being serviced. Unfortunately, after I picked up the car, the level of communication and customer support was not the same. Since the issue remained unresolved, I eventually sought a second opinion from another mechanic. During the inspection, the mechanic removed the intake manifold and discovered that the foam seal inside the intake manifold cover had been bent during reassembly (please see photo). As a result, it was not sealing properly and was rubbing against the fuel injector rail. According to the mechanic, this condition was contributing to the engine misfires and the recurring P0300 code. I was disappointed to learn that such a simple reassembly issue appeared to be the root cause of a problem that persisted after the original repair. Given the amount of money spent and the unresolved issue, I expected greater attention to detail and better follow-up support. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop.

I had a great experience with Alex at Value Auto Repair. I originally reached out through Yelp, and he was responsive and answered all of my questions. His pricing was significantly better than what the dealership quoted me, but what really stood out wasn't just the price--it was his honesty. I came in with a humming noise that I believed was a bad wheel bearing but was unsure. Alex was upfront from the beginning after making the same diagnosis and even encouraged me to get quotes from other mechanics if it made me feel more comfortable so I could make sure I was getting a fair deal. That kind of confidence and transparency is hard to find. When I arrived, he was able to get my car in within about 30 minutes to diagnose it. While the part was being delivered, I went to lunch, and once I came back, he had the wheel bearing replaced in about 45 minutes. Before I left, he took the time to show me both the old and new wheel bearings, explaining how they worked and letting me hear and feel the difference. I really appreciated him taking the time to educate me instead of just handing me a bill. One thing I noticed while I was waiting was how many customers came in who clearly knew Alex. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to see him, several appeared to be repeat customers, and there was an obvious level of trust between them. After my own experience, I completely understand why. Alex also has a great sense of humor, which made the whole experience much less stressful. Most importantly, the humming noise is completely gone, and my car drives perfectly again. If you're looking for an honest, knowledgeable mechanic who charges fair prices and genuinely cares about his customers, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alex and Value Auto Repair. I know I'll definitely be back.
